Battery hours - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 General

Want to increase the battery life of your Galaxy A series?, you don't need root, flash or weird stuff. Just change the launcher and you'll notice a big improvement.
One UI is a glutton.
Personal recommendation: Evie or Microsoft Launcher.

[Q] [SGS2] Will more homescreens eat up more battery??

Hello,
I'm on SGS 2, lite'ning rom 2.2 and i use launcherpro plus cause it looks great.
Now... if i use like 6-7 homescreens with calender, friends, facebook etc...will it eat more battery than using 1-2 homescreens?
It should not right? cause the program itself is running...
Any thoughts are welcome..
greets
maybe my android os = 50 % :S
I dont think that the pure amount of homescreens drains more or less battery, but ofc. the more active widgets(Twitter, News, ...) you use, the more battery will be used.
More homescreens makes the process use up more memory. With you using more widgets, your Launcher Pro will use up more memory. More memory usage equals more battery power is necessary. So if you USE those homescreens they'll suck your battery dry.
Btw, you made two threads.
Will asking the same question twice eat up more forum space?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168611
It's not about more Home screens but the widgets in them. More widgets=More battery drain, especially the one like Accuweather which continuously searches for place and refresh temp at an specified interval unless you stop automatic refresh.
Regards.

[Q] How do i reduce launcher lag?

i've tried them all...
i have probably 50+ apps
arc launcher: smooth, but still has to redraw homescreens occasionally and app drawers more often than not.
GO launcher EX: my favorite, but still had app drawer and homescreen redraw, don't like dock.
TW4: very very smooth, but every now and then, would freeze my Vibrant. tried countless ones from countless ROMs.
TW3: I figured it would be better, since it's the phone's native launcher, and im using a themed one based on the Simply Honey default launcher. smooth, but still has redraw in app drawer, and occasional lag on homescreen.
i've also tried the usual launcher pro and ADW....dont like the docks, and after a few days of use, would LAG....
is there a way to have the launcher stay in memory to reduce said lag?
ROM: Simply Honey 5.1
Theme: Simply Bloody
Kernel: Talon T5s, Bullet when I need GPS
Mods: FFC, GPS
There are several ways to smooth out your launcher and your smartphone experience in general.
1) Overclock your CPU. Multiple kernels support overclocking. Nearly all Vibrants can handle 1200mhz, and many can go up to 1440mhz without any tweaking.
2) Change your governor. Most people use the Conservative governor, which while great for battery life, is not so good for smoothness as it takes too many milliseconds to ramp up to full speed. Using Performance will keep your CPU at max clock speeds while you're using it, and your phone should still go into Deep Sleep mode when the screen is off, so the effect on battery life isn't too drastic. Ondemand is, I believe, the default governor for the Vibrant, and a good middle ground.
3) Switch to MIUI. This may be true for all AOSP ROMs, or all Gingerbread ROMs, but my personal experience is only with MIUI, and MIUI is the only ROM I've used that didn't feel like an incremental upgrade. Under MIUI and OC to 1200mhz, my launcher (the default MIUI launcher because it's quite wonderful) is perfectly smooth. 60 frames per second or better at all times. I've tried any number of tweaks, but when I was on Froyo, any and all launchers I used lagged to some degree. Not so with MIUI.
4) Zeam Launcher. It's very minimalist, but also has an excellent feature which allows you to perform certain functions by swiping or double tapping the screen. It's also the smoothest launcher I've used on Froyo.
Hope that helps!
I had been a long time Launcher Pro+ devotee; up to just a few weeks ago. After a increasing problems with start up and widgets & apps freezing, I tried Zeam. It was just a whim; I really didn't expect much. It took a while to get used to too; mostly because I was so conditioned to the gestures and settings I had on LP. I'm loving it now though. For a "minamalistic" launcher, it has quite a few features. Features that actually took me a few days to even notice. My Vibrant is flying again. It is such a smooth launcher. Give it a try.
And let us know what you think.

Battery drain with go launcher?

I noticed my battery doesn't last as long as some of the other users on here and I was wondering if those with 20+ hrs of battery life are using any other launchers aside from stock?
I have come to exclusively rely on Go Launcher EX
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
I have used Go Launcher since day one and get around 28-32 hours of battery life, but I would recommend zeam if you wanna try another to test it yourself.

Can you share your secrets? I am getting about 18-22hrs.
thats not the first time I've read about weak battery life while using go launcher.

I took your advise too and tried ZEAM and find it pretty nice so far. Very small foot print on the system resources I beleive too.
I had LauncherPro Plus, but all the features (I couldn't resist them) seem to use up more CPU thus shortening battery life. I only need the battery to last me from when I wake up until I go to bed since I charge it each night, but it's nice to know i could go longer if I happen to forget my charger.
i'll try Zeam again. I had it on my captivate but I had a problem where the launcher seemed to "reload" every time I went back to the homescreen. The icons took a good 5 seconds to appear each time. It got annoying fast. Maybe its not a problem anymore, though.
I'll give zeam a shot too and see how it goes. thanks.

so far, its working much better on this phone than on my captivate. We'll see about battery life over the next 24 hours
I tried it out and it felt a little clunky compared to go launcher, plus I lacked a few features I've come to rely heavily one *Vertical scrolling app drawer for one.* So I am going to stick it out with Go launcher and try to optimize and conserve as much as I can. I removed the TW launcher. We'll see how that affects things if at all. Should boost battery by not having that doing things in the background that I don' want or need.

