Please excuse me, but I've been looking for 3 hours now and, frankly, I'm now more utterly confused than ever - sorry
I am genuinely desperate to get back call recording to my S9 Plus for business purposes. I've seen that for some UK phones it is apparently now possible to record even with Pie but I can't, despite genuinely trying, find how I'd make that work.
It worked fine until Pie, so I fully understand I will have to go back to Oreo. I also understand I will have to lose all my data. I'll live with those little things. However, can someone PLEASE point me to:
oldest O2 UK Oreo firmware. I don't seem to be able to download from anywhere I've seen them advertised without 'signing up' to frankly dodgy looking sites
Instructions on how to actually do what I need to do
Thank you
Can help with part of your question...
The how to flash was posted at the link below. The instructions are actually pretty clear, they tell you what to do.. Click on the show content under the "how to flash the stock flashable odin firmware".
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75917820&postcount=1
Just be aware that you can only flash firmware that has a bootloader equal too or higher then what is installed on your phone right now. You can not flash firmware that has a bootloader version that is lower then what is currently on the phone.
To locate your bootloader version look under settings > about phone > software information > baseband version
Once you locate the baseband version count 5 characters in to the left (starting at the far right as character number 1). The number at the 5th character will be the bootloader version.
If you have a recently updated your phone to android pie then you will not be able to downgrade it to oreo... so from what I can tell if you installed android pie updates released after April 2019 you will not be able to downgrade to oreo
I used the link below to determine what firmware versions your looking for. Unfortunately I can not get the files you need, which is why I am only able to help with part of your request.

Thanks Scott. I think.
I guess this is yet a further example of how consumers are being actively denied genuine choice whilst the companies tell us what is happening is in 'our' best interest. God help us.
I have read that Google are releasing new firmware updates to Pie for the UK that allows recording again. Does anyone know where I can get hold of it for my S9 plus please?

There's more to it then that, the updates we get contain security patches and the bootloader is always going to receive patches as well to curb vulnerabilities and etc.
If your phone is used for work they may have an IT policy that requires your phone to be updated as to be secure from vulnerabilities.. so I would check with them to be sure. Reason why i suggest this is because If your using call recording then the recording of customers calls would need to be kept updated so it's secure... If they don't have a policy then they should because it makes it that much easier for a data breach to happen running devices that are behind on patches/updates.
Maybe this will be of help to you in the meantime? You can use a PBX calling app with a voip provider (like voip.ms or one of the other ones). The PBX calling apps generally do have voice recording abilities that work really well. I ran my own PBX voice server with an older computer (used a voip provider for calling to/from landlines) to help filter spam calls, but I also recorded my calls since it was easier to remember important dates/info that way.
Also here's some info on the removal of the call recording API.. Originally it was done around android 6.0 for privacy reasons. It was the developers of 3rd party applications who found ways around the removal of the API to make call recording to work.. When Android Pie was released that the work around was patched. Also while our phone's are capable of native call recording, this is only enabled when it is allowed by your country/region/cellular provider (which is nothing Google can control).
In your case you could root your phone and modify it to accommodate call recording if you wanted (not sure if that is viable since you indicated your phone and a work environment).
Google has indicated they would like to return the api for call recording, but so far has only said it is on there roadmap. So I would hope someday they do but it doesn't look like it will be at the release of Android Q.

Hi Scott.
Whilst I mentioned 'work', it is my company so I control what goes on. Additionally, recording anything without informing the other party is perfectly legal in the UK so long as it is for personal use only. I even have a call recorded where the Information Commissioners Office told me this
As I am seriously desperate to record my calls, and my phone is now out of warranty, would you be kind enough to point me to a thread or two where I can find a well trodden and not too complicated rooting procedure pls?

