Hi there.
I need help with my Hero.
Two weeks ago it got water damaged. I dried it out, and got it all working again (this surprised me), but then on Thursday it stopped connecting to my network (T-Mob UK), giving a Your SIM does not allow connections to this network error.
Now, the radio works as far as I can tell - I can connect to Wi-Fi fine, and when I go to chose your network section it shows me T-Mob, Orange, O2 and Vodafone, so I think the GSM etc. radios are working.
I've tried putting it in my old SE handset, but that has a ****ed Radio, so not got anything conclusive. But it has received messages, so I'm not sure if it is the sim directly at fault.
I've also tried to use an O2 sim in the hero (unlocked) to no luck.
So I would guess its something wrong with the connection between the sim slot, and the sim, or between the slot and the main-board.
But is there anything I can do to test this? Any recommendations for repairs?
Thanks

If it is definitely the phone and not the Sim, you would be best off getting it professionally acid bathed or what ever a phone shop suggests, the back street unlocking ones would normally do it for £15 and that should sort any oxidized solder joints out that could be causing the issue.
If you want to do it your self then take all the screen and bits off your self, lay the main board in ethanol for 12 hours then let it drip dry, give it a gentle buff with a cotton bud and re try! This is just a suggestion so don't go blaming me when you phone explodes!!
Dear all,
I have a Legend with S-ON (1.01), and I used fake-flash to change ROMs. The mobile phone has been fine with a custom ROM for more than 3 months now.
Suddenly, 3 days ago, the phone rebooted while browsing settings and when it came back on, the device could not recognize the SIM card or connect to the network and get a signal.
The problem is weird because the device (a) can find networks if I search for them, (b) can make emergency calls, (c) connects normally to both wi-fi and the SIM 3G internet but does not:
- get signal (always zero lines)
- recognize the sim card (always asks me to rescan for new contacts, and the process fails)
I tried wiping everything, I tried reflashing, I tried flashing another ROM. The problem persists.
Would flashing a new RADIO potentially help? It is the only thing I have not tried.
I am really at a loss here. The device did not fall down, or had a knock or any other user damage. The problem started suddenly and i can'f find a way out of it.
Anyone who manages to find me a solution gets a paypal beer
PS: Something important is that the phone DOES know that SIM card is there, and DOES partially recognize it: I am asked to put my SIM card PIN, which is accepted correctly.
Hey
What I'd do:
1.)Try the SIM in another device - could be a SIM problem...
2.) As you are 1.01, there is no risk in Warranty repair, so unroot and send back to shop if the sim proves OK in another device..
Probably a stupid suggestion but i had at one point no service when my battery cover was not on...
When i was rooting mine, i kept the battery cover off because i was stuck so many times in the middle of running step 1... so never bothered putting the battery cover on...
after i succeeded in rooting, i still saw no service... but as soon as i put the battery cover on , i was able to pick up the network
@QkSi1ver: The Legend's antenna is located in the battery cover, which is why you would have had no reception with it removed.

Which could be the reason for the SIM problems : if it is not set correctly it can't communicate proper with the mobile , that's why it asks for searching for contacts ( I had a similar problem a few months ago )
no network signal!

that just did the trick, uber cool! and yet it sucks, because i wasted most of my sunday and half of today to solve this, wondering why nobody even mentioned connection probs.
maan, i´m tired, i´m going to bed!

Have you checked the settings to make sure it is not actually set fro airplane mode? Also are you sure it is unlocked?

If it locked once you start with non-original operator sim card it will ask you for unlock code, so you will know it's locked
do you receive sim error after airplane mode ?
Mine has a bended / broken sim reader pin and didn't recognize any sim card and after restart I got SIM error msg.
I have somewhat of a like issue. After restart takes a LONG time to connect and update the tile. Wife's phone, will state no service or emergency calls only, but she can text out AND I can always call her, so POSSIBLE the tile is not updating. Sim card replaced twice by ATT. ATT stated working on local towers for LTE upgrade, and after a whole weekend of no text coming in (able to text out)(???) all incoming test text messages (say 25) arrived at 6am on Sunday morning.
no data updating (email) while in this half-working mode. next thing I can think of is get new phone.

