Call blocking App - LG V20 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi,
Looking for suggestions for the best call blocking app.
TIA

I've been using Truecaller for a while, it's pretty good at identifying calls. If you pay the full price, it can automatically block them. The free one blocks some and identifies others as spam that you just swipe to hang up on.

I personally like Should I Answer. It's powered by user reports on what numbers are legit, or spam. ...and it's free.

Can you block an area code (956)

I am getting killed with spam calls today from a 956 area code, all Mexican.
I add them to my reject list, I am them to an Unwanted contact as well... but they keep coming as different numbers.
Anyone else have some suggestions? I do not have any crap apps... not sure what's causing this.
Call T-Mo, they should be able to block the calls for you
T-Mobile does not block individual numbers. Your options to avoid any calls are family allowances, which you will need to block the individual numbers for, or changing your number.
So far I've added 8 numbers to my reject list. Jesus.
anyone know of an app that will prevent your phone from ringing, IF there is a call from a certain area code?
If not, someone willing to make it? You would make bank.
Lol that's crazy, good luck.

As some predicted, T-Mobile could not do anything, but they did give me more minutes (not needed, but nice gesture).
I think I am going to try and make my first app.... anyone know if it's even possible to have the phone just block an area code before I spend so much time trying to make an app (my first one, o Jesus).
I just checked the market for "Call Block", and there seem to be several apps for it already. At least one (for $2) includes the ability to filter the calls based on area code (example shows block toll free numbers as 800-NNN-NNNN). So yes, it appears to be possible.

GBlocker will do it. It's a pay app & I don't remember what it cost originally, but I love it.
I use it to block all numbers not in my contact list (if they're important, they'll leave a message & I'll add them to my contact list)
EDIT: I just looked on Appbrain & they apparently have a trial version. I dunno if anythings removed, but might be worth your time to give it a look

[Q] Best way to block spam calls/texts?

For months I've been getting calls from Heather from "Account Services" about lowering my credit card rate and blah blah blah. I'm on the do not call list and repeatedly ask to be removed from their call list. They hang up on me when I do that or even show a sign of no interest.
I have a call/text filter app that can blacklist numbers, but they use a different number each time (I have at least 5 blacklisted already just from them). I DID find another call filter app (wish I remembered its name) that checks the numbers against their own database of telemarketers/spam so you don't have to already have had the number blacklisted. Problem is... CDMA can't handle calls and internet at the same time. So that app didn't work for me. Is there anything similar that might have an offline database I could just update from time to time? I'm sick of this scam calling me.
And I've already reported them and next move will be to actually record a call but not sure what i'm going to do with that yet. I'm just so annoyed that i'm going to try fighting back.
There is an app called Number Guru. But like you said, it works after the fact.
If you're on that list, you can Sue them in small claims court. It's per offense per call, so you can make some money off of them.
Thanks. I did research the call(ers) and I guess it's a scam going around and has been for years. I found stuff back as far as 2008. They're under investigation but the problem is they keep moving from call center to call center and use different but similar company names. But I'll give it a shot I suppose.

App suggestions

Hey guys, i am an android app developer looking for a new project. I know users often have apps that they wish someone would make that we overlook. Do you guys have any suggestions for apps that you would like to see in the google play store in the coming months?

I would also be really interested in an ipod manager. It's the only thing I can't do with my tablet that really bothers me.
It would be kinda cool to have a video player with a notepad type thing underneath
I used to set up a netflix window and a word window like that on my pc so you can either take notes or watch tv while working
ipod manager would be hard to build right off
starting it as an mp3 player manager or really a storage utility that focuses on exteral devices with cloud plugins (ftp, dropbox, skydrive, drive, etc)
Note taking app
How about a note taking app, that is versatile in the sense that it allows to edit written text, and allows you draw graphs and type equations with a stylus? Something like NOTABILITY for the ipad
Answering machine app
If this already exist please advise.
The app would:
If the phone is not answered after a set number of rings;
answer the call;
play a message (Please leave a message);
use the voice recorder to record the call;
and save internal or to sd card.
Just like common answering machines do now.
Why bother with voicemail.
If you have unlimited minutes if doesn't matter.
If you have prepaid like I do, you pay when you call to get your voicemail anyway.
Calls are stored on your phone.
More secure, better privacy.
I just hope this is not a stupid idea.

I think there aren't api functions for that
Root would be required
Though you should be able to make something that calls, downloads and deletes your voicemail
It would dial out (apps do that) with pauses and whatnot record calls (apps also do that)
Though that's really the easiest way
Unless you just use Google voice (or setup your own voicemail server) and download them that way
Honestly gv is the easiest way to go and at best you're hacking something specific to your firmware

One day I will make this app. Unfortunately i currently lack the experience to do so. A note taking app was the idea that got me interested in developing Android apps.

