What's the best GCam solution for Magisk Rooted 20h? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I have the Camera2 API Enabler Magisk module installed, but the official GCam from Play Store is only compatible with Android Pie.
Should I just find an older version of GCam for Oreo? Or is it more complicated than that?

We used to have very active V30 Gcam thread, but the most popular version was from @Cstark. I suggested he start a dedicated thread down on the mods sections, because his kept being drowned out by the others in the "everything" thread.
It worked (February 2018) and the other "general Gcam" thread died out as his version was clearly the best. However, he had to widen the scope to other LG models because all the other LG model owners came in here begging it also work for their camera.
Suddenly it wasn't "GCam for V30", it became [GCam] [Wide Angle] LG G5,LG G6,LG V20,LG V30.
Stuff like this was also going on for in other forums for other brands like OnePlus, etc. So, a few months later XDA decided to MOVE all the GCam threads to another section of XDA:
Google Camera Mods
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/google-camera-mods
Also about this time, @Cstark stopped developing for the V30 as he got another phone, but someone else stepped in to continue his work. He never re-named his thread, so even though it says v 4.2 it's well past that.
Someone also created a thread in that forum section for the succcessor's mods, which work on a lot of phones:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78054159&postcount=2
You are right it's a popular question, but that's where it's all being discussed.

Gotcha, thoroughly detailed as always

I once spent a fair amount of time and effort keeping track of different GCam mods. Then I lost interest, because the stock cam was always the most reliable.
Several times it happened that there was a good photo taking opportunity in a trip or so, and working through different GCam issues, options and settings botched it. So, I am back to using stock camera. The best picture is the one you already took, not the one you could have taken.
Individual experience may vary.

I feel the same way. On rooted stock, the switch between cameras (wide angle, front/back) always works seamlessly, there's no green tint on any...
I even have access to G7/V40 improvements through the Anxious V30 Magisk module.
One of the reasons I never installed a custom ROM, because I use stock camera.

Aside from the green tint on the selfie cam, Arnova's 1.7 (Gcam 6.1.021) works great for me. I don't take selfies, so I don't care about that.
For fast/quick pictures, I use the stock camera app. But if I want to tinker, play, or use night-sight, this Gcam works well for me. Night sight just takes a little longer to do its thing. In the end, I have both available, so it's not a big deal to me.

Do you guys download any GCam apks from celsoazevedo? I thought I had found a link there for a specific version for the V30 but I can't find that link anymore. The OP on the cstark27 thread has a link for 5.1 but people in the comments are talking about a 6x version, but I can't find the download link and I don't want to click through 200 pages of posts to try to find it
So far I'm agreeing that the Stock Cam is just fine, however I did take a picture in Portrait Mode on GCam5 and it looks outstanding. And since I just recently got this phone, I wanna play around with GCam and see if I can find something that works for me. Currently I have Stock Cam, GCam5, and GCam6 all installed but I'd like to find one that works best instead of having 3 separate cameras. Got those from the /r/lgv30 sticky

I use stock and GCam5. I don't even bother with trying to find a GCam6 that works fully because there isn't one and probably won't be one. The only good use of GCam6 is the night sight. But I hardly ever have a time where I need it. I mainly use GCam5 for pictures because it does a better job of processing the photos. And Stock Camera for video because it has more options.

Yeah I eventually found the link again from the reddit page, but the cstark27 GCam 5 seems to be the most reliable. The only thing it's missing is Night Sight but I can just use the stock cam for that.

Have you tried Open Camera? It's surprisingly good, at least compared to the default cam in LineageOS.

Port of camera

So, theres this camera here I want to flash but gallery fc's when ever I open Camera, thus making it un-usable, anybody have a solution or maybe a link to a better or similar flashable camera? Heres the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133327 , what I'm mainly looking for is macro focus, but the more features the better!

Last i checked and tested, any 4.2 Camera port is for AOSP ROMs only. I have not found one nor gotten it to work on anything other than AOSP ROMs. I may be wrong, just stating my experiences.

D'oh. Well I like to stay on Stock-Based roms because I like full functionality of the dock, but thats not too important I guess, but I'm using a 4.2 camera on Hydro 7.0 right now, and its working fine, would this be cause its specifically made for the TF300T?

Shutter speed

Hi everyone
I would like to know why our camera doesn't support long shutter speed (30-60 secs), I know it's a limitation of camera2API, but isn't there a way to edit those drivers so we can make it possible? I mean, what's the difference between 1 sec shutter speed (which is aviable for the moment only with the stock camera app in night mode) and 30 seconds shutter speed? I guess the sensor would be able to behave in such a way and since Sony refuses to modify their drivers, would it be too difficult (or impossible) for a developer to activate this feature? I would pay gold for it :fingers-crossed:
I think you should talk with @mkdmc or @[email protected] users. They're developers who know about this things. I invite to you to search their camera mods to see their jobs in http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony-themes-apps
Still
I've already seen their mods, but as far as I've seen the limitation is still there: 1 seconds... Anyway thanks for answering, will try to contact them for sure

Yeah that's why i comment you, ask them for your question. I think it's not that easy to make the limitation out, but maybe it's a chance with Nougat. Hope the developers find the way to make the good z5 camera work with better functions.
Can't understand why Sony doesn't allow this and also the ability to capture RAW pictures... There is popular demand all over the internet! Maybe it's because they're selling external qx cameras... who knows