If the phone is the ATT model and is still locked to ATT then you obviously have an issue with the phone and should sen it in for service. There is no reason why an ATT phone and ATT SIM should have an issue on the ATT network otherwise.
I have this issue as well but only since I got it back from Nokia repairing the dust in the front camera problem. They changed the internals for some reason and now I have No Service and also now have new IME number. I contacted them and they said try a hard reset which didn't work then said I would have to send it back again for this to be repaired which when I got it back today has the same problem still. There is nothing wrong with my SIM card and have even received a new Orange one which still did the same. When I contacted Nokia they were next to useless saying I need to send it away a 3rd time (my phone was perfect before I sent it away apart from the dust in the front camera...don't I regret getting this fixed now!) which I declined and have asked to speak to the manager. I have to wait 3-4 business days for them to ring me and see what can be done. I know this is probably not much help but will let you know the outcome as it might be a setting or something I can do with the phone.
One thing I have found is Nokia Care is they are the most unhelpful company ever! Basically just suggesting I keep booking it online to be collected for repair. Once this is sorted I hope I never have to deal with them again!
At&T no Signal as well
Default AT&T Lumia 920 bought from ebay NO SIGNAL ! I flashed it but... no signal
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bought this yellow Lumia 920 form USA. I live in Europe.
Unfortunately it was locked, I called AT&T and they gave me an unlock code and now it's unlocked.
I put 2 different SIMS inside but the phone shows no signal at all. It reads the SIM from inside ( services etc) but It will not lock to a signal.
When I boot it it shows an airplane mode and in 2 seconds the no signal icon. The airplane mode is disabled thought I checked enabling and disabling.
I decided to flash it to Rogers after reading all these comments here using Nokia Care Suite. It was succesful. The conversion was from RM-820 AT&T to ----> RM820 Rogers Canada.
I had the ability now to change from LTE to 3G and 2G but to no avail. The signal remained dead and it wouldn't find any signal after searching for new networks associated with my 2 sim cards that I tried.
If I flash it again to the rm-821 euro dev rom will it work ? The thing is that I can't find it nowhere to download it. Where did you guys found it from ?
Thanks
Lumia no signal
Try hard reset!!!
Permanent no signal sounds like it could be blacklisted by the networks, check the IMEI here and it should show if it's blacklisted http://www.amta.org.au/pages/amta/Check.the.Status.of.your.Handset

I had this issue with a replacement Lumia 920 that I ordered online. To fix this you will first need a t5 torx screwdriver in order to remove the two screws from the bottom of the device. Once those are out you have to pry the main body of the phone from the polycarbonate case and expose the bare backside (*giggle*). look to the upper right portion of the device for a really thin coaxial-esque cable... this is the antenna. To fix my issue I simply had to push the connector piece back into it's slot. There will be a firm but tiny click once this is properly inserted and you should now receive a signal on your 920 again. (apparently the build of the phone makes this piece pretty easy to become disconnected which is why we see a lot of this issue from various 920 owners). I hope this helps, if you need further instruction/pictures let me know.

Hi there if you can also send me some pics etc on how to do this. that would be great.
I got this wife for my wife and have it for close to 5 months and it won't work.
And she really loves the phone
thanks
G
I have this same issue, although hitting the phone on my hand or flexing the phone will cause the service to come back until its jostled again. ive tried to find a connection with the antenna but no luck,
I have the same issue too...
At first I notice that my phone became hotter in my pocket and the battery drains quicker than usual.
After that I just thought maybe it was because of the bad signal on that area.
Then I got home and facing the same thing, my 920 still got "no service".
But I notice in the full signal area, my phone still can catch the signal. And when I get into the lesser signal area, all I got is "No service"
I've handed it up to the Nokia Care. And they fix it and cost me Rp.750.000 (US$60-65).
And still I'm having the same problem :crying:
Same problem, no connection on 3g, but 2g works fine
Hi,
I am having a similar issue with my unlocked lumia 920. While using it with 2G I have no problems, I can make phone calls and the internet although slow, works. Whenever I decide to switch to 3G it can no longer connect to the internet nor can I make/receive phone calls.
The antena cable is new and the signal for 3G shows 2-5 bars (but sometimes it looses the signal. Any hints??

