TPU Case & Screen Protector from Ebay - ASUS ROG Phone II Accessories

I bought a TPU Case and Tempered Glass screen protector off eBay (both came from the same seller) for my ROG Phone 2 (Tencent 8GB/128GB model), so I thought I'd share my thoughts on them.
Case ($10.89): Ultra Thin Soft Silicone Case For ASUS Rog Phone 2 ZS660KL Shockproof Back Cover
Screen Protector ($14.89): Nillkin CP+Pro Tempered Glass Full Screen Protector For ASUS ROG Phone 2 ZS660KL
I love both items!
The case is probably one of the best TPU cases available for the ROG Phone 2 at the moment. All ports are accessible, everything lines up properly, Air Triggers still work great, it has a nice 0.3mm raised lip around the screen to help protect it. Overall, nothing really bad to say about the case, other than maybe the "Soft Silicone" part of the name is a bit misleading as its not like super soft rubber or anything like that. Its flexible before inserting the phone, but I wouldn't really call it soft silicone. Still though, its a great case and I feel the phone is protected from small accidental drops now (definitely more-so than the stock clear hard plastic case that comes with it)!
The Tempered Glass screen protector is also great. The fingerprint sensor still works just fine, Its easy to apply, it can be lifted and re-positioned if you don't get it on perfect the first time. I was worried about the black borders around this particular screen protector when I first bought it, but everything lines up perfectly and doesn't appear to be covering or blocking anything when positioned correctly on the screen!
Edit: ok so even when installed perfectly, the black borders on the sides of the screen protector do block a tiny bit of the screen when viewed straight on... But it is tiny, like maybe 5 or 10 pixels on each side of the screen. You really gotta be looking for it to notice it though.
Edit2: so it also seems there is a very slight decrease in touch screen sensitivity with the tempered glass screen protector installed. After using it for awhile I noticed very occasionally it wouldn't register my input and I'd have to tap again. HOWEVER, this phone is so awesome, it has a built in way to solve this issue. Just go into the settings, then Advanced, scroll to the bottom and enable Glove Mode! It's meant to increases the touch screen sensitivity while wearing gloves, obviously, but works well to fix this minor issue as well.

Good tip on using glove mode when you use a tempered glass screen protector. Thanks!

Zerolemon Glass Screen Protector Review

Zerolemon 9H Ultra Glass Armor: Tempered Glass Screen Protector
Unboxing:
I received a review unit from Zerolemon. The screen protector was sent in a bubble wrapped package. The packaging on the screen protector itself is thin poster board with plastic cut outs for the various pieces. It came with the screen protector itself, a small micro-fiber cloth and an alcohol wipe.
Installation:
Zerolemon has installation instructions printed on the poster board packaging. I didn’t need them, but for though who do, the instructions don’t make sense at all. Luckily the pictures convey much more than the written instructions do.
I applied the screen protector in my bath-room after I had the hot water running in the shower for about 10 minutes to minimize any dust particles that were in the air. I tried using the micro-fiber cloth to clean the screen of any residual oil and particles. It did a good job getting rid of oily residue, but is horrible at picking up dust, which might be due to the cloth being tiny (2”x2”). Then I used the alcohol wipe to wipe down the screen one more time. That did the trick. It removed the rest of the particles.
After taking a plastic film off the screen protector I placed it on my phone. The great thing about it is that you can move it slightly to get it to fit perfectly then tap the middle of the screen and the screen protector will adhere to the screen like magic! I didn’t have any issues with bubbles.
Initial Impressions:
The screen protector is much thicker than a plastic one. It somewhat hides the home button because the screen protector is thicker than the protruding button. Not really an issue with me because I actually prefer that so I don’t accidentally press the home button when the phone is in my pocket, but it might bother others. Powering on my device and testing the responsiveness of the screen, the first thing I noticed how nice it felt to touch. Feels just like the glass on the phone. With the rounded edges I wasn't able to feel where the screen protector started and ended from edge to edge of the phone.
The screen’s responsiveness was noticeably diminished. All gestures and taps had to be deliberate for the phone to register the touch. I use the S-Pen quite often to create illustrations on the device. For regular navigation using the S-Pen it operated like normal, but I noticed that I had to push harder while doodling on the screen or using the hand writing recognition. Due to the diminished responsiveness I did have to go into “Settings>Controls>Auto-adjust touch sensitivity” and enable that option so that the screen would return to normal.
Viewing angles are comparable to naked screen.
I will update again in about 2 weeks after I’ve had more time to put it through the torture test of life.
Any info on how thick it is, it looks exactly like the same as the MIME Feather Glass. I use the s-pen with the MIME and I didn't have to turn up the sensitivity but it's only .15mm thick.