This thread deals with rooting the model you have.. perhaps it will be of use for you?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/how-to/guide-root-s9-oem-fix-t3763974
Also the ability to add native call recording seems to be a csc feature tweak. Two ways you could try this:
1.) I am not sure if this still works or not, but you can try this. Edit the cscfeature.xml and add the following to it at the bottom:
Code:
<CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording> RecordingAllowed </CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>
2.) Install a custom rom that has the feature as an optional addition. One rom I see mentioned often is this one
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...g96xf-fd-n-stock-rom-soldier9312-1-0-t3771346
Others may have ideas too.. so before you do anything maybe consider waiting to see if others post ideas?

0. Definitions.
“This License” refers to version 2 of the GNU General Public License.
“Copyright” also means copyright-like laws that apply to other kinds of works, such as semiconductor masks.
“The Program” refers to any copyrightable work licensed under this License. Each licensee is addressed as “you”. “Licensees” and “recipients” may be individuals or organizations.
To “modify” a work means to copy from or adapt all or part of the work in a fashion requiring copyright permission, other than the making of an exact copy. The resulting work is called a “modified version” of the earlier work or a work “based on” the earlier work.
A “covered work” means either the unmodified Program or a work based on the Program.
To “propagate” a work means to do anything with it that, without permission, would make you directly or secondarily liable for infringement under applicable copyright law, except executing it on a computer or modifying a private copy. Propagation includes copying, distribution (with or without modification), making available to the public, and in some countries other activities as well.
To “convey” a work means any kind of propagation that enables other parties to make or receive copies. Mere interaction with a user through a computer network, with no transfer of a copy, is not conveying.
An interactive user interface displays “Appropriate Legal Notices” to the extent that it includes a convenient and prominently visible feature that (1) displays an appropriate copyright notice, and (2) tells the user that there is no warranty for the work (except to the extent that warranties are provided), that licensees may convey the work under this License, and how to view a copy of this License. If the interface presents a list of user commands or options, such as a menu, a prominent item in the list meets this criterion.
1. Source Code.
The “source code” for a work means the preferred form of the work for making modifications to it. “Object code” means any non-source form of a work.
A “Standard Interface” means an interface that either is an official standard defined by a recognized standards body, or, in the case of interfaces specified for a particular programming language, one that is widely used among developers working in that language.
The “System Libraries” of an executable work include anything, other than the work as a whole, that (a) is included in the normal form of packaging a Major Component, but which is not part of that Major Component, and (b) serves only to enable use of the work with that Major Component, or to implement a Standard Interface for which an implementation is available to the public in source code form. A “Major Component”, in this context, means a major essential component (kernel, window system, and so on) of the specific operating system (if any) on which the executable work runs, or a compiler used to produce the work, or an object code interpreter used to run it.
The “Corresponding Source” for a work in object code form means all the source code needed to generate, install, and (for an executable work) run the object code and to modify the work, including scripts to control those activities. However, it does not include the work's System Libraries, or general-purpose tools or generally available free programs which are used unmodified in performing those activities but which are not part of the work. For example, Corresponding Source includes interface definition files associated with source files for the work, and the source code for shared libraries and dynamically linked subprograms that the work is specifically designed to require, such as by intimate data communication or control flow between those subprograms and other parts of the work.
The Corresponding Source need not include anything that users can regenerate automatically from other parts of the Corresponding Source.
The Corresponding Source for a work in source code form is that same work.

This is a Discussion thread for the rom and is only to be used for that purpose.
This ROM Thread is posted with Permission of Agrabren

