about to smash both xperias and pull out my 3210!! help - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

evening all,
can someone please help, cause i am banging my head against the wall out here! got a new xz2 compact, have an old z5, before had the original z..
from memory pc companion did allll the work, messages/ photos apps and data everything this new xperia companion transfer bollocks with wifi and google drive is driving me up the wall
ive managed to load my contacts and photos and calender on the xz2/ however messages only loads up until 2016? (didnt even know i had messages from back then on there cause the phone is so slow it just crashes if i go down that far!)
but yeah i want up to date messages and other thing the main thing is my apps/ data i have a note app with so much info on it, a diary app and others with data stored on my z5, apparently this new transfer doesnt cover it.
Ive tried doing it via google drive and every time i try to backup to google drive it comes up with a pop up screen
backup and restore would like to have offline access - allow/ deny and keeps repeating... keeps popping up again and again, sd card freezes half way...
ive tried various apps on google stores but all they seem to do is transfer the app and then you install on the new phone which is pointless unless you paid for it but it has no data,
can someone please point me in the right direction
thanks

[Q] Bluetooth not working after root....

Hey guys I rooted my Atrix about a month ago using gingerbreak and I finally got a new Bluetooth for it but when I try to turn on the Bluetooth on the phone it attempts to then dose nothing. I have tried restarting the phone and it didn't work. I don't know what else I can do besides factory restoring it, and if I can avoid that I would like to. Any ideas besides that?
Thanks,
Adam
No one has any ideas?
I have the same issue on two different phones. A soft reboot usually gets it working again, until I toggle it off. Then it won't turn on til next reboot.
I have the same exact problem.... tried a lot of things, but none succedd

I tried battery pulling it and that didn't work either sadly.
Okay, Maybe this info helps. I believe its has something to do with a specific program being moved to the SD Card or sd card mounting.
I just had this happen. Bluetooth would not turn on at all. I decided to play Chuzzle and when my battery went low, I plugged the phone into my comp USB port. It disconnected the SD card in lieu of mass storage. Killed my game because it resides on SD Card. At this point, I decided to test bluetooth and it worked!! Don't have time to test it further but. I suspect something residing on the SD card maybe the culprit. Unfortunately, I have over 30 things on it so segmenting out is going to be a pain.
Do you all have programs on the SD card?
Yeah, i moved 111 apps using apps 2 sd... cant tell which one is related to bluetooth...

I was having the same trouble and noticed that plugging in USB in storage mode would "fix" my bluetooth... I used Optimize Toolbox too clear all my cache and remove old SMS messages (after a backup) and bluetooth seems to be working again
*Edit* this didn't seem to last after I moved a few apps back to the SD card... I'm giong to keep messing with this...
after much pissing around with moving apps back and forth the internal SD card no longer mounts when i plug into my PC... interesting... I'll continue to report any progress I make
I've removed the physical SD Card and determined the problem lay in the internal SD Card...
ok after some seemingly "random" application moves from SD to phone I have this "working". I think it's a possibly corrupt internal SD but I haven't gotten any of the warnings that I see other people get where the phone explicitly says as much, however here is why I still suspect it:
as I was using Optimize Tool Box to move apps I noticed it was moving them rather slowly and taking a few extra seconds to re-load the app list, after one move (a Dolphin HD plugin full screen froyo incase that matters) I noticed the refresh seems snappier,
I went out to my home screen and hit a bluetooth widget and BT started working, I tried moving a couple different apps back and it stopped working.
Here is a full list of apps I moved OFF my SD in the event that it is still app related and a list of my apps might be handy to see who has common apps
Remote VNC Pro
My Tracks
Knots Guide
ConnectBot
Retro Defense
Best Apps
FBReader
Fullscreen for Froyo
Net Ping
AndFTP
Amazon Kindle
BlastMonkeys
KeePassDroid
Terminal Emulator
AndroZip
DailyComix
Dungeon Defenders
SilverEdit
Linux Commands
Handcent Emoji Plugin
Movie Free
My Backup Root
OSMonitor
Handcent SMS Skin(Metal)
SMS Backup+
Thinking Space
I hope this can help someone fix their phone or better yet get us a litter further towards an actual solution.
These are on my list. They should not be moved to SD:
Firefox
Brain Cube
Rugby
Anyway, the problem seems to be solved on 4.5.91. I've been moving apps all day and yet my bluetooth is still working.

