PLEASE HELP!!! Important pictures missing (desperate!!!!) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've searched seemingly everywhere on here and on google trying to find an answer but all I can find is "oh just restart your phone that should fix it bye"
But those answers were for people that are missing ALL of their pics! My problem is, pretty much half of my pictures are gone, I first noticed it because there was a certain set that I took 7 pictures like a month and a half ago, and only 3 remain, I know they were there cause I looked at them alot last time was like last week. I went to them today and there were only 3, then I started noticing a lot of my pictures are missing, just magically disappeared. So I hooked into my computer and looked for them, same result. I tried to save the remaining pictures but my computer is being stupid and every time I try explorer.exe locks up now so I can't copy anything off the phone.
I NEED to get my pictures back I have irreplaceable memories of my son, those pictures can't just be gone, I never deleted anything they have to be somewhere, I'm in desperate need of help!

Are these on the internal or external memory ?
What phone is this ? (since this is a general section, could be any OS, even) I know for Android there are un-delete type apps, I'd guess others have these, too - may or may not help.
In the meantime, is there a "send" type option you could use to transfer the remaining pictures off the device ?

try this... http://www.r-studio.com/

Try searching your phone from explorer
Maybe try searching the SD of your phone.
1. Turn on USB storage
2. Using explorer navigate to the SD card of your phone. (should be under computer)
3. In the search bar type "*.jpg" no quotes
This will show you all the pictures on your phone

[Q] My phone just did a hard reset and I need help

Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting.
I am a complete novice to this, and I'm looking for help. It this question has already been answered, then can you please point me in the right direction, cause I've had a look, and I can't see this issue anywhere.
I've had my HD2 since January, and it's been fine, till now. I tried to install an apparently "fixed" Swype specifically for the Telstra version of the HD2 found at , cause I really wanted to install it, but it never worked, however that's not my issue.
There must have been a virus or something on it, becuase all it did was successfully put my phone back in the stone age. I've lost all of my email sync, the contacts, settings, photos, and the biggest issue which I would like help with, my phone can't find the SD card any more...
Has anyone heard of this problem before? And if so, how can I get it to work?
It's not like the problems in the thread "SD card NOT reading" in the HD2 General page, it's that the phone does not recognise the SD slot any more... It's just vanished. I'm trying to search for it by going to file explorer, then tapping on the top left corner where it used to say "My Devide" and gave me the option of "external storage" or something like that...
If you need more information about ROM versions etc., please let me know how to get to it, and I'll let you know.
1. sign up for microsoft myphone
it will backup daily all contacts, sms, pictures, documents, etc.
It is free
http://sn1-p2.myphone.microsoft.com/mkweb/Start.po?mkt=en-US
2. At this point, you are just going to have to start over. If you don't hard reset often (I usually do twice a week flashing), then you might want to look into a backup program. Backup once a week then you won't lose everything if this happens again:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/
http://spb.com/products/backup/
Both of these are good programs.
Cheers for that. I'll definately be doing that from now on, however it doesn't really help me with getting the SD card recognised again...
Looks like Your phone is connected to your computer as disk-drive (or "locked" in that position)
Look in your system settings (windows key, options, more) Connetcion > USB to PC.
Which option id selected? (Activesync, Disk Drive or Internet sharing)

[Q] Photos Deleted After Unplugging Device From Laptop?

About a month ago I was transferring files to/from my Amaze 4G, and then I disconnected it from my computer (without clicking "Eject" in Windows or disabling USB storage in Android) and after that, every time I would open an album, a few photos would disappear. A dozen here, 20 there, until my >1000 photos (carried over from previous phones) were GONE.
I removed the memory card and put it in my computer, and used an un-delete program to retrieve them intact and unharmed. I guess the file table got corrupted or something. I did a factory reset on my phone, reformatted the SD card, put all my files back, and went on my merry way.
Just a few minutes ago, I was copying all of my photos from the phone. I made sure the click "eject hardware" in Windows, and then selected "Charge Only" on the phone, disconnected it, and then, just to make sure it re-mounted properly in Android, I un-mounted and re-mounted the card via the settings page. When I open up the Album app (Which was presumably running in the background during this whole operation), several hundred photos are missing.
I plugged the phone back in, deleted the photo directories, and reloaded them from the backup on my laptop, making sure that the Albums app was closed. I then re-opened the Album app after properly disconnecting the phone, and about 600 photos were still missing. I closed the app and reopened it, and only a couple hundred were missing. I went back to the album list and then re-opened the camera album, and fewer photos were missing. Wash, rinse, and repeat, until all of the photos had reappeared.
This whole ordeal has left me concerned about the safety of my files. Ever since the first one I have often opened and re-opened the photo album to see if the number of photos decreases each time I open it, and I've had no issues other than the ones mentioned.
Any ideas on a cause/prevention for this issue?

Maybe the album software wasn't given enough time to create all the thumb pics it uses for browsing for the 1000+ pictures you just added? It would take even longer if you had vids in there too.

That would explain the second incident, but in the first one, the photos were actually deleted; when I used an undelete program they showed up as "_mage_210" and the like.

It has happened now with two different cards, one of which I'd been using for about a year with no problems, the other straight out of the package.

Do you have a different computer or laptop to recreate the issue so you can eliminate the computer variable?

Not in a usable state. However, I've had no problems with drive/card corruption from my computer.
Failing the faulty computer, do you think the phone is faulty, and should be replaced?

