OK, I have a XTZ WiFi only (SGP311) which ran on stock with the latest official OTA (4.2.2 I think it was?)
Basically, the thing is completely unmodified with the exception of using permanent root through vroom utility. No custom recovery, nothing. (I am not sure if rooting via vroom also unloks the bootloader) Now yesterday, I restored some apps/data through Titaniumbackup and when rebooting the device after that things went sideways.
When turning on I just get up to the colormorphing ribbon animation which halts after a few seconds and then cycles the tablet into another reboot. I have searched up and down, figuring I'd just hardware reset the thing but there really is no physical reset buton, eh?
How do I get my Tablet reset back to factory? Isn't there some kind of Sony bootloader (like HBOOT on HTC) which one could use to reset it?
I seem to be able to get it into fastboot mode, at least I get a reply for the command "fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version" (which is 0.5). How could I wipe/factory reset from here? Or can I just flash a recovery, even if unsure if bootloader is locked/unlocked? Or would I rather flash a FTF from here? Whats my best course of action?
Any input greatly appreciated

dont worry, had bricked mines too, followed the following steps and got it back woking ........
1.get a stock firmware (As an FTF file), and get sonyericsson Flashtool.
2.Turn off the device (hold volume up, and power, for about ten seconds, until you see the LED flash three times). The device is now off. Hold down the "volume down" button, and plug in the USB connection to your computer. The LED should turn green, and the S1boot device should appear.
3.You can now flash the device back to Sony stock using the flashtool
4. pick the firmware you downloaded (FTF FILE)....... and flash it ..... ALL DONE !!!
please let us know if you fixed it .....
OK, thanks I will try that. I have looked into that but as of now I could not find a localized version. Mine is from Germany, and all I find is Japan and US versions, so is there no European / Euro/MiddleEast (EMEA) version at all? Can I just use the most recent Japanese one and it will have all languages available?
I will check out the flashtool now, maybe I can just issue a data/cache wipe and start fresh with the already existing firmware? That would be a good feature, skipping potential problems by using the wrong / incompatible FTF I guess.
Thanks so far.
no problem at all ....

the best solution i would recommend you right now would be the following:-
1. download and install the official sony flash tool known as EMMA , link is :
http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/how-to-download-and-install-the-flash-tool/
2. after installing it, follow the instructions to flash the FTF file
(it will download and flash the GLOBAL UNBRANDED firmware, which will contain all various languages)
3.after installing it, your tablet will be running stock 4.2.2 ....... no wories at all
always keep in mind that it is really hard to brick a sony device, it is always recoverable !!!

also before you do that, take a look at this link, i found the german FTF file for you

Oh wow, you are great, thanks for the effort on your side. Unfortunately when I was fiddling with the tablet XDA took its server switch downtime and I missed the post until now.
However, fortunately I was not even forced to go the whole nine yards. After realizing that I would not quite get anywhere until I took the plunge and officially unlocked my bootloader. Once I had that done I was immediately able to issue a cache/data partition wipe command via fastboot command line. At that point I just had a brandnew out of the box state and restored my stuff from there without fiddling with FTF etc at all.
Thanks for your great help anyway. May I just bother you with one more question? Now that the glove dropped and the bootloader is open I might as well go for a decent recovery. However I am at a total loss when chosing one. There is CWM and TWRP, one is said to be buggy (no recovery throuch volume key power on) sometimes it says its for sgp321 and not the WiFI only, then someone claims the opposite.
Could you please point me to any of those recoverys, fully functional on a SGP311 and conveniently flashable via adb/fastboot? I am not familiar with flashtool and would hate to screw things up with a wrong click. The sdk command line tools I have more familiarity with... Also, its just about recovery for nandroid with me, no desire to run a custom ROM or CM 10/11 or something.
Thamks a lot and have a good one!
sgp321
Hello Doomlord,
i hope you can help me out. i have tried to use your method "flash old kernel, to root 2.67".
the log of flashtool shows me that the tablet can't reboot, because it still in "flashmode".
in the log you can see i tried again the new kernel with the hope that everything will go right - but without luck.

