No, he has an LG V50.

LG V50 forums must be plenty quiet.

It is somewhat odd that there has been this influx of V50-related posts in the V30 subforum. I get that V50 subforum isn't all that popular but, really, if it's V50-related, that's where it does belong.
Also, portrait videos... EWWWWWWWWWWWW

ive changed from V30 to V50 and have to say WOW.....soooo glad I got rid of V30 now....this V50 is awesome!

Did LG V30 have crappy camera?

Hi to all,
We all love V30. We all wait LG V30 and real photo/video comparison. V30 is the phone with all good things. And the main thing what are we waiting for is camera.
So I search to see witch camera did V30 have and it is Sony IMX351, with 1,6 aperture, with 1pixel size. This means that small pixel is not so good for low lightcand for the details. V30 will catch photos without noise because 1.6 aperture but not so much light in the dark because 1 pixel size. And this camera sensor Huawei P10 use it for front camera. This make me a big disappointed. Why they use a average camera? The competition (Samsung, Google, Appel) use camera with big pixels.
Last night I watch google pixel 2 and how DXOMark write the best phone camera on the market.
Samsung and Appel have very good camera.
Where here is V30? In the middle? Or near like them?
So what you think? Is this camera sensor very bad or not? Is Possible to V30 with software make very good camera?
P. S. And OIS is veey bad on V30, every video is shake so much. Is possible with updates to make OIS+EIS for better stabilization?

His channel is very popular, I don't think he would lie about the devices he compares. After the presentation of the pixel xl, testers could take the phones for a test ride outside. Also same way lg gave test units to some youtubers, that's how he can have both. So you can believe the credibility of this video although unfortunately front-facing camera is a disappointment an there's not much lg can do about that

I'll know soon enough. I ended up pre-ordering one from my carrier a few minutes ago. Says it'll ship anywhere between today and Monday. (Not that I trust that estimate but fingers crossed that it is true.) If it ships today and I have it in hand by the weekend, I have a standard set of tests I can run on it. Otherwise, hopefully it is still here so I can use it at a concert on Wednesday. I'm keeping my V20 so I'll be able to side by side with that.

Hi I would be very interested in the results of your tests and especially the quality you get at the live concert! Please share if you have the time ☺ also a comparison of the audio recording capabilities of the V30 vs those of the v20! They should be quite similar in quality

We will see! I also frequent a dark jazz club a lot here in KC. So I have plenty of opportunities to test audio and video in the absolute worst conditions. I can tell you that the V20 mics using just the HD Audio app that it came up with picks up things pretty clearly. Unfortunately, it also picks up the other people in the club talking too. That's not a knock against the phone though. I'll be interested in seeing how the directional mics compare while recording video. Although, I still need to figure out those sliders.

Looking forward very much to these tests! Thank you so much! I heard a rumour that the V30 mikes cannot be directed like the v20 could but it could be nonsense there are two mikes instead of the three in the v20

Ha! I'm a bit of a photographer already. I shoot with a full frame DSLR and a smaller mirror less in addition to my cellphones. To tell you the truth, I only drag my DSLR out for road trips and special shooting conditions. At this point I do most of my shooting with smaller sensors like my mirror less or cellphone. DSLR sensors are too clinically clean for my tastes. I just reset my Flickr account settings so people can see which shots are done with which camera:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/chimphappyhour/
I will say that when I shoot, most of the shots are going to end up in B&W. That's just my shooting preference.

The information about the V30 is a bit confusing. I've looked my V20 over and over for the three mics it's listed as having and only ever saw two holes for mics, one on top and one on the bottom. In the JerryRig tear down of the V30, he does point out something interesting though. He points out the same two mics but then mentions that the phone's earpiece becomes a mic in very loud conditions. I'm guessing the V20 did the same then and explains why the sound when testing video recording sounds different than if I am just doing audio recording without video.
As for whether the mics are directional or not while recording video, I swear I saw one video where someone was demonstrating it on the V30. Only problem is that I've watched just about every V30 video on YouTube from a lot of the larger tech contributors that I will have a hell of a time trying to go back and look for it. I suspect it will be there.

Yes, like concerts. That was very interesting part of the video.
In LG official web site, now they put info about camera. It is good it see that Slow Motion have 240fps at 720p. But too bad it is not 1080p...
LG V30 camera is phenomenal, Saw a comparison between the Galaxy Note 8, the LG V30 did a lot better, specially the rear cameras., LG V30 should have been released faster and for the DXOmark scores, the V30 should score higher than Galaxy Note 8.

