Does anyone know if the ASUS Rog Phone 2 with the Aero Case installed can be docked on the multimedia docking station or do we have to remove the Aero Case first?

Asus Mobile Desktop Dock different or same
Is the Asus Mobile Desktop Dock the same as the first one or different? I know they changed the box but is that all as the model of the new one supposedly says zs660kld like the phone while the old one says zs600kld like the 1st gen phone.
Any ideas would be great, if not when is the release for the 2nd model?
Case removal is required to get it to fit the mobile dock that was sold with the first rog phone unfortunately. Maybe the second version, if there are any differences, would fit the phone with aero case on.
Edit: There are rubber nubs that support the uncased phone while it sits on the dock. Maybe you could remove those if you are dedicated to using the phone with the aero case
In this video the guy docked his Rog Phone 2 with the Aero Case installed to the Mobile Desktop dock.

Is the Rog Phone 2 more slim compared to the first Rog Phone?

Linus Tech Tips has a unboxing and review of the ROG II phone and all the accessories.(although he is a ****ty reviewer). There is a part when he gets to the dock where he talks about differences he notices from the old one. But besides that, i dont think there are any differences. Mostly what he talks about is weight and the light on the front and stuff.

They totally deleted the video, probably because it was so ****ty. Thats hilarious. Anywas i dont know if the new video they made about the phone covers the differences.
I got the dock today.
Actually it is the dock for the first generation Rog phone.
It works fine with the Rog phone 2.
I couldn’t dock the phone with the aero case on. Had to remove it and it worked perfectly.
In the video above the guy was able to dock his Rog Phone 2 with the aero case on. Just wondering if the second generation dock provides more spacing for a case.

I got the old box model ZS600KLD and it works perfectly fine with the ASUS Rog Phone 2.
I don’t know the exact difference between both docks but I can confirm that the old dock works fine with the Rog phone 2.

Yes i seen that video, it was a mess of a review lol. I seen that he said that it was pretty much the same etc. but i am curious on what else has changed for the the model number to have changed and the box, otherwise why re-release the same product? since with the Mobile Professional Dock didn't get re-released but yet compatible with the ROG Phone 2.
I want to know if features are missing/added with the different versions? Has anyone tried this device?
Also is the Mobile Desktop Dock 2 released yet? anyone got it and if not when is it available?
@MCube74, thanks for the video link too, any help i am grateful for

I spoke to ASUS in HOng Kong and they assured me that the Mobile Desktop Dock fro last year can be used with that ROG phone 2.
I even spoke to an ASUS Sales Rep at a store and he said that the dock may very well be the same as last model. May be ASUS just changed the box to match with the box for other accessories.

when you connect your phone to the dock, you will be asked to update the firmware. Did you do that with the first dock?
Both docks are identical. Probably just the software update is needed.

So you have both docks? Can you take a closeup picture of both docks?
Also can you install the Aero case on the phone and then insert the phone in the dock? Can both phones be docked with the aero case on?
Just wondering if the new dock has more space for the case compared to the old dock.

Here are pictures of my Mobile Desktop Dock (ZS600KLD). It is the old model which I got free.
It works fine and I also played a game last night with my keyboard and mouse. I just don't know how to do the key mapping properly. Need to figure it out as I tried it the first time yesterday.
The thing is that I have installed a clear 3M film protection around the phone. This is to help avoid scratches on the phone. Kind of like a clear Slickwraps skin.
When I dock and then undock the phone then there are 2 marks at the back of the phone. Probably because there are these rubber nubs on the dock which are pressing on the back of the phone, which are the cause of the 2 marks at the back of the phone.
I am wondering if the new dock has more space which will avoid making those marks. What do you guys think?

A friend of mine dropped his HTC Evo View 4g (Sprint) dead-center on the charging port while it was plugged in and it snapped the USB connector completely off the PCB. Before even bothering to see if it could be repaired by HTC, he just went and bought a brand new one and told me that I could have his old one to do whatever I please.
So now here I am with a fully-functional HTC Evo View, sans charging port... I tore it down and removed the PCB, thinking that it was just a standard Micro-USB connection, and that I could just use my fine-tipped soldering iron to replace it... Boy was I wrong, there are something like twelve tiny little solder points. So I started doing some digging, and came up with this: *URL REMOVED SEE REPLY FROM ME* Replacement Charging Port PCB for the HTC Flyer
... the two look nearly identical, save for (what appear to be) some minor cosmetic differences. That, and the part numbers are slightly different. My PCB has a part number of 50H00689-10M-A, and the one listed on the above site has a part number of 50H00635-01M-XC. But, otherwise, they're identical, at least to my eye.
My question is, is the $31.68 replacement part for the HTC Flyer compatible with the HTC Evo View? Or am I **** out of luck?
Since Benwin was unable to reply to his own post, I'm posting the link to the replacement part.

