X2 CUBE TV Box Amlogic S905x2 Android 9 - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

Here we come with a pretty interesting TV Box based on relatively new Amlogic S905x2 SoC. '
There are a lot of reviews about this SoC already so we not going to stop on this part.
This device also has 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM, which is kind of a standard for middle range devices.
As far as I get, these devices come to market in different variations and not only different amount of ROM and RAM but different type of RAM.
According to resellers devices come with LDDR3 and LDDR4 chipsets, so here is the list:
X2 Cube comes with LDDR4 2GB memory and 16 GB NAND
X2 Play comes with LDDR3 4 GB memory and 32 GB NAND
X2 Pro comes with LDDR4 4 GB memory and 32 GB NAND
For a review, I got the X2 cube model with 2/16 GB pack on board.
Small series of unpacking photos:

}
Form factor of the device is not as standard as I felt at first site. It is neither TV BOX size nor dongle; it is something in the middle.
Device dimensions 110*62*22mm. X2 Cube looks like a bigger version of dongle size device but with a standard combination of interfaces.
Device has standard for dongles size interfaces: USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, HDMI 2.0, AV port and TF card port.
As a normal TV Box X2 Cube has SPDIF optical interface, IR port for remote control detector, and LAN 1 GBit interface port.
Device gets its power from micro USB port (5V 2.5A)
Performing a first start, I saw a standard Amlogic icon and brand start screen with logo.
Start screen after loading shows “Launcher 3” standard launcher with several apps including Google Chrome, Play Market, File manager and Settings.
Bottom side of packing box told us it is Android 9 based system and we see this as soon as we run settings.
After establishing Wi-Fi or wired connection device need to spend some time to update google apps and then you can start, login and install your apps.
Checking the settings, I found special settings tab called X2 settings. Tab looks similar to Ugoos Settings in Ugoos AM6 I have checked and reviewed before.
Looking through the ugoos.com I found out this device was created with the help of Ugoos Company:
they have placed information about X2 Cube in a “projects” section.
X2 Settings sections contains following abilities:
- One click Root feature to provide additional rights for selected apks
- File server or file client server: to share info from storage to internal network
- Playback settings: provides additional settings to make sure different video format playback correctly
- Hardware monitor provides main information about TV Box in upper bar
- Wireless assistant gives ability to use smartphone to control this device
- Gamepad settings can help to customize controls for better game experience
- Debug settings is a tool for developers
- User scripts gives ability to activate prepared scenarios also useful for tests
- System bars function control activities for both upper and down bar
- Input device settings offers several profiles for different remote controllers to use
Updater application also looks like Ugoos updater, which provides OTA services and manual update if you have downloaded OTA Package file.
At first site TV Box have all promising abilities of good TV Box.
If you would like more details about this device let me know I will share more details

That's a really good review, thanks
Is there any possibility you could test the max temperature it reaches under high cpu load?
With the apps cpu load generator and Cpufloat (for checking the temperature in real-time)
Thanks in advance

The box has a good cpu temperature even under high load.

Has anyone checked if topaz has tv out?
I've been going through the registry today, found an interesting "FacebookDisable" key, and also some interesting stuff for TV Out...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507995
And now, I've just found this...
HKLM > Drivers > BuiltIn > TVOUT
I could be wrong, but this tells me that
a) The D2 can support TV Out in some way shape size or form.
b) If it doesn't work straight out of the box, some reg tweaks and maybe a cab port from the Rhodium should sort it.
I found this on pocketnow.com

Going by the footnote at the bottom of the page saying that the HD/Diamond don't work as they have no TV out functionality built in, just like the diamond 2. I'd guess that it then.
I'm not quite sure there is no sort of TV-Out.
I mean, i use My Mobiler to control my TD2 with my pc, so there is a way to export image from the TD2.
But maybe it is another technique...
any news?...

So as I see It doesn't work right?
Well Yes Because basically Topaz needs a TV out small hardware,And this handy doesn't have one. I dont know why but they were not going to have one in Pro 2 as well but it seems they've changed their minds.
Now there are TV out cable available for Pro 2 even in HTC official website. But when there is nothing for Topaz it already shows we have to forget it.
I don't know if we could make or buy some TV out external hardware ourselves?we easily can connect it to the phone if there is any ?

