[Camera Problem] Camera doesn't save picture - Sony Xperia 1 Questions & Answers

Since 10 days threre is a bug in my Xperia 1. If I take a picture, camera doesn't save the picture, also in the small preview the loading image will be there for hours. After restart it works perfect for about 10 pictures, but the problems will be there again. If I will use another camera app there will will be a camera fault.

Xperia 10 or xperia 1? This is the Xperia 1 forum..
But anyways, try clearing data from the camera app. Settings > apps > Camera

Xperia 1, sorry fault in typing. I tried this 3 times, but no change

I have also had this problem. The camera app is trash. The battery and screen are the only things going for this overpriced junk. Sony should deliver more for the price they are asking.

Are you on the latest firmware? And are you saving to the Internal storage or sd card?

Camera app is fine. Sell it and move on if you're not happy.

Yes latest firmware. Device is great, also pictures if it works with camera

Camera app is trash, It's slowest app on the entire phone. I don't have any issues on other apps loading but Camera app takes seconds to load.
Like the OP said photos are being processed and it's not saved for a long time. Need a restart of the entire phone to get them to work.
Then again sometimes photos are saved as green, like complete useless.
And you shouldn't say like sell it and move on cause us/consumers bought this phone paying $1000 because we have a trust in the company, And I have been using Sony for the past decade, I always had problems with their camera app. It's so laggy.
From the start to transition of three cameras then video recording lag, no smoothness in zooming in during video etc. But why I buy Sony? cause I have a faith that in some point they will fix it, but they never do. Then you may ask why I still buy Sony cause I love the design and as a hardware product Sony has a very minimal failure rate. Like my XZP I have used for entire two years, never gave me a single issue except for laggyness of the camera.
So when someone comes and complains an issue in Q&A and when they are really pointing out a real issue don't say "Sell it and Move on if you're not happy." it's like you're making Sony Mobile extinct. Your attitude makes them wanna quit mobile developing. So think about it before say something like this before, Don't be that guy in the internet. :highfive:

Camera does load slow, but I can live with it. Photos do not take a long time to process. I don't need to restart my phone in order to get them to work. Photos never saved as green for me. But of course, my experience is different from others.
Never had recording lag. Smoothness well yeah it's not smooth. I bought Sony because I like Sony as well. Have been using Xperia since 2014.
Do a software repair, which usually fixes 99% of all problems. I'm just saying, if you're not happy, then sell and move on. Complaining won't get you anywhere, will only get you so far.

No you can't live with that, It's a real bummer that it takes ages to load, I mean it's 2019 and take a look at other OEMs how much attention they pay to their cameras. This is why Sony is lagging behind. Look how much Sony's other divisions listen to consumer. I don't think I can accept the fact that it takes like 2 seconds to load the app. There was a time Camera app was really fast to open.

Well Zooming in isn't really smooth if you hadn't used it, This proves how often do you use the camera app. It's like these things are new to you.
Have you used a compact camera? or a camcorder? It's like that. https://youtu.be/WHpo-Dl4yt4?t=465
Take a look at this and see cause he literally explains the smoothness on zooming in and the recording. Frames dropping when the phone gets heated up.
Then again I feel like this 960fps is fun to use when you get it first but how often do you use it. I'd rather have 1080p 120fps/240fps, 4K 24fps/30fps/60fps and a smooth transition in cameras which is totally can be done by software. Sony needs to focus on the camera app and be serious about it. I mean they headed in the right direction with this phone but they cut it off immediately by delivering a mediocre camera software. I wouldn't mind them contacting Google and asking them to use Gcam on this phone, like literally let google use Googles software cause it's that bad. I use it and I take photos and I do love the photos comes out of this phone, I genuinely do and I wanna use the camera a lot but I get bored and tired of using it cause the restrictions they have.

Have a look at this photo, I mean people asked me if I did take it with my phone and they didn't believe, I did some colour adjustments to my liking with LR, but still it does take amazing photos but I feel like it can do more but holding back.

Bro why would I be doing software repairs for silly problems like this? This easily can be fixed with a software update. Plus If I keep doing software updates for each and every problem I have with the phone, I would be only doing that but not using the phone. SOFTWARE REPAIR IS NOT A FIX.
Sony should serious about smart phone cameras as they're with mirrorless and RX-100 series. Don't say sell it and move on to a guy who's been using Sony phones from 2005 when Sony was with Ericsson, when Sony was having some of the best camera phones.: highfive:

I can live with it. Because I'm patient. I'm not sure how you can dictate if I can live with how things are or not. Again, the photos process fast for me without any problems. Regardless if I save on the SD card or internal storage.
Software repair is a fix for some issues. Hence "repair". It solves a lot of software problems. You've been using phones since 2005? Congrats! AFAIK, there's internal struggles with their Alpha cameras and mobile, hence the bad connection between the two. The current (new) president of Sony mobile was the first to "unite" them in a way.
But anyways, you have your opinions, I have mine. Don't try to force your way on me, especially from someone who has been "using Sony phones from 2005".
I suggested a fix via Software Repair. If it doesn't work, complain on the proper forum; or sell and move on.

