Just thought I'd let people know of my experiences using a car charger with the USB magnetic charging cable. I have a 2.1 amp dual port USB car charger and also a Sony magnetic charging cable from my CP12 battery cover. I tried using the magnetic charging cable plugged into the car charger this morning and attached the magnetic charging end to my Xperia Z Ultra. The phone was on around 24% and started charging pretty quickly up until around 40% within probably 20mins. This is quite fast for this particular car charger as it seemed to take ages when I used to use it to charge my HTC One X with a normal micro USB cable. Anyway after it hit 40% I noticed it had stopped charging. I had a look at the charger and the power LED was off so I went to pull it out to check and noticed it was very hot! Not sure if it blew a fuse or went into thermal overload shutdown but I definitely think that it isn't really rated at 2.1amp.
Has anyone else had experiences using a car charger to charge their Xperia Z Ultra? I might just try the micro USB cable next time but I liked how quickly it charged with the magnetic charging cable.
I haven't tried it but I think the problem is the magnetic cable that you are using.

I'm actually very impressed that you were able to get the magnetic cable to stay. If I am able to get the cable to stick, I can't even breathe around it.

Hi Julz,
I hope your device is ok. I was using a similar charger in my car. Had two USB slots. 1amp and 2.1amp.
I'm not sure what cause it, or what happened. But I've had to send my Ultra to the store where I bought it. For some reason my device did that same as you describe. It also wouldn't stop the LED from showing. Meaning that it thought it was charging all the time. (even when not plugged in)
Now amps should be fine. Its the volts that you have to worry about. I posed a thread about batteries that talks about amps volts and how to look after your device... take a look

I have been using my Magnetic charging cable ( I pulled out of my Sony DK30 )
in my car for over a month with the Griffin PowerJolt Micro & have not had a
single issue with the phone or the charger . here are the specs & a pic of the charger .
Technical Specifications
Input: 12 volts DC
Output: 5 volts DC at 2.1 amps
Output power: 10 watts link to charger .

Yeah I think the generic no name chargers probably lack quality circuitry to regulate the charging properly. I'm hoping the Xperia Z Ultra has some decent built in charging protection to prevent issues with minor spikes or fluctuations. Brand name chargers like griffin should be ok.
Similarly, been using the magnetic cable with a griffin car adapter without any problems since I got my unit.
I've set up my Z2 as a Sat Nav in my car and using a magnetic USB lead plugged into a 3A charger. I've noticed that the phone doesn't really charge with Google maps running and playing music. It slowly loses the charge. Has anyone come across this?
Have the same issue with mine. I've got a magnetic adapter that I use with my ordinary USB cable and it can't charge the battery when I use waze and Spotify. At night I use a magnetic charger cable and then it's charging fast but not with my adapter.

Mine also charges very slowly or even discharges depending on the usage through magnetic port. My guess its due to cable being ****ty
I'm wondering maybe the cable is not delivering enough current despite my charger can output 3A.

i think this might be a Problem of the magnetic Ports!
Pretty sure screen on, gps and active sat navigation type app on nearly all android phones will lead to this.
Fact is the device is using lots of power, so much that the charger can't keep up. You also will likely find the phone will struggle with heat issues while doing this.
Hi,
I bought a quick circle case to go with my f400k. The case came directly from Korea and the pins look like they match up.
I am trying to charge with this cheap charger:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/28136049...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
The charger has a blue light which switches on when I place the G3 on it but the G3 doesn't charge.
Does this sound like a fault with the case / charger or phone? I am running Sphinx 1.0 if software can make a difference.
I don't have any other QI devices or charges so can't really test.
Thanks
Are you plugging it into a USB port or a wall charger? I had one really cheap qi charger that wouldn't charge very well in a USB hub, if at all. But works ok(not great) when plugged in wall.
I have tried both. Out of interest did your cheap charger have a LED and if so did it only come on when the phone was actually charging?
No it has a light on all the time, and changes when charging.
Anyone find charging the Z3TC painfully slow? It takes me 6+ hours to get to full charge using the magnetic connector. Is it faster over USB? Is there anyway to see how much current is actually being drawn without root?
I'm charging using a USB wall wart, 5V/2A rating.
while charging, go to settings/about tablet/status and look what battery state is saying: "AC" means normal charging while "USB" says usb charging. The latter often is usualy limiting to 500mA. This would mean that your wallmart charge or your cable has the connectors wrong so that the device thinkgs it is on a normal pc-usb port.

3:50 for me to fully charge on magnetic stand.
magnetic charging
I also experience the same thing with the magnetic changer but when I use USB it does change it faster
I've noticed that as well! That it takes over 6 hours to charge up. It's very mysterious as to why though. I have the usb cord connected to a 5v/2a rated wall adapter, that takes forever to charge it with. Anyone know why or how to get it to charge faster?
So I ordered a bunch of stuff from ebay and amazon and am going to try a few things over the new few days to figure out the slow charging
1). charge using 5V/2A wall wart through a "charging" micro usb cable. This is one where the 3 data pins are not connected, only the 2 power pins. I have a rooted htc one m8 that can measure the charging current and will make sure this setup is capable of >500mA charging
2). same as above but use a micro usb to magnetic port adapter
3). charge using the official DK36 charging dock(not designed for the Z3TC as far as I know, it came with my xperia z2 phone, but the tablet fits in it and charges)
Since theres so many links in this chain(wall wart, usb cable, dock/mag port connector) I figure its worth seeing if one of them is a weak link
I wanted to buy a magnetic charging adapter. Could anyone please let us know about the performance of magnetic charger adapter? Is it charge fast or slow compared to micro USB charger cable? It would be great if you could share your experiences on using the respective brands of magnetic charging adapter so that I can choose the best one.
If you use the cable and the adaptater given with the phone...
Then for me it's the same thing with the DK48 and the live view case