[Q] Mass Storage Menu

Im getting fed up of zune syncing every single photo ive ever taken on my phone every time I want to get a couple of photos across.
I use my phone for work and take photos when visiting customers, I would like to copy them to my laptop and then delete them from my device. But I dont really want all my personal photos on this laptop. However when i plug the phone in it starts syncing absolutely everything. This is despiet selecting 'items i choose' under Picture syncing options. I will then delete pictures from the phone to then find that it resyncs them again anyway.
Now, when i plugged my phone in before it used to flash up on screen with a couple of options, one being mass storage device. I never tried it but i wanted to press this to see if i can just copy across (and then delete from my phone memory) the pictures i need rather than syncing. But i cannot get it to appear when i plug in the cable anymore.
Does anyone have any ideas about where it is?

[Q] Google+ Auto Backup suddenly started duplicating all my photos/videos.

My phone went crazy today with battery drain... losing about 20% an hour while I was doing nothing with it. I finally figured out it was Google+ uploading my media to the cloud. It went through 2 gigabytes of uploaded data before I turned off Auto Backup.
The one thing I did this morning that I think might have caused this is I installed QuickPic and started using it instead of the included gallery from Samsung. Though I'm not sure why that would make G+ think every single pic/vid in every folder on my phone and the external sd card was new and start uploading them again... and even if it did, doesn't Google do some kind of CRC check to make sure the file hasn't already been uploaded because if they don't it's going to suck when I move to a new phone but copy over all my old media and G+ decides to upload a 3rd copy of all my pictures.
My questions: 1) How do I stop G+ from backing up things that have already been backed up. 2) How do I clean my G+ Photos in the cloud to get rid of all the duplicates. There are thousands of pictures uploaded so I really don't want to do it manually.

Click to collapse
Well, I guess to stop the G+ from backing up things stop the the backing up function by heading over to the settings>account manger>Google account and under the Google account shut the sync photos option off. This will stop the auto backup function and in order to clean the G+ photos I am afraid but you need to clean this mess manually i.e one by one ! So, this time take the help of the PC/Laptop then manually and remove then one by one at a time. Lastly "Wish you all the best in taking out with the cleaning process" :cyclops:
Thanks. I had stopped G+ from backing up for the time being but I want to turn it back on once I figure out the duplicate issue so I can continue to us it in the future. I guess I'm wondering how Google Plus decides if a pictures has already been uploaded or not?
It's going to suck manually deleting all the duplicates already on plus.google.com/photos. I have over 7,000 pictures in there and the best I can tell from my G+ app on the phone, it recently uploaded about 3,000. My google fu isn't very good though because I can find no way to sort them by date uploaded or anything. It'll be a nightmare scrolling through all of my photos looking for the duplicates.

Virus On My Samsung S5 Has Practically Completely Erased My SD Card. Now What?