Ok i have this problem too... And its really annoying because when i want to find it in my album last pic that i took its not there

Had this problem to.
Hard reset fixed it for me. (Hold volume up + power until 3 times vibration)
I have to agree with you chesterr...
This isnt the way Sony handled us. Btw Using Sony (ericsson) since the phones with the first color screens.
Cmon, its a flagship phone. How can your phone/app be laggy?
Look at the sections of sony phones, its just empty.
Why?
Because of the "I am sony, I am high class" logic.
I know they are busy with the new android but atleast fix those minor bugs.. Its really frustating. It has nothing to do with patience. What if you need to take a picture of a fast moving object? Shoot out with "hey wait I have patience! Im gonna take a picture"!?
Be realistic. No offence of course.

in gallory app, there is a troubleshooting option in in-app settings, it can solve ur problem.
or, you can disable sony's gallory app, use other gallory app like Google Photos instead.

Oddly I do not have this problem with the launch of the camera. It does not even take a half-second to open the application, taking photos longer is quite logical because there is an intermediate (the dram). Moreover, the xperia 5, which does not have dram, taking photos is faster. For unregistered photos I wonder if this is not a material design defect related to the dram since there are only some people who are concerned and not all of the users.

The problem is launching from the lockscreen with the camera button. Camera icon works flawlessly.
So the dram chip is a complete failure then?

Its supposed to be 5 times faster?

the dram is actually much faster but acts like a cache. So in practice, the data is stored on the dram then the internal memory or the microsd and a delay is mandatory. The advantage of the dram is to be able to offer a better bursts or an idle 960 fps. A good example for the transfer delay is in a reflex camera where you can see the buffer empty during a burst. But for unregistered photos a problem of dram is not an exclude it is only flash memory and in this area it's pretty recurrent I had several defective ssd or ram to the purchase . Obviously this is only an assumption I would prefer that it is purely software for those concerned by the problem

Even from the lockscren I do not have that, after the camera is torn down in the android battery optimization, and I activated the smart launch as well as the immediate take. That may be the difference.

I hope it's software but weird that not all models are affected in this case, maybe a poorly done update. Always tried a repair / reset, if it still may be a hardware defect, I had once had a problem recording 960 fps on the premium xz and that was the dram the problem

Yes, tried I hope your problem will be solved. Have a good day

Android optimization? How?

I made an account just to reply here for whoever may one day face this issue - I just purchased an xperia XZ [I know its 2021 and its from 2016] anyway, I love xperia phones and am replacing my xperia z3+
Anyway!
TO FIX THIS =============================
First test to verify --- REMOVE YOUR SD CARD [Can you see your photos?]
IF YES
THEN
FORMAT YOUR SD CARD AS EXTERNAL / INTERNAL STORAGE [whichever option you are allowed I chose external]
Your problem will then be fixed.
I tried transferring my sd card from previous xperia directly to my new one and thats what caused this problem.
I hope this helps you, don't be upset, its a wonderful device.... <3

Camera freezing.

I know that there are topics made about this issue. I'm wondering though how many of you actually have it. The main culprit from my research seems to be that the OTA has some bugs that is making the Camera go on the fritz.
If this indeed is true, then would another OTA fix it? My return date is tomorrow so I have some time to think before I exchange it for a fresh new one. If it indeed is a OTA issue, then I don't want to exchange it since I have applied a nice screen protector.
i doubt its the ota. i took all of the ota so far. i have no issue with camera.
Really? That's disheartening..
I googled "evo 3d camera freeze" and many, many people held discussions in other forums about their camera freezes. A lot of them also pointed out that they didn't have the problem until after installing the OTAs.
I really don't know what to do.
There are other threads on this but the bottom line is that the camera software is buggy and yes, it freezes a lot. I can't say anything about prior OTA's but I am confident that future OTA's will fix the camera bugs because they all appear to be software to me.
Mike
Thanks. I think I'll just keep the phone.
Worst comes to worst, I'll still be covered under HTC's warranty and can schedule a free repair with them. Sure I'll be phoneless but it's better than exchanging a otherwise perfectly functional phone and risking getting a phone that's worse.
Same here I have that problem to and I have latest ota. Hopefully this gets fixed.

The other thing that I like to point out is..
Why isn't this a bigger issue than it is? Is it mainly because, those who don't have this issue did NOT take the OTAs? I know that everyone is waiting for root so most people on here probably did not take the OTA to ensure full root functionality. I mean that's assuming the main factor for freezing is from the OTAs (which some lucky ones who did install the OTA didn't get this issue like the above.).
I don't know. I just feel like this issue isn't widespread for HTC to notice. :/
My camera is extremely buggy. I did the OTA so that I could see the Green Hornet (Which never worked for me :'( Only option is to buy it) and now my camera is all but totally worthless it locks up so bad
It doesn't seem to concern htc as they contacted me back through email that they currently aren't experiencing any camera issues... Lies.... So the only remedy they offered me was to factory reset... Done that twice.. Or to take it to a repair center. But I believe this is a software issue.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
This is a huge issue for me and it's getting worse. Its got to the point now I have to turn the phone off and sometimes even pull the battery. At first it was simply kill the camera and try to open it. After opening it about 7 times it would work. I'm going to start looking in to this further as it has gotten out of control. I'll post back here if I find anything worth sharing.

This is what they told me as well. The support rep assured me that the phone might need repairs. I mean, they are a big company, so they probably don't want a big issue like this being on the front page to Engadget. So they're most likely downplaying all the issues and we can hope that a fix in the near future is out there...

