Camera App Background Usage - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

When I looked the battery usage I used my camera app active for 7 minutes but it ran in background for around 2 hours. Battery usage was normal. %3.5 Is that weird? I am using malwarebytes and bitdefender on my device and I don't install any apk. Is there anything to be worrried about?

[Q] Sudden battery drain...?

So, i've had the eris since Dec '09...been rooted for a long time...played with many ROMs...lots of root-req apps, etc etc. i'm pretty proactive and i pay attention...but this one has me stumped:
about 5-6 days ago my battery started draining fast as hell...looking at what was using the battery it said Android OS, Display, then Android System. everything else was insignificant. right now stats (47m 22s since unplugged):
Android OS 49%
Display 13%
Android System 9%
that is HUGE compared to any time i've ever looked before. i'm running KaosFroyo v38 (complete fresh flash, though this problem started while using v37). List of apps...those with a star i can remember have updated recently:
chrome to phone
music junk*
SetCPU (set to 19200 - 604800, profile of screen off 160 - 480)
snesoid
switchpro widget
tapatalk pro
wireless tether
quick boot
usaa mobile
tfln +widget
touiteur (and premium)
Premotedroid
Winamp
adfree
the weather channel
skype
wiimote controller
shazam*
GPS Status & toolbox
astro file manager
my verizon*
launcherpro*
flex dialer lite
qwiklist voice
chandroid
facebook for android*
google voice
gmail
google maps
street view on google maps
my best guess is the problem is LauncherPro but i don't know how to monitor an app like that. any ideas?
I would check your network usage. If an app is constantly sending/receiving data, then it'll drain your battery pretty quick. I don't think it would be LauncherPro. I've been using the paid version for a long time now and have no problems with it.
Get spare parts. It will give you a more accurate look at the battery usage.

Under battery history, in spare parts, I selected network usage and one of the bars is named "0". When I select it, the history portion of the app force closes. This "0" app is the big drain.

I've seen the "0" mystery app before and couldn't figure out what it was. It wasn't draining my battery though.

[Q] how to check which process is killing the battery?

Hi.
Yesterday night something strange happened to my sgs. I went to bed with about 30% juice on the phone. When i wake up after 5 hours, the phone was flat.
I suspect that a rouge app is killing the battery. How can i figure out which app is draining the battery?

you can go to Settings > About phone > Battery usage .
you will see list of the hardwares ( such as Disply ), and softwares tthat use the battery and the % of each one is using.
I hope that helped you,,

Use Watchdog from Market. It will alert you when appas are misbehaving/using a cpu beyond a threshold.
To see what processes are causing wakelocks (wakes from deep sleep), use BetterBatteryStats. It;s free on XDA.

If you are on 2.3.3, then it might be Wifi Sharing Manager that's causing battery drain.
Use Antek App Manager, a free app from market to freeze the two system apps related to wifi sharing.
about battery usage.
also you can go to task manager before leaving your phone for hours and stop all active apps. i do this on a daily basis. i also have task manager on a home screen for easy access. =)
Using task killers won't save you any battery. Android has a powerful memory management feature. When it runs out of memory (in our sgs2 with 1 gb ram, that's almost impossible), it removes finished apps from memory automatically. Some apps are kept in memory for faster launch. Idle apps in memory doesn't consume any cpu. Hence it doesn't drain your battery!

AVG Antivirus battery drain?

Has anybody checked their battery usage and noticed AVG anti virus just drains the crap out of the battey? I kill this app about 70 times a day because its running in the background always. I can understand running while installing an app or downloading something from browser. But why killing my battery while the device is idle? Anybody here not use anti virus at all? I thought about getting rid of it but I'm a frequently visit of "other" app markets not ran by google or Amazon. If it makes a difference, I'm running unnamed 1.3.1 with setcpu on conservative. Thanks all and have a nice Turkey day!

Both my wife and I had an 'anti-virus' on our phones for a few months and nothing 'malicious' was ever found.
Nor have we ever had a 'bad' app. At least none that we had installed on our phones that got any news about it being malicious elsewhere on the internet.
Not saying it's not doing anything. But I haven't even heard of anyone being saved from a rogue app by having an anti-virus on their phone.

I just checked, and it is at the bottom of the list. Did you set it to auto-scan daily our something? Or maybe you have a virus that it's trying to defend against.
My phone lasts 19 hours per charge with light-moderate use. I only see AVG when I install apps. I have never even see it do its weekly scan.
If you have AVG pro, maybe someone is using AVG's remote feature to track your GPS positions.
By the way, I hope that when you say that you keep killing it because it is running in the background, it is because you see it running in the task manager (hold down the home key), not in settings-> applications-> running services...because the items in the latter list are just services. Services are basically apps that get CPU time once in a while to see if anything needs to be done (they aren't using the CPU constantly like an app in the foreground would).

News360 app draining battery?

When I check to see what's been using my battery, it shows that the News360 app used 6% of my battery life even though I haven't been using the app. Is it syncing and refreshing in the background and if so, how do I disable it?

[Q] Application which forces all processes to 0% cpu usage when idle?

My idle cpu usage seems a little high and sporadic and I'd like to force them all to 0% when idle but still be able to receive background data like for instance my play store seems to use a continuous idle usage and a few others. I can freeze them with the System Tuner but I'd prefer to Globally force all apps to 0% usage so I'm getting say 1% usage at idle on occasion every hour or few hours? When I use System Monitor, I see my cpu usage kind of jumping from 0 to up to 35-40% while idling and I don't want these apps using any resources at idle. I'm trying to extend battery life a lot more.
My battery life is really good already since I have a 3600mah battery but I could get even better if I can dial in the usage at idle.
Is there application that can do that?
On another note, I can't seem to figure out why my Google Calendar won't open a "New Event" it just sits on the Loading... Screen
Thanks
Greenify! It's in the play store for free
Me Gusta!
Greenify is best for hibernate user apps you can also prevent system apps with Rom Toolbox>app manager>select app>advance freeze>disable useless services
Use Ds battery saver pro for better deep sleep
If your android version is 4+ go to settings>developer options>choose background processes atmost 2

I wish the Developer options for the the services would stick after reboot since it always reverts...

Yes it's reverts in every reboot

None of those things changed it, still getting a minimum of 15% usage at complete idle with 0 processes allowed and close every app after use.
Not sure what do here... Battery life while in use is poor just because of those background load.

Buy betterbatterystats and check wich app or wakelocks are draining your battery,if you find nothing then throw the battery in dustbin.