You Tell Me!
Note I AM NOT the creator of this rom. IT IS AGRABREN
He gave me permission to post a discussion thread
I will keep this open until he feels like the build is alpha quality
I will then close this thread
I'm posting a thread as he has not.
Also If you phone explodes or you create a black hole I Take NO RESPONSIBILITY
I'm fine with the thread, at least until the ROM is stable enough to meet my standards to be posted as an alpha. People in the CM9 thread wanted to see it, since I had posted a build for the GSM phones (to test if I had the basic infrastructure working) and they were thrilled. So I posted for CDMA after the last builds came out.
Now everyone, settle down. You're all more than welcome to use this thread to discuss what works, doesn't work, and how to help each other make the most out of it.
This forum is supposed to be about helping each other. Is the ROM in development? Yes. Does it work up to my requirements for alpha quality? No. Why? Because the microphone doesn't work right. If that were fixed, I'd likely switch to developing for CM10 instead of CM9, because the camera won't kill me to get working and everything else is trivial between the two for me to not lose any time or features.
Thread moved to GENERAL - it will stay here as a discussion thread.
Edited OP and thread title to reflect that, also left a couple posts from agrabren so people know he's ok with this thread.
Any and all flames or name calling will get you an immediate infraction and likely a ban if you cross the line too much.
Keep XDA what it shold be, open and a place to learn.
Have a nice day.

I agree.
I've been running this for a little over 12 hours now. It's very nice and makes me very excited to see where we can see Jellybean in the future.
Not Working:
4G will not enable
3D
Camera
Google Now/Search FCs
Headphones are not detected - sound continues to play through external speaker
Potential battery drain - BetterBatteryStats shows phone as awake 100% of the time, though I had an app running that may have been the cause of it
Watching Youtube can cause a reboot after 20-30 seconds
I also was unable to boot with the stock kernel, and if I had the newer ICS firmware it refused to boot at all with any combination I tried.
It's incredibly fast though, you can definitely feel the Butter in play. I'm very impressed with the ROM and will continue to run it until I go back to the USA, at the very least.

4g is not integrated into this build , neither is camera , neither is 3d , neither is voice search - that is why those are bugs

Perhaps a CDMA thread title, or people posting whether they are gsm or cdma.

:good: - OP should be updated reflecting a "not working" feature set
Found another bug - attempting to watch Youtube for more than 30 seconds or so causes a reboot. Will update my post to reflect this (in 5 minutes, due to my lack of user permissions). I agree that these bugs should be listed in the OP, to make them easier for people to find as well as remove all the posts like "DOES FOUR GEEZ WORK" from people who only choose to read the OP.

yes, a cm9 and cm10 Rom if you know where, the thread hasn't been created for 10 yet.
Was just hoping someone could find out why audio goes out after phone connects call through SIP(Internet calling) ?
Problem with all cm9+ roms, by 3 different gsm devs.
Titanium backup won't restore Facebook.
It's not critical, but it is a problem I've been having. Unchecking Facebook fixes it.
It hung on something else too - had to force close TB a couple times, but I got most of my stuff back.
Over all, very fast, and the phone (the old neglected bit some people actually use to talk with other people verbally, rather than via txt) works well.
I've also had issues downloading paid apps from the market - and TB warned me that my device ID had changed. It offered to change it back, which also crashed TB.
After restoring accounts from TB (and possibly the device ID as well - not sure if that completed or not), the market issues have gone away.
Hello,
I'm working for a telecommunications company in the UK, we are currently deploying a IMS / Volte solution, we have spoken to handset manufacturer vendors regarding the addition of our carrier configuration to support VoLTE, however this is proving difficult and long delays, I'm hoping someone is able to support us in editing or creating a new custom carrier configuration file with our specific parameters and settings,
We have access to various handsets, we have currently rooted a S9 and s9+ in the hope of creating these profiles but we can only view them, for example we installed EE UK CSC, but we can’t edit or add a new profile
Is anyone able to assist, your time and effort will be rewarded
Thanks, Regards
I feel for you, trying to get cooperation out of any of the manufacturers. One problem with what you're trying to do, though: Even if you were successful at modifying the rooted devices you have to accept your carrier IMS profile, that really won't help end users unless the manufacturer helps out. Whatever fix you would discover would no doubt require rooted access to the file system. That's something the vast majority of users won't be able/willing to do to apply the configuration.
I wish you the best. I can believe it's not easy to get them to help.
Thanks for the reply, it’s almost the chicken and egg scenario, we have completed installation of our IMS / VoLTE solution but need to test service, once we are confident on all the parameters and settings we need, we can provide this information to the manufacturers to add our carrier configuration to the OS, but the handset tech teams won’t be able to support until Q4 this year. Am I looking for a Google / Android developer for this?
Thanks, Regards