Bricked device
Hi, I am in a similar situation. I have an XTZ SGP311 which is completely stock apart from rooted with the vroot tool. I stupidly tried to change fonts with a font installer from the Play store, and when I rebooted the tablet it cycles between the Sony and Xperia screens. I am trying to unlock the bootloader to restore with EMMA. The EMMA tool recognises the tablet when I connect it in Fastboot mode. But when I try the fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version command I just get <waiting for device>
Can anyone give any advice on what I can try next to unbrick my XTZ?

Hold VOL+Power for 10 sec to switch it off. Then reflash with Flashtool 0.9.18.6 or restore with xperia-companion.
I tried this version of Flashtool and also the newer one, with no success.
I'm trying now a downgrade for 10.6.A.0.454 to see if works. Like it's a softbrick, I can get in the flashmode, turn off and even the Sony Companion does execute the repair update for the latest but when I turn on, it shows the Sony Xperia screen then black screen and hangs like that forever.
All of this with 100% battery full.
Now I'm willing to sacrifice a goat or a bigger animal to achieve success

Just flashed using Flashtool 0.9.18.6 and downgrade to SGP311_10.4.1.B.0.109_CE

Dear XDA Developers,
I recently purchased an xperia pro mk16i from china, through ebay.
When trying to unlock the bootloader through fastboot; it already was.
The phone came with android 2.3.4, (in dutch, my native language, which struck me as odd) I believe.
I followed a tutorial to install sailfish, and all was fine; but I skipped a step that asked for stock android ICS to make sure the partition layouts and firmware was correct.
Trying to go back to stock and flashing a ftf for my phone with flashrom is where the trouble started, I never managed to flash anything through flashrom, despite trying everything I could find. (no driver issues)
Where I am now:
-I can flash a boot.img through fastboot, and cyanogenmod just fine (everything boots) but my touchscreen won't work
-Flashrom mentions an unofficial bootloader, and gives an error relating to loader.sin when trying to flash anything.
-Trying 'repair my phone' in sony pc companion states at the last moment (when connecting phone in flashmode) that there is no software available for my phone
How can I fix my phone again?
I tried emma; which mentions my phone is locked; though the bootloader has to be unlocked for I have used a custom rom.
flashtool mentions a nonstandard loader as well.
I think I somehow have a strange nonstandard but patched bootloader.
How do I flash a stock bootloader so I can unlock it properly, and flash a stock rom/ftf?
This keeps getting worse; I can't enter fastboot anymore (and cwm too)
that happened after trying restore in s1tool.
since then, my bootloader version is in capital R, not small r, indicating it is locked.
trying the unlock method with testpoint appears to work, however after disconnecting the phone, it resets back to R4A069
trying to flash with s1tool flashes adsp.sin correctly, but gets stuck on the loader just like flashtool
FATAL ERROR [ SECURITY_CLASS: SIN_HEAD_VER, Failed_to_verify_sin_header ]
I removed loader.sin from the ftf archive and flashed it with s1tool and it worked!
I forgot about simlock.ta, so I flashed that too :/
anyways, phone boots now, touchscreen still doesn't work, I have usb debugging / can access adb now, but I still can't boot into fastboot.
Hello guys, today it's a really bad day for me. My M4 is now totally bricked.
Here's why:
I installed CM 12.1 and I will get back to stock, but my phone not enter in flashmode. So I flashed a zip file of stock rom but it not booted. I want to get Flashmode back, and I find a flashable zip that restore flashmode in Sony Xperia M. I flashed it and... bye bye M4. Now the phone only enter in SOMC FLASH DEVICE, Flashtool not flash, but say:
Device connected with USB debugging OFF. For 2011 devices line be sure that you aren't in MTP mode.
Sometimes enter in Unkown device. I have all drivers and I'm using original cable with USB 2.0 port. Now I'm trying to restore with PCC.
I removed the battery connectors for a while, put them back, but nothing changed.
My battery is at 100%.
What should I do?
So flash mode does not work anymore? This may seem inappropriate to say now that your phone is dead but if you have technical experience you could make a guide to opening and repairing the M4 or at least take pictures. But if flash mode or fastboot works try to restore it first
Well... Sorry to hear that :/ but uh..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/yureka/help/question-qualcomm-download-mode-k-t3068040
It uses a MSM8939 board same as ours. It's up to you if you want to attempt it but I'm suggesting not to.. Good luck anyway!
Thank you very much! Firstly I will try to send it to the shop where I buyd (sorry my english) and if they don't change the phone I will try this. Really thank you again!
EDIT: Ok, I am following the tutorial, but my M4 show only qhsusb_bulk with no driver. What I have to do?

