Hey guys,
I hope someone will know the answer to my problems, I'll try to keep this short. (English is not my first language so excuse me for any mistakes I make).
Around 2 months ago I couldn't connect to my wifi, I tried everything, but eventually I thought the only solution was to factory reset my Samsung Galaxy S2.
That turned out to be a stupid decision. I made a back up of my media files, so those were safe. But the option to make a back up of your contacts using google didn't work, so I lost all my contacts, whatsapp messages and text messages.
Factory resetting my phone was the solution to the wifi problem though, so I was happy with that. And in the mean time I've gotten a lot of my contacts back, so that's not that kind of a big issue to me anymore.
But now I have a new problem. My phone can't update it's firmware anymore. I've tried using the update function from the phone, but it says it can't connect to the server. And using KIES, it says that the phone can't be updated as well. Now it's running on 2.3.5 and I'd really like to get the new OS available. (This is problem #1).
Problem #2 is the fact that in the last few days my battery has been incredibly weak. Normally I could last 1,5 days to 2 days with a fully charged battery, but now it seems to only last about 4-6 hours. The phone seemed to be a lot warmer as well.
I've tried to find a solution for problem #1, and all I could find is that maybe the factory reset changed the settings of which country your phone is from (I'm from the Netherlands), and that this is the reason why I can't update my phone.
In the thread I found they were talking about using #1234# and checking the codes there, but when I use this my phone displays (translated) ''connection problem or wrong MMI-code''. So I can't check if the data changed after the factory reset.
What should I do next?
Thanks in advance.
Hello there mate.
Im not a dev or something but from different cases that i've seen with many GS2 phones i think i can help you ( i hope at least ).
First of all i think you can easily update with odin to the new ICS firmware Samsung has for GS2.( If you use windows 7 run as administirator )
You can find many tutorials on youtube of how to do that.
Remember to back up all of your data before updating because they will be erased.
After installing fresh ICS firmware (official 4.0.3) you will need to do a factory reset.
Now for your second problem i think it might be an app problem which requires power from your CPU and that's why your phone is overheating and the battery is draining that fast.
I would suggest after using an app to kill it via the task manager so it won't run at the background demanding dedication from the system.
If that doesn't work also try re-installing all of your apps.
Hope you find this kinda useful friend and solve your problems.Take care
Thanks for the reply!
But before I upgrade with odin, don't I need to know the codes (representing where your phone is from etc.)?
I've found them under settings. They are:
Baseband: I9100XXKI4
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKJ3-CL647431 [email protected]#2
Build number:GINGERBREAD.XWKJ3.
And how do I backup all my files? Especially contacts, text messages and whatsapp messages?
No problem ! Im glad that you found my info somehow helpful!
Now as i said earlier im not that kind of expert so giving the current sittuation i don't really know. You should search on the internet for your firmware available for your country and also you can search at sammobile.com then go to firmwares then select the Smartphone option then Android and you should be good to choose the firmware and download it for your region/country. ( Terribly sorry for not giving a link but xda forums are saying that i need more than 10 posts to post a link.
So good luck with that one :good:
I never tried it myself but i've seen that people backup their contacts, texts and apps with KIES so you should give it a try :good:
Either than that, this is all i know and im really sorry if i can't help you any further as im new here too
Alright thanks for the help.
I made a backup of my contacts, whatsapp messages and text messages on my SD card. I'm almost gonna start using Odin. (You don't need a rooted device in order for Odin to work, right?). And I also only got a .tar file from the downloaded package from Sammobile.com, is that all I need?
I'll post the results
Yes Odin will work with unrooted and rooted devices!
I don't know if that's the file, i would do a little search before updating about the files and remember to watch a video on youtube to help you with the process !
Things to remember : If you are on windows vista/7 run Odin as administirator
After installing the firmware do a factory reset / clear cache
Good luck! I hope somebody more experienced than me will help you better than i did . :good:
Haha alright thanks for the help.
I used Odin this afternoon, with succes! I updated to 4.0.3 (only using the .tar file) and after that I factory reset my phone.
Also, I managed to succesfully retain my text/whatsappp messages + contacts, so everything's fine.
I'm going to try out my phone for a couple of days and I'll report if anythings wrong with it.
Really glad that things went in the right direction for you
Just a quick thought now, our Samsung Galaxy S2 will get a new update to 4.0.4 which is reported to be far better than the current one and will be available on the upcoming weeks so be prepared to do another update
But anyway you did a great job! :good:
I have just bought the s2 and have a couple of questions.
1. Rooting. I have always rooted my handsets, but my last phone (optimus 3D) had issues with ghost calls etc when I rooted and changed the firmware. Should I stay away from any particular rooting methods/roms/firmware?
2. As soon as I turned the handset on it asked me about a software update. I selected yes, but then it checked and it was running the most up-to-date software (4.0.4). That said, I have noticed that the software update process is constantly running in the background. I have unticked all the options for software update but it's still there taking up some of the resources. Any idea why?
3. Also want to stop the social hub process. Is there a way to do this without rooting?
4. I have google play services installed. Don't remember getting this. Is this installed as standard or has been downloaded elsewhere.
Appreciate any replies, thanks!
1. Yes, you can root your device
4 yes it installed by default.
Rest of the question can be found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648351&page=130
As you are n 4.0.4 read this thread also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756242
thanks! will take a look at the links now..