tnx very much for advice, i bought used lumia 920 yesterday and signal was very poor and often without reception then tried this and VOILA, there is now full 3G (H) signal in my room. When you push connector here is a smaaaaaaall *click* and thats almost sure sign it's reason for bad signal.
Hi guys,
First post so please bear with me...
The phone was dropped recently and screen smashed up badly.
Replaced screen and thought all was working fine until tried to make a call/send a message when I discovered that the phone had no network access...
Here's the diagnostic process I've been through...
Wifi works100%
Sim works in other phones
Other sims don't work in this phone.
Checked the antenna assembly to ensure contacts okay
Sim definitely reading - able to read sim contacts
Switched to airplane mode, reboot, turn back on - no luck
Searched for networks manually - no networks found at all. Another phone (samsung galaxy gio) finds all three (Optus, telstra, Vodafone)
No networks detected automatically either
No network detected using 2g only
So, if my wifi is working fine, that should rule out an antenna issue which to me indicates a hardware fault with the network side of things...
Is there a way to verify this is actually the case? And if so, is there a way to repair/solve it without doing a motherboard replacement???
Here was I thinking that it would be a cheap, easy repair... :/

If you want it free of cost so first try flashing new firmware via odin and then check it if not then give it to service centre !:good:
Make sure you're using a stock rom just in case it is a software problem, but it looks like a hardware problem to me. I recommend taking it back to the repair centre where you got your screen replaced.
I don't think it is possible without a motherboard replacement.

thanks
I think I'll do a total strip down again just to make doubly sure that i've got absolutely everything connected in the right place and then if it's still not resolved, I'll look at sourcing a motherboard through some chinese friends...
The phone was actually purchased when in china, and as a result I had to flash it with an Aussie rom to get the google back in android. It's all worked fine since then until dropped which makes me think it's hardware related. problem with buying it in China is that I can't seem to find a motherboard online for it galaxy ace 5830i (the 'i' is the problem... can find plenty of 5830 mobos but seems the consensus is using a 5830 mobo will brick the phone...)
Oh well, thanks for the advice guys.
Even i had the same problem, but i solved it by flashing a stock ROM. You can try that or flash a stok kernel
recently I also had this same problem, even installing the stock rom did not solve, so I researched in several places and saw what could be problem with the IMEI, I did the whole process of repair IMEI and my phone is back to normal , try this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968360
Sent from my GT-S5830i
So...
I pulled it apart again to double check everything and noticed that the cell chip had come disconnected from the mobo upon impact and was only attached by three copper strips. After staring at it under a bright light for a while (no magnifying glass was to be found!), we stuck some super glue under it and tried to dry contact all the points... but it still didn't work.
However... after talking with a mate who's into circuit boards, he suggested that I try putting the mobo in the oven at 350 deg for 15 min to resolder all the joints as they use low-temp solder on these sort of boards.
I've got nothing to lose, so will be giving this a try when I get a chance and see if this brings it back!
I'll post back my results.
Yeah, and I recommend using a fine tip on your soldering iron just to be safe.
Not sent from a ACE but a CooperVe using Tapatalk 2.
I'm having problem with connecting my phone new phone (nexus 5 from some shop in China) to 3G. only the 2G is working.
I tried almost anything but still couldn't find the problem that cause it.
I suspect that my IMEI was repaired (I have 2 different IMEI numbers in the back of the case and inside of the back case)
I found that after repairing the IMEI with Octoplus they say that "3G network will become unavailable", How can I check that this is really the problem? And does it can be repaired?
Thank you!