probably you flashed custom kernel/rom with bootloader unlock=NO , you can try the S1 tool to restore your bootloader but you must have the original one.

you must have qhsusb_dload detected if yes then download this zip extract it and run s1tool, you must copy boot.sin and s1boot from your stock rom, the two files inside the zip are not for your C3, but you can try at your own risk.

Hi guys, a friend asked me to repair her tablet Xperia Z4 SGP771, it does not boot at all.. It does have access to fastboot mode (blue light) and flash mode (green light).
This device had the bootloader unlocked and was rooted and, for some reason, she tried to factory reset it. It is dead since then...
I have no clue of which ROM version it had, or CDA, firmware.. location etc...
When I connected the device on PC (Win10) and try to verify connectivity via adb cmd the device list is empty, but when I tried to reboot into bootloader it was successful. (see pic1.jpg attached)
I tried to flash TWRP via fastboot but no success, see pic2.jpg, it says FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
I verified connections via flashtool, it says: Device Status: FASTBOOT mode, see pic3.jpg, which seems to be working fine..
Now, I was thinking to download a generic FTF firmware using XperiFirm and then flash it via Flashtool, is there anything I should know before proceeding on this step? I will wait for any guide/light from you guys... thx in adv
Hi,
Flash any MM 6.01 firmware (32.2.A.5.11). No Nougat firmware.
Here is an old guide to flash a firmware but you can use it : http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...peria-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool/
And upgrade FlashTool to 0.9.23.2

I tried that but it is failing in the middle of the process. See pic, any other idea?
get the LATEST version of flashtool
you also might try another FTF in case something is wrong with your download
check that the drivers for your operating system are properly installed an up to date (more on that in my [GUIDE])

after upgrading FlashTool to 0.9.23.2, I was able to flash the rom SGP771_Customized NOBA_1295-7869_32.2.A.5.11, the device is working fine now.
Hi - have been searching these forums for days now but cant find a solution.
I am OK at flashing etc but am stuck now. Phone is stuck at Sony logo and won't go any further.
Phone is an Xperia M4 (E2303) and the bootloader is locked - have tried unlocking it but get 'Failed - command not allowed' so i'm guessing it is not unlockable!
I can't get into recovery (nothing happens when i try) and cant get into FlashMode either. I plug usb into phone while holding the volume down key. I CAN get into Fastboot mode which seems to work fine and is recognized ok by PC - drivers all installed ok.
Is there a way of flashing an FTF using Fastboot rather than Flashmode? or even installing any recovery. I have 32 and 64-bit Flashtool installed, i have FTF files and i have EMMA.
Can anyone help please? I would be very grateful - many thanks - ian
With bootloader locker you won't be able to flash anything. I had the same problem.
Desperately, my friend thought it was a good idea to put the phone on the refrigerator for a while.
Surprisingly, in the next day, I turned it on and the cold phone booted normaly and then I was able to set OEM unlock authorization on developer settings and unlocked the bootloader with sony unlock key.
Then I tried to flash a twrp, but I'm stuck back on boot loop again, and fridge didn't help this time.
Power OFF phone, then hold together for at least 30 sec in this order "volume down" + "volume up" + "power button". Then release 3 buttons and try to power on phone with power button. This procedure will revert your phone back to default settings.

Hi there,
Same problem as OP here.
I am trying to revive my wife ex-phone, model 2303 which has been forgotten for two years at least.
Stock rom
No root
Bootloader locked
Stuck at Sony Logo when starting up the phone.
Can boot in FastBoot (blue light) and is detected by PC
Can boot in FlashMode (green light) but PC doesn't detect anything. Nothing appears in Peripherals.
Any advices ?
What can be done in FastBoot mode with a locked bootloader ?

In FastBoot, Sony Emma does not detect phone neither.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
Which version of flashtool would you recommend ?
Would it change anything as the phone is not detected in device manager anyway ?