You have to install the Google Apps as a separate install when dealing with most non stock roms. Surely the guide you were looking at mentioned that...? Weird that you are having issues with Sms as it's rare roms have that trouble. Which messaging app are you using? Your contacts aren't there because you wiped your phone, installed a new operating system, and didn't install the Google apps to resync your account. I'm confused on why you're surprised by that... Kies doesn't work on non stock roms and is a much inferior tool vs Odin. Also, didn't you do a nandroid backup before installing Slim? If so, you could just restore that and you would be back to the previous version in like 10 minutes. If you didn't...well, you weren't looking at the right guides then. I think Slim is 10x better than stock, personally but depending on the phone and version, there can be some minor issues.
I think that Whatsapp doesn't recognize your phone because of the custom DPI. If you set that to stock value, it should work.

Hello, my GFM updated in early April to the latest version (1.117.0306), but will not connect to the GF now. I had to remove everything and reload the 1.98 version on my phone which works fine. I have the latest software on the Gear Fit, R350XXU0BNG2.
It keeps trying to update automatically and I have to keep deleting the GF Installer under Appliacations to stop it.
Anyone have any ideas on how to best proceed? I would like to have the latest version (1.117.0306), but I've tried several times and reset the GF, but nothing works. BT fails to connect. It sees the unit, but will not connect.
Thanks,
Sammy
I found version 116 that works pretty well. You can go into the galaxy app site and set the app not to auto update but you get lots of nag message asking to upgrade.
Honestly at this point, the nag messages are close to making me stop using the watch. When the upgrade notification pops up, it steals focus. So while it's annoying because it's an extra step to use the phone when unlocking, it also presents other issues. I use my phone for work. I have a Bluetooth headset. I usually leave my phone on my desk. If I'm away from my phone and a call comes in, I can usually just answer it from the headset. However, if the upgrade message is currently in the home screen, because it steals focus, the Bluetooth cannot answer the call. I've already missed 1 call because of it. I hope Samsung gets off their asses and fixes this. I mean, what does the regular consumer do who isn't on this site and doesn't know how to roll back to a previous version.
Yeah it's getting really annoying.
Do you guys have the latest firmware installed on the gear fit?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I think I so. Mine is R350XXU0BNG2

Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
I'm on OA2
The nags are killing me on this issue. So much so, that I am seriously contemplating jumping to the Garmin VivoActive. I know it has its own issues, but at least it won't keep me from using the device.
I backed my firmware on my GF back to a previous version via Odin and started over. Everything loaded, updated and connected fine. Even my GF updated it's firmware during the process. Here is how it ended up:
GF firmware: R350XXU0BNE5
GFM: 1.117.030622
Hope this helps.