Yeah it is a pity because imx 300 is a good sensor, not the best for low light but still good. It's funny because if they won't bring more manual controls for qx cameras, they at least should put Raw in those products, but no, only jpeg xD. Whatever, i really trust in developers of XDA because they're hardly working for bring us what Sony should do initially.
Its a shame as soon as you post a thread wondering why / when sony will get RAW support they remove the post instantly. I loved this phone until the camera support started to get sucky.
We need dev's who can modify the camera blobs (Which will of course take ages since they are not open source)
So, I tried to contact mkdmc and [email protected] as you @SebastianAlejandro suggested me to.
So far mkdmc didn't answer me and I doubt he will ever do so, while [email protected] did, something like a month ago, telling me that he would have talked to other developers about my request (longer shutter speed).
So I'm hoping to get an answer, but it will probably come after Christmas holidays, maybe when Nougat will be released. I'll keep you informed?

Anyway I found this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/themes-apps/apk-lcamera-longer-exposure-shooting-t3516152
Wondering if it would work on our device too
If someone is still interested, I update to tell you that maybe long exposures are possible on aosp roms, with the help of "Freedcam" (defcomg developer). If I'll be able to, I will try by myself.

A stock camera alternative.

Hey guys, I saw this on the xda portal and since I think the stock camera sucks I gave it a go.
Surprisingly it worked on Badboyz rom 3.2.
Just try it out for yourselfes, it seems promising to me!
https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-...nos-galaxy-s7-running-aosp-for-reduced-noise/
P. S. I do not own this, all credits go to their respective owners.
EDIT:
This one seems to work as well.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/themes/apk-snapdragoncamera-codeaurora-build-t3533687
But none of these let me adjust video brightness, which is sad.
Only Open Camera does that.
Anyone has a good video camera alternative?
Stock is sooo dim.
It's been talked about many times now so try a search.
People found snap camera to work very well.

I made this thread for a camera app that did not exists when people were talking about the alternative camera apps, also no one talked about the video brightness in snap cam or any other cam app to be honest.

Interesting. Since when? afaik all of Markus's roms work fine with dac. including all his pie roms
Poll has evened up with Pixel Experience and Havoc OS getting 3 votes each as well as Lineage just behind with 2 votes.
Anyone have any likes/dislikes they want to share about the rom they are using?
Also really interested in ROMs on this phone. Just ordered a V30+ so haven't tried any yet, or even the stock experience. Haven't used any Android version past 7.1.2 yet. I really want a ROM that allows me to modify the power button functions to show a "reboot" and "reboot to recovery" along with "power off", removing all other options from the boot menu accessed via power button. Also saw the Google Now bar which was, for a while, known as a pain to remove on the Nexus 5 (or was that Android in general?). Hoping it's possible to remove that bar entirely.

Open source is open source. No one -- even ROM group -- has any control over "unofficial" builds somebody wants to make. They're unofficial.
Unofficial is actually better in many instances, because the device maintainer can make whatever changes they wish, and are not restricted by ROM group rules.
@SGCMarkus? I thought you locked the DU thread only until the group released PIE?

The DU guys dont want any releases on XDA, at all. There has been some dramain the past... lets say it that way.
And yes, they have a say in unofficial builds too. But im gonna respect their wishes anyway. The builds are in the V30 Telegram group, or in the V30 Discord server (the later is still WIP).
Unfortunately, the T-Mobile V30 is always the odd one out with these ROMs. So the only one I have been able to use is Lineage 16. But other than the dim Always On Display, I haven't had any issues with it and it works great. I don't feel the need to go back to Oreo now.

Hey, six of one half a dozen of the other. Weird though, since I thought XDA was pretty much the biggest forum for Android development.
Stock apps?
I'm very aware of the fact that AOSP loses features from stock. But audio recording thought the headphone jack sucks now! The default recorder was amazing, and every app I try blows out the mic... I've tried all of them even Field Recorder.
I'm aware my use case is very specific. I use a lavalier mic to record interviews and conversations for videos. Honestly every other app, other than the stock LG one has no dynamic range and turning down gain in settings does nothing.
I'm open to suggestions, it's just a huge bummer that my last 5 projects all suffer from a blown out mic.

Stuff like this is why I'm still on ROOTED stock firmware. I can flash/install mods to give me custom features.
The only thing that really bugs me right now I've not been able to change easily is the status bar icons --- and maybe I just haven't looked hard enough.
If the polling weren't already completed, I would have voted for a third option. It would be either stock or none. I have flirted with all of the pie roms, and they each suffer from similar and fatal flaws like the one you give. Others to add are a functional camera app, propper playback volume, need for se enforcing, and correct set up for mms on Verizon to name a few. I hope this isn't interpreted that the efforts of the devs are not valued. The dev's have made amazing progress in six months or so since wtf was announced. I patiently look forward to the day the scale tips in favor of an aosp rom like what happend with RR om the quark.

Right. The devs are amazing.
@SGCMarkus singlehandedly brought the V30 a half dozen AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs.
It's just for me personally, I've made the decision to stay on stock rooted firmware for now.
As you know, on the Moto Quark I was a BIG proponent of first CM (which is now Lineage) and RR ROMs.