It's 0.3mm according to their website.
I hope to be receiving mine soon and will comment on the touch screen responsiveness as well. I currently use a 0.4mm thick glass screen protector (it started to bubble randomly, so I needed a new one anyways), and haven't noticed any reduction in responsiveness, so hopefully my experience will be able to provide a different experience than the OP (especially as I'm going from glass to glass, while it appears as though OP went from plastic to glass, which in my opinion is an incomparable difference).
I just received my review unit as well. It's very thin and barely noticeable. I'm using it with my ZeroLemon Extended Battery and it fits perfectly under the case. I haven't had screen responsiveness issues as mentioned in the OP.
I'll post pics up a little later.

The screen protector wasn't built in on my case.
If yours has one built in, then you should probably remove it.

I got my review unit today and its pretty good. Mouahmong's review is almost spot on. If you know how to apply a screen protector you are good to go. However, if you have never done it before, watch a Youtube video because the instructions shown on the inside of the package are terribly written.
My advice on applying (especially if your house/apartment or wherever you live is dusty) do it after a hot shower. Doing so will let the dust settle.
The screen protector does have somewhat rounded edges so it's not sharp unlike some other cheaper tempered glass screen protectors. However, with a 0.3mm thickness, you won't even be able tell.
I didnt have much of an issue with the home button after applying the screen protector. Some other brands will provide a stick on item to put on top of the home button so its easier to press, but with this screen protector being pretty thin (0.3mm) you wont need it IMO.
Other than that, so far so good. If I find any cons, I'll update this review.

Here are some pics with the Tempered Glass Screen Protector paired with the ZeroLemon Extended Battery/Rugged Case. This thing is very thin. The previous glass screen protector I had installed was too thick and caused the top corners to lift up. No problem here. Fits like a glove.
Installed the zerolemon screen protector a few days ago and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT with my 10,000 mah battery and rugged case! I never liked screen protectors because I thought they took away the OEM glass feel and clarity. I now admit my past reservations were completely wrong and I will never have my phone screens go naked again! The zerolemon glass screen protector fits like a glove with the 10,000 mah battery and rugged case and I would strongly recommend the protector to everyone who owns the rugged case to give this a shot. Last thing, the cost of this is better than most of the other name brand protectors out there.

Haven't tried it in sunlight but it should glare just as much as the regular glass.
This isn't a anti glare screen protector.
So far it does well in direct sunlight. Minimal glare. Similar to stock naked.

It is the same as the OEM glass screen, no better and no worse. I think the glass protector feels smoother than the OEM screen. Maybe it's because the oleophobic coating was starting to wear off but I swear the new screen protector feels buttery smooth when I swipe my finger or use the s pen.

So your saying to install it after a hot shower as in install the unit on your phone in the bathroom? Ive heard of the method before but didn't quite understand.

People recommend installing in the bathroom because steam from the hot water will prevent dust particles from floating in the air.

I love it so far. The packaging is nothing fancy but the product is top notch. I previously had the Nillkin tempered glass and this one is identical to it which is a good thing. All the cutouts are perfect. It feels just like the naked screen. The price is very much reasonable unlike those other brands selling them for $20+ and the quality is the same.

I just received my review unit and will update this thread with my review in a few days. I did notice though after installing the screen protector there is a "bubble" in the top portion of the screen right overtop the notification panel and directly under the Samsung logo. I thought maybe I installed it wrong or slightly sideways so I very gently pulled it back up making sure I didn't touch the sticky backing and realigned the glass with the home button and pressed it back down firmly. The "bubble" is still present but a tad smaller then it was originally. I kept rubbing the screen hoping to eliminate the bubble like other brand plastic type screen protectors and no dice. I will give it a few days and hopefully it will work itself out. I hope I didn't somehow get a "defective" glass that wasn't completely flat which is causing this bubble. See attached pic showing the "bubble" and the packaging stating it has "Bubble Free Installation". [emoji53]

Anyone using Protectors and Skins by GadgetShieldz

Hi Guys,
Since there is no good tempered glass or screen protector available for the S7(not edge), Spigen has one but that's way too expensive and I wasn't able to find an authentic one in the market. Has anyone tried protectors and skins by GadgetShieldz? Here's the link-
http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-screen-protectors-covers-cases.html
The plus is that if the product is as good as they are describing then it covers the sides too. The con is that there is no actual proof or hands on video regarding the same+it is still expensive atleast for me but there's no other alternative.
Thanks
I just ordered the matte and the ultra clear screen protectors. I didn't buy the body because I have a Rhinoshield bumper and back protector. I'll post a review once they arrive.
Good product the body shield is
Have been using the Gadgetshielz full body protector for 6 months now. It is quite good and the cuts are precise. Quite a lot of work, applying them is. Be patient after applying, in a week or so, the bubbles and wobbles will sort themselves out. Was hard to believe when I completed installation and saw what a mess it was.
That doesn't look like tempered glass. I will NEVER go back to the flimsy protectors. Too many issues with bubbles, etc. But, I have yet to find a tempered glass that full covers the edges. It's more of an issue when things are right at the edges (such as text) that makes it difficult to read, but I'll take that as it's rare knowing that I have a tempered glass protector on that does a better job of absorbing the shock of a drop.
Using their screen protector, with my rhinoshield bumper case and no bubble. Wanted glass first but all those that I bought, the case lifted them or they had the big halo, lifting all around cause the curve screen.

They are working way far better than the TGP.

Thanks mate. I bought two and will report when it arrives
So, here's why review-
Finally ordered them. It was my first time that I was installing any sort of protector and I was super nervous. The protector kept coming off. I had to wet it with the solutions many times. I drove out the bubbles as many as I could but the end result was way too foggy and messy. But after 48 hours everything was gone, except few dust and fingerprints particles which are my fault BTW there's a huge particle of dust on the back button. Can I lift it up just a tad to remove it? I still have the solution, I am planning to wet it to reapply. Will it work?
Also can anyone suggest a good cover for S7? My current one is a chinese one, but I think it will remove the side protectors if I take the phone out few times because with the side protectors the sides bulge out a bit. @r3xx3r @ere1nion
Any way to get the same cover in India?

I searched for a month, ordered like 10 different tempered glasses from various websites but they all sucked. GS's protector is not a glass but it is the best alternative to a glass.
An out of context question, what are these four stripes/white lines located on the top and bottom side of the phone for? Just along the charger and speaker in the photos below-

Those plastic lines are antenna separators. The frame of the phone is used for different antennas, so they must be separated.

An update, I used my phone with the Samsung Gear VR yesterday and when I removed it the protector from the upper side of the phone, where the front camera is got removed I tried to paste the same but it is full of bubbles now . Is anyone else using GS's protector with VR?

Correct it is not. I use the Otterbox Commuter and Otterbox Defender so this is not an issue for me particularly. I had a partial screen protector on already so no shift in change for me there either. I just received mine in the mail today. The back application was by far harder than the front. I didn't get it perfect. It's the material used on the back. I will not be testing this screen protector but I feel confident with it on. Hopefully it will never need to prove itself.
So, my protector is screwed thanks to Gear VR, it kept on removing the upper part of the protector every time I put the phone in the Gear VR or took it out. Has anyone tried the so called buff guard(a type of tempered glass) which covers the whole screen even the edges? Is there any alternative for the GadgetShieldz protector?
My wife just upgraded to an S7 (tried the Moto Z and it was too big, bulky and heavy for her). She wanted a tempered glass screen protector, but not like the one I have (which doesn't cover the entire screen due to the curved edges of the S7).
After much research, I found the amFilm glass protector was one that was listed in many top-10 lists as being excellent. This covers the entire glass but gives room on the edges for cases. My wife has a Speck Candyshell case for her phone and the screen protector works fine with it. My only issue with it is that on the top and bottom (which is fully protected), it's colored. So you have to choose the correct color based on your phone (black or gold). I don't understand why it has to be colored. Why not make it all clear so you can see the actual color of the phone? But it DOES cover the entire screen unlike the earlier brands that came out. And it was very easy to apply and there are no bubbles at all. Touch response is excellent from what I could tell. I tested it and couldn't find any "soft" or "blind" spots that didn't react and I just lightly touched, so it was pretty good. I'll wait and see how it goes with my wife after she's had it for awhile. It also comes with a lifetime warranty for the purchased product. That means, and they state this in the documentation that comes with the protector, that the warranty does NOT apply to a warranty replacement item. So that means, if you've swapped out your initial purchase with a warranty item, you'll have to purchase a brand new screen protector to get a lifetime warranty again. That is pretty standard across most things like this, so I have no complaints.
Here is the gold colored one that I ordered and installed since she has a gold S7:

Thanks for such a detailed review. There are many protector glasses of that sort available in India, all of them are manufactured in china, but not the brand which you have mentioned. The reviews of the chinese one's is pathetic. So, I didn't go for them. Can you please check and confirm whether the phone fits fine in Gear Vr with the protector that you have installed or not?
This one, though its for the Edge model, looks tempting but I will wait for an early bird's review before ordering the one for the non-Edge version which should be available by tomorrow-

Good Screen Protectors?

It is simply amazing how trashy most of the oneplus 5 screen protectors are. Just ordered idlehands tempered screen protector (goo.gl/i9x6xS) and it didn't fit as it claimed to (even the preview pictures show this!). The blacklines on the protector are spaced enough and go cover up part of the display! Most others are apparently trashy and low rated.... Anyone have luck? Having removed my factory screen protector, my screen is now vulnerable!

The lines fully enter the onto display, which immediately makes my display area a few (about 4-5 from my own judgement) millimeters smaller. This is unacceptable imo.

You should see the first glass protector I got, it wasn't even close with how much screen was lost.
But from what I've heard, even the official OnePlus glass protector covers the screen on the edges, doesn't it?

it's the same with any 2.5D screen. every single SP is gonna have a flaw of some kind.
Any non glass/film that you recommend?

The lines fully enter the onto display, which immediately makes my display area a few (about 4-5 from my own judgement) millimeters smaller. This is unacceptable imo.

Assuming your referring to the Orzly tgsp, I'm surprised with your comment that it covers part of display screen. In the review video from the post in this XDA section, the review shows the Orzly installed and the bootloader screen displayed. The bootloader's left side text gives zero room for a screen protector to overlap and the video, to my mind, shows zero overlap of the text. Are you positive you applied it as well as the reviewer?
I've order the Orzly and am waiting for it to arrive so hopefully I'll get the same results as the reviewer and a couple of the installers who had zero rainbow effect. If it doesn't work out I'll be going back to a film screen protector as I've used on my devices for many, many years. The Orzly is my first tempered glass protector.
I'd like to echo the calls above: any good experiences with any plastic SPs?
I was happy with the preapplied SP, but I was putting some stuff (nice beermats I was nicking from a pub!) in my pocket and I managed to lift it on the bottom right, and it got covered in pocket crud straightaway. So I replaced it with the official OP TGSP, which I'm sort of 80% happy with. I have two (v small) bits on the right edge where it won't stick to the screen, and the borders covering the display bother me, particularly when I can't see the scrollbar to show me where I am in a page. Fond memories of my Nexus 5 and its perfectly flat display, I only ever needed one TGSP and it fit like a dream!
So what I'm looking for is ideally a) a TGSP with no border, as close to edge-to-edge coverage as possible without unstuck bits at the edges, and full screen adhesive so no rainbow effect. Failing that, option b) a plastic SP with coverage as good as the original preapplied one. Any tips? Preferably ones available from Amazon UK.
Many thanks in advance.
For me plastic SP are way better in looks.
Also never took the original one from OP devices.
But what's the plastic SP offers to OP5?

Not completely sure about the Orzly, but the screen protector I got is very similiar. Do tell me if the black edges (lines) go onto the display or not. I have provided a link to the amazon store for it (do note I cannot post links due to this account being new)

Yeah, I got it direct from OP as part of a bundle when I got my 5. I already knew it covered part of the display though, it says so clearly on the product page on their website. The one advantage it has over third party ones is that it's fully adhesive, so no rainbow/dot effects.

Here is a link to the Orzly tgsp on YouTube. Starting at the 4:27 mark he boots into the Bootlader screen and checks for screen protector display overlap.
I'll surely post my impressions once I get the Orzly tgsp myself but the video would probably give you all the info you need. Also here's the Orzly's amazon link and the XDA thread for this product. There is differing opinions but on the whole it seems like the only reasonable tempered glass option for the OP5.
I'm willing to try Nillkin's one ... I saw there is already a review of it in this forum, but I think i'm still gonna try it as it has no black border ( hate that ).
But still, from all reviews so far, Orzly SP looks like the best SP currently
I've always had great results with Skinomi, both their TechGlass and TechSkin. They currently don't offer the TechGlass for the OnePlus 5, but I just finished applying their MatteSkin protector and it installed perfectly . If they ever do release the TechGlass for the 5, I'll be picking one up.
Edit: I emailed Skinomi Customer Support about a TG protector and received this reply.
"Hello,
Thank you for your interest in our products.

The Nilkon one sucks.
I received it yesterday, 1 side does not stick whatever you try, glass does not cover the entire screen so you get an horrible rainbow effect since the screen protector edge ends still on the display..

seems to be the only one that is good so far... even with its flaws (oil/rainbow stain, fingertips on the glass, ...)
Just on balance: Phone manufacturers (lots of them) have gone with this 2.5D curvature and obviously it's a tough thing to make the perfect fitting cover out of glass, so none of them are going to be perfect. What's the obsession anyway? It's just a protective cover. I've had the Orzley for a few weeks and it works great. Since mostly people with bad experiences are posting in forums (go on and check out any thread and see how many threads are saying "this works fine!"), you can't tell much from this thread except to only stack up bad experiences. It sure doesn't attract dust or prints.
Here's my experience: I applied it using the "steamed up bathroom to settle dust" technique, it took maybe 45 seconds to apply, went on perfectly. It is designed not to overlap any case, and only to "meet" the visible part of the screen. Yes it's close, but not as bad as the OP one. I've never heard a tap from the glass protector. I've never seen a color or rainbow on it, nor any dust underneath. The edges are sticky after 2 weeks. If you think about it, no adhesive that is removable is ever going to be able to hold down a piece of cut tempered glass in a way that doesn't create at least a bubble somewhere, not that it's a big deal. I don't think I've thought about the screen protector once until I read this thread after I applied it.
For some of us, the Orzly works fine. I'm going to take a wild swing and guess that I'm not the only person that this SP works for. I've used it with two cases and it works perfectly with both of them. One is a bumper like case from OP https://oneplus.net/oneplus-5-silicone-protective-case, and the other was one I got for nothing with the OP (A folio case?) . I'm fairly sure the Orzly will work with any case because it doesn't extend over the edges.
If you are one to believe every bad review will be your experience then just stay with the factory applied plastic. It works fine but you'll likely have to clean it pretty often since the fingerprint attraction is high. Other than that, it's fine. It might not help you if you drop it as well.
Iqshield. Good coverage, smooth feeling. I like their products