Whoa. This is exactly my problem. Except, mine isn't getting worse but if you have anymore info on this issue, feel free to speak your mind. I do feel your pain brother, I love photography and thought this would be my point and shoot while shopping for a DSLR.
I too am experiencing the freeze up once in a while but my main gripe is well yes it is a down step from the 8meg pixel camera on the original EVO, and I understand that but I came from the Hero with a 5meg camera also and it seems to take sharper and better quality photos than my 3vo...of course in 2D. A little disappointed to say the least.
So far tempt rooting doesn't seem to make the freezing stop. Oh well...I haven't found much use for the camera as of lately. The phone itself is flawless though..
This is my second Evo 3D and both did it. Same issues as discussed here. This is how I can seem to "force" it. If I take a picture and the preview is up and I touch the screen before the preview goes away then it stays of the preview. Have to close and restart camera bunch. Also if I am in the camera and I hit the little thumbnail in the lower left to go to the gallery, also stuck on the first preview it brings up. SOMETIMES if I close the camera and then go to the actual Gallery and then come back to the camera it will work.
I also experience these type of issues when switching from 2D to 3D. Again, this is my second (I had to return the first one fore defective screen) and they both had the exact same behavior. Both BEFORE and AFTER OTA.
It is actually very embarrasing to try to show off your new technology and it freezes everytime you try to show it off. I have had several people just laugh at it. "Yeah nice phone."
If you absolutely do not have to. Don't exchange it. My phone works flawlessly minus the camera freezing and I ended up not taking the risk of getting a phone with a myriad of issues in this forum.
As soon as HTC sends out another OTA fixing this, as I'm sure this is a software issue, I will be extremely pleased.
yeah i dont know what to do, because htc is assuring me that it could be hardware related. Although i dont think thats the case since it hasnt fully failed yet. Camera app works to a point where i start messing with the 2d/3d switch or hold the phone from portrait mode to landscape mode.
Same with mine. It works on and off (mostly off) so I am at least 90% sure it's a bug in the software for the camera.

thanks for your response, i guess we'll just play the waiting game since everything else works flawlessly on this phone
I took all ota's. No camera bugs here.

The issue is the SD card.
The factory one is SLOW. It takes time to write to a slow card....hence camera lag while it's writing the image file.
That was tough....next.

[Q] Xperia Mini pro 2 list of bugs or h/w defects? (sk17i).

Could someone please clarify the status of the following bugs and possibly add a list of other existing ones (and hardware issues appropriately marked so? or false positive defects in a small number of units that people cross posted to forums about?):
a)the static video noise (or is it general noise that people just put through video to demo it's there?), I think I've read somewhere it's a hardware problem and sony re-released the unit with extra insulation near the usb port or something... Which is bad.
b)still photo quality,
c)capacitative button (either warm unit malfunctions or vibration or something),
d)brightness flicker problems (ambient sensor problems)?
e)network (gsm/3g?) dropout problems if network selection is not auto.
Perhaps we could have one thread with a list of bugs or hardware problems and their status (e.g. expected firmware fix dates from sony?)
I'd like to buy a unit, but a couple of days lurking on the forum and searching the web have revealed too many disturbing things to risk wasting $300 (especially since I was going to get one from HK)...
Also, how are people's dead and bright pixel counts. Some indian forums report very high d/b/p counts. Sending a unit back to HK for me would be a disaster and the seller would no doubt play dumb if I request a 'no dbp unit'...
meh.

Your warrenty is with Sony, not your HK seller. You should be able to take it to Sony for repairs/replacements.
A) Not loud enough to be noticible. Unless your recording dead silence with the volume all the way up on playback, you won't notice it.
B) No. It's a mobile phone. If you want super HD 12 mEgAPoxeL shots then buy a REAL camera. The photo's I have taken are perfectly acceptable quality, for a mobile device.
C) IIRC this does not affect Mini Pro's.
D) Yes. Sony needs to tweak this in the next update. A total non issue.
E) Yes, it does. Is that an issue for you? I can't possibly imagine why you'd need to switch networks on the fly.
1) This is not only a video issue, this is a general electrostatic noise in the phone almost all the time the device is active.
Official response: "The problem has been looked at and this issue will be fixed in a future software update for the phone. At the moment I have unfortunately no information on exactly when this update will be released but I'll update you all as soon as I hear anything."
To summarize my relevant thoughts on this issue for now:
- I wait for the first signs of the 2.3.4 ROM on XDA -> and then for a quick test of a member with a cricket phone whether it makes real improvement... (the Mini already has 2.3.4...)
- I wait official response what my legal possibilities are if the software update makes only some video noise reduction, or sth like that (= it's only a cover repair...), but the noise remains in general.
- I also wait for news on fresh stock (the lack of Mini Pro stocks in Italian stores is not individual case, I heard similar stories from the UK and India, and we also don't have Mini Pros with official manufacturer guarantees!) to notice if the hardware has been revised. The shop I purchased the phone from told that they had an 11W36, but I couldn't check it. (all: http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/22121?tstart=0)
2) Many more sensitive people on photo topics blame too much compression considering the photos. It can be corrected - other question is that will they do it...
3) Overheating affects only the standard Mini, and as far as I know the crazy capacitive buttons, too.
4) Minor problem - easily solvable - it also depends on SE
5) Quite a few people complained about this... - but it is also affected by the network availability in that specific region, not only the phone... I haven't tested this.
+ you can add the USB-cover
++ white Mini Pro-s: keyboard light can make the letters hardly visible in some light conditions
etc.
Just buy it. Test it and if you dont like it-return it.
Im very happy with the phone.
Hi. Just want to ask you guys when you're charging the phone and using it at the same time does the screen become unresponsive?

doesn't happen with mine.
i think there might've also been a problem on the forum reported by users where the phone overheats while charging for too long. That one made me particularly concerned as well :\
edit: ah ok, read just above it's mini only, not mini pro... that's good to know.
as for the electrostatic noise problem, here is where i heard about the recall from: http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/com...6247-sony-ericsson-xperia-mini-pro-sk17i.html
also in the off sony forums thread
>Just buy it. Test it and if you dont like it-return it.
I could... I guess.
>Your warrenty is with Sony, not your HK seller. You should be able to take it to Sony for repairs/replacements.
not really... all of my previous Sony products (earphones, music players, headphones) had local not international warranty (I had sony service centers tell me to f-off before). Hence I don't really think buying in HK will have warranty in Australia

This is individual. Mine is useless for video recordings if you don't mute the playback. I have tested in noisy environment and the cricket noise gets through. And believe me, when you once hear it, you can't stop hearing it.

I really don't see why sony continue being giant douches about the issue... Why not make an official statement on their site and/or to all users registered with the SK17i units and either issues a recall/replacement or provide a firm answer on when a firmware fix will be out if it's fixable in firmware (re: mic mis-calibration hypothesis). Or is the 'firmware in october' with a fix an official statement? (it sounded like 'no promises')
it's not really doing faith in their brand much good. It's been what - 3 months now?
if i compare my pictures with those taken bij blackberry's, htc desire hd and desire z, se x10 and se x10 mini pro, my pictures are much better looking.
if i compare it with my sony camera it looses out off course but the pictures arent bad.

perhaps an objective evaluation with stated criteria like low iso performance,compression/general noise/trouble focusing/exposure/color/etc artifacts/problems is a more suitable comparison? e.g. what gsmarena does and that suggests the pro 2 camera is not that great.
I want to have the static noise whenever my device is on sooo badly. But too bad, I got a good handset!
I don't know that I'd characterize the phone as defective on all of these counts. I believe the lemon count is high, but that's debatable based on what behavior the customers are seeing. The only two I'd really call defects are the buzzing and the soft buttons going crazy.
The cam not being as good as it should is just the way it is.

lol. none of the SG,HK,AU sellers are replying with regards to if it's possible to return a phone if it's defective and the costs/who bears them. (or if there are too many bright/dead pixels). That sure is reassuring.
With my phone i have video issues with cricket sound in silent enviroment. That's really issue and only for this phone. Almost phone of sony not have this issue
Photo quality is being compressed too high so the quality too bad . I use X10 MP and it's almost good 2times over this phone about capture picture . I hope sony can fix it as soon as !
Don't any of you guys think that the static noise makes the phone sound powerful? I really want that noise in my phone. I don't think its a bad thing. Maybe if my phone makes a 'girl-screaming' sound, then I'd be annoyed.

No, you don't want it. While it may sound 'cool' it is actually a defect to do with the wiring in the phone.

Nokia Lumia 920 - review and why I returned it.

I bought the 920 on weds..just returned today. The first one the shop had was DoA but the guy gave me another meant for another customer. The phone is top notch quality albeit on the heavier side. Camera placement in the center is not ideal and the phone could slip out of your hands..but its built like a tank. Screen is excellent and call quality is clear . Despite the weight it feels really good...better than the iphone 5 which i also have and night and day against any samsung phone (i had note 2 as well). Now the bad news.
Windows 8 mobile sucks!!! It took me an hour to setup my windows live or is it hotmail account. When I first setup it thought I was a child and gave me the round around telling me to check with family controls etc. Also I needed to put my credit card details etc just to access the app store. This process was also confusing since it redirected to the awful internet explorer mobile on the phone where the fonts were so small I couldnt see damn thing. Resizing the web page was cumbersome at best. I tried a few times...and i was so frustrated i felt like throwing the phone against the wall. In the end I did a hard reset and after more mucking around and searching on forums I got it working. But it was like pulling teeth.
Once I got my account setup..you cant change it unless you do a hard reset. So you are basically locked to that account. So if you have one older MS live account and a newer one , you wont be able to switch. This is the most retarded thing out. On android and iOs you can have many accounts as you want. I have a US, UK account which I like to use.
Anyway the first thing I did was go to the app store to download essentials such as Whatsapp , skype etc since nowadays we dont really talk anymore on the phone but message.Skype was ok and it has a special interface coz MS owns it. I set up my mail and main account in less than 5 minutes on my 920. It synced perfectly and pulled down all my contacts, calendar, and photo.
Music syncing wasn't quite as smooth, but I got it working. I do agree about having only one main account and not being able to change it seems stupid.
As for apps, they are coming, but I have noticed some developers putting out subpar WP8 apps while their iOS and Android are fine. I blame the developers for that crap. It's inexcusable.

Hmm that's funny...
I have an adriod tablet... gmail account and credit card needed for the marketplace... hmm Sounds like an iPhone where an Apple id is required to use the iCrap. Same issue there. Now, I do have one customer that has a Blackberr..... uh nope just switched to a 920. Just saying, your first point has me wondering where else it is any different. The comparison to iOS, eh... one thing I don't have an issue wit on the phone is text size and reading all that, but you do realize you can change that in the settings!!!! This was a change over WP7. Yes there are some subpar apps, but that's what sets WP apart so much of the phone will do what you need 10 apps to do on iOS and Andriod. I can do most of what you do faster on any other platform. However, this is all a preference argument and I personally don't have an app hard on. I had to help a customer settle in coming from her iPhone, but we set up her outlook to use her Micosoft accout for her contacts and calander. She is all setup like if she had excange server at home without changing her other email address. There is a learning curve with any switch... you made one when you bought your first iPhone. You are not buying a new iPhone, it is a new platform.

