Brand new phone, had it a week. I decided I wanted to root it, first step is to get it into download mode.
With the phone completely powered off, I hold the volume up key, and plug in the USB cord (which is connected to a Windows 7 machine).
Rather than being greeted with a download mode screen as I've seen on youtube / indicated here, I immediatly get the LG screen, and then a battery charge state screen.
I've tried volume up, volume down...no luck. Just goes straight to LG logo and then battery charge state.
Any ideas?
EDIT:
For those that get this issue, I resolved it.
From the battery screen, I held volume up and hit power. I saw another thread with this same issue, but they didn't post how they fixed it.
Thanks!
Thank you, good info to know just in case. Glad you solved it for yourself and it's good users who share their info here for others to find. Never know when/if an issue like that would pop up for us frequent flashers.
My friend got his new HTC Desire 826 in July 2015. He is having issue with his phone, the screen totally blackouts. He doesn't want to repair the phone because it has no more warranty and will cost much to repair. He asked my help to recover any data possible from his phone.
This was the info I got from him: The phone would restart itself once in a while in the recent few months of use (almost the time that the warranty ended). The screen would black out sometimes, a physical hit on the phone helped to recover it. At the last few moments before the screen totally blackout, the screen showed the mirror image of what it's suppose to show (he had to put it in front of a mirror to read the message). And then it just died and never come alive again. He can't remember whether he set the phone to silent mode.
What I did: Removed and put in the battery, pressing power button gives me a short vibration (I assume that means it can be turned on). Dissemble and reassembled the boards, flex cables etc. No burn mark or broken connection seen. Connect to TV using MHL cable, no signal detected. Soft reset by pressing POWER + VOLUME UP button, it vibrated and screen was still black. Since then, charging after turn on doesn't shows red light below the front camera. The metal cover above the motherboard was usually very hot whenever the phone is on. I'm working like I'm blind, omg >_<.
What's wrong with the phone? What should I do? Possible to repair? Some questions I'd like to ask.
1) Using MHL, does the phone screen need to be working then the TV will show what's on the phone screen?
2) Is there anyway I can connect the phone to other external screen and control externally?
3) I'm hesitant to repair the phone, the heating up of the motherboard scares me that the phone won't last long even after repair. Anyone has this phone and how do u go about this heating issue?
Hi Guys,
Greetings to all . So after failing with Googling and trying on my own, i'm here again with another problematic phone .
(Skip the Description if you want, in short i bought my V10 about 8 months back and i didnt have any issues even with heavy usage/gaming)
I bought the V10 H961N Dua Sim variant used almost 8 months back.During my pre purchase research i became well aware of the infamous "Bootloop of Death" faced by numerous LG V10/V20/G4/G5 phones, But the amazing cost/specs ratio and dual sim support was within my budget and i was willing to take the risk that mine won't be one of the "BAD" ones, and apparently it worked out in my favor.
at the start i was too careful not to even open too many tabs in chrome, but with time i became confident and since after a couple months of buying it i've been using it to have over 35 chrome tabs open at a time, playing some heavy games and compressed movies.
Played PUBG Mobile almost daily for the last month or so, and it just heated up same as my Xperia Z5, with no issues and ho lagging/bootlooping/crashing once.
THE PROBLEM
This Tuesday night, as i was sitting in front of my laptop with the V10 on charge infront of me, downloading several versions of Angry Birds from the playstore (i download a bunch of apps/games at a time and then delete the ones i dont like later) and also it was updating some of the installed apps.
battery (last i checked) was just over 76% or so, and the next time i looked at the phone it was showing the LG Boot Logo (not the animated one, but the static "splash logo" that shows up at the beginning of boot process) . it had turned off and rebooted by itself during charging.
i thought it was nothing, waited for it to complete boot, but when it took longer than normal i pulled out the battery , tried to boot again but again got stuck at the boot logo.
Several retries, same result.
