I've been noticing a good amount of heat up by the camera during moderate use. I thought this was a CM7 problem since I had been on it since day 1, but I am now on UnNamed and the problem persists. After some googling it does seem that many other people are having this problem. Not on WIFI, and not in a poor signal area either. Just wanted to see if anyone had any leads as to the cause. What is a good app for monitoring CPU usage by app?
Yes, it may get a little hot but it isn't something to worry about as far as I know. I've gamed for three hours straight and not had any problems except for a low battery life!
yeah mine gets hot near the camera during use but i dont think its a problem
I use a battery monitor.
From what I've read, it will shut off for protection. I've heard that as long as it doesn't ever get too much above 130 F, you should be OK.
Now if it constantly stays high, there may be a problem. Mine stays around 80 F most of the time and the highest I've ever seen is 99 F but i don't game much or use my camera. One thing you don't wanna do is charge it while hd gaming or charge it in a hot car. My infuse reached 146 F one time doing that.

Somehow 'Words with Friends' caused my phone to really warm up a lot. More so than I've seen with any other situation and on numerous occasions. Luckily I suck at that game and uninstalled it...
Mine is cool unless i put a thick case then itll burn up

When I first got CM7 running on this thing, I tore through the market installing the apps I'm used to. When I was finished, I noticed that it was indeed a bit warm in the area you described. It wasn't hot enough to cause discomfort, just warm enough to note.
I notice when my phone gets hot in that area when it is around 30% remaining and I charge it. I also notice that when it is charging, it really isn't charging but battery is draining. When I got home and charged it at 30%, I left it sitting there for about 30 minutes and when I checked the phone again, it was at 25%. GPS and wifi was turned off. I decided to power down the phone and remove the battery for 5 minutes. I started working fine after that. I noticed it getting hot again today when I plugged it in to charge at 40% but this time it actually was charging. I am running stock rom but rooted. Should this be a concern?
Seems as though a lot of people are having a variation of this problem. Hopefully it is addressed soon.
The CPU will always get a bit warm if it's running.
If it's getting very hot when the screen is off, you've probably got some background task wakelocking the phone.
My phone's screen gets pretty hot when I run web videos/flash videos on HSPA.
Runs a tiny bit warm when i'm running pristine 3D Tegra games on it...otherwise no.
I just want to know if this is a general issue with the phone or if I have a hardware problem.
I got a replacement geeksquad refurbished phone and noticed something. After using the phone for things like internet browsing, reading, etc. for around half an hour, the top right of the phone starts to get hot. When doing intensive things like playing games, it will get hot much quicker (around 5-10 minutes). I noticed that on ICS ROMs like Evervolv, or ROMs with high CPU usage bugs, that area seems to get warm then hot really quickly (2-3 minutes of web browsing).
The battery never overheats. It's just the top right of the phone.
I can't seem to remember very well, but I don't think my older phone before the replacement suffered from this issue. The battery would get warm on that but it never got hot or anything.
So my questions are:
-Is this a general problem with all Evo 3Ds?
-Is this a hardware problem?
-What is located in the top right of the phone that could be overheating?

Getting warm alil bit is normal due to heat of your hand and so on use wise. But hot to the touch burnin your hand due to heat then your having some weird issues.
Phone shouldn't get hot that quick. You on a stock rom? I would throw stock back on with stock kernel toy with it see if it still gets warm..

Its kind of in between warm and hot. Its not extremely hot but gets to very uncomfortable temperatures. Kind of like how the back feels when the battery is around 42°C.
I don't think its being affected by surroundings but since the problem is completely non-existent while outside in cold temperatures, that might be the case. It also gets hotter quicker while in hot environments. The reason I don't think this is the case is because its only that one spot. Also, I don't put my finger there often.

For some reason I never thought of trying a stock ROM...
If it persists with these issues, which it probably will, I guess ill need a replacement.

Just mess with a stock one if it stills happens then it's a hardware issue..
Mine gets pretty hot there when I'm using 4g and wifi tether. Hasn't damaged my phone yet and I've been using the 4g/wifi almost everyday for about 2 months now.
I've been using my i9300 S3 for a few days now and it seems to heat up on the lower back when using wifi/data extensively. It's not hot to cook an egg sort of thing, but it seems hotter than usual.
Any of you experience such issues?
Hello
I am first time android user. Even i noticed this. Please let me know if it's ok.
It feels normal to me though....but I guess extensive usage may increase heat, just like computers and other electronic devices
I noticed the heat issue a lot more when I just got the phone. It still warms up a bit but i would say it is normal.
Though it did get pretty hot on my last flight during take off that I had to turn it off. Didn't want my expensive phone to melt.

It's normal I wouldn't worry about it to much although it will get warmer if it is being charged while using the program.
I am facing a similar issue ! My question is what temperature is safe enough ? I mean I have used few battery info apps. I have got a temperature reading of around 42 - 43 degree Celsius ! Is it normal ?

Do you own a computer of any kind? Not even that, any electronic device... a TV, PC monitor, anything? Use it for a while, and then report back to me any changes in temperature....
Is quite normal as long as your palm doesn't feel uncomfortable with the heat.