Better, more private email app. Way better

Just found a new app based on the open source K9 app. Great for privacy. Check out feature list on play store. It's really quick, light, designed well both interface wise and code wise. Try it out. It's called...

Anyone try it yet? Thoughts?
It includes message preview in notification bar plus archive and quick reply button. Super quick love it. Also if you've ever re added an old gmail account and have 6,000 unread emails, gmail app won't let you mark them all read. This app does everything, and its less cluttered than K9

I'm happy with the gmail app myself but people are lazy lol i suggest Hyperlinking to the playstore link in the OP like this

He forgot to add for encryption you need PGP Keyring. Here's some shots. Effin app dominates gmail or anything else.

Interesting
Interesting; I'll check it out. It seems, at first glance, to be a reasonable implementation of PGP/GPG, a pretty secure email encryption system. I cannot imagine why PGP/GPG isn't more widely used--perhaps it's because of the perceived difficulty setting it up.
I do wish the developer was a little more upfront about the cost of the required keyring, though. I don't mind supporting software I use, and I buy the "contribute"/"Pro" versions whenever they're available. I really don't like the free-to-play, sneak-in-through-the-back-door marketing model, though.
True but squeeky mail has nothing to do with PGP keyring which is probably why he doesn't mention it. Although he still probably should have. The app works great for me, like dude says it dominates gmail. You can even set up alternate identities and some other cool stuff. Interface is really well designed too with a dark and a light theme. Both really modern and clean.

I switched over to this, a couple days ago and its way easier to use with multiple accounts .....I have two gmail and an exchange and have no issues at all. And I don't have to worry about the gmail app battery hog with its limited use.
You fight, for the guy fighting next to you.

Its great for customizing the display of your mail from one or multiple accounts as well.

Yeah, I tried that and I kept getting a persistent message at the bottom saying that it cannot use it fully and that I need to reinstall it. So I reinstalled and got the same message. I then uninstalled and then reinstalled and got the same message. Looks to me like it's not working. Love how the dev releases a mail client whose whole purpose is to allow for encrypted emails and then forces you to buy his keyring....nice....NOT!

I'm currently trying to set it up. I cannot find any sort of walkthrough and the app isn't very intuitive regarding setting up the encryption. I've downloaded the Squeaky app as well as PVP Keyring. Could you give me some pointers to get it rolling?
It just looks so basic and plain. With all the changes to Android, I can't believe how ugly these email apps still are.

How to block SMS/MMS - Need recomendations.

I've been trying to find a simple way to block SMS/MMS to my phone. I've been using Signal for a while now as do many of my friends and would just assume block all the unsecure stuff since Signal comes though data. Thought it would be easier than it's turning out to be. Tried a couple apps and they require building spam lists to get them to work, any way to just block them all?
if you don't mind just blacklist the number perhaps

That will also stop calls which I don't want to do. I only want to stop non Signal SMS/MMS
There's got to be an easier way but what I've come up with for now is I'm using Postman SMS blocker to block all SMS while it's set as my default messenger. I'm using Auto Reply free to auto respond to those blocked texts to tell them they've been blocked and to download Signal. Most of my friends are already on Signal and the ones that don't give half a crap about their privacy, that's their problem. They can call or email. In this situation theres still technically txts making it to the phone but their one sided statements that are never replied to and no conversation from me. Will all the notifications of the block and reply off it's good enough for now.

You are sadly mistaken if you think signal is more secure then the standard SMS protocol. That's like samsung what's app or fb messenger are secure. It's only as secure as their server is.

Can you explain how? Signal is end to end encrypted and the keys aren't stored on the server. WhatsApp is made by WhatsApp and has nothing to do with Samsung, they also use the Signal/Text Secure protocol so same thing different name. No shortage of security experts regularly examine the source and I've yet to read a review from anybody in security that isn't a huge fan. I fail to see how regular ol SMS that does none of that and is just as secure. If you know something nobody else seems to please let us know, I can't be the only one that's into privacy that would want to know.

Samsung was an auto correct. As for Wahtsapp that is owned by FB and made by them and have been found over and over again to have back doors built in just like their messaging app.
Ill leave you wit this. We have some of the best in android security here on the site. Yet none of them use it and advise to stay away from everything to do with FB. Ever wonder why on XDA we have not featured the app. IF it really was that secure then we would be all over it covering it and advising its use.
True Mobile security is an illusion. IF you use a rooted device or use social media then privacy isnt really a big deal.