Sad, I've been a member for four years this month, and I've only got four (now five) posts... I fail
Since its listed as a real replacement part, I'd guess it would work. since its a replacement it would have all the MHL stuff the Flyer has along with the USB lines. Since the View uses the same connection and connector including MHL its really should match.

evo view vs. flyer
My son had the same happen to his evo view. I have a htc flyer and took both apart to see if parts where interchangeable and noticed that there is a sslight difference between each.
The view has two additional cables at each end of the board that snap in. The flyer doesnt have these cables. I'm guessing its a connector for one of the since the flyer is a wifi only version.
Other than that they are exactly identical, but i have no clue if the flyer board will work in a view.
However my wife has a view as well. I got them all on a good sale. Anyways, I successfully swapped the boards out and my son's view is now working. Its a temporary fix until i find an exact replacement.
Sent from my HTC Flyer.

I just visited the link in post #2 and it looks like the listed part is almost identical to the one in the EVO View. It has the additional 2 small connectors at each end not on the flyer wifi version. I'm going to order one as well and hope that it fits my son's broken View. Thanks for the lead on part replacement.
Here is a photo of the PCB of the flyer, my guess a wifi only version:

And here is a photo of part I pulled from my son's View:
Its a little hard to see, but here is a closer look at the extra connection found on the View: (again from the part I pulled)
From the link in post #2, it looks like the one being sold is really close to the part I pulled as well. Maybe its for the 3G version of the Flyer and is why it has the extra connections?
Those most definitely are antenna connections. And if the flyer part you're looking at has the same I'd agree with your guess, a 3G Flyer.
Makes me wonderif the radios are on that board and if I put one of those in my wifi Flyer will it become 3G?

Last week I ordered the charging port PCB that is listed in post #2 of this thread and received it in the mail today.
The replacement part is almost identical to the original damaged part from the EVO View. One of the major differences I noticed is that the new part did not have the same number of gold clips (sorry I'm not sure what the technical name is). I am assuming they are for grounding purposes into the metal housing.
The other difference is that there was only one connecting port for the radio wires. Since my son is only using the View as a WiFi device, I am not to worried if the 4G radio is not working.
I installed the new board, hooked up all connections (minus 1 radio cable), replaced all covers and powered on the device. It worked like a charm and the charging port is fully functioning again.
The only problem that I noticed is that the wifi signal is not as strong as before. The repaired View gets 1 less bar than my Flyer and wife's View. Not sure if its due to the lack of 1 connection or the missing clips? Other than that, the View is like new!
Below is a photo of the two boards side by side. The top board is the original and the bottom board is the replacement.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jAvXoxtSY-c/T7GF0ebKhHI/AAAAAAAAE4g/qX_koX5w3NA/s0-d/20120514_151202.jpg
Thanks for starting this thread and posting the link for part replacement.
In looking at your pic I'd bet that you could unsolder both the antenna mount and the gold clips from your original board and move then to the replacement board.
As far as signal strength, I know I've seen numerous posts here saying that the View's wifi signal is weaker than the Flyer's.
Sent from my PG41200 using Xparent Purple Tapatalk 2
thanks for sharing your results.
I'm about to order the part as i to need it for the one my daughter broke.
BTW did you need to completely take the back cover off or just the small cover over the USB connector?
I removed the entire cover. The small cover at the bottom of the device is not like the top cover which snaps off and on. It has 2 small screws that gold it in place and can only be accessed from the opposite side.
Sent from Samsung GS2 using xda premium.
Well today received the Flyer charging port for my View. i ordered it from the link posted on this thread, Its exactly the same as the one i pulled out from my View"gold clips" and all, the removal and install was a breeze.
However the signal strength is really weak, i get 1 bar from 10 feet away from my wireless router. and it dies out all together from any further away. im not sure what to do next with it... maybe try to reseat the antenna connectors in case they are loose but i doubt that's the problem.
Anyone have any ideas?
thanks
What you're describing is classic antenna trouble. First I'd make sure the antenna wire is correctly connected and then that the grounds on the board are attached properly.