S3 overheating
Krico is absolutely right. It happened this morning when I was charging thru a notebook using both devices at the same time. And the heat lingered on even though I unplugged it. So I switched it off and now it is back to normal. Tks.
The phone can get pretty hot using WIFI and 3g extensively or 3d games. This is normal, electrical components heat up after prolonged use, your computer heats up your tv heats up. As long as the phone isn't burning your hand or exceeding 60C you should be fine. My phone gets warm to the touch and noticeably heats up but doesn't get HOT, if your phone ever gets HOT, turn it off to avoid damage.
I use an app called temp cpu v2. It displays a few interesting stuff incl. battery temperature. There are probably other apps like this.
With wifi on I get around 26 degrees but it sometimes goes up to 50 (or a little more?) on 3d games using wifi.
While charging it gets a little hotter.
About a month ago i was running a bench marking program, antutu and my phone got really hot. Ever since then my battery gets really hot when ever i do anything remotely intensive, like playing any games or recording videos.
It gets pretty warm just surfing the web.
My battery life now is great if i dont do anything with my phone but make calls, but if i play a game or anything intensive the phone gets pretty hot and the battery life awful.
Now i can deplete my battery if i play a game for 45 min..
I just ran antutu 1 time and my phone turned off because of heat.
Has my battery given up the ghost?
Thanks
well for one I'd stop running benchmarks with that... there might be a bug or something that you/devs don't know about that is draining your phone.
how long have you had your phone? talk to htc about a replacement or something if it's really bad, don't mention the benchmark app though
re
Just did a factory reset. So far the battery is still hot when doing anything remotely intensive.
Might have to take it into a Verizon store in the morning.
Its 4 months old..thx
I've noticed mine gets up to like 100F while playing a game.... how hot are we talking here?

edit just hit 108 while typing this.... Now 109
The app Du battery meter is reporting the voltage as 3.8v
Is this right?
I would go and get a new phone just to be safe to be honest. The sooner you do the more of a chance you have for them to replace it
Any update?
Bump. Interested to know the outcome as my friend is having a similar issue
Is s6 edge have heating prob when we use games or do video chats???
A heating problem, no. It will get warm if you push it but it is well within anything normal. My m8 got hotter and from what I can tell the m9 will get even hotter.
s6 edge get hot
I buy new s6 edge...last night i was doing skype video chat..and its get very much over heat even difficult to touch...it...i ask from dealer he said its normal in everyphone
Thats y i ask...
Mine gets hot with YouTube and app downloads/updates. Hot enough where the camera disabled the flash because of heat.
I think is a problem with the edge, and needs to be fixed.

not have any problems with heat...
Mine barely gets warm, even when playing demanding games.
Got my Phone yesterday. During setup it got so hot that I had to take a break. Multiple breaks because i couldn't hold it any longer. I will see how it's doing today.
Battery dropped after one hour already 11% today... Maybe 30min screen on time has something to do with it
Just needed to get it out of my pocket.. GSam nearly 30°C
Dont know but it feels extreme Hot.. maybe the glas surface?
While surfing on my way home it reached 35°C and this feels really uncomfortable!
Mine also gets starts to get warm rather quickly. Usually starts on the back of the phone near the camera. So I guess that's normal? I'm just wanting to make sure it's not my phone that has a problem...
SuperG03
Bought yesterday Alhumdulillah. It was quite hot, did a factory reset (one is enough, else do twice). The max temp i'm getting on full load is 42c, idle is ~31c.
HTC phones can go very got... you can easily reach 70-90 degree
Mine can get pretty warm. At times it is cool and other times it can get warm to hot.
Mine barely gets warm, even when stressed. I firmware updated and factory reset it as soon as I took it out of the box though.
I stressed tested mine with a few antutu stress tests back to back and couldn't get it over 31C. Ambient temp around 22C
Hello all,
S6 edge user in india here, mine is a 64gb model. Any heavy/slightly heavy usage gets my phone to heat up. So much so that it becomes uncomfortable sometimes. To be double sure of the issue, i installed AnTuTu benchmark app, there i found a temp section of the device.
I did a small test. Please see.
Room Temp: 26-28C
Device temp before the game: 31C
Played the game (Duck Tales Remastered) for 10 mins.
Device temp just after the game: 35C
I dont play games on my phone due to this. Is this normal, or shall I be taking the phone to Samsung official here?

all OK..HTC phones gets hot they reach 90c ..therefore no problems if your phone can get that warm..it's a PC powerphone..you have an Octavia core processor..and likely nothing what cool down..on PC you have a fan..or..simply think about that such temperature is normal
...
Mine is weird. If i watch video ok YouTube o browser based video, my phone can get pretty hot. But when playing games, it doesn't feel hot lol
I have the same problem, when i use Chrome it gets very hot about 72C .... Did i need to send it back?

Dude stop advising people that it is acceptable to have a phone reach 90c...
Anything about 40-50 is an issue. These arm based cpu have low thermal limits and usually do not get excessively hot under normal to light heavy use
My s6 is not warm to touch but keeps shutting down to cool off. Now the phone has been off for 10hrs and will not let me charge it due to battery being too hot but again the phone isn't even warm to touch