Ah, so then you're not looking to develop something for end users to deploy right now. You just want to get it working so you can tell the manufacturers what you need included in the stock OS. That makes way more sense. An Android developer would be useful, but mainly someone on the telecom side to know the parameters would be needed. It should just be editing stock configuration files, unless there's some weird authentication you need to do above and beyond the normal LTE stuff.
No. We're doing it in phases. We will allow inbound users on our network first. Then we'll open to our local customers after a period of time. We know what we need to configure to enable VOLTE, but we don't have access to those configuration files. Rooting obviously doesn't give enough access. Is there anyone online that would be able to support that you know off?

If you know what files or folders you need to access, root does give you access. It sounds like you need to research some basic Unix commands and change permissions for the files/folders that you need to access. Root gives you full access to the entire system with super user (SU) privileges.
Is there a phone/android version that allows someone whos not an Android expert to actually have control over what their phones doing? Or is it just not possible nowadays for a regular person to fully control the info their phone sends?
Sorry if this sounds cynical, it really is a genuine question.
Thank you.
Hi Steve, it sounds like what you need is a rooted phone. Forgive me if you're already familiar with the term, but rooting basically gives you administrator rights over just about everything on your phone, with only a few exceptions depending on which Android version the phone is running. This allows you to do stuff like revoke permissions for apps, block ads, and change how Android looks and behaves.
Do you have a phone in mind already? If not, what's your budget?
questions should be posted in q/a Thread moved please review the rules ( located below)

Thank you for your help. I had a rooted phone, but a friend did it for me. Now I have a S8 active on Pie and from my research the bootloader I have (V5) is not rootable. I'm definitely not well versed in Android though and could be wrong. That's why I was wondering if there was a device that offered full control without the need and rick of rooting. If there's not, could you suggest one that is perhaps the simplest and least risky to root? I don't need top of the line, I don't game or anything and would be fine with getting something used. thanks again!
Luckily, there is a way in stock Android to control permissions! I forgot about it when I was typing my previous response. Here's an overview: https://www.howtogeek.com/355257/can-you-control-specific-permissions-on-android/ Hope that does what you're looking for.
If you want to do more with a rooted phone like block ads, there are some that are easily rootable, like the Google Pixel series. Here are a few options: https://www.androidcentral.com/best-phone-rooting-and-modding I liked the Pixel 2XL I used through my previous job, and I've heard good things about the other Pixels, for what that's worth. I haven't tried the other phones in that link, but the OnePlus phones have an excellent reputation.
There are many other phones that have varying degrees of difficulty for rooting, but I'm not aware of any relatively recent ones not on that list that I'd consider easy to root. I've found that the best approach to finding a new phone is going to GSM Arena's Phone Finder to put on my criteria, then coming back to XDA and searching through the forums to find out whether my prospective phone of choice has root yet. As you've discovered with your S8, some phones just never get there, which is pretty frustrating.
I hope that helps! Holler if you have any other questions.
Well, that's my main issue, you can only control certain permissions there. When I click "all permissions" I can see them all, but not turn them off. It's just a bummer that one has to go thru all this rigmarole to control a device they supposedly own. I was hoping maybe someone made a device that you could control stock, but I guess that was wishful thinking. Thanks again.

You must distinguish between Android OS itself and the apps that run on it: Android OS has no permissions you can invoke/revoke, only hardware/OS specific settings can be made there, but permissions can be granted/withdrawn from an app - if its developer has allowed the latter. To change the permissions of an app basically no rooted Android is required, this is done either via Android->Settings or via a 3rd-party APK editor.
BTW: It exist 3rd-party apps that can show you what apps are sending/receiving data over Internet.
Hint: Use your Android phone without Google.
Is root required to disable hardware?