Guys as a long time htc user, I have been on xda for a long time just for htc mega thread. After doing a little research, I noticed that there's no such thread for lg, there are separate threads for lg devices but no mega thread where all but mostly latest devices are discussed. Thank you! You mentioned that the audio recording quality changes between using the camera while on video vs recording only audio with the dedicated audio recording app on the LG, which one gets you the better audio and utilises the earpiece as a mic please? Are you able to record high pitches like a flute or sax on the high register and drum sets?

V30 slow motion bitrate: 10mbps very small

Hi to all
Is possible to increase bitrate of 240 fps slow motion which is 10mbps? It will be much better video quality if it possible to put on 25mbps like GoPro Hero 6.
I don't see the option to do so. Of course, I also don't see the same amount of space dedicated to imaging in a cellphone that I see in a GoPro or any camera for that matter.

A) What are they using?
B) Is it actually enough of a difference that most people can tell?
C) Is it enough to produce image quality that you would ditch using a GoPro for this same work?
D) What penalty is incurred for using this higher bitrate?

Is it possible to change the bitrate on any phone, especially without root? I'm not aware that it's possible to do this. Can you change resolution while recording in 240fps? I haven't tried on V30 but Don't XZ premium is stuck at 720p when recording at 960fps.

Correct, this is a video phone. The concentration is on the 1080 and 4K content creation from a cellphone. (Emphasis on that last part. If you're really worried about video quality, chances are you're using a bigger dedicated camera.) Slow motion is more of a gimmicky side trick and not really the main focus of cellphones. Even the much talked about Sony XZ seems to be so so in the slow motion department.
In the end with all imaging pursuits you have to keep in mind that this is a cellphone. The phrase "jack of all trades, a master of none" applies. If you're worried about slow motion quality they make dedicated cameras for that and they cost a very pretty penny. Even my DSLRs and mirrorless cameras don't really do slow-motion and their entire size and processing systems are dedicated entirely to imaging!

Thx for you answer, but I don't know why are you angry on me? I know you have V30, i don't have yet. But im planing to buy soon as possible. I like V30 so much but I would like to know much more about camera and will LG fix somethings in future updates.?
Why I put all this questions? Because the competition who have the same hardware have something much better then this phone. I want to know what im buying. I will put some examples:
1. LG V30 and OnePlus 5 have EIS. If you compare this two phones V30 video is like they didn't have EIS. This Is just software implementation. OP5 is not video phone, V30 is video phone. What is problem with V30?
2. The same comparison between LG V30 and OP5, when you focus on something and took the photo with OP5 you will never get "White sky" Instead of the blue sky like LG V30. This is not because camera sensor it is because camera software. The Google camera fix this problem on V30...
3. About slow motion, this is comparison between LG V30 vs Samsung S8, go on 6:10 -
You can see how much mire is better S8. And they are much more video examples on Youtube.
Is LG able to make an even better camera in new updates? YES! Do they want it, we do not know that...
Yes you can change the bitrate. Try Open Camera from the playstore. you should be able to change bitrate with that app. It would just depend on the phone whether it can handle it or not.
I dont see a reason why not trying to increase Video Bitrate. There where camera rom's out in the past that significantly increased the recording bit-rate
of some phones. For example my very old HTC Sensation had a camera mod that pushed up FullHD recording from ?16 to something about 40! Mbps, that was absolutly georgeous! If the hardware supports it in any way why the heck dont try it and let the people decide themselves instead of nip the idea in the bud by arguing "buy a real ...blah ", "its not intended blah.."

You have a point. This is where dev work is very helpful in pushing the limits of what our phones can do. These manufacturers spend a few months creating the hardware and software, then move on to the next phone coming out. Rarely do they go back and IMPROVE features (unless it's bug fixes). Whereas many people keep their phones for 2 or 3 years. Devs have time to examine, tweak, improve in ways the manufacturer design team never would. To the OEM, once it's shipped, it's shipped.
This is why even LG G4 devs are porting features from our LG V30, that LG would never give the G4. But in the same vein, XDA devs can give the V30 features LG wouldn't give the V30 because they ran out of time before it shipped.
There's always areas of improvement. This is a great phone with great features, I think one of the two best out there right now (along with the Note 8) -- but the best for me. I own three now, and while I'm a fan I'm not going to say everything is perfect.
If someone can improve the bit rate of slow mo, go for it.
If someone can create a great bokeh effect portrait mode with LG camera, go for it.

