Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting.
I am a complete novice to this, and I'm looking for help. It this question has already been answered, then can you please point me in the right direction, cause I've had a look, and I can't see this issue anywhere.
I've had my HD2 since January, and it's been fine, till now. I tried to install an apparently "fixed" Swype specifically for the Telstra version of the HD2 found at , cause I really wanted to install it, but it never worked, however that's not my issue.
There must have been a virus or something on it, becuase all it did was successfully put my phone back in the stone age. I've lost all of my email sync, the contacts, settings, photos, and the biggest issue which I would like help with, my phone can't find the SD card any more...
Has anyone heard of this problem before? And if so, how can I get it to work?
It's not like the problems in the thread "SD card NOT reading" in the HD2 General page, it's that the phone does not recognise the SD slot any more... It's just vanished. I'm trying to search for it by going to file explorer, then tapping on the top left corner where it used to say "My Devide" and gave me the option of "external storage" or something like that...
If you need more information about ROM versions etc., please let me know how to get to it, and I'll let you know.
1. sign up for microsoft myphone
it will backup daily all contacts, sms, pictures, documents, etc.
It is free
http://sn1-p2.myphone.microsoft.com/mkweb/Start.po?mkt=en-US
2. At this point, you are just going to have to start over. If you don't hard reset often (I usually do twice a week flashing), then you might want to look into a backup program. Backup once a week then you won't lose everything if this happens again:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/
http://spb.com/products/backup/
Both of these are good programs.
Cheers for that. I'll definately be doing that from now on, however it doesn't really help me with getting the SD card recognised again...
Looks like Your phone is connected to your computer as disk-drive (or "locked" in that position)
Look in your system settings (windows key, options, more) Connetcion > USB to PC.
Which option id selected? (Activesync, Disk Drive or Internet sharing)
I came home from a long army ex and broke my screen before I could sync it. Is there a way to turn on USB mass storage without the screen so I can sync my phone?
I will lose a loooonnng weeks worth of data that I really really need if I cant sync before my new streak arrives.
running 2.2 unrooted on rogers
Thanks!
The only way I can think of of is in recovery mode by using the buttons. Do you have streakmod or clockwork mod?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
USB storage mode only gives you access to the external SD Card - which you can take out and use a card reader/adapter to copy to your computer. The external card isn't effected by rom installs anyway.
What exactly do you mean by "sync you phone"?
I want to connect it to the syncing program from nero that I got with the OTA to 2.2. In order to sync it to my computer I need to turn mass storage on, but I cant do that because the screen is broken. I want to sync it so all of my data on the phone can be backed up and put on to my replacement phone that will arrive today or tomorrow. I did not have streakmod or clockwork mod.

Basically, if all your data is stored on the sd card, then just put the sd card in your new phone and sync?
If the screen on your phone is broken, then there is no way to change settings to sync it, my guess is you data will sync ok on the new phone, because its stored on the external sd card, thats the one that can be removed, of coarse i could be wrong, but i think the previous poster is correct.
I don't know if the nero sync program will sync anything on the internal sd card as I have never used it.
If you had sync turned on with Google for contacts (and other google features, such as calendar) they will reload when you put in the same gmail address setting up the phone. You paid apps will be listed in the market. You will probably lose your text messages. Your emails (other than gmail) may or may not be on the server depending on how you have that currently set up on the phone, but you can access your non-gmail email accounts using a computer to make sure that anything important is there.
If you use social networking those contacts and info will sync back to your phone when you set it up.
It is much faster if you can do your initial phone setup where you have access to WiFi.
If his touchscreen still functions at all he'd be better off making a nandroid, it only requires a single screen tap to install streakmod, beyond that it's all the hard buttons

I realize this is a huge bump, but I had the same problem just now, and maybe my solution could help someone else with the same problem! Basically, go to google images and search for: turn on usb storage [insert model of your phone]. It will give you two images like the one's I attached (One screenshot of the notifications screen and one of the screen with the button to turn USB storage on). This will give you a spatial reference of where to tap your finger. So in procedure:
Keep in mind, these steps are performed in the dark
1. Press the power putton
2. Swipe away your lockscreen
3. Press the home button once in case a true full screen app is open
4. Swipe down from the top of the screen to view notifications
5. Systematically, starting from the bottom to top, swipe to the right repeatedly while moving upwards
NOTE: if #5 is confusing, the point is you're swiping away all extraneous notifications that may be there other than the persisent: "Connected as a media device", which can't be swiped away anyway. Once you are confident that is the case, continue on.
6. Now, use your google images screenshot of the notifications screen as a visual reference to click on where 'Connected as a media device' would be.
7. Do the same with the other screenshot to click where the 'Turn on USB Storage' button would be.
8. Problem solved! Now time for a new phone!
Honestly, it only took a total of 2 minutes to conceive and accomplish this, just use your imagination! Frankly it took way longer to write this post! Hope it helps somebody, and MOD, if you want to move this somewhere else, be my guest!