No, only a hammer.
I and many people, most Android users, want their phone to be able to record calls automatically.
For commercial, administrative, security and judicial issues, automatic recording of telephone conversations is very useful and necessary.
Older Android phones can easily make call-recording through dozens of available apps.
But in the new smartphones, none of the apps have the ability to record calls.
I request Android developers to make custom ROMs that can be installed on a smartphone to record calls. Record automatically.
My friends have rooted their phones but have not been able to enable call recording by manipulating files.
I wonder why unofficial developers have not yet put such custom firmware to download.
In general, I ask Android development experts, what should we do to activate the ability to automatically record all calls without any problems? Especially Samsung phones.
Thank you very much
Good luck and good health

Would some of you Pixel 6 users mind installing and seeing if it crashes on you, please?
Because it's not 100% of users encountering the issue, they blame some Pixel users due to a "classnotfound" error within their application.
Since we've all seen people copy & paste code and other silly things they shouldn't do, which cause crashes, I asked them if they used a root checker:
Yes, and we also have our test team both in China and the U.S. using a couple of problematic models which are reported by users too. But nothing more is found and none of the trails show the problem. And according to the feedback situation, not all users using these phone models are having issues, so we assume it is related to a specific user environment.

I've disabled and rebooted without it, and the issue remains. I've also used a stock boot.img and the app still crashes, which makes me think it's detecting an unlocked bootloader or some similar and unnecessary check(s), and moving forward with its checks which then fails due to Google no longer supporting whatever methods the app is using, and they don't know how to figure it out since it's probably copied & pasted code from many months ago and they're unwilling to suspect that old code is the cause, even though Google normally rolls out subtle security changes like this, very gradually.
Is it really just me and 5-8 other users in the entire world with this issue, or does it crash on some of you as well? I can't imagine it being such bad code that it's only rooted/unlocked bootloaders with the issue. It must be non-rooted and stock Pixel users with the issue as well, and those devices just haven't been pushed the Play Store/Services update yet.
I'd like to know if I'm just getting older and dumber or not, and if I'm truly the cause for the crash, haha. I'm open to being entirely to blame for this, but I don't want to wipe my phone and relock the bootloader for testing quite yet. Thanks for testing and voting in the poll!
Huh? If you've got a "class not found" it seems like it would be pretty easy to determine where the problem lies.
Is it some esoteric Kotlin thing or java.util.boring?

Yeah, I figured something like that should be pretty simple, unless they have zero failures in their own testing. But...is there some new background auto-report for crashes on Android, which ties in to the email address, that I'm unaware of?
I never said anything to them other than email them my phone model, Android build, and posted a google app review (under the same name & email address) with no information other than it crashing. And they repllied, via email, with this:
Due to the uniqueness of this bug, no more code trace can be reported as you received only a line of error indicating "classnotfound". normally there will be at least a few lines more which helps with debugging.

Well, there could easily be conditional code for almost anything.
If you can repeatedly bomb this, why don't you get a logcat and see where the problem is?
Code:
$ logcat
The logcat should say what the class is and where it's called from.
Heck, it could even be in JNI code.
I just tested it, opened but due I am not registered and have no compatible AC, I didn't processed further. My cast vote is given, but not sure whether this is helpful, due not sure whether the app crashes when you open it or after login.
Pixel 6, A13, rooted and unlocked bootloader.
Cheers
Tom
oops!
So.... they have test teams in... China? You want to give CHINA control of your air conditioner? And access to data on your phone?
I'm same with tom1807
Yesterday Instagram app started crashing after I got a video message from a friend, I had to clear cache and reinstall it and reboot the phone, its now working fine, it was weird though