Current State of the Phone
Model : H961N Dual Sim Variant
Firmware : Official Nougat H961N30a_00_0519.kdz Flashed manually via LGUP about 3 months back.
Rooted : No
Bootloader : Locked/Stock State
Problem : Phone gets stuck on LG logo when turned on, waited for upto 15 mins, wont go forward.
There is no apparent overheating i dont feel the phone overheating or anything during boot up process, battery is also normal temp.
JUST ONCE, RANDOMLY, YESTERDAY MORNING IT GOT PAST THE BOOT SCREEN AND WENT UPTO THE LOCK SCREEN, EVERYTHING SEEMED NORMAL AND IT SHOWED THE SCREEN AND ALL THE STATUS ICONS, THEN REBOOTED AFTER LIKE 2 SECONDS .
What i've tried so far
Changed Battery, Didnt Work
Can't get into recovery using hardware keys., so cant hard reset it. (the Vol Down key on it sometimes doesnt work so i dont know if its the same thing causing the Vol Down + Power button combination to not work for getting into recovery mode or i am having the same problem as a lot of other users who also can't access the stock recovery on LG V10.
I can get into "Download Mode" by pressing Vol Up and plugging into the USB port of my laptop.
Phone is not detected by LGUP or Device Manager in windows. if i connect it while powered off, it shows the "charging Screen" for a second, reboots to the charging animation screen and then continues on trying to boot by itself. (yes, my v10 cant charge while powered off, it turns on when i connect to wall charger always)
if i connect it to the laptop while in "Download Mode", still not detected.
phone is not visible anywhere in Device Manager, not detected by LGUP, LG FlashTool, Uppercut in either download mode or connected to laptop while powered off (as it continues on to "charge and power on itself")
I used this same laptop to flash the official nougat rom on this phone about 3 months back All Drivers are installed, using the same version of LGUP as before, with uppercut. also tried with LG FlashTool. but this time not detected by windows/LGUP/LG FlashTool. LGUP says no phone connected, the "COM/Devices" list shows up empty.
Also Tried doing it on another laptop with completely clean OS (free from any previous drivers/apps/android related installations), same results.
Tried it on my office desktop with Win 7, no joy .
Tried several different USB cables (long ones, short ones, and they are all good quality), didn't help either.
Kindly help me in recovering my V10, as its not even detected by windows in "Download Mode', which i can't understand at all.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Following is a list of the versions of drivers/apps i have tried so far.
Drivers
LGUnitedMobileDriver_S51MAN312AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.12.3
LGUP_8994_DLL_Ver_0_0_3_23
LG-Mobile-Driver_v3.14.1
LG-Mobile-Driver_v4.0.3.0
Apps
UPPERCUT_1.0.0.0
LG Flash Tool 2014
UPPERCUT_1.0.0.0
Official LG Mobile Support App.

Hello there,
First of all Extremely sorry for such late reply, after not having any internet access for quite a while, I just t got a chance today to check my emails and any notifications.
I had to disassemble my V10. I'm not sure about the G5, but on V10 the volume keys are a separate flex cable module connected to the motherboard, and the market here is full of dead/bootlooping V10s and G5s so it was an easy replacement to find and install.
But still the problem wasn't resolved.
For the stuck on logo issue, i had to get the cpu reballed on the mobo as a final effort, after trying and failing on everything else for about 2 months. Which was strange because I had absolutely no overheating issues prior to the V10 dying on me as well as no signs of overheat when it was stuck on logo, so I never suspected the infamous "loosening of the cpu chip on mobo" on V10s, G5s V20s etc as the cause of my actual problem.
Also this might be worth pointing out that since my V10 was already disassembled, I decided to install a heatsink (several guides and videos on that available online, do on your own risk).
And also decided to retry my "original" volume keys module.
I found out that one of the connector pins on the motherboard were bent so I very carefully straightened it up, as well as cleaned up some gunk on the module itself under using rubbing alcohol.