Not sure if you're aware , but by now Bokeh effect already works great with the V30. Both on the selfie camera and on the rear main camera.
Also, HDR+ works on all 3 lens and it is amazing.
Last, the quality of the selfie is pretty good now! Even in low light.
(Just get the cstark27 google cam apps - two APK - one for wide and one for the rest).
This makes ****load of difference, making it probably the best camera phone out there.
Just make sure "HDR+ Enhanced" is chosen.

Which one should i choose Lg G6 again or go for the V30?

Hello to everyone! i'm new posting on xda but, this forum has always been my reference in phones since almost 10 years and until today i've never needed to post anything because everything I was looking for was already answered
But today is different, to put ourselves in context I own a LG G6, I LOVE the phone, but yesterday, the camera glass cracked like a cookie, at night in a table, alone, for no reason, and Amazon refunded the money to me, so I was planning to buy another LG G6, when I found the V30. With the refund a new LG G6 would be 100€ less (than what I paid initially) and the V30 about 120€ more.
And thats my question, i've been looking all the videos, checking the reviews, comparisions, everithing... but i'm right where I started, I don`t know what to do.
One of my biggest fears with the V30 is de OLED screen, i had a Nexus 6, and the screen went burned in and yellowish, and thats not something that i want to repeat, i've seen some images of the pixel 2 XL with less than 6 months and they looks awfull, the V30 seems to have the same screen but i could not founth anything about it... (besides, I really like the G6 screen)
I really like the G6, it's almost the perfect phone for me, size, specifications... but i think that if I pick the V30 i could end winning in quality and support.
The rest of the specs are obviously better, Quad DAC (pretty interesting), better glass and sensor in rear camera, bigger screen, processor and capacity...
can you give me a hand?
Thanks a lot
My opinion is the V30 is what the LG G6 SHOULD have been. 64GB storage, Qi wireless, quad DAC -- in all the phones, not "regionalized" specs.
Plus dual rear cameras with an IMPROVED wide angle lens, etc.
Even in design, the G6 was the prototype for the V30. The V30 has more "finished" aesthetic.
Also, Snapdragon 835 vs 2016 Snapdragon 821.
LG V30 has software to prevent burn in that apparently the 2017 Google Pixel 2 XL doesn't have. It's mentioned in one of the articles I read.

Final thoughts
There you have it, our look at the LG V30 vs LG G6. It should be clear to anyone looking at these two devices, that the V30 offers the superior experience. It just has more features and better specs, and it’s arguably a nicer-looking phone than the LG G6. It took them a while, but it looks like LG has finally hit gold. Let’s just hope customers will reward them by opening up their wallets.

If you can get the LG V30 open market US998, you can even unlock the bootloader and root. Or at the very least, use it on any carrier you wish. Ah, you mentioned Euros. So, you want the H930 (V30) or the H30G (V30+). That's the European equivalent of the open market US998, eligible for bootloader unlock.

Thanks a lot ChazzMatt!
iI've placed the order to Amazon (the H930) it should arrive this week, if it's as good as i've been reading, the v30 should be amazing
Yeah man, there is no doubt, the v30 is superior in every way. They took what was good about the g6 and added that to the content creation stuff the V series has to offer.

The V30 is an upgraded G6.
Do you want the G6 or an upgraded version of it?

Yes it sucks, but looking at LG's previous flagships, I'm not even surprised, and I did not have high expectations. Nevertheless I'm almost certain that we'll get pie somewhere in 2019. I bought my g6 because it was cheap, had a high quality build and a stellar camera. However, I do miss stock android on my nexus 5x, and if we won't get any news about pie until Q3, then I'll probably root my phone and install a custom rom.

i dont know what phone you came from before your G6 but saying G6 have "stellar camera", men, you are so wrong. i can say thats my old V10 have better camera quality in photo and video than my G6 from far far away, G6 have a better screen with HDR and thats what mask the quality of the photos...and they are OK, not stellar.
Video from G6 its the worst i ever see in a high end phone, ridiculous over sharpened imagedestroy all the quality on videos...its a gorgerous device but in cameras my V10 do better for sure.
Now, talking about Pie, we will get it, maybe mid-July or after July until December this year yeah, cause G7, V30, V40 are first to this update roadmap by device age thats make sense...but yes we gonna get it, sooner or later...
hope to see some UI/UX changes like volume slider on the side instead of top and so little changes like that will bring to this device another life.

I came from the nexus 5x, and I have not tried the camera om the LG V10, but it's hard for me to belive, that it's better than that of the g6. After I started using gcam, the photos began to look great. Although I do agree that the video sucks on the g6, however I don't use my phone to record videos. The only real complaints I have with the g6 are the slow updates and the terrible battery life.
Anyways back to the topic, I do agree with you, and I hope we'll see LG make some UI changes, because I'm quite frankly tired of how the UI looks. But knowing LG, they'll probably do a security patch, make the navbar icons more rounded and call it a day.