If you can eliminate the computer as a variable then yes I'd assume the phone has a defect.
You've already said you tried two different microSD cards. One new and one old.
So that variable has been eliminated.
Only two left to go. One you can do with relative ease at a friends or even a internet cafe.
The other requires waiting for a replacement.
I would try and isolate the issue to one element first before I sent off for a new phone.
In any case if you'd rather just send off for a new one and be done with it then go for it.
Just make sure you test the new one and see if the problem persists.
Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions!
This problem seems to not happen if I make sure to kill the HTC/Android Albums app before connecting the phone to the computer, so it's usable for the time being. Once I go into the next payment cycle (I used up all my high-speed data, and I don't want to attempt a reload on 2G) I'll take it into the store and see if they'll swap it out, just to be safe.
So no-one else has had this problem?

[Q] Mass Storage Menu

Im getting fed up of zune syncing every single photo ive ever taken on my phone every time I want to get a couple of photos across.
I use my phone for work and take photos when visiting customers, I would like to copy them to my laptop and then delete them from my device. But I dont really want all my personal photos on this laptop. However when i plug the phone in it starts syncing absolutely everything. This is despiet selecting 'items i choose' under Picture syncing options. I will then delete pictures from the phone to then find that it resyncs them again anyway.
Now, when i plugged my phone in before it used to flash up on screen with a couple of options, one being mass storage device. I never tried it but i wanted to press this to see if i can just copy across (and then delete from my phone memory) the pictures i need rather than syncing. But i cannot get it to appear when i plug in the cable anymore.
Does anyone have any ideas about where it is?

[Q] Phone is deleting media files unwanted and automatically

Gooday guys,
I've got serious troubles at the moment. 2 days ago I wanted to show a picture to a friend of mine. Opened my gallery > ehm, what is going on here? > there were no photos images anymore.
First I thought that the gallery app got some problemes, rebooted my phone, still the same. Looked up the folders with Solid Explorer, well ... all files got definitely deleted.
I searched for this here on xda and google. Well, all I found out was that it could be ROM related, or that it could have something to do with RomManager (haven't installed it though). The curious thing is that the *.jpg and *.mp4 files got deleted from all folders and subfolders, not only from DCIM and even from the sd card.
I'm not here for any recovery attempts, have done this already
Well this is not all. I've got some *.avi files on my phone (internal and external storage). Theses files were deleted too. BUT not at the same day as the other media files (*.jpg and *.mp4).
So this is the pre story. Now I wanted to know what can I do to discover what is causing this problem, because what's next? Is my phone deleting all my files in a few days?
For me it seems like a script that is searching the whole device for media files and deleting them. (malicious?)
My thoughts were:
to smali all applications and try to find out if a app is causing this
to analyze logcats
Well, These options seems to be very long-lasting, so I ask you if somebody have any ideas on this?
Information about my phone
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9300)
ROM: ParanoidAndroid v3.68
Kernel: Googy-Max v1.5.9
I haven't isntalled any apps or updates the last two weeks so I think there are no problems with apps and therefore will not list them.
tldr;
phone is deleting media files
two days ago it deleted *jpg and *.mp4 files from internal and external storage and from all folders (not only DCIM)
today it deleted *.avi files from internal and external storage
could it be a malicious script that is crawling my phone for those files?
how can I find out what is causing this problem?
I hope that somebody could help me *pray pray*
thanks a lot in advance!
Wish you guys a nice weekend
John
Sounds like a nasty software bug
Oooooooooooooo NOT fun! I have seen this before (first time on the S3 though). Sounds like a nasty software bug. Sometimes you can fix this and sometimes you cannot.
What you NEED to do is backup ALL of your phones information. I recommend that you back it ALL up to a computer, even your memory cards information as well.
Then wipe that device clean with a Factory data reset. This will set the phone back to its default settings and will be like a brand new phone.
You might also want to consider formatting your SD card at the same time. Just in case whatever is causing this issue is coming from your Memory Card.
Afterwards I recommend that you try using your phone without any 3rd party applications for a couple days, just to make sure it’s not a bad app causing trouble.
If the phone is still acting up and erasing things then you should file a warranty claim as soon as possible.
Good luck John.

[Q] Out of space

Hi everyone! So, I've been having a bit of an issue with my Galaxy S3 lately (and by lately, I mean it's been bothering me for the past few months, but until today I've been able to use my phone )
My phone is giving me an out of space message, and no matter what I do, I can't seem to fix it. When it first started coming up, it was a bit annoying, but today, my phone seems to have run out of so much space, it can't receive messages, take screenshots (even though it should be stored onto my SD card), or even use the Facebook app without it erroring.
I can't upload a screenshot to here (since my phone won't even let me take the screenshot ), but when I go to the storage settings, my phone says I don't have enough internal memory. It says I have 11.25GB total, and I'm using 1.85GB for applications, 5.27MB for pictures and videos, 34.30MB for audio, 14.14MB for downloads and 236MB for misc files. Somehow that means my 11.25GB space is all used up, so I might have to go back to school for maths, because something doesn't add up . It also says I have 4.30GB free space on my SD card, but that's not causing the problem (I hope)
I've searched for other problems like this, and all of them are for rooted phones, which doesn't help me because my S3 isn't rooted. Also, all of the problems I saw were when people tried installing an app and got the "out of space" error on Google Play store, and they had to delete the app's .odex file, which unfortunately doesn't help me
I appreciate any help anyone has ! Really hoping to be able to use my phone again