After drying it up, it worked flawlessly for a week or so before the volume down key stopped working again. I guess the connector pin under it slipped again, but because of my extremely busy routine now, and also just not feeling the need to take it apart anytime soon so just using my phone just as it is for now .
For volume changes I just use the notification bar, or press volume up once to bring up the volume slider and then lowering the volume form there.
For taking screenshots, I've installed "screenshot touch" app from playstore (free). I already found the screenshot method on V10 quite inconvenient anyways, and the "Capture+" feels too much work for just a screenshot so the app works for me .

Thank you for replying. I implemented the same workarounds for my volume keys also but failed to think of recovery since I usually boot recovery from shutdown menu or term emulator.
I fixed my g5, sounds like we have similar button hardware, I had a few pins that weren't contacting the back of the case which I think is grounding it....I sent them up a bit and was able to boot into twrp. There glitchy again but I just pinch the case a lil and they work(time for a new phone lol)

Good to know that your issue was resolved
Hello,
I have a Startrail 7, Mediatek MT6735M. What happened was that the side buttons, volume and power button, ended up coming out, also the flex cable was cut (as you can see in the photo I attached).
Other notes:
-The mobile phone had ADB activated at the time.
-When I connect the phone to the charger, the screen does not turn on to say the battery percentage, however I do not know if before it did come on when plugged...
-The battery works, because i put it in another cell phone and gives a sign of life.
-When I connect the phone to the PC, for a second it appears in the device manager (I'll attach a photo too)
Needed help getting a call, does anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, probably gonna end up have to do it...
It's a hardware problem and you should contact your provider. You can’t get them fixed online.
Hi to all the XDA community,
It looks like that I am a new member but I have been for several year on XDA (but I lost all the log in details).
The problems I am facing is with a Samsung J6 that my mother in law gave me because one morning didn't show anything on the screen. These are the steps I did:
1. Screen is black, first thought lets charge it. I kept on the charger for ages. When I got back home I was sure that the phone is fully charged (it shows it on my usb hub). Tried to switch it on - Result, nothing is coming up to the screen
2. Hard reset by pressing power button and volume up or down - Result, nothing is coming up to the screen
3. Connect the phone on a laptop to check if the laptop recognises it. The laptop is doing the noise that something is connected and start installing drivers. Seconds later the device disconnected and connected again and this loop of connection and disconnection is happening for ever -Result nothing, only question marks.
4. Thought that is a hardware failure and since the screen doesn't shows anything I bought a new screen. I didn't by an OLED, I bough the cheap one. - Result, nothing is coming up to the new screen
5. I disconnected the battery and install the screen again connect the battery and try the same steps 1 & 2. - Results the same as the steps 1 & 2.
For me it looks like that the phone is bricked (I forgot to mention that my mother in law gave it to someone else before she pass the phone to me, no trust ) and the other guy probably tried to change the ROM or something similar. The boot loop that the phone is doing when I connected on my laptop is not normal (noise of connection and after 1sec noise of disconnection).
Additionally, I am not sure if the screen is working and I am on dilemma, do I have to return the screen to the seller of keep it until find out what is the problem with the phone. Maybe the screen is the faulty part that cause another issue. When I connect the phone on the laptop without the screen is doing the boot loop noise of connection/disconnection. I found out that when the phone is connected on the laptop and I press the power button the disconnection noise is delayed by couple more seconds.
Any help or guidance will be more than welcome.
Obtain the Stock image for your fone from samsung, load it into the version of Odin they suggest, but dont start it yet.
Disconnect fone from pc, and turn it off.
Start Odin flashing
plug fone in
Mb a few steps dif since I last flashed a samsung, but this will fix your fone.
Make sure you got the samsung driver installed in your pc

Thanks for your response.
Samsung drivers are already installed.
The problem that I am encountering is that I can put the phone on download mode. Firstly because I can't see anyhting on the screen and secondly because my laptops can see the device. I tried different cables too but nothing worked.
Since the phone cannot be recognised by the PC, the Odin app cannot see it either.