I'm sorry you had such a hard time setting an account. In my case, it look me less than 2 mins. It would have been much easier for you to create an account on your computer and then just sign-in with your phone. Wish WP8 provided a "hint" like this to those who are completely new to this ecosystem.

Completely agree.. iCrap forces you to do it that way... the device does not even power on without initially hooking it up and setting it up with iTunes on a computer. I think Micrsoft could recomend it on that first setup screen. If you already have an MS account you don't need to go to the computer at all.... so at least with WP8 you can skip that step and have everything setup before you get home. Just when you thought that would be a feature!
OP, I feel your pain. I like my Nokia 920, but am starting to get cold feet because of the apps. One example, I drive a Toyota it uses ENTUNE, there is no app and possibly will never be fully compatible. ALso things like HBO GO and such. I dont use them much on a phone anyway, but I still miss it. And as my cable company adds Video Apps, they take forever to get to Android, how long until they even acknowledge WP8?? My Son is a college athlete, whats the odds his schools app will have a WP8 version? Again, I do like the phone, if I didnt also use a 7" Galaxy Tab, I probably would have returned it. However, the new Galaxy Note 2 is tempting me to switch phones again...
While the setup on mine was easy, I'll be returning it today for one big reason...the camera. Granted, I knew going in that they camera has problems in daylight shots, but I figured I'd give it a try in the real world and see how my results turned out. Honestly, even worse than I expected. I also have the SIII and this thing can't hold a candle to it's camera. Maybe Nokia fixes it with a software update, but what if they don't? I'd rather return it and wait and see rather than keep it, go beyond my return window, and be stuck with such a crappy camera that never gets fixed.
He's a comparison shot I did this morning. The 920 picture looks like it's been run through some sort of cartoon editing software. Look at the tree on the right with the dead leaves still on it compared to the shot from the SIII. Insanity.

Yeah, I have seen a couple of those shots show up, but the majority of shots put the SIII to shame. Go indors and take some shots without the flash (turn it off) And yes the Lumia 900 had some simular issues and yep that got an update right away. The cam went from lackluster to pretty damn good. The pictures consistantly came out better than my transforer prime tablet which had a decent camera.

Hmm, I set mine up in the store while waiting for the receipt to be printed. But I did already have a .live account. I didn't have to input a credit card because if I buy anything I just add it to my ATT bill. Very unlike my iPad where Apple insists I have a CC on file.
As for locking you into one specific account, well, that's no different from Apple. I can't change my Apple ID either.
And apps? Well, I find that the OS does just about anything I need without specific apps. Whereas I find IOS not much more than a glorified 'app launcher'.
Don't get me wrong. I love my iPad. But I expect something more and different from my phone. I expect my phone to simplify my life and frankly I find this OS does that. I was a 'flashacholic' when I had previous windows phones so I really considered a new Android phone. But frankly WP8 is a dream to use.
OP, sorry you had such a hard time. I had the same hard time the first times tried to set up my first iPad. This comes from being familiar with an OS. Other OSs feel 'wrong'. The 920 isn't for everyone, nor is WinPhone 8, nor is IOS or even Android.
Ain't choice great!

Agreed, and far, FAR beyond iPhone, which I ran with for over 2 years.
As for setting up the Microsoft account, I don't see how anyone could have a problem with it. More importantly, if you know you have to set one up...do it on your PC, not your phone. That's just common sense, or so I'd guess.
Windows Phone 8 is, hands down, the best mobile OS I've ever used, and I've used them all.

If that is the case, the Lumia has the most potential. The limitations are on the way the phone is processing the pictures (software) not a limitation on hardware. Hardware you can't change, software you can. Every phone today gets tweeked with after it's initial release. The 920 will be no different. The stabilization works, the low light performance works... Give them a chance to update and if it still doesn't perform... something better will be out there or coming out.

I absolutely agree the Lumia has tons of potential. And I'm sure they'll put out an update to the software to fix the camera. That's why I returned mine to wait until they do. I can promise you, once they fix it and the reviews start pouring in that the camera is good to go, I'll be picking another one up. Other than the camera software, this phone is amazing.
But even when i turned flash off the flash was still on for some reason. The lens placement in the center of the phone meant that you would take shots of your fingers instead. Youre dont mean the focus-assist lighting? You know, the light that makes your camera able to focus on things it might normally be too dark for it to focus on? Cause thats not flash.
I never take a picture of my fingers. Also, pressing on the screen to take a photo could help you out if you feel its too heavy to hold while using the manual button.
Personally the WP8 experience is on par with the experience I had on my SGS3 with android 4.1.
I like the homescreen far more than on Android, and the way social and email is integrated with the native apps like messaging, contacts, etcetera.
I dont like IE10 as much as Chrome, but thats MOSTLY because of how IE10 handles doubletap to zoom and textwrapping plus certain messageboards. Why no mobile browser besides the microB-browser has had swirlzooming is beyond me.
All in all, the 920 is better for me than the SGS3, and Id choose it over SGS3 any day of the week.

Got a Lumia 920 yesterday for my wife (not a technically savvy person at all!) Once she had her bearings (about 5 minutes navigating around) it took her less than 5 minutes to set up all her e-mails. There was no need to give any credit card information, and the camera is really good in low lights... compared it to my S2. Daylight shots are a little washed out, but READ! a camera firmware patch is coming soon. Tech specs on the camera are really good, and so is the screen... these two and the solid constructions are the reason i opted for this phone. Pretty sure others would agree.
And in conclusion, if it took you over an hour to set up email, it's a good thing you returned this phone. I would highly recommend staying miles away from Android or Windows devices; a Leap-frog or an Apple product would work best for you.