Hi everyone!
So the inevitable has happened- a viruses infected my phone that my boyfriend soley uses. I knew viruses existed on Android but I didn't know to what extent.
The phone is a Samsung S5. It is NOT rooted.
My boyfriend was watching 'adult' videos and he has his phone set so you can hold your finger over the screen and not actually touch it to select things (IMO i think that feature is stupid! ). Anyway, While watching a video his finger hovered over one of the banner/block videos that are along the side of the actual video you are watching for too long he guessing and inadvertently selected something. He doesn't recall actually seeing anything download though.
Unfortunately because he likes to download some programs that require you to select in your settings to allow downloads from untrusted sources, he just always leaves that option selected. (Not smart).
He took screen shots of what happened next. I've included the screenshots he took in this post.
At this point his phone was frozen on the screens that popped up. He tried turning it off and on again but once back on the screens were still there and were stopping stopping him from doing anything on his phone. He didn't know what was going on and called me at work. Immediately I knew he had infected his phone, a similar type of virus was huge a few years for computers.
I didn't really know what to do so I suggested doing a factory reset. I figured he must have inadvertently downloaded something, and factory reset would get rid of everything.
When I came home from work he told me he did the factory reset like I said and the pop up screens that were preventing use of the phone were gone but he still thought he had a virus because his contacts were all messed up, they were very old and none of his newer contacts exsited (Im not sure where he got the backed up contacts that he did manage to get back...although they are mostly useless.). As well there are a lot of things missing, over 2000 pictures on the SD card have disappeared along with movies, documents, music etc... Almost 32gb of stuff!
I plugged the SD card into my computer thinking maybe his phone just wasn't reading it properly because the phone did show the SD card and you could view what was on it, but almost everything was missing.
All of the photos/videos were backed to his Google photos and they are all gone! The only thing there now is what is left still on his SD card. Checked Google photos trash and it says nothing was deleted.
His SD card is 32gb and use to be almost full, but now it has 27gb free!!!! Where did almost 27gb of data go!!?? And the approx 5gb of data left is just random stuff that I highly doubt would use up even close to 5gb...
(I just learned while typing this, that he was able to get most of his pictures back from Facebook, so nothing was removed from Facebooks backup)
I researched this for hours and I'm pretty sure this is a type of malicious Ransomeware Virus.
I think the virus is gone due to factory reset... Could I be wrong?
As for the missing stuff, my guess is either the missing data has actually been removed by the virus OR its still on the SD card but encrypted by the virus. (Which means it'd also be compacted?)
If it's still there but encrypted how can I find the encrypted files and unencrypted them.
Thanks for reading! Hopefully one of you will have an answer.
Cheers, Rebecca
This looks like the standard ransomware. I would look to see if there is one out there for android. I'm not sure there is a true version. What I mean by this is it locks out your bootloader. Can't be done on stock Samsung. So I think it is gone.
Now when you say he did a factory reset are you sure he didn't wipe the card by mistake?
The contacts sync with Google and what most likely happened is that have been saving to phone memory and not to the Gmail account. Which he most likely signed into after the factory reset.
As for the back up there should not have had anything that could remove them from Google pics.

Considering upgrading from a rooted Galaxy S5 to LG G5. But first, some questions...

Hi gang!
So, after a couple of years of happily(ish) using my S5, it's started to lag badly (even after wiping) and have started looking for a replacement.
It seems that this really is the only viable option for me, given that I really prefer having spare batteries especially when I'm traveling, and I really can't be bothered with having have to plug my phone in, even if it's to a portable back-up battery. It's also been nice to be able to just buy my own battery whenever the battery starts getting old and doesn't hold a charge as well as it did when new. :highfive:
Anyway, given that this phone doesn't have root yet, there are a few things I wanted to find out before I bite the bullet:
Folder locations: I've been using FolderMount to change the default save locations for some apps to SD card instead of internal storage. These apps do not allow you to change directories within the app, which is why I've been doing this. This has saved my ass whenever the phone itself became non-functional. Is there a way to do this without root on the G5? Or, at the very least, is there a way to manually copy these files from the device (i.e., browse ALL files on the device) to the SD card?
Folder locations (bonus round!): in particular, the data I care about is WhatsApp and Line backups. If any of you guys have specific experience being able to save these files to SD, I'd greatly appreciate any input!
Transfering messages, call log: I've been backing up and restoring SMS and Call Log using TiBu for years. While I also use SMS BackUp+ to also have an automatic fail safe, these apps don't handle group texts very well at all, ergo my reliance on TiBu. I noticed AT&T has an app called AT&T Mobile Transfer -- will this be able to transfer all of my texts/call log? Even if it's in the thousands of texts?
S Health data: Samsung has an S Health application that automatically backs up steps/heart rate data. Is there any way to transfer this data to an LG equivalent?
Those are all that I can think of right now, but any advice would be really appreciated, thanks! :good:
