Redmi K20 Pro / Mi 9T Pro, not really same device. - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Guides, News, & D

Hello.
Maybe am I in the wrong section, if so, I apologize.
I have been reading many posts over here and on other forums and it seems that some people can be "confused" when reading threads about their devices, that may be REDMI K20 PRO or MI 9T PRO.
If in Asia / Indonesia, the device is named REDMI K20 PRO, it is not the same device in Europe (it's named Mi 9T Pro).
Recently, I bought one Mi 9T Pro (codename seems to be Raphael?), and I saw that there were roms about K20 PRO / Mi 9T pro.
I tried to unlock the bootloader next a few days, then I wanted to flash the recovery... It was not that so easy, mainly the device turned on black screen and nothing happened...
I found a way to finally flash the recovery about TWRP and when using it, I could flash a rom from XIAOMI.EU that was mentionned "K20 PRO / MI9T PRO".
Once the rom was finally installed, next reboot let me upset.
My device then showed "REDMI" logo instead Mi on the boot, and when I was able to configure my device, (even if it appeared to be a bit slower than before), i saw that it was named in its properties : K20 PRO...
I then had to flash back another rom ( PFKEUXM ) that is referred to really be about Mi 9T Pro, and there was no problem, my device showed logo Mi next the reboot.
So, I would like to know if there is a way to get a specific section divided with K20 Pro roms and Mi 9T Pro roms, because it's not same devices, even if for main "users", it is only "difference" in its name... (I mention that my device did not function correctly when getting K20 Pro rom.)
Best Regards.
Ti'

It's same device, it runs same roms and has same hardware, a part from hardware's id, there is virtually nothing different at all. What you don't like (and are complaining about) is just "aesthetic". If you install "pixel experience" rom, it will be called "pixel" and will get pixel bootscreen... Anyway, if it bother you, you can change device name in properties and animation in bootscreen...

Also mi 9t Pro seems to have nfc which k20 pro doesn't have

They are the same phone, it's just the name that's different.
The K20 Pro is sold in China and India only. Everywhere else in the world, including the rest of Asia, the phone is called the Mi 9T Pro.
The name in the settings is irrelevant and is set by the ROM. If you know which file to edit you could change its name to Donald Duck.
There are many people on here with a K20 Pro with either EU or global Mi 9T Pro ROMs installed, without any issues. Having a different logo and name is not incorrect functionality.

It is only the Indian version that does not have NFC. The Chinese K20 Pro has NFC.

You should Google more before you post b******

Okk. My bad :/

Google thinks my K20 pro is Mi 9T
YIKES

I'm a Mi 9T Pro user and as the others said it's almost identical to K20 Pro. And there is no problem to cross flash firmware also. I tried it myself a few times without issues.
But with Chinese firmware you will get DRM L3 and the Indian firmware hasn't NFC.
There are two things I found so far:
1. Orangefox recovery version 10.0.05 doesn't work on Mi 9T Pro. Latest version works great.
2. Abhisheks TWRP isn't working too on my Mi 9T Pro.
I'm not sure why I had the issues with these recovery's it's just my personal experience.

No you are wrong and it's that kind of bs that's just added confusion to the mix...
For instance the Chinese phone does not have b20, this is a hardware level thing. Weather this is a different radio chip being used or just a chip firmware setting used is anyone's guess. But flashing with a different rom will not activate the b20 radio....
Also some one already mentioned no nfc in India version. Again this is missing hardware...
So no. They're not the same.

the hardware inside is the same.
bands have been disabled using Qualcomm's software which we dont have access to, we have access to an older version which doesnt work on these newer devices. If and when we get access to an updated version of that tool you can unlock bands on k20 pro.
Qualcomm or for that matter any radio chip manufacturer wont make chips with different bands, doesnt make sense. They make chips with all bands and then disable them via software.

That's true B20 is disabled. So the Mi 9T Pro compared to chinese K20 Pro is absolutely identical.
The K20 Pro has DRM L3 and the Mi 9T Pro L1! That's also a difference.
The indian variant has the same hardware too but NFC is missing. It has DRM L1 for those who care.

What the hell are you talking about?
You are just pushing limits to make your point. You know that even iPhone has differents enabled radios for differents regions, right? Does it make euro iPhone not the same than US iPhone? ALMOST every single device in this world has local region frequencies and this DOESN'T MAKE IT DIFFERENT DEVICES. Also, did you know power plug is not the same too? Sorry if it makes you confused, it is just the way thing is. Blame "standards"...
About nfc, you are right, we should talk: k20 pro Indian version, k20 pro Chinese version... Just like we do now. But thinking about, this makes Chinese k20 pro more similar to 9t pro than Indian k20 pro, that have same name. It's really a confused world...