I read a post about how amazing Night mode was. So I played around with the scenes Close Ups, Cloudy, and Night Mode. So often, that stuff is just a gimmick, not on this phone!
I returned my Lumia 900 cause it was hard for me to transition from Android and it was lacking. I gave the 920 and WP8 another chance and never looked backed. It's restricted compared to how you have so much customization you can do on Android, but the 920 is far from being some kind of wash out. The stabilization of the camera is one of the best I've seen. I've take shots compared to my HTC One X and the stability feature is awesome.
Personally I love a heavy set phone. Gives me the feel of sturdiness. I've always liked heavier phone.
The screen in day light is simply the best thing I have ever seen. The way the color tones adjust to bright light is incredible. Even with the top down on my car I can see the screen crystal clear.
The speaker on this thing is SUPER loud. Louder than my Nexus 7. The EQ on this thing absolutely smashes anything my One X Beats Audio could dish out. It's even better than any EQ feature on Android 3rd party apps like Power Amp. When I adjust the EQ it adjust.
It took me minutes to set up my Live, Google, LinkedIn, Yahoo, NetZero, and Hotmail Account. The integration is very nice in how it works together.
I have my quarrels with WP8, but it's super stable and nicely integrated with apps optimized for it's ecosystem.
IMHO WP8 is at the point of what Froyo was for Android. One of those landmark version that will get this OS out in the wild.
Sorry to hear you not like it, I can understand as I been there with the 900, but I can't justify it with the 920. The apps will come, the stability will come, the updates to software will come.
I've actually had the worse upgrade of JB on my Nexus 7 when they fixed the bugs of forgetting to December in the calendar. And to be quite frank my 920 process faster than my One X with the same processor and my Nexus 7. I'll never stop using Android, but I'll never say WP8 sucks. There's no way.
I agree with OP regarding the email client; 1 account is not enought. For the rest i can only say that i setup my phone in 5 minutes with no problems at all. Using my 920 since 2 weeks, coming from an iphone4 and no regrets at all.

Hi I got my Oneplus 2 today, it was purchased from China and imported to India and hence had the color OS, hand to install Oxygen OS as Color OS does not have google on it.
The phone feels heavy, looks great and is quite comfortable to hold
Got my hands of Oxygen OS and just finished installing, one remark on the same unlike other phones where you need to install a custom recovery to file the zip, in Oxygen I could just boot into recovery and install the zip file which is a great thing for the novice users as they will not be required to install custom recovery.
So i installed the OS without any issue took 5 minutes booted up quickly signed up into google and the phone was set up
Observation the phone heated while installing the backup apps which was not heavy use as why installing apps and syncing gmail will send more updates on the heating issue as i start using the phone.
I configured the fingerprint scanner though it takes some time to scan the fingerprint however it unlocks pretty quicky though there is an issue reported by one of the earlier reviewers that it stops working after sometime will update on that as I use the phone
Camera has not been tested so will take some night pictures today and upload them.

My impressions after 2 days: nice feel in the hand, better than my s6. Screen looks washed out coming from Samsung amoled. Fingerprint reader is useless. Apart from the lack of a click which makes the button feel weird, it only works half the time and is always slow. The hardware buttons could be more sensitive. Using the Fingerprint reader as a home key is not great, doesn't always register a touch. On screen works fine. UI feels like stock Android. Missing scheduled do not disturb and not much customisation (no battery icon options etc). Bluetooth and wifi are working without any problems. Wouldn't play an HD movie on Google play, seemed to be lagging but later worked fine. Apart from that, seems snappy. No overheating. Withe general usage, battery life seems very good. Very good. Whilst on paper it falls short in every important specification when compared with the s6 (and the absence of wireless charging is a big thing for me, as is NFC) I must say that I love the phone. Reminds me of my HTC HD2! I am a person who buys the latest flagship every 3 months. I have to confess, I succumbed to the hype with this phone and don't regret it! I got the A2001 version from Oppomart. LTE works fine on Telstra in Sydney.
Edit : I should add that the audio through headphones is very good too. And after using for a few days now, battery life is still impressive.

FYI the finger print reader and capacitive buttons are much more responsive in the latest version of hydrogen os. This adds up as all the reviews I have seen are using newer oxygen os firmware are also reporting minimal issues with the finer print reader. We just have to wait for someone to post the latest firmware.
Ugh. Have the money set aside to buy this phone but can't justify the extra cost if it doesn't work on ATT LTE.
Talk about a tease.

It was a joke. It would be like having the money to buy a hooker and hearing that she has herpes.
I have been using it for the four days now and there are no issues with fingerprint reader the issue is how you place the finger on it once you get that right you will not have an issue
Also a cool feature just scan you finger and the phone will automatically come out of standby mode and unlock no need to press power buttom or double tap
Hey guys. Question here.
In this review from (video in Russian language) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvwFkLTG-Cw
they've mentioned that on high volume the speaker is suffering awful croaking, but they are not sure if they got defective device or is at a software issue for example. Can anyone comment how is the speaker of the phone in terms of loundenss and quality? (the one (or two) in the bottom from which the sound of ringtone comes out.
Thanks in advance

I have had the phone for a few weeks, since the 4th of August. I can tell you that there definitely is an issue. Reviewers have also pointed towards this fact. In some instance the finger print reader refuses to unlock the phone. Using a pin or pattern unlocks the phone. Unlocking after that works again. Some reviewers have also commented that the fingerprint reader stops working till you reboot. I have used the latest version of HydrogenOS, and can confirm that the fingerprint reader is more reliable and the initial configuration asks you to scan the edge of you finger in addition to the normal scans.