wow sorry i feel a sleep before i got a chance to post this:
I got it working looks like the WiFi connector came loose when i closed up the back panel, i secured it with some scotch tape seems to be working better then before.
but wait now i have another problem... i cant get my PC to connect with the View. I tried 3 different computers and numerous USB cables. i wonder if one of the PCB bd. connections came loose and its keeping the Flyer from Sync with me desktop, Damn!
I was in the same situation
Hello,
I would like to add to this thread.
I was in the same situation. I had broken the charging port on my evo view.
I did what a couple others here did, I bought the flyer replacement board from etradesupply. (I would like to thank everyone here for that information).
In only a couple of days, I received the board (ordered on 5-22 received on 5-24). The board had both antennae connections and the grounding clips.
Once installed, my View worked as 3g, not 4g, but that was expected as I believe the flyer is 3g. I am not using the 3g/4g so I cannot say whether the signal strength has changed, however my wifi signal seems to be as strong as it was with the original board.
One thing now, the home/menu/back buttons along the edge do not light up when the tablet is in the vertical position. They still work, just not visible. I did not examine the new board close enough to notice if the led lights were actually on the board. The old original board did have leds on it. Perhaps the flyer did not have those buttons and therefore did not need the lights. Someone with a flyer could answer that.
Or maybe I jarred something loose when I was replacing the board. I really hate to take the board out just to check for the lights, but curiousity may get the better of me and I will do that.
I hope this helps anyone out there.
I own a Wifi only 16GB Flyer and 32GB View. Lights are the same on both. Outwardly they are identical but color, although the innards have differences. Sprint doesn't have 4G service where I live so I can't comment on 4G connectivity.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Xparent Purple Tapatalk 2
Thanks
Thanks bsoplinger for the information.
Curiousity did get the better of me anyway and I took my View apart again. The leds are there, just not lighting up. I could not find out online which cable controls that aspect of the board, so I unplugged and replugged in the cables, still no lights. I am just leaving well enough alone and will enjoy a working View again.
I do know if the View is upgraded to android 3 (honeycomb) those buttons/lights are turned off anyway.
Hey guys. I just wanted you all to know that of the three options: Nokia Charging Pillow, plate, or stand. It's all about the stand! I've purchased all three and I wish I would have purchased the stand FIRST! I didn't know about it until after I purchased the pillow and the plate. The plate sucks because you have to make sure the phone is centered at all times, otherwise your phone doesn't charge or over heats or both. I've had bad experiences going to sleep and waking up to a beeping 120 degree phone. The pillow sucks because well for me it was pointless. It didnt help me in any way, I just took the plate out of the pillow and then it became a plate, which I just finished explaining. The pillow itself is a waste of money. The stand is perfect, you don't have to worry about your phone being centered because once its put on the stand it is centered. Anyways. To me, the plate and the pillow were mistakes. They should have only created the stand in the first place. Its perfect! I bought it from AT&T on employer discount for around $50, I think regular price its about the same as the others at about $65.
I got the stand used through Amazon and it does work pretty well. As others have mentioned though the NFC while working isn't in the best spot, and the phone can't be set horizontally either to watch videos or something. I'm sure there will be better ones down the line when wireless charging catches on.
Can you post a link to the stand, I see a ton when I google.

Well, you can't set the phone down horizontally and watch movies on any of the 3 can you? I just think that out of the 3 this one beats the other 2 hands down. And I think because it is always centered it charges slightly faster too. With the plate I am always wondering if its sitting on it correctly. Which is pretty annoying, especially if i pick it up at night when im in bed and i try to center it again in the dark...
Hopefully Verizon carries this thing online soon so I can use my discount. Otherwise it is fairly expensive especially since I plan to buy 2 or 3.
I also have the stand and agree it is the best option. You actually can get it to play and charge while horizontal if you don't mind propping it up on something. I have not been able to get the NFC to even activate and yes, I have it turned on in the settings. Maybe I am touching with the wrong spot on the phone. Can anyone discuss how this works?

AT&T had it last week and I bought one with my employee discount for $51.75 which is a lot better than $69. I tried to buy another one yesterday but it was out of stock. When it's back in stock I'll see if I can work something out with anyone that wants one. I could just buy it and have it shipped straight to you instead of myself. Paypal transaction or something. Anyone interested in something like that PM me

The NFC chip in the phone is behind the HTC logo, but it won't activate since the tag in the charging stand is for Windows Phone. You'll have to download an app called NFC Retagger to set the tag to launch an app or action
The NFC tag on the stand is on the front, on top if the little white light. I believe it says "NFC" in small print.
This confused me also, because I expected the NFC to be in the back if the stand, so the phone would see the NFC while charging. But, I don't know, maybe the current interferes with it or something.

The NFC chip in the phone is behind the HTC logo, but it won't activate since the tag in the charging stand is for Windows Phone. You'll have to download an app called NFC Retagger to set the tag to launch an app or action

Just to report back, NFC Retag worked for me. Easy to use and set up, works great with the stand and you do have to have the phone screen active and hold it sideways. Probably easier to just turn on the app but nice to know it works. This is new technology for me, other than the commercials of people tapping phones together I am not familiar with other ways this feature is used in everyday life but I am here to learn.
Thanks again.
This is the deal breaker for me on buying the Note 3 - will it work with the Note 2 smart dock?

I already bought this for my Note 2 and think it's great
wait and see if samsung makes a smart dock for the note 3. they still havent put any of their accessories up for sale yet

That's the breaker - I'm not interested in buying another dock
I thought I saw somewhere that the note 2 smart dock would be compatible with the note 3. I also have the note 2 smart dock as well and hoping it will work. If you look at the official samsung accessory for note 3 thread, there is a pic of the smart dock.
EDIT: Oops, looks like its the regular desktop dock and not the smart dock.
It. works

You have to use 5,3 power supply from phone Not from dock.
Gn3 with usb + USB. Great.
So, has anyone tested this yet?

Hi guys,
I have the smart dock and can confirm it works with the note 3
My mini review of it on the Note 3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46275928&postcount=16
I have the smart dock and it is working on my note 3. But I am having issues with my reciever (I am loosing audio) yet I have audio just fine through my TVs HDMI.
Since I havent tested the smart dock with any other phones I cant confirm if it is a note 3 issue or not. But I doubt it.
I think the dock just runs on the MHL 1.0 standard
I tried the black slide in dock today, the USB connector is in the wrong spot. So no good there.

works
I did it last night watching two different movies.
IT doesnt sit straight in the middle though since the usb 2.0 input is slightly off to the side
I use the universal doc and that works

Confirmed last night that the Smart Dock for my Note 2 also works for the Note 3 in 1080p even. Works well so far browsing the web, playing games, running benchmarks, YouTube, XBMC, etc. The only thing I noticed is the frame rate seems to be limited to 30fps vs 60fps without. Now, just need to find a similar thin translucent grey case to the one on my Note 2 that doesn't get in the way of the Smart Dock. Perhaps this:

The Note 2 Smart Dock works with the new Note 3
Hi Everyone,
I tested the new Note 3 with the Note 2 smart dock and thankfully it worked. You can see details of this on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWN43pnkg0s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCPCY9PSfSk
The only problem is that in landscape mode, the applications listed towards the bottom of the phone display does get cut-off. This is kind of annoying. I was wondering if there is any kind of fix for this?
Cheers.

This how you have a player having to charge up his gear s? Thats messed up

I have onle had my watch for a few days, but is this because it doesn't clip on or because it is annoying to clip on? I figured the waist way is to line it up on the one end then push it into place, it fits nice and snug at that point.

this is how i charge. the pic is sideways, not sure why.
the charging clips seem like they were just meant to break. mines broke after a few months.
I'm confused. What problem does socks and bottles solve? Do people using them have broken tabs on their charger or "slots" on their Gear and use the socks and bottles to apply pressure so the pins connect? I know I could end up like others with a broken charger but I have two (work/home) and so far they attach and come off fine. With all the issues reported I look at the clips on both chargers regularly and nothing's changed. Once a non-defective charger's attached I can't see where applying pressure to it would do much to preserve the tabs. If there's something causing them to fail I'm guessing it's stress from repeated attachment and detachment. Granted it's a dumb design for a $300+ device but I'd like to think enough thought went it regarding longevity so if people are affected it's a minority. Time will tell.