HOLY ******************! This actually WORKED! I tried everything! I have a SCH-I545 (Verizon Galaxy S4) and wasted so much time talking to Samsung support about my issue. They had me do a whole bunch of nonsense including factory resetting my Gear Fit and phone, with no success. I installed different firmwares from all over with no success. I even rooted my phone and installed non-Samsung managers (and you guessed it!) with no success. Then I read this and figured I'd give it a shot.
Downloaded this firmware: r350xxu0bnd8.rar (full, not just update)
Using Odin I flashed the BL, AP, and CSC. Then installed a fresh copy of Gear Manager v.1.117.030622 and tried to connect. Told me to upgrade the firmware on my Gear Fit, which I allowed. After the firmware was upgraded, the Gear Fit connected without a problem!!!! THANK YOU SAMMY!!! :good: :good: :good:
@echo top. Thanks for the heads up on what firmware you flashed. When I tried flashing ne5 I would just get boot loops. After flashing bnd8, it connected and updated to ne5 on it's own. FYI - I did not do a fresh install of 1.117. Just my existing 116 that I let update. All good.
Interesting. I will have to try that.
Connection problem confirmed solved
@DeathBySnuggles Yeah I was having the same problems with some firmwares, regardless of which version or where I downloaded them from. Might be an issue of flashing just an update on top of a different firmware version (without flashing the entire firmware set all at once). Not sure.
I had the bluetooth connection loop with BOA2/BNE5/BNG2 and Manager v.1.117.xxxx. Then at one point I almost bricked my device with a firmware from a questionable source. It was unresponsive, but using Kies I manually (it did not automatically detect it) searched for either the model or serial number of the Gear Fit and forced a fresh firmware install. That didn't solve my bluetooth connection errors though, still had the bluetooth connection loop.
I learned through my frustrating chats with Samsung that there are two different versions of Gear Fit. One is a U.S. version, and the other is the international version. Both apparently have the same model number, but are different based on the serial numbers. I really don't know the difference other than that's what they told me. I DO know that there are different firmwares for different countries. When I flashed my Gear Fit with firmware downloaded from the internet, they were usually based on versions from around the world (not U.S.). My guess is that by flashing a previous version of the firmware from any country, installing or updating Gear Fit Manager to the newest version, then upgrading the firmware through Gear Fit Manager installed the CORRECT firmware for the country you are in. If I'm wrong, someone speak up!
Kies didn't even install the correct firmware apparently, but this method worked for me. I spent hours everyday for MONTHS trying to correct this problem, and @sgroover60 posted the simple solution! It has been working without failure or problems ever since! Thanks again Sammy! :good:

That's where I found it too! I've been using XDA forever but never signed up to post on the forums until now, so I was not allowed to post a link to the dropbox (since I am a newbie under 10 posts).
@DeathBySnuggles could you put a link to the dropbox download? I still cant... I think it would help others find it quickly.
Has anyone seen the ridiculous responses from Samsung support in the Galaxy Apps Reviews for Gear Fit Manager? Generic responses that don't work. They always like to blame your problems on the devices being rooted as well! Downgrading the firmware on the Watch via ODIN and then running the Gear Fit Manager 1.17 worked for me as well. I just updated my Galaxy S4 to Stock Rooted Lollipop 5.01 and when the watch didn't work with it either I knew it must be a firmware/software issue isolated to the watch. Glad I checked this forum again and found this solution. No more upgrade nag messages! That in itself is ridiculous. Nobody should be forced into updating software unless it's for some sort of API or PCI compliance etc.
Well, Hello.
I'm stuck in the "Failed to connect to Manager" part, I already made a full flash of FW r350xxu0bnd8, install all kinds of Gear Fit Manager, and still can't even access menu information on the Fit.
I'm using S4 mini and s5 mini.