No problems for me. I have watched a few youtube videos on it. Ringtones and alerts are loud and clear. Sound only comes out the right speaker holes. One thing that is annoying is the equaliser software. If you turn it off the sound from the speaker is completely flat and very quiet. If you turn it on the sound is too loud at low volumes, but quality is much improved. You can play with the equaliser settings to improve this and strike a balance, but I would imagine the defaults will be fixed in future OTA updates.
I have not used Hydrogen OS uninstalled it as soon as I got my phone however i can confirm there is no such issue in Oxygen OS yes i did scan my finger print in Hydrogen OS when I got it and it has a very different UI to that of Oxygen I guess Oxygen uses Google API and UI's however Hydrogen has a custom built UI dont know what is in the backend
And in that i think lies the issue

My initial impressions of the Oneplus 2
It's Here!
Finally, I have it. The Oneplus 2 was delivered to me on Friday (didn't actually got my hands on it until Sunday).
Bought the device officially from Oneplus on wednesday and they shipped it on Thursday so that was fast! And thanks to DHL of course for the speedy delivery.
I have now used the device for a day and here are my few impressions of it. I will do a larger review later on.
What's in the box
The box is very nice (picture at the end). In the box you find:
The phone (it has a screenprotector installed at the factory)
Power Brick
USB-C cable (the power brick/USB end is also reversible)
Basic use guide etc
So again no headphones. Many have questioned why, but you have to remember the price point of the device and providing headphones would increase the price and knowing Onelus, they don't want to provide some ****ty "samsung like" headphones just because headphones
Build quality and feel
The device feels superb on hand when first lifted from the box. The phone feels really sturdy thanks to the metal edges (like in Galaxy S6 and other premium phones). The device is heavier than it's predecessor.
Build quality is not a problem on this phone. The new StyleSwap covers are now easy to take off and install (pretty much the same as for example on Note series backplates) and there is a hole in the bottom for easy uninstall. I bought the Kevlar and Black Apricot StyleSwaps with the phone and the hard part is to decide which one to use. I am starting to like the Black Apricot one better.
Software
So no more Cyanogen but is this a bad thing? Hard to say really at the moment, also my opinion might be little biased as I pretty much hate anything coming from CM.
So as said the phone comes with Oneplus inhouse ROM called OxygenOS which has now a matured to 2.0 stage.
As I have had the phone just a under 24hours I won't be saying much of the OxygenOS yet, but I have to say that at this stage I would expect more. The ROM is pretty basic vanilla Android with few tweaks like Dual Sim support (more on this little later) and a Dark UI mode etc.
Coming from a custom rom / CyanogenOS world this a step backwards if you like customization features. Oneplus has said that there will be an OTA update soon to bringing more stuff and fixes, so we will see.
Haven't found any big bugs yet but the camera app is also pretty basic and doesn't have lot of options. But I haven't used the camera much so I won't judge it yet
Snapdragon 810 - hot or not
I tested the "boiling/overheating" with a little gaming session (nothing fancy or really heavy) with few small games (i don't usually play games on my phone).
The phone heats from the topside but for me it's nothing to get worried about. I have seen samekind of heating with the S6 and other phones. But I will need to test longer and heavier games.
I haven't run any benchmarks and don't think I even will as they don't show the "real world usage".
Unique features
Oneplus 2 comes with few unique features that are not very common in flagship phones. I will go through few of them here.
Dual sim
Oneplus 2 supports Dual Sim configuration which is pretty big thing nowadays. Ok, it's a feature that many propably won't need all the time but it actually is a great feature. I haven't had a dual sim phone before so I was pretty eager to see if it would have any value to me.
The phone uses Dual Sim Dual Standby mode (DSDS) and you can configure which sim is used for different tasks (mobile data, texts and phone calls). Text and phone call options can be configured so that the phone asks which sim will be used when you make a call or send a text.
I have configured that texts and calls are from the SIM1 (my main sim) and mobile data comes from SIM2 as my main sim has a sloooow mobile data so i will use my unlimeted 4G data sim for the mobile data.
As I mentioned the dual standby mode that the phone uses means that if my SIM2 is using mobile data and I get a call to the SIM1 number the mobile data connection will be disconnected until i disconnect the call / reject it. Both sims can receive call but when there is a call coming to either on the other one will be "dead". So if you are on phone call thrue your SIM1 and someone tries to call you to SIM2 number he will get a message that the number can't be reached / call will be transferred to voicemail.
I think I am going to enjoy this feature as it gives me more room and will be good when travelling.
Fingerprint reader
Yes, Oneplus 2 has a fingerprint reader. Oneplus #hyped the feature a lot and even said that it will be better and faster than the one on the iPhone.
Well, I have to be honest here. It's not. The reader is pretty good reading the fingerprint but it isn't as good or fast than the counterpart. Few times the phone hasn't recognized my fingers at all and sometimes the home button (reader is integrated to the capacitive button) just doesn't react to the finger at all.
There is also a setting that allows you top wake the screen and unlock it by just putting your finger to the scanner (like in few Huawei phones etc). This feature also works pretty well but sometimes the phone doesn't wakeup when you put your finger on the scanner.
There should be a OTA coming what should fix these things so let's hope it comes soon.
Conclusion
So the initial impression? Brilliant device with few quirks and pretty basic software. The software part is the part which needs to come better and it should come soon. For me...well let's just say that I will wait for the custom rom developers to bring their magic on this phone.
Oh, almost forgot. THERE IS NO NFC on this phone and there never will be. I don't actually need it and when NFC is actually really really useful here (hint: android pay) we will have the Oneplus 3 or even 4 already.
All in all, at the moment I am really impressed by the phone and hardware, but I want to see lot of improvement on the software side.
Few pictures attached too

Honor 7 - Not the phone for you if you take photos

Damn my phone! Using the camera is a joke. I want to save my images to the SD card as I bought a memory card for it as I shoot lots of images and I don't want to max the phone storage out. Forever it will take a photo and you think all is good but then when you go to the gallery there is a grey square instead of the image. Clicking it grey square brings up a dialogue box saying there is no thumbnail. Trying to use it via Flickr upload, Facebook etc says the image is corrupt and can't be used.
Now, it's only the images taken with the camera that is the issue. Whatapp album, downloaded images album, Flickr download folder are all fine, the issue is just images I take with the phone?
So annoyed. Wish I had not cut a corner and bought the Samsung instead.

I'm perfectly happy with H7 camera, can save pics to SD, quality is good..

No one made you read my post and no one made you comment so if you don't like it then close the door behind you as I am entitled to my opinion and to voice it. Plus you say talk for yourself. How do you know I am? For all you know it could be an issue that most people are facing?
Today I was baking with my 3 kids, something that I don't get the time to do and thought it would be a nice bonding thing to do with them - father and children. Not wanting to ruin the moment and go for the DSLR I used my phone. All the images that I took, that was about 15 or so of each child mixing their ingredients, preparing the cakes, getting them ready for the oven, capturing their beaming smiles (which with my twin 4 year old boys is no mean feat), and then for all of them circa 45 or so images so all be ruined and not one recorded properly just sucked so excuse me if I vent a little steam.

Again, this is just hearsay
Getting back on track, looking at the image files on a PC, not one gives me the option to view, they can't be opened and again there is no thumbnail. Looking at the EXIF data and none is recorded. Trying to import one into Photoshop and it says "could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete."
Now in the past I faced this issue with the camera (this phone) and I would go straight to Flickr and upload the image before it went mental and stopped playing ball with the image so at least I had a copy. Then I would then download it back down from Flickr and that image file would be fine, unlike the original that would do dolaly.
Please feel free to keep arguing with me if you like, we're both entitled to our own opinions but its kinda pointless as it doesn't solve anything
Did You cry long after my last post ?
How do I know You speak for everybody?
Look at title of your thread: using statement like 'for you' clearly says, that you try implement your opinion on someone else, possibly make some people not to buy this decent phone.
Could be an issue most people are facing ?
Well, nope. After this long after premiere of this phone there would be houndreds of posts about it. There isn't.
Tried to bond with the kids and camera didn't obey ?
Sad story. So sad that your life is rubbish if You don't have enough time for your kids. Maybe change of life style ?
Money isn't everything.
Feel free to argue ?
Yet again you say to someone what he can do or not? Déjà vu of your thread title.
Thank You for bit of entertaiment That would be my last post in this thread as you are clearly to touchy to continiue. Don't wanna make you cry again
Yet ' feel free to argue ' , others would have some fun reading it too i belive.
Sorry for all inconvinience I made to You
Let's try and be constructive. I'm not having this problem either. Try a faster sd card. Class 10 are the fastest, I have a samsung class 6. Also turn down resolution (here I use 8M, who need 5000x3000 resolution?) Because it affects file size.
I'm not having this problem, I save to sd card and thumbnails are created and all camera images are viewable in the gallery and editable when transferred to pc. You have a problem specific to your phone/sd card.
Can you see thumbnails when you save to internal memory?
I bet it's something with sd card. Try another one. Never had problems with camera app and photos. Please look also if you enabled to save location with photo - perhaps it can't get the position and that's why it don't save them correct ( just a try to find the error)
Good luck
I disagree. I love the camera on the H7.
Paired with Google's Snapseed, I get some pretty good photos.
Also, I have no issues with SD cards and saving photos onto them.
I'd tend to agree with the original poster, in day to day use the camera is more often bad than good.
There is a huge delay when taking the photo, and most annoyingly what gets saved is different than the image that flashes on the screen when you press the shutter! What gets saved is often out of focus and with motion blur.
I find the camera very disappointing for all but well lit rock-steady slow shots.
Sent from my PLK-L01 using Tapatalk
I never have the issues mentioned by the OP, like mentioned I would hazard a guess at the SD card being at fault here. Overall I'm happy with he camera performance.
The only thing I would have liked is image stabilisation as I have quite shaky hands but I will just have to try and use both hands and lean against something for support where I can I guess.
im also pleasantly suprised by the camera. its nice n snappy and takes good photos. I dont have the issues mentioned in the OP>
Maybe a bad sd card??

I had similar problems when using Snap Camera & photo quality 100% & save to SD Card, With stock camera I never had any problem. So it is definitely a problem of write speed of SD card. Try another one with higher "Class" and pictures will be ok.
I've had none of the issues op is referring to. However i've had issues with phone crashing after taking full hd video. However it is a separate matter and belongs in a different thread.

Im too happy with the camera of Honor 7. The issue mentioned here might be bcos of SD card low speed (or) higher RAM utilization.
EMUI should really fix all the RAM management issues.