Seriously there would be good custom rom, and many here have stopped developing for the G6 custom roms
I concur the camera sucks unless you are outdoors.
My camera works fine indoors and I almost never use the flash. Having said that, I don't think we are getting Pie and I frankly don't care. The phone works fine as is and there is nothing in Pie that I really need. Updating just introduces other problems.

If the g6 gets android pie they'll update the UI to the lg g7 UI cause for lg every 2nd major update they update the UI to the latest. Like the g3 when it got android 6.0 the UI got updated to UX 4.0 (lg g4 UI) or the lg g5 getting updated to android 8.0 it got UX 6.0 (lg g6 Oreo UI)

What is the latest stock status of LG V30?

What is the latest stock status of LG V30?
(a pure stock device that has never been rooted, never custom rommed, and updated only trough OTA)
I mean:
- which version of Android does it have?
- what is the latest security patch? ex. March 2019?
- was there ever a change of user interface (a user interface is like in samsung - TouchWizz, SamsungExperiance, One UI)

Oreo, but Pie is coming this quarter.
February is the latest for some, January for others. LG staggers updates, they don't push same out at the same time.
It's the LG interface.

Is it likeley for Pie to destroy the fantastick user interface of LG in Oreo?
Is the user inferface still the same in LG V40 and LG V50?
+1 Thank You

Don't know. I don't have V40 or V50 and likely never will. No notches for me. I do have V35, along with a few V30/V30+.

The notch can be disabled on V40 (settings or app)
Can You answer the same questions from 1st topic about V30+ and V35 ?
And Why do you own several?

My answers are for the V30.
Because it's the best phone out there that can also be rooted. I know you are asking about stock, and my wife has pure stock. I have rooted stock.
LG V30/V30+
* 1440P OLED (537 ppi)
* Qi wireless charging
* 3.5mm headset jack
* Quad DAC
* DTS 3D stereo (requires root)
* IP68 dust/water resistance
* rear camera OIS on normal lens - plus 120 degree wide angle lens
* superfast fingerprint sensor
* 64GB (V30) or 128GB (V30+) internal storage
* microSD port for additional storage
* bootloader unlock and root
* no notch
* fantastic battery

The UI for V40 & G7 still looks the same as ours except for a few settings that are specific for them like the boombox speaker, far voice recog etc. And no, you can't disable the notch, you just have the option of coloring the screen portion on it's sides to mask the fact that it's there. That notch and the 107 camera are the reasons I went with a V30 instead of the newer 2.
The pie gesture nav is prolly going to be the only major change coming when it arrives.

My wife (V30) and and I (V30+) have one each. I'm letting my elderly mother use one (V30), and I'm paying her phone bill. Got her off Tracphone MVNO and onto my AT&T Prepaid account. And I have a new one V30+ in box, just in case one of those gets lost/stolen.
At one point I had five, but I gave my that one to my sister. (The sister I rescued from iPhone. The other sister is too far gone to be helped.)

1.So the only reason You didn't buy V40 was that da#$ notch?

V40 doesn't have everything on that list. Like as good a wide angle camera and root for the model I need.
If you want V40, go buy V40. My list of "must have" is my list.
And yes, I hate the notch. V35 doesn't have it, so why does V40?

Your list is kinda my lifst also. I like very much the things I can see there.
I thought the only change in V40 would be +10 to Snapdragon's number and maybe new wallpaper, better bat and cam.....
Please tell me PLEASE from YOUR SUBJECTIVE point of view : If I'm beginning to like or even love V30 day after day I'm using it should I buy like You did a one for the box, cause it's like the person in the shop who sold it to me - it's not the youngest model. It was March 2019. I got a good deal on that phone.

From the last time I found a phone I really loved (late 2014 Moto Quark: Droid Turbo, Moto Maxx, Moto Turbo), it was three years before I found a phone with features/specs good enough to replace it.
If something had happened to either mine or my wife's phones, it would be DAYS before I could buy identical phone off eBay, and who knows the condition? So, in early 2015 I bought a 3rd new-in-box Moto Maxx, just in case.
Sold it when I bought my LG V30 phones, but now have done the same thing with V30. Insurance policy. I can have it up and running in a few minutes...
Except for the V35 (still no TWRP and only root from Chinese sellers), there's no other phones that come close to this V30 series. I can easily see myself keeping this phone through end of 2020.
I'm certainly not getting the V40 or V50.