yeah adds pressure to broken chargers. eventually the tabs will break. i was always careful with mine, but in months it broke anyways.
I babied mine after reading about the broken tabs also but mine broke after 3 months also. I'm so ticked that Samsung won't own up to this big blunder. It should've been wireless charging to begin with because I've read of peoples charging contacts on the watch corroding and not working any more

My biggest concern isn't having to replace a $30 charger (even though I/we shouldn't). It's the pics some people posted of the receiving slots on the $300 Gear S breaking. That's a problem. You spin the wheel and take your chances.
I somehow got status in Samsung's support program and I called about this. I was told if anything happened to my Gear S or charger I'd get an advance replacement. Some relief but I'd rather not have to test it.
Hello All! I read up a lot about the Gear S before making my purchase so was well aware of the tab on the charger breaking. First time using it was difficult to get off; now I just slide it a smidgen to the right & it comes off without me pulling & tugging at it.
So now I have it down to a science.
Snap on; slide off. I hope doing it this way continues to work months from now but only time will tell.
Is this trick somewhere in the manual?
Slide right, gentle pull on the tab... how simple. Much less pressure to detach; easier on the clip. Why isn't Sammy advertising this more? I've ordered two backup chargers on ebay: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/281588490165?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT -fearing the inevitable breakage..
Update: Speak of the Devil; Postman just dropped off chargers as I was posting. Both allow usb connection and charge ok. No LED like the OEM and I'll have to get back to you on standalone spare -charge after I've tested. But at $8.99 US (free Shipping - Apr 27) I have backup for my worn clip.
So I bought two.
Now let's hope the Watch clip stays viable

Update 2.0: the Cheapies appear to be CHARGER/ADAPTERs only! No LED and no mobile -charge. On the plus side; they work great to leave on the night desk, come with their own usb and seem to charge the watch via generic usb-mobile-battery pack as a work-around...
BTW Did you know that thumb-pressure on the corner of the charger opposite the tab (Speaker corner) will pop it off with almost no effort? Where is that posted? Works on the OEM version, too
Well after the ebay chargers have now stopped staying on the watch, I filed a claim with squaretrade and sent my watch back to them for a refund. I really did love the watch but I cannot justify paying that much money and then having to shove a sock inside the watch opening to charge it every night, and the fact that Samsung could care less about the issue makes me even more upset about this whole thing. I will miss being able to see who calls without picking up my phone but if Samsung does not care any more than this why the heck should we.

ST is insurance. When you send your watch/charger back they'll repair it. If the repair cost is higher than the insured value they'll consider it "beyond economic repair" and pay you whatever the max value of the policy you bought is or what's on the receipt you provided them. "I don't like the charger design" isn't grounds for a refund.

Being a Vodafone user, I have some insurance which comes with it. Raised a claim from them. Need to submit few docs. Let's see how it goes.. I just enquired with mi service center here and they charge a ridiculous rs 6133 for the screen replacement. Anyone have newer updates for a good screen.

I thought the back cover could probably the first part gets damage, cause it's plastic. Sorry to hear that. You know you can check witrigs for the part, reliable, and they always sell original parts. Original is the most important thing for cellphone repair for me. Hope this can help you。
Hi,
@Kaadyep
Mine was broken as well. I ordered one on Aliexpress. Seller is Trafalgar (can't post link, rating is 4.9 at the moment, at 100 orders) and cost around 30-38 USD inclusive tools.
Fits perfect and work without issues and no bleeding. The included tools are ok, just the Torx is not fitting. Open the phone is easy but the display is glued. Since the display was broken anyway, i just used one of the included plastic clips and push it under the edge of the broken display, go one round and then you can remove it. The phone still need to be fully disassembled since the flat cable is under the motherboard and battery pack. After that I used very thin double sided tape on the edges to glue the new one in. That is 2 weeks ago and no issues.
Hope that helps.

It could be that the FHD only denotes the 1080 part then the other would be dependend on the aspect ratio. You could say that a panel is FHD but the ratio might be 21:9 (ultrawide), 18:9 (for smartphones), 16:9 (regular), etc.