pls"update" if it does
From http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/page/nueTVOut.aspx
Description Screen21
nueTVOut allows you to force TV output to be on, and allows use of the TV Out control panel even if you do not have an original HTC Video out cable.
To use the TV Out, you’ll need the audio dongle (rectangular block) that came with the phone, as well as a camcorder/iPod video cable. Plug the camcorder/iPod video cable into the dongle, and plug the dongle into your phone. Open the control panel, enable the video output and select the correct standard (NTSC for United States/Canada), and press ok. If there is no video output, try switching the outputs until you get a signal (for me, the video was on the red right audio RCA, instead of the yellow video RCA). If you don’t get any video, most likely you have a cable for an mp3 player that has the ground connected to the wrong pin. Camcorder/iPod video cables work best.
Have you tryed switching the outputs?
Is there anybody who could export HKLM registers from HTC TOUCH PRO for comparing with the HTC Touch Diamond 2?
its work in htc diamond 1 ?
please tall me.
doesnt work with Diamond 2
I have the original cable which I purchased for the TouchPro. It doesnt work with the Topaz:-( I managed to get only audio.
I queried HTC about the TV Out issue and got this reply:
"Thanks for contacting HTC.
With regards of your query, while its essentially the same hardware in the Diamond2 and Pro, and TV out is a function of the Qualcomm chipset, not all of the pins connecting to the chipset may be connected through to the extUSB port in the same way.
Please kindly wait for the WM 6.5 (which will release within 3 weeks) to see if the TV out cable is there."
I am a bit pessimistic. Anyhow, let's wait and see.

Application uses a jpeg-mode of a camera (to reduce the traffic).
The communication with the camera is accomplished by the use of CGI-commands.
The definite commands are set in the camera working profile. Included profiles allow
the communication with TRENDnet, AXIS, Edimax, Ipux, Panasonic, D-Link
and Linksys cameras.
The ability of setting user's profiles, let the application be set for any* IP-cameras,
supporting CGI-commands.
To set the connection to the camera up one should:
1. Fill in the parameters of your camera, choosing the ready
profile or setting a new one ("Menu/Settings" menu point).
2. Check them up ("check" button).
3. Add the new camera to sources list ("add" button).
4. Save the settings ("OK" menu point).
5. Tap on the menu point "Start" in the main window.
The basic operation can be chosen from the context menu (tap-and-hold).
A tap on the image renew it despoticly.
Double tapping on the picture switches the full-screen mode.
The folder for the saved snapshorts is set in the settings menu.
The sliding movement a finger on a screen can be use for operating a
camera's PTZ-control.
To display the program messages correctly in the localized versios of
the Windows Mobile, the resource files System_SR_ENU_wm.cab (for Compact
Framework 2.0) or NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm.cab (for Compact Framework 3.5)
should be installed.

* Not all manufacturers publish information about the CGI-commands, which are used to communicate
with their IP-cameras. Probably for this reason, RC Camera could not be adapted to work with the
following cameras: SPARKLAN CAS-670W, Linksys WVC54G

Great App - How to use dyndns?
Thanks for creating the app, I can get it to work with an IP address, but I want to use my dyndns hostname and it wont work with that. I am not sure if is a format issue or if you only support IP addresses. Can you tell me how to use a dyndns address like "smith.dyndns.org"?

Thanx for your interest. and a bug reporting!
As it is just a BETA1, it is not completely tested yet(access by name too).
Please, give me a week to make some corrections.
Dyndns
Thanks for your efforts. I look forward to seeing the update. I have been using it to setup my camera and once connected it seems to be pretty robust.
I downloaded your update and the IP name works great. It did crash when I tried to delete the demo cameras from the list, but came right back when restarted. I deleted them before entering mine and it worked fine. The response time seems to be a little better than the first version. I tried 10 sec, 5 sec, and 1 sec updates. This is a slick application. Congrats on the effort. I hope you have time to continue tinkering.
In testing the beta3, when I go to full screen in landscape it appears there is no way to go back to the application on the screen. I see you have plans for a snapshot function. Again, thanks for you excellent work.

For PDA witch have a touch screen is possible to use: a click on screen - update image, double click - switch full screen mode. I plan to add a hard key supports for swithing full screen. May be it would be better to use a central key of the joystick? What do you think?
I was not patient enough with tapping on the screen to allow it to change modes. (a function of the phone, not the software). Now that I know it works well. Hard buttons may not be a good idea as they are getting rarer on the newer phones. I think that tapping the screen is fine.
Final version is released.
Special thanx jfenton for active assistans.

Really nice review.
I got some questions :
1) Is it possible to switch the capacitive buttons? What I mean is reversing the Back and Multitasking Buttons
2) Do you got issue with sync Google stuff (Agenda, Contacts, etc....)
3) Does the camera as good as 2015 Flagship? (Galaxy S6, LG G4)
I will try to get one 128G tomorrow :fingercrossed:

2) Yeah I couldn't sync my Google contacts, but I synced them then with my Xiaomi account instead and that works.
3) The camera IS pretty good and fast, I would say on the level with a S6. But people may have different opinions about it.

Are you sure? There is such option in Redmi Note 3.
Edit
From Arstechnica: "The buttons aren't labeled because you can swap the "back" and "recent" functionality in the software, a compromise between Samsung's "Recent, home, back" order and Google's "back, home, recent" order."

I have just checked it again. You can configure the buttons. But in the settings you can not set a "back" function for the left touch button.
From stock it is the recent button, and the settings for that one only allows "show recent apps tray" or "show menu". No back function is possible. So you can not put back on the left side.
The right button (which is stock back) you can not change at all, only for the long press on the back, you can choose "none", "show recent apps tray", "Launch assistant" or "Close current app".

HP Pavillion X2 Troubles

Installed Remix and dual boot on my hard drive of my HP Pavilion x2 12-b020nr 12" Detachable Laptop with Intel Core M3, 4 GB RAM, 128GB SSD.
Loving the dual boot and having android on this thing. But I am having a few problems and I don't know if they are things I can update or install a driver or ?? And just know - I know Remix is new and I am not complaining but there are lots of smart folks here that know stuff - so I thought I'd ask.
1. The multi touchpad doesn't work at all. Just not recognized. I enabled some experimental feature to try and get it to go too. But still nothing.
2. During boot up at what I would call the grub screen - the touchscreen doesn't work. So I can't select what to boot into without the keyboard attached.
3. Weird graphic black circles through all the white spaces in apps or website screens depending on the size of the active screen. Really weird and hard to explain. I will try to get a screen shot or something.
4. The app LastPass doesn't work at all. I click open - it flashes like it is opening and then closes.
5. WiFi doesn't seem to autoconnect on boot up. I have to click on the icon - then it opens and recognizes my home router and connects... but it won't do it without clicking.
Really loving this project. Thanks in advance for any help!!
Here is a picture of the graphics weirdness

Okay - no hating on me - I know that the CM and Lineage ports are new and in development. They say they don't have the play store etc.
Anyway - I am working on getting my Phoneix install in grub - so feel free to post a link to EZ UEFI instructions since I seem to have messed something up...
Good Luck
Using remix os x64 on a x2 10-000np with no troubles at all except for sleep. After the preset time expires, it wont shutdown the screen and the touchscreen crashes as in stops responding to my fingers. Does anyone here knows how to fix this?

Question How I got miracast to work

Hello, if you are like me you are super frustrated when you realized this phone doesn't have Miracast and it doesn't work. You may have tried all the workarounds like editing the build prop, Magisk modules and a multitude of others. I have been trying off and on for a year. There doesn't seem to be custom roms specifically for this phone. I tried quite a few GSI with no luck. It would start to connect then soft reboot.
What finally did work was the crdroid GSI on android 11. everything seems to work well. I did a dirty flash from havoc android 10 gsi. Just flashed system_A all my apps and settings stayed and I avoided setup. Here's the link to the GSI. hope this helps someone, after having had miracast not having it seemed like a downgrade. tsk tsk to google for having given us miracast and then deprecating it in favor of chromecast.
Cheers

Interestingly.
I had no such luck on my Cubot Note7. I tried to imitate your procedure, I installed GSI HavocOS 3.11 and after restarting the Crdrom-v316 you mentioned. But Miracast didn't find my TV. Additionally, Crdrom doesn't even offer wfd permission like GSI bless-v224:

Bless-224 finds my tv, however the connection attempt ends with a soft restart.
Does your miracast work even without said permission?
And I'm also wondering if it is necessary for your phone to be connected to the home network (router), because otherwise the miracast icon remains greyed out. On older Android, miracast worked with just turning on wi-fi, without connecting to the home network (wi-fi direct).
Thank you for the info.

I had no such luck on my Cubot Note7. I tried to imitate your procedure, I installed GSI HavocOS 3.11 and after restarting the Crdrom-v316 you mentioned. But Miracast didn't find my TV. Additionally, Crdrom doesn't even offer wfd permission like GSI bless-v224:View attachment 5860775

I do have to have wifi on if I connect from the tile in the status bar.. I do not if I access the wifi display settings in more settings. I used root activity launcher to make a home screen link that invokes the menu quickly. And I'm not sure if it helps but I have wireless display certification menu in the developer settings set to on. It may help of you get root activity launcher and go down the list of all the system apps activities to nail down which system app is invoking the wifi display or cast features. For my phone I had honestly felt like the soft reboot was possibly a google or moto decision to purposely keep me from using miracast. Maybe I'm just paranoid.
It's a crying shame tho that my galaxy s4 and s6 both have miracast.. in fact the galaxy s6 can cast to my t.v while also still being connected to wifi playing videos from the internet. That as far as I'm concerned makes these new phones that lack those features a downgrade. Because it's not like we don't have the technology an s6 shouldn't be better than a 2021 android. If I can think of more to help I will let you know.. I had literally spent hours trying to figure it out.. I decompiled my settings app.. my framework.jar, I pulled the wfdisplay.so files from phones with known working cast and added them to system and even flashed the vendor partition from the motog sofia to my moto g power. Firstly try that wireless display certification in developer options
Best of luck

Thank you for your answer, but honestly, I'm a little lost in it. It is not clear from it if miracast works for you when Wi-Fi is only turned on or when Wi-Fi is connected - these are slightly different cases. Checking the wfd certification option does not affect the visibility of my TV when searching for nearby devices, but only plays an important role when connecting to the selected TV.
I'm also not clear if you have the option to enable wfd (under the three dots in the upper right corner) or if you don't need this option at all.
Sorry for the Google translation.