Xiaomi Redmi 3 Miui 7 & 8: still any problems like bloatware, no google play etc?

I consider buying it because of it specs and low price.
With the Miui 7 or 8, as received from the Chinese online retailers, without rooting the device:
Are there still any problems to use the phone like bloatware, no google play, bugs, things in Chinese etc?
The WIfi works well?
Is it really simple to set up like any motorola phone for instance?
Many thanks
Same question here.
I'm considering a purchase as well, and it IS posted that the Play Store is not installed and you have to do this yourself, and yet the Product Notes at GearBest indicate that is installed.
Also, the unboxing video at GB does not show it to be installed, watch closely and keep the mouse on the pause button.

Confusing information at best.

Yet one of the customer reviews has a picture of the phone and the Play Store app is visible!?
So what is it, installed or do you have to do it (Or have someone do it) yourself?!
Here is the deal, officially Play Store is not installed, but, some reseller went out of their way and installed Play Store and bunch of other things before selling it. Those phone with Play Store pre-installed will not get OTA update by default, BUT they have more languages other than English and Chinese, the ones without Play Store will get software updates, but it's only in English and Chinese, AND installing Play Store by yourself is a two taps process, it's not hard to do. However it doesn't matter which one you'd get because it's the same phone and you can change the software later by yourself.
As for problem, the screen is a bit harder to use while charging and wet, other than that there's no noticeable problem.
Assuming you don't get a lemon.

And, I found the answer.

WRONG INFORMATION (2/6 is a low score) ... I have done a whole lot of reading today at XiaoMi and MIUI home site.
6 OEM ROMs are available for the XiaoMi Redmi 3, 5" and Pro 5.5" for both the Qualcomm 650/616 and MTK (16 & 32 GB versions).
2x Redmi 3 Qualcomm Global
Stable ROM, has Google Play Store, updates infrequently, only stable.
Developer ROM, has Google Play Store, updates weekly, minor bugs my be present.
2x Redmi 3 Qualcomm China
Stable ROM, has China Market app, updates infrequently, only stable.

All ROMs are flashable on the phone according to the processor type. If you receive the China version, you just have to request the OFFICIAL bootloader unlock code (register an account otherwise it will be denied) from XiaoMi, then unlock the bootloader, then flash the ROM of your choice. You can also use the UNOFFICIAL bootloader unlocking route from here as well. The bootloader unlock code takes 10 (working) days to be sent to you from XiaoMi as reported from others on the MIUI forum and here as well.
These ROMs will update to Marshmallow if made available and if you keep it stock.
All the official tools are available from MIUI (Mi PC Suite).
The Global ROM has a few extra 4G/LTE frequency available, I recommend using this ROM.
ALSO:
You can flash one of these preR00Ted ROMs;

nope, its totally different dude, there is different section at the download section for the redmi 3 and redmi note 3 seperately. just scroll down a bit and u'll see a white redmi model and there is a description under it that says "Redmi 3"
first of all you must know which phone do you want to buy
there isn't small and large ones
there is REDMI 3 (the one we are talk about) and REDMI NOTE 3 (and pro with different soc, and it's the one you post info about)
no global rom listed for redmi 3 yet ( http://en.miui.com/download-298.html )
it's simple
CHINA ROM , only chinese/english lang , NO PLAY STORE
GLOBAL ROM , multilanguage (well actually it doesn't have a lot of languages) WITH PLAY STORE and also removed some chinese apps
@PennyKnight Better read before posting wrong information. There is only redmi 3 and redmi 3 PRO on this line. And yes, there is a selection option for redmi 3 in the MIUI site as you can see below. And please do not write with caps lock, it seems offensive.
I cannot understand the difficulty people have differentiating between the Redmi 3 and the Redmi Note 3. Reading comprehension is hitting an all time low. It's the same on XDA, Reddit and xiaomi.eu.

