I've been trying to get hold of my phone's most-recent-but-one carrier firmware (2.3.3 BOKG2 version for UK T-mobile). Intratech's thread for carrier-branded firmware lists it as:
Firmware info: PDA:BOKG2|PHONE:BOKG1|CSC:TMUKF1
Unfortunately, all the upload sites this links to seem to have removed the files for this firmware. Does anyone have advice on how to download it? (Apologies for posting on Q&A forum, but I can't yet post to the forum that covers this topic)
Thanks!

if it is that important ask intratech to reupload it for you(provided that he has time & rom with him).
OR
wait for some kind users to upload it for you and post it here.

Thanks bala_gamer.
Completely agree with you. I'd ask him directly but (for good reason) he asks not to be PM'ed with such requests and, being a very recent noob, I can't yet post to his thread on the subject. My hope is that your second suggestion will work and someone might be able to help.
If you want the most recent firmware available for SGS2 on T-Mobile UK, try Checkfus. That will allow you to download the most recent firmware available for your phone/carrier/country that would normally be available via Kies.
Do a search on here for it.
Thanks for the suggestion - useful to know about checkfus for the future. Alas, it only downloads the most recent firmware and I'm after one of the older ones that used to be posted via the "multiupload" links. Many of these no longer function, seemingly having become casualties of the fallout from the Megaupload action by the US authorities: I think they have been pulled by the upload sites' administrators.
There seems to be a great effort to make affected firmware available again, but it looks like there's a large archive to re-upload. As far as I know, that was the only way to get hold of original carrier firmware that one can flash through Odin.
I've asked in Intra's thread for a DL link for this firmware. I'll post said link in this thread for you if he comes up with one.
Failing this go into a CPW service center or Sammy service center with a flash drive etc and ask the to load one on there for you.
Or use google.
Here is the file

Thanks very much to all of you - hopefully MistahBungle's post works.
cooza - thanks for your suggestion, but it's actually the BOKK1 firmware that I'm trying to roll back. There are a number of improvements over the previous version, but the camera wasn't one of them (much lower exposure levels than before), plus bluetooth peripherals seem to auto disconnect. So, back to 2.3.3 if I can until ICS arrives!
Keep an eye on the last page on Intra's thread in case he posts it when I'm not around (time diff & all).

Mistahbungle I hate to come here and do this but I'm also new to this. I want to root and use the latest firmware and I've been reading a lot. I've seen what you've done here and that is pretty cool. Anyways I have installed the latest firmware via kies for my country "Colombia" listed as "Columbia" in Intratechs thread. Not to many updates as you may see.
Firmware info: PDA:UHKH1| PHONE:UHKG4| CSC:COBKH1
I want to have this back up before i start doing crazy things to the phone jeje, just in case you know.
Can you please ask him if he can upload again?
If not, what can i do? should i go blind and update via odin any stock firmware? I was looking at XILA2...
thanks in advance
Um, no. He's said he doesn't have backups of old firmwares so that's pretty much the end of it. When you get 10 posts up, obviously you're more than welcome to head on over to his thread & ask him yourself.

Don't know if this will be off any help, but I've found the kernel only.
Kernel_I9100BOKG2.exe
Uploaded to mediafire.
If you don't need it, let me now.

Thanks Mistahbungle & woebetide
I'll download woebetide's kernel asap. I can see why Intra's surprised at my wanting to use old firmware, but it's simply that the camera and Bluetooth works better on 2.3.3 than T-mobile UK's latest version. If anyone out there has compared the latest T-Mob UK firmware to the 2.4.4 UK unbranded XXKI1/XWKI4 and has views on camera exposure performance, it'd be interesting to hear them. I'm trying to roll back because everything seems under exposed on that 2.3.5 BOKK1. It's a fairly esoteric comparison, but you never know...

Thank you very much! I'm pretty sure the government took down multiupload sometime last week or the week before. Thats why I couldn't find files anywhere!

Hi,
I'm in China and have a genuine S5830. However, typical of foreign firmware, it's all designed and geared to Chinese.
What I want:
English apps and the phone recognized as English, not Chinese, as the default install language. (I have the English language option, but most apps assume I'm Chinese. Also, there's no Android Market in China.)
I'm guessing that my IP address is sometimes to blame, but I'd like an English firmware to reduce the problem. I'm hoping a full-blown English-market firmware will install more in English.
What I've tried:
Downloaded this file: S5830XWKS3_S5830XWKS2_S5830VIRKP1_HOME.tar.md5
from http://www.samfirmware.com/ as a UK 2.3.5 single-file install
Opened ODIN Odin3 v1.85 and followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
But it sticks on 'setupconnection'.
I've searched elsewhere and tried changing USB ports and re-checked the sequence; as well as being quick with the process.
The phone is always on "Downloading" but no progress bar.
Odin reports various COM numbers - highlighted yellow - depending on the USB ports I try.
But nothing happens. I can close ODIN, or just pull the USB and the phone is unharmed - nothing has happened.
Any ideas? Is there a better flash program now?
Will an English firmware solve the all-Chinese apps on the Samsung Apps and Android Market (when I get it)?
I plan to try a windows 7 32-bit machine tomorrow. Currently on Win7 64.
Thanks in advance for any help.
David.
A letter to newbies.
You have a s5830, so please stick to the guides here on XDA specially made for it, than everything should be fine.
=> [TUTORIAL] How to upgrade, root, flash ... by hubix
As you can see: The ODIN version 4.38 is the recommended one to flash Samsung stock roms.
There you can even watch the video how to accomplish the task.
Next you should read and try to understand this:
=> A Newbie Guide for your Galaxy Ace by EmoBoiix3
Those are pinned threads in their subforums. It's always a good starting point to read up this threads first. That's the reason, why they're stickies in the first place.
If you can't understand everything after the first time going through the guides, than things will be clearer on the second or third round. Try to google the informations you need more clarifications on. Maybe you can help other new members and add some missing or more clear instructions.
If you're at the end of your research and can't find any solution on your own, than other XDA members surely will help to solve the problem you've encountered by posting a new relevant thread.