About a month ago I was transferring files to/from my Amaze 4G, and then I disconnected it from my computer (without clicking "Eject" in Windows or disabling USB storage in Android) and after that, every time I would open an album, a few photos would disappear. A dozen here, 20 there, until my >1000 photos (carried over from previous phones) were GONE.
I removed the memory card and put it in my computer, and used an un-delete program to retrieve them intact and unharmed. I guess the file table got corrupted or something. I did a factory reset on my phone, reformatted the SD card, put all my files back, and went on my merry way.
Just a few minutes ago, I was copying all of my photos from the phone. I made sure the click "eject hardware" in Windows, and then selected "Charge Only" on the phone, disconnected it, and then, just to make sure it re-mounted properly in Android, I un-mounted and re-mounted the card via the settings page. When I open up the Album app (Which was presumably running in the background during this whole operation), several hundred photos are missing.
I plugged the phone back in, deleted the photo directories, and reloaded them from the backup on my laptop, making sure that the Albums app was closed. I then re-opened the Album app after properly disconnecting the phone, and about 600 photos were still missing. I closed the app and reopened it, and only a couple hundred were missing. I went back to the album list and then re-opened the camera album, and fewer photos were missing. Wash, rinse, and repeat, until all of the photos had reappeared.
This whole ordeal has left me concerned about the safety of my files. Ever since the first one I have often opened and re-opened the photo album to see if the number of photos decreases each time I open it, and I've had no issues other than the ones mentioned.
Any ideas on a cause/prevention for this issue?

Maybe the album software wasn't given enough time to create all the thumb pics it uses for browsing for the 1000+ pictures you just added? It would take even longer if you had vids in there too.

That would explain the second incident, but in the first one, the photos were actually deleted; when I used an undelete program they showed up as "_mage_210" and the like.

It has happened now with two different cards, one of which I'd been using for about a year with no problems, the other straight out of the package.

Do you have a different computer or laptop to recreate the issue so you can eliminate the computer variable?

Not in a usable state. However, I've had no problems with drive/card corruption from my computer.
Failing the faulty computer, do you think the phone is faulty, and should be replaced?

If you can eliminate the computer as a variable then yes I'd assume the phone has a defect.
You've already said you tried two different microSD cards. One new and one old.
So that variable has been eliminated.
Only two left to go. One you can do with relative ease at a friends or even a internet cafe.
The other requires waiting for a replacement.
I would try and isolate the issue to one element first before I sent off for a new phone.
In any case if you'd rather just send off for a new one and be done with it then go for it.
Just make sure you test the new one and see if the problem persists.
Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions!
This problem seems to not happen if I make sure to kill the HTC/Android Albums app before connecting the phone to the computer, so it's usable for the time being. Once I go into the next payment cycle (I used up all my high-speed data, and I don't want to attempt a reload on 2G) I'll take it into the store and see if they'll swap it out, just to be safe.
So no-one else has had this problem?
Hello All,
I wondered if one of you experts may be able to help me with an issue I'm having with my SIII please? I'm a long time browser of the site but haven't posted much until now.
This issue is coming between me and my sleep (and I mean that literally.)
I can't seem to master the art of getting music onto my S3. I thought it would be as simple as using iSyncr as I had with my S2. Alas, no.
Because of the changes to the mass storage mode (I am running a Mac), I have to download the Android File Transfer thing to connect my phone at all to my Mac.
When I use iSyncr now, it's slightly buggy. I put the phone into MTP mode, it starts copying music across and then after a certain number of tracks, it throws up an MTP issue where it says certain songs can't be copied. I then have to go around the houses and start clearing data from the media storage app in my settings and rebooting the phone. Then, I try again and get so far and the same thing happens again with different songs.
Also, when some songs transfer the albums appear split in the phone (though this is minor annoyance compared to the above).
I have left it on overnight and come back to my computer and it all looks finished, yet of my 6700 songs, only 3400 have transferred.
I've tried going the old fashioned way and spend last night dragging and dropping files onto the memory card using the Android File Transfer mode. I got one message saying a song couldn't be copied, yet when I actually got up and checked, again, only 3400 odd songs had transfered. There were no error messages and we're not talking DRM songs that hadn't gone across.. but some that I had ripped myself. It's all very odd.
Don't mention DoubleTwist - that's even worse.
This is really driving me mad as I am a big music player and I don't want to fork out for and have to carry an iPod too. I just sold my iPhone to use the S3 as I assumed it would be simple like the S2 but this is making me so upset with the phone. It's as though Google have deliberately locked out Mac functionality.
It's an unlocked unit, with a sandisk 64GB card inside. That was formatted by the phone and when I tried using a card reader instead, the computer said it couldn't be recognised.
I'm throwing myself at your knowledgeable feet here and hoping that somebody knows exactly what is happening here and what it is I could do to fix it. My entire weekend has been wasted sitting in front of this computer and I really want to fix it.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
Can't help with your immediate issue I'm afraid (waiting for my S3 and I don't have a mac... ) but have you contracted the devs of iSyncr to let them know of the issue - at least that way they can start working on an update.
Sent from my CM9 TouchPad
I sure have!
Thanks for contacting me and pointing me to this thread.
First off, I've pre-ordered the international S3 so that I can test this out. We just do not have them in Texas yet.
Secondly, I've been unimpressed with Android's MTP's robustness on other devices. I filed several bug reports for different scenarios that corrupt the MTP database in March of 2011. Zero have been touched by Google. Given this, the first thing we should try is rebuilding the MTP database, which lives inside the "Media Storage" app. I've put these instructions in an easy to follow tutorial.
http://blog.jrtstudio.com/2011/08/how-to-refresh-android-media-database.html
Please let us know if that helps the issue.
Cheers!
Justin
Don't suppose anyvody has any solution for this? Really don't want to take my S3 back but will have to at this rate. I think it's shocking that the S3 is so crippled from a Mac's perspective since the changes to MTP. Android File Transfer app doesn't really fix anything.
I have the same problem. Even using AFT, it wil not see the phone until I put it into PTP mode. THen I can copy data to it. isyncr see the phone in MTP mode but keeps telling me device failed to load.
I'm going to mention
I know I shouldn't mention it but here you go Double twist!
Right I've had some problems and this is what actually worked.
First you have to use itunes. If your music is a mess then a app on the app store called 'dupin' will remove any duplicate songs you have (it worked well for me). if you have lots of dead file links in your library just remove all your library files and then click 'add to library' be careful that itunes does not copy the files you add to the itunes music folder - see preferences.
1. Make a 'new playlist' --> add all your songs to it (press command+a etc). If you have a large music library like me then you can make a 'smart playlist' and limit the size of the playlist, handy eh!!
2. Open doubletwist on your mac and immediately make sure in 'preferences' the 'automatic sync' option is switched off (I had an incident where my whole library syned with 2 of my external hardisks...oops...and the funny thing is that one of the hard disks was where the music stored). Make sure the 'import itunes playlists' option is also selected.
3. In the doubletwist andriod app Select the SD card as library storage and Enable the 'Airsync' function in doubletwist (you will have to pay for the app but in my opinion it's worth it - it also supports ACC files).
4. Enter the pair code into the mac application.
5. Select the option to sync your playlists only (don't try anything fancy!!). You should see the one you made in itunes here.
6. THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT: you should by now see the 'airsync' icon at the top of the screen. PULL DOWN THE NOTIFICATION CENTER AND TOUCH THE 'DOUBLETWIST IS SYNCING'. You will see a funky swirly multicoloured wheel LEAVE THE PHONE ALONE UNTILL ALL YOUR MUSIC HAS SYNCED ACCROSS.
Dont lock your phone as this seems to mess it up...
Hope this helps. I understand your pain, I lost a weekend too!
Notes: Podcasts and DRM stuff does not sync.
Notes: If your playlist is not the full size of your music library then if the 'live updating' option is turned on in your smart playlist then when you click sync in doubletwist it will sync different songs each day (I think...)
If none of the above works, you always have a nice shiny 50gb of free dropbox storage as an interim solution