Do you even read duudeee. I'm holding the phone in my hand at this very moment, I couldn't be more right than this :|. There are all different model, 4 different models. Redmi 3, Redmi 3 Pro, Redmi Note 3 (MediaTek), and Redmi Note 3. Redmi 3 and Redmi 3 Pro is compatible software-wise with each other, and they only has 2 version of ROM, stable and developer, both are Chinese. Redmi Note 3 (MTK) also has only 2 Chinese ROM, Stable and Developer ROM, Redmi Note 3 (Qualcomm) has 4 type of ROM, Global and Chinese, each on Stable and Developer. What determines a phone has google play is not Stable/Developer, but Chinese/Global. You can unlock any of them, no restriction, as long as they're on Developer ROM. And no whatever ROM you choose the availability of LTE band is the same. This is a 'duh' moment really...
There are ROMs that can be put on the Redmi 3 without unlocking the bootloader that have the Play store (If I'm not mistaken at least one of them is on XDA).
Whether any are actually official ROMs though, I don't remember (but does it matter?)

So hello, this is my first Xiaomi device before that I have always used Sony Xperia devices. So I am really confused about some things. I got the Redmi Note 9S 64 GB model. Acording to many web sites and some threads on XDA this model should be "curtana". But what I want to ask is about my "codename". So I am currently on MIUI global 11.0.4 (QJWTRXM) and I have looked up on XDA and many roms require you to have 11.0.7. So if I look up on https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/firmware/curtana/ I only get the QJWMIXM global version. Can I flash QJWMIXM without any problems? My wait time will end tommorow and I will be able to unlock it. If anyone can help me out on this I would be very pleased...
Oh now after I post it I think have found something about it... QJWTRXM seems to be the Turkish version of the global rom. Which is outdated compared to it. So I think I can switch to the global rom since my device is 9S (curtana).

I think the same device is called Curtana for India Note 9 pro and Curtana_global for Note 9s . Any thoughts?
I would love to change my phone to curtana_global to get rid of device codename inconsistencies when switching between global and indian roms.

Hello every one,
I saw following thread on xda where MIUI 12 is available for Note 9S (aka Note 9 Pro in India, I guess).

My query is since it is not available in my country (Pakistan), Can I flash the Turkish Rom using Local Update Method?

I suggest you ignore Xiaomi model name and use model code, download an app like devcheck and see if you have curtana model code, then check if curtana is the one those roms are for. It's safer in my opinion

Yes the Redmi Note 9s Global or Turkey is a curtana device.

I'm using the Turkish 12.0.1 ROM (QJWTRXM) on a global 9S (QJWMIXM), it works fine. Make sure the firmware you're flashing is for curtana, and you should be good.
(Edit: I should probably clarify that this is a fastboot ROM I installed by unlocking the bootloader, flashing and then re-locking. If you want to install it as an OTA update and keep all of your data, I'm not sure whether that would work. It probably won't brick anything even if it fails, at worst it should just reject the update because of a mismatch.)

It's hosted on Xiaomi's servers, there are a bunch of websites that collect the links.
https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/curtana/
The one I used specifically is this (TR, fastboot):
https://bigota.d.miui.com/V12.0.1.0.QJWTRXM/curtana_tr_global_images_V12.0.1.0.QJWTRXM_20200922.0000.00_10.0_global_c851afa45f.tgz

Oh. It's fine, I guess. To be honest there's not much they changed from MIUI 11, even the new control center is disabled by default. I don't use any of the stock apps or the battery/storage stats, the camera UI is slightly more annoying, and everything else is the same. The Google Now/Assistant/whatever panel on the leftmost homescreen was also replaced with Mi bloatware, though I don't use that either and it might be something specific to the Chinese/Turkish ROMs that will be fixed in Global.
And you can have apps in floating windows which is... a thing, I guess. I'm sure it will be useful someday, it's just kind of gimmicky since video players, chat apps and things you'd want in floating windows can usually do it already on their own, with much better UX.
To be honest the only reason I use MIUI is because it has the best "iPhone knockoff" launcher you can't get anywhere else, which is even more hilarious with the navigation gestures and the control center. They knew what they were doing, but it's honestly quite nice.

I locked it personally because SafetyNet (and by extension the things that rely on it) won't work with an unlocked bootloader, and I haven't installed Magisk. I don't see how the act of locking the bootloader itself could cause any problems, the people reporting those usually installed something through recovery or tried to flash a curtana ROM on a joyeuse.
You also can't really "hard brick" a properly designed phone by flashing software on it, unless you're doing something ridiculous like overvolting the CPU or the battery and frying it (if that's even possible). Even if you were to overwrite the entire nand chip with zeroes or random data, it SHOULD be possible to just flash the stock firmware back onto it with EDL or fastboot. The issue here is that the wrong firmware can also overwrite/break the bootloader and fastboot (somehow, I haven't seen this happen on any other phone in my life), and EDL mode on recent Xiaomi devices requires a patched firmware or you to pay someone a couple bucks for their authorized account.
The EU version miUi12 for curtana is available in Mi servers for download.
Why is there a need to release Turkish an Russian specific rom? Translation ?