A screen protector that will match my spigen case - S8

Hi
I have this case :
https://www.spigen.com/products/galaxy-s8-case-crystal-shell
I tried both Samsung original plastic screen protector:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQKnJsETNYQ
And the olixar case friendly glass screen protector.
Both suck. Either the touch is bad either the case lifts it up.
Can anyone recommend me a screen protector that will get a long with my case? or any combination of screen protector and a case that will work together?
No glue / wet apply please. Only conventional stuff
Thanks
From what I have seen the gpel case friendly screen protectors seem to be about the best option.
They come in clear or black edges I hear the clear shows dirt build up around the edges
Do you mean this one
https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Friendly-Tempered-Satisfaction-Guarantee/dp/B06XWMZG5N
Cause it's rating is pretty poor
Whitestone dome?

Not at all... Touchscreen works perfectly. And works with lots of cases https://youtu.be/sScL3ZyGTgI
It only takes some time to install it correctly, you can't rush it and expect great results.
But you better check some install videos, and the topics here on xda. Since this is glued to the screen, not just a strip on the edges, this feels as good as the naked screen and no dust can get beneath
I prefer something without glue/ liquids..
Whats the best dry apply option on the market?
It's wet apply, but I've had no issues with this one besides it taking a little extra time to adhere to the curved edges. it's been perfect on my case (not the same one) and looks good as well. Lifetime warranty too. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072B8MLF3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

ASUS ROG 2 TPU Case

Just received my case included is a screen protector and some goodies you can check the pictures. All for the price of 14 RMB. I bought it from JD.com in China. It took 11 days until I received my order because they were waiting for orders to start manufacturing the case since it's still a new phone.

Regarding a back skin I am not aware of any sold in China probably outside of it maybe yeah. The only cases that were available for the 1st generation ROG were only these type of TPU cases. I hope it's not the same case for the ROG 2. So far the only cases you can find for the ROG 2 are the TPU and book cover types.

Yes there is a cut out for air triggers and side USB. I can use the air triggers but not comfortably, if you use them too much I would suggest using the plastic case included with phone instead. You can check the cut outs from the pictures attached.

Hi,
Stumbled on this Android Central article for Asus ROG phone 2 cases - Link
The first one mentioned as the staff pick looks promising.
Found the similar one on AliExpress - Link
Has anyone bought this TPU case, If yes can you give feedback or share images

I've also ordered the nillkin CP+Pro tempered glass.
Have been using their tempered glasses for years. They are the best.
Can you also share images from bottom and top of the cover with phone?? And how much thickness does this cover add to the phone?
Also does it create issues in heat dissipation?
Thanks

Including the 0.3mm raised lip around the phones screen, this case adds a total of 2.5mm of thickness and 3mm of width to the phone.
Measuring with my digital calipers, the phone without a case is 9.5mm thick and 78mm wide (not including the slight camera bump or the phones buttons). With the case on it measured 12mm thick and 81mm wide.
Heat dissipation is still excellent. I haven't noticed any change at all in temperatures.
I've looked everywhere but its nowhere to be found, can anyone guides me as to where I can get a good tpu case?
International vendors ship to india but delivery dates are no less than 30 days after I order.
Hi,
No TPU case present in India as of yet.
I have bought the one described in this thread - link
The units sold is very less in comparison to other brands like oneplus that is why you don't see recognised brands like spigen, otterbox or ringke creating a case for this phone.
Your best bet is to place an order on Aliexpress or Amazon.com.
Though sellers will be shipping cases from china only.
Please share if you find out some other good case?
Also look at these cases available as of now - Link

Thanks for the reply, I guess you indulge in DIY projects (measuring the dimensions using digital calipers :laugh
Do you play games on this phone? Do you observe noticeable increase in temp with the cover placed?

Lol yup lots of DIY and 3D Printing stuff.
I play lots of games on it via emulators, and some native gaming with PUBG and the new COD Mobile. No noticable temp increases.