Sorry, I thought development was for developers, as in developing apps etc. for the android. I've flashed various bit of hardware over time (Still not an expert) and usually found the information in a rooting/modding forum.

Already did. Over 2 hours spent searching and your forum link in the first post was the best I found, and ODIN was mentioned in many forums. A search for ODIN on google gave me a forum that linked to the latest Odin as this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamacid/files/fb/flash/Odin3 v1.85.zip/download?use_mirror=tenet and as it was sourceforge, I assumed it was the latest.

I understand you get many new people on here who never search. Your forum is massive. I made the mistake of not looking specifically in "development" as you look like an app developer site. Developers get heavily involved in stuff I know nothing about and, as I said, I usually find firmware updates in a modding/rooting forum.
I'll look at the details here, which seems to have links to files and be exactly what I'm looking for. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
However, the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=570045&d=1302939745 to the Odin multidownloader is only 257 bytes and doesn't work.
Please bear in mind I'm in China and although my proxy can get Facebook, Youtube and most other sites to work, we cannot use multiupload/megaupload on any browser with any proxy.
Thank you for your help.
David.
Edit: So far all links searching for Odin 4.38 are on multiupload.com and I cannot access them. Frustrating!

Thanks SGA. I want to follow the instructions on the link Tossan gave (C. Flashing the newest firmware, but I can't download Odin. For some reason it is <300 bytes in size; although reporting as a .rar file, nothing can open it.
The Odin I downloaded from sourcefourge (v1.85) is 417KB and opens/runs properly.
I have the firmware; checksum verified.
Where can I find the other files, not on mega/multiupload?
David.
The Odin you want is 4.38. Searching "Odin Multi 4.38" on Google you should find it. It's 444kb in size, and often an rar file extension. You'll need cooper_v1.ops too.
I'd post a link but I'm on my phone, sorry...

If you've managed to download the rom from samfirmware.com, than you should also try to download Odin directly from there (-> Flashprograms / Flashguides).
You should report to hubix in his thread about the Odin file attachement problem, to give him a chance to correct it and other users to benefit from your discovery.

Sorry, I couldn't download from there, I looked at the file ID and searched online; finally found it on Hotfile.
I'll let hubix know regards the files. Thanks for the suggestion.
The good news is it worked! My wife is very happy to be able to read English on her phone now.
Regards,

Edit: I learned I needed "Odin Multi Downloader v4.38" for the S5830, and as I had a one package install I had to:
1) On ODIN click the OPS button and load the Cooper_v1.0.ops file on it that I downloaded.
2) Click on the One Package button then select and load the Single S5830XWKS3_S5830XWKS2_S5830VIRKP1_HOME.tar.md5 file.
3) Click start and let it do it's magic.

Just rooted mine using the steps from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218
Coming from a Dell Streak this was a whole different process but it was really easy.
Now, seems the rooting/unrooting of the European version does not makes your rom count go up (please excuse my lack of proper terminology) therefore you can return your phone to stock (ex. for a warranty claim) without Samsung knowing you have mess with the rom. Is that the same for this version and if not is that in the works? How about unrooting the phone?
Thanks.
I have yet to hear one single actual case where Samsung denied a hardware claim because of the counter. People are going root counter crazy around here. C'MON ITS XDA! This is why we are all here, right??

You have to download the file. There are links to everything you need in Da_G's root threads in the dev section. Download, extract, then browse to the file via Odin, just like you tried above.
Edit: Actually with this one you don't even need to extract it. Its already a .tar file.

I think I figured it out, for some reason I downloaded 2 Odin's and one of them I must not hav downloaded tgr tar file.
I'm currently trying to download from Sammobile but they host their ROMs with Hotfile.com, and I currently have a wait in excess of 7hrs - unless I pay for a membership.
Does anyone have I9300XXEMG4_I9300OXAEMG4_BTU.zip in their Dropbox or something that I can download a bit quicker? Or know where else I can find it?

Thanks, I'm presuming the .zip will contain the .tar when decompressed.
I did search the forums first before posting and only came up with this thread which contains links to SamMobile and hence Hotfiles:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
And this thread which just contains links to really old firmwares (I don't want to install and then have to update it, just want to do it all at once):

My current download via sammobile (and their hosting service hotfiles) is currently downloading at 25 KB/sec :-/
850 MB is going to take a looooong time, hence my posting this question.
If anyone can link me to somewhere else I can download the stated file quicker than 7hrs then I would be immensely grateful.

Samobile is ok but the hoster they use (Terafile), if you dont have a premium account, the download times are frustratingly long.