That one's flagged as a "beta" and is only available as a recovery variant, fyi. You might have to install the MIUI 11 EU fastboot ROM first and update it with that.
There's a Russian and an Indian version too, even though both of those languages are present in all of the ROMs. It probably has more to do with local regulations and what's preinstalled on each ROM (India might have a Flipkart APK, Netflix might not be available in Russia or Turkey so that region doesn't get it, the EU has regulations that say you have to let your users choose their browser and search engine, Russia might specifically have an embargo on a company, etc.) If you're really interested in the differences between the ROMs you could wait until 12.0.1.0 is released for all regions, extract all the files you can from the system/cust/recovery/userdata/etc partitions in the firmware and run a diff tool on them. It could literally be as simple as "one of them has a Netflix.apk inside and one of them doesn't".
For what it's worth, the filesizes between the ROMs are wildly different (RU 3.8GB, TR 3.5GB, IN 3.0GB) and I'd be willing to bet most of that comes from 50-100MB preinstalled APKs.
That makes sense.
They could do a slim/no apps global version. I am debloating it anyways, would save me a lot of time
So I was bored and decided to do just that, and... pretty much. I haven't delved into the boot image or the system partition yet because I can't be assed to compile the tools and copy everything over to a Linux VM, but I can't imagine there's anything substantially different between the two, like completely different radio and camera drivers or something. Interestingly, abl.elf is different, which I think (?) is the actual bootloader binary, though it might just be a new version (one of the ROMs was compiled two weeks later). Another fun fact is that the flashing script has almost twice as many files to flash as earlier Xiaomi images from 2013-2014. Even the partitions are getting bloated.

Yeah, I wish. The EEA (European) ROM is probably your best bet, since it has the most consumer protection laws to adhere to. I think it even comes with ads disabled by default, or it has to show you a prompt or something.
good for share !!!

Question Where to download the global firmware for Xiaomi ipad 5 pro?

Last summer I bought a tablet from China, but since I am a Russian user, it is not convenient for me to use the tablet because of some parts of the interface in Chinese.
On the official Xiaomi website, I found only the Chinese version, but why would I reinstall what is already on the tablet.
Please help me find the global firmware for the tablet. I will be very grateful to you!
erroneous post
as I understand it, there are no firmware on tablets.
then another question. if I download the global firmware to a regular xiaomi mi pad 5, will it work and how will it affect the tablet?

NO it is not compitabel! You will brick it. If you have unlocked bootloader. And, Magisk root could maybe be required. Then you could take a look around for Treble gsi Roms. I like Crdroid. But best to test with pure aosp made by phh

Are you suggesting installing custom firmware? That's the only thing I understood in your message...

Listen, what if I install a naked android? The one that came out last?
@skyneli
From reading many posts on XDA forum about Mi Pad Pro including 5G model, there is no Global firmware for the Pro model. Only Chinese firmware available. MIUI that comes with Chinese firmware will have English and Chinese languages only.
But as long as the firmware works well, you can flash GSI ROMs which is pure Android system with customizable features including all the languages.
Or you can wait longer for Custom ROMs that some developers may create for the community. If you are new to this, you can google tutorials of how to flash GSI ROMs on treble support devices.
FYI I bought Mi Pad Pro 5G Chinese model but not arrive yet. I have no done anything about this device yet.

Hello, consult. I have a "my pad 5 pro" with keyboard and pencil. in case of installing a "GSI ROM" will I be able to use the keyboard and the pencil?

@dnsco For bluetooth keyboard, yes you can still use it with GSI ROM. But magnetic and pencil, I don't think so. Because these 2 probably need system that supports or activates them.
Mine is Mi Pad 5 Pro 5G but don't have any other accessories like keyboard and pencil. So I have not tested them on GSI ROMs. But stay on MIUI original ROMs or custom ROMs that are made for your model is the best choice. I flashed GSI ROM on my device and got sound problems. So I returned to MIUI 13 A11 stable.
The Xiaomi pen doesn't work on any GSI. It's a massive drawback. I don't have the keyboard so I don't know... but my guess is the same pessimism.