If you are already an iSyncr user, as this person is, there is no reason to leave me for doubleTwist. We've got iSyncr WiFi, which we came out with before doubleTwist and is only a .99 cent upgrade. If you've got an issue with it, just email me, and we'll make sure it works on your S3.

If its possible, try installing VMware fusion, and you can run windows inside your MAC in a virtual machine, you can try this if everything else fails...
You know where to download these softwares
You can try for free...and find the serial key easily using Google.
http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/overview.html
I purchased the isycr wifi option and it is working fine... I think they have a "lite" version that you can try, but it only syncs one playlist or something, but you can see if it works or not. But that is what I am using now.

How about with the motorola defy ? Still waiting on that if you can have a look at fixing that one.
I've searched seemingly everywhere on here and on google trying to find an answer but all I can find is "oh just restart your phone that should fix it bye"
But those answers were for people that are missing ALL of their pics! My problem is, pretty much half of my pictures are gone, I first noticed it because there was a certain set that I took 7 pictures like a month and a half ago, and only 3 remain, I know they were there cause I looked at them alot last time was like last week. I went to them today and there were only 3, then I started noticing a lot of my pictures are missing, just magically disappeared. So I hooked into my computer and looked for them, same result. I tried to save the remaining pictures but my computer is being stupid and every time I try explorer.exe locks up now so I can't copy anything off the phone.
I NEED to get my pictures back I have irreplaceable memories of my son, those pictures can't just be gone, I never deleted anything they have to be somewhere, I'm in desperate need of help!
Are these on the internal or external memory ?
What phone is this ? (since this is a general section, could be any OS, even) I know for Android there are un-delete type apps, I'd guess others have these, too - may or may not help.
In the meantime, is there a "send" type option you could use to transfer the remaining pictures off the device ?
try this... http://www.r-studio.com/
Try searching your phone from explorer
Maybe try searching the SD of your phone.
1. Turn on USB storage
2. Using explorer navigate to the SD card of your phone. (should be under computer)
3. In the search bar type "*.jpg" no quotes
This will show you all the pictures on your phone
