Hi, I bought a new Mi A3 two days ago for my father.
For him display nav buttons are more user friendly than gestures but I can't find how turn on them.
In my Mi A2 I can find them on System > Gestures > Swipe up on home button > OFF (nav buttons) / ON (gestures), but in Mi A3 "Swipe up on home button" doesn't exist.
Please, any suggestions?
Not possible at moment
Is there a way to swap the buttons or put the back button on the right side?

Yeah, follow this guide, but you need to have installed adb on your computer

Are you talking about 3 button nav bar? You can turn it on from Settings>System>Gestures>System Navigation>3-button Navigation (For Android 10)

Sadly not possible on Android 10, Google removed the interface which allowed swap of buttons on stock Android.
Thank you.

Since Android 4.0, Google has declared war on the menu button and all devices come out with Recents - Home - Back buttons.
Samsung for some reason decided to move forward with the menu button.
Would it be easy to remap the left capacitive button and make it show the recents instead of the menu action?
Does it really bother you that much to keep the hardware-button pressed down for like 1 second to display the 'Recent' list?

It bothers me, that much
It bother me that much as well - it's just slow.
I think I'd prefer the mod to be double-click home button though, since I rarely use S Voice and it's no hassle to find and click the icon for it whenever I want to use it.
This bothers me too
Would be nice to have it on the menu button. Even an app/shortcut on the homescreen for it would be nice.
I wonder also if there is a way to limit the recent lists as well, if I don't check it sometimes the list can be massive - would be nice to limit this to like 5 items or something.

Anyone who used the CM10 on screen nav buttons, knows how much better it is to have the recents key available on a beast like the sgs3.
I wish we could change it but I am afraid this will never be possible on a samsung rom

open up Generic.kl in /system/usr/keylayout
change
key 139 MENU
to
key 139 APP_SWITCH
that should work

That's half working. It does work as APP_SWITCH but Android doesn't recognize the lack of the MENU button so it's doesn't show the settings buttons that are needed in most applications.
cm10 has implemented the button remap feature. now you can easily change the menu button long press to recent apps in cm10

If you disable the hardware buttons, it just does.

I'd be really interested in this too... Right now I'm using the virtual buttons app.
My home button, menu button, back button and search button are all unresponsive. Probably about 90% of the time.

Yeah, I tried that app too with no luck. It sucks... I'm probably gonna have to take my phone in to get repaired.
I also tired Pimp My Rom , since it has enable navigation bar function, but no softkeyz after multiple reboots...
Hey there
this is not my phone, its my friends phone
So phone's back button and recent apps aren't working.
He said he didn't do anything nor did the phone fall.
Phone is not rooted.
Any idea on how to fix it ?
Or any alternative softwares for recent apps and back button ?
@MJ999:
Back-function by tap on right capacitive button?
Recents by long tap on hardware-home-button?
So simple home and left menu-button work?

To ask again: One swift tap on the hardware home button (= home) works fine?
I'm not aware of any app to replace these functions that work without root. With root you could use e.g. LMT Launcher and use it to simulate the button pushes.

Hardware home button works fine
It's the capacitive touch that isn't working, it doesn't illuminate.
He is saying he got an app from Play store, but only limited to back button.
On the keypad type *#0*# to open the factory test menu and press "subkey". The screen will go black. Now press the menu and back capacitive buttons. If the screen changes colour you have an os issue. If the screen stays black you have a hardware fault.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
The Truesmart buttons on the side seem to only have one function (on/off for top, back for bottom) but is there a way to reassign a function to these buttons? Like long press for settings or volume or home screen?
The reason I ask is, if I'm using music or Maps I have to hit the back button four or five times to get back to the home screen to do something else, like adjust volume. This also undoes anything that's going on in the app I'm "backing" out of. Anyone have a solution?

All In One Gestures (app) is your answer - install from Play Store.
Allows you to configure swipes (and volume bar) .

Thank you very much. I know how how to set Google Now into the buttom but not Now on Tap function
to get now on tap you must use 1st set to use the on screen navigation (i think) then go into apps > settings (cog wheel) > default apps > assist and voice input