First delete any and all gear fit managers from your phone. Second, flash the xxxBND8 firmware to the gear fit using Odin on your computer (the entire firmware, including the AP, BL, and CSC at the same time). You can find the xxxBND8 firmware by googling r350xxu0bnd8 (we found it on someone's dropbox, I wish I could post the link for you). When that is complete, then install a fresh copy of gear fit manager 1.117.xxxx on your phone (I recommend just using the galaxy apps application). Once you have a fresh copy of gear fit manager 1.117.xxxx, then try to connect to the gear fit using the gear fit manager. The first time it tries to connect it will ask to upgrade the firmware on the gear fit through the manager (not through Odin). Click 'allow' to start the upgrade process. It might seem at some points like the update process has frozen, but it's just slow and will finish in approximately 5 minutes. Once the gear fit has been upgraded to the proper xxxxBNE5 firmware, I think the gear fit restarts. After it restarts or whatever, it should ask you to connect on the gear fit. Then try to connect to it using gear fit manager 1.117.xxx and it should connect without a problem. If you have more questions, read this entire thread first (not that long at this point, probably only 2 pages). If it's STILL not working, let me know I'll try to help you through this. I know how frustrating this can be...
Hello everyone. I have a samsung galaxy s7 edge (SM G935F) and i recently received the android 8.0.0 from samsung. Downloaded and installed directly via the cellphone.
But after updating i am getting this internet/connection drop issues a lot.
Now a lot of times when im connected in wifi or using the 4g mobile internet, im getting a lot of internet lag/drops. Example: at whatsapp, when i sens a message, the clock appears and only after a little rhe time the message is send.
Example 2: at facebook, somerimes it lags and takes too long to load the content (same happening in instagram). Or at clash of clans, it is showing that symbol of internet issue.
Besides those internet bugs/lags, the android 8.0.0 is ok.
I already did a factory reset yesterday via the phone, and saved the files with smart switch. But the problem persists. I also checked and my wifi internet and my mobile internet are ok.
Does anyone knows how to fix this issue? Is there a newer version of the ROM, maybe? Or if not, is ir possible to downgrade to android 7 again (really wouldnt like this option but....)?
If anyone could help that would be great. But for the record:im really newbie at android stuffs....if you can help, please could you explain step by step?
Thanks everyone

I have the same phone but in my region the OTA 8.0 upgrade didn't arrive yet so I took a french official 8.0 for SM-G935F and installed it. After about one week I can tell it works like a charm and even better than before with the Marshmallow firmware. I don't see a solution with your specific connection problem but I can try to find and bring you the OS that I downloaded and used if you want.

NO, i can't seem to remember where i downloaded the firmware from, but I am sure it wasn't from Sammobile because it take ages to download. But I still have it on my laptop so I'm uploading the .rar on mediafire.
All you have to do:
Get Odin
Get the ROM (extract it separately, you should see the AP, BL, CP, CSC components)
Cause I am a new user on the forum it doesn't allow me to post external links so let's get around that:
type in w w w. mediafire . com /file / tx3676bj71vz17f/G935FXXU2ERD5_G935FOXA2ERD5_BTU.zip (copy paste and remove all the spaces)
Activate USB debugging (google that, you can get it in 30 secs)
press and hold power+home_button+volum_down then press volume_up when it asks you to confirm that you know what you're doing.
Open Odin, you should see that your phone is recognized (in the top left rectangle it shows COM something.
Add the AP, BL, CP and CSC from the folder to Odin by pressing the specific buttons and then selecting them, wait between them if necessary, it will tell you.
Make sure re partition is not ticked in the options tab.
after everytihng is ready, click start and wait some time.
When it is done you should see PASS in green and your phone restarting.\
From there you just have to configure your new OS. Bare in mind that you should know the google acc and password that you had on the phone before, else it will get FRP locked.
Hope this helps, If you have any questions feel free to ask.
