That's what you'll find in the guides. Did you mean "without"?
Yeah was a typo
Hi everyone,
Just got my AT&T Galaxy Note, about to Root it, Overclock/Undervolt, etc.
Does anyone know if there's a stock ROM for it floating about, that would make it a hair easier, if not, away we go! Will start a new thread as soon as things are ready, it will probably be an Odin Kernel flash root so note that it will trigger the custom binary counter in Odin, although no ones run into problems with that yet that I know of..
Hope you figure out how to root 2.3.6
So far, no one has figured out how to root the international version (LA4)
if they update via kies without downgrading, rooting, upgrading via ODIN.
Glad to see you over here.
Really quiet in here. Hopefully some action for the Rogers I717R Note also.
no luck.. no root..

That was the phone that got me on the android bandwagon. If he can root this, I will donate $100 simply because I've had the phone for 5 hours and am sick of the bloat already.
I can supply a dump but thats about it!
I'm uploading a system dump now for anyone to pick through when they toast theirs. more of a safety precaution than anything.

You should be able to get a stock firmware of any Samsung phone by using CheckFUS
Download "check fus" from the market and run it on your phone. Note the exact model number, Product Code, PDA, CSC, PHONE values.
Then open on your computer Checkfus you downloaded from the website i linked above,
1) click advanced tab
2) chose OS as Android
3) Model SGH-i717
4) Product Code, copy from your phone's check fus app
5) Hidswver: copy the PDA/CSC/PHONE/PDA info from the check fus on your phone
Click the check firmware button and it should let you download the most recent firmware for your phone.
I don't have the phone but this worked for just about any Samsung phone i had, including AT&T models.
If someone can provide me the product code and relevant information using check fus i would appreciate it as i am trying to download a stock rom
I want to adapt it for use in the korean rom

Edit....in fact, this update question gets asked here about 20 times a week...
So the link is worthy of addition to the super thread as a resource...as it explains every part of the process for new users.....
I'll hurry and ask if it's okay to add to the thread......tic,tock,tic,tock,tic..
Gregsarg said yes, so i'm putting it there on Sunday night...
Thank you OP.....g
Anyone know why kies says note is not upgradeable through kies...drivers and everything installed correctly...did the update get pulled
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Are you rooted ?
Kies will see a rooted device as having " privileged commands " if you have a custom or altered recovery or boot loader ...
Verify that you are "stock "....before attempting to use Kies for upgrades ...
Otherwise, another method must be used ....like Odin ....g

I'm trying to update my phone, but my phone won't let me. My co-worker thinks it's because of the cLockwork recovery that's doing it. How can I get rid of the cwr so I can update my system
Well you didn't give any information on the software on your phone. Why not flash to an updated rom since you're already rooted. Searching and learning helps.
No Custom Recovery...

Your co-worker is right; no custom recovery will allow you to take an update on this phone. At the moment, however, you should not have to take any update.
What does it say on about phone under baseband?

Under reality.
The insane one provided, yet again, lucidity. This pertains to the Galaxy Note 3, which has a Knox fuse, and running custom recovery disables one's ability to take over-the-air or over-the-wire updates.
Your S3 firmware upgrade is not relevant nor is it germane to the question posted.

Can't believe this question has been posted this long and no one has answered it yet. I wws curious about this myself.
Not according to anyone in the actual thread for Framaroot nor the Supported Devices link that is on the original post of said thread about Framaroot lists it working for your Tab. It's very simple to root those. Just have to install a custom recovery with Odin then boot immediately to recovery and flash the SuperSU zip.

This might vary slightly if you have a different version or firmware for your tablet as they make a few different variations.