That's the only way to remove it...root and uninstall
I noticed extra battery drain while using go launcher. i love that launcher though for the gestures it has but it ate too much battery. im using launcher 7 now and getting WAY better battery life

Must have missed it. I'll experiment some more with it later.
I have used Go Launcher for a while now. Love it! However LAST UPDATE KILLED MY BATTERY. Seriously used 65% of my battery in 7 hours! I uninstalled battery life is fine now. Thank God!
It's disappointing to know that its eats up that much battery. hope they come out with updates to fix it.
after using zeam launcher for a day, i dont notice any additional (or less) battery drain compared to Launcher Pro. At idle, my phone dies about 3% per hour on each launcher.
Don't notice any drain with Go either. Tried Zeam but couldn't find a way to make folders (is that true?), and love the gestures and other Go products so pretty happy ATM.

Launchers

Looking for opinions and advice here.
I'm currently running the stock TW launcher. I would like to use a custom launcher, but my experience is that every time I do, I get a bad battery drain. Most recently, I put Go Launcher on my Skyrocket and it resulted in an extra 3-5% drain/hour. I have used most of the launchers on the market at one time or another and I have a premium license for Launcher Pro.
Anyone running a custom launcher? If so, have you noticed any extra battery drain? Any recommendation for one that works best on the Note? I'm afraid to try Go again, since this phone is pretty much the same hardware as my Skyrocket and I'm sure the battery drain will be the same.
Its going to be hard to estimate battery drain for the first few days. I'm using ADW Laucher Ex, and it seems to have improved performance a notch.
I use Go Launcher EX exclusivly....so many cutomization options and i have never had any lag or issues. The themes are endless.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Go Launcher and I like it. The problem is, every Samsung phone I have installed it on started having a noticeable battery drain. I tested it on the GS2 and Skyrocket. I confirmed that the drain went away as soon as I uninstalled it. Since the Note is basically a bigger Skyrocket, I'm almost positive I'll get the same results.
Ive always used launcher pro on all my devices, better performance, and never noticed any extra battery drain. If u try it, go into settings and make this change. Preferences/ Advanced/Memory Usage Settings/ Homescreen Cache Type/ Light. Without doing this, the home screen transitions were very laggy.

I like a very minimalistic phone, so I prefer Zeam launcher. Its very basic and easy to use.
Here's another one that works pretty well. Home screen works only in portrait mode though.

My first impression
After using the phone for about 2 full days now I can say that I am sticking to the default TW Launcher for now. I tried Launcher Pro, Go Launcher EX, ADW EX, and found that none of them run as smooth as the default launcher. There is a thread in the International Galaxy Note section about this as well. I actually like the TW launcher so I don't mind it.
Anyone tried SPB 3D launcher yet??

Yes. My experience is: Its fun for about 10 minutes. Doesnt have enough integrated widgets and is otherwise slow and after a short while; annoying. I prefer GoLauncher or Native TW
Go Launcher is the only one I fool with anymore... it's got good performance and easily change anything on it.

None, I've always used it so used to battery life but battery life on this phone is awesome

try VTL launcher
I used Launcher 7 (Windows Phone 7 clone) in the Skyrocket, but it doesn't work in the Galaxy note. Had great battery life with it, and it's crazy fast.

I love GoLauncher but I have to agree, it really drains the battery fast.
VTL launcher might be nice but it costs $3.00. Do not want to pay for a launcher before I try it.
I have been trying the stock launcher but the killer for me is I can't change the dock icons (I don't think) If someone can tell me how to do this that would be great!

Go Launcher EX lags when scrolling home screens for me, where as the default touchwiz launcher doesn't. Which is too bad, because I'd really like to use GO Launcher... especially for the scrollable/resizable widget support. I might give ADW EX/Launcher Pro another go, I purchased both a while back.

[Q] Which launcher consumes less battery?

Hello xda members!
Well I saw many threads about most popular launchers, about battery tweaks about ROMs and about kernels.
I believe all of us are trying to make the battery of our beloved Samsung Galaxy S II last longer. Some of us we are tweaking the kernels and/or flashing new ROMs all the time and/or changing to a bigger battery.Well I was wondering myself about launchers.Which launcher should we choose...
So I came up with 3 (at the moment) questions.
All the launchers consumes the same battery and RAM?.And If not,
1st...as the title says, which launcher is consuming less battery?
and 2nd which Launcher consumes less RAM?
This thread is about comparing and sharing our experience and our results.
Of course every device is different.
Thanks anyway guys.

Whatever the stock launcher is for the rom you're using (Touchwiz for stock, Trebuchet for CM9, etc, etc). Any other launcher you use will be effectively run over the top of that, and naturally carry some kind of battery penalty compared with using the stock launcher.

Or you can disable the stock launcher with Gemini App Manager and the stock launcher will not run in background. At least thats what I did...

You'll still have system processes associated with the stock launcher running. There's no way around that. And obsessing about every last 0.0001% of battery drain becomes exactly that. Enjoy your phone, and use whatever launcher has the features you want (and get a bigger/more batteries)

I tried Go Launcher EX and its my personal favorite launcher, however that consumed a lot of power for me, so now i am using apex launcher which seems to a little less than Go Launcher EX however i would definitely say stock launcher uses the least battery.
What i wanted to know was, if you decide to integrate a third party launcher into the ROM as a system app via titanium backup for example, and then freezing the stock launcher, would this consume less power as then it will be running from the system ROM rather than internal/external sd? any thoughts on that?
I find Nova Launcher doesn't use much battery when i check the battery stats
I see many of you have different opinions...Well here are mine
I've tried Touchwiz, for some reason is not working properly. :/
I've tried Zeam Launcher which I liked it best but also for some reason made my phone runs more slower which I guess it means that consumes more RAM.
I've also tried ADW Launcher which is good(for my opinion) but I had some problems with freezing sometimes.
Xperia Home Launcher is the one that I found that is running always smoothly,at least to my device, never freezing and about the battery...says 3% after 2 days and 7 hours of normal using the phone without charging(If anyone wants my ex tweaks settings let me know).
