Hello, ever since I installed Android Pie on my V30 I've been having quite big delays when doing trivial things system-related.
For example it happens a lot that after I let my phone sit for a while it sometimes takes up to 3 seconds to load the recent apps view after I press the button...
I also get weird delays when using the settings app, every thing I click has such a delay that the click animation has time to finish.
Now this may seem normal, but it definitely isn't, I didn't have it on Oreo, I don't have it on my Zenfone 3, and it saddens me that my old phone can be snappier than my new phone, makes it feel very wrong.
I will post a video so you can see what I mean, hopefully someone knows how to fix this, because it makes me want a custom ROM really badly, but I don't want to lose my 2 years of warranty when I know this phone can have issues with things like burn-in.
Video
It seems very mild in the video, but it's sometimes embarrassing using the phone with friends when it lags out a LOT...
Have you done anything at all with it? Wiped cache? Factory reset?

I haven't done a factory reset, I could do it, but I would have to be sure it's an issue with my android and not everyone's.
I have quite a bit of data on my phone, so factory resetting to find out if it's my issue is not my thing...
About cache... what cache?
Well, as mentioned above you can factory reset, or you can also take a backup with lg bridge, just a back up, it has already been reported that it fixes the lag you're experiencing, and lastly you can reset apps preference in settings, which also fixes the lag
Try holding power and volume down until it restarts
Cache clear: use Files by Google.

I had exactly the same issues when I updated to Pie without wiping data a few weeks ago. Did a factory reset and reflashed Pie again, which mostly solved my issues. On occasion there is a choppy animation here or there, but I think that's just because LG hasn't perfected Pie on the V30... Setting animation speed to 0.5 in dev options makes it less noticable.
(I'm rooted though so factory resets are not a big hassle for me)
And what's weird, since Pie my phone is smoother when running 1440p instead of 1080p. What?
So I factory reset my phone like you guys said, and it did fix some things, like the notifications not stacking properly and the Pie navigation gestures work better now, but my issue is still there, the delays are still there...

This is odd, that should not be happing. Can you list the steps on how you upgrade to Pie?
Also no need for a custom ROM. This device is fast. Are you rooted and flashed a zip? Pure stock?

yeah, it's like it unloads the recent tasks view and every time I call it, it has to load back up... I can't even double-tap the recent apps button to switch app properly because of the delays.
LG's software is so bad man, it makes such good hardware feel horrible...
I read somewhere that manually closing all open apps (not with the clear all button, but manually swiping) can help too.
Have you played around with the battery/power settings at all?

Like what? I didn't touch them yet, it shouldn't have any restrictions.
Yes there's a big delay when opening recents, but only if the 3 button nav bar layout is active. If the "gesture" nav bar is active, there's no issue.

I know your first post you made it clear about root and warranty. You don't have to worry about any of that since you can unroot and relock the bootloader.
Have you tried a factory reset? Sorry if you mention that already and I missed it. I've also seen people say to do a LG Bridge backup. Somehow it resets a few settings and the device returns to normal.

It's very odd how I see some users have issues while others don't. As an example, I did a clean flash to pie and I had to do it multiple times because it wouldn't flash correctly. Others flashed ok on the first try. Some people dirty flashed and the device ran good while some has issues.

It's not THAT bad, it was way worse back on v30b, but it's still here. Did a clean flash.

Don't wipe your user data and all your settings will stay. I did however wiped the cache and Dalvik.
I had some widgets that lost link and I had to replace them but overall settings and apps will stay. You need to flash the gapps since some of the apps were gone when I flashed. Use the Gapps V10 that is floating around.
install via acmeinstaller2 and everything will be the same. It's better than cwm and recommended by dalingrin

I installed via CWM and so far so good.
The only thing I noticed is that I had to still replace the SU app with the one that was patched to fix the crashes.
Ah, the joys of upgrading... unfortunately this upgrade has made the wonderful Autodesk Sketchbook app worse
Much more difficult to draw smooth brushstrokes now.Assuming it has something to do with the touchscreen fix?

In my case there also seems to be a higher frequency of "double taps", ie. that some keypresses are registered twice during rapid typing.
Is there a thread with what is "Working" vs "Not Working" ?
Have a TP but don't want to switch till there is a stable enough release. I know know you are all going to say, then wait for it to come out of Alpha. I only want to keep track of what is going on, kinda hard to deduce things by just reading random people experiences.

In my case, a good couple of times, instead of scrolling, the input is registered as simple touch. It is very annoying when you are in a list and just want to scroll... instead it enters one of the elements from that list. Very very annoying. Am I the only one to notice this? Because the touch input was working very well before the 'fix' in A0.5...
I have also noticed a lot more sensitivity when scrolling -a lot more unwanted clicking on stuff. Still, for an alpha this is excellent.

That's not the point. The point is that in Alpha0 the touch input was perfect. Now it isn't.
Yes I have also noticed that. For example, when using Google Books, flicking a page usually flicks three or four at a time. It is WAY too sensitive now when in Alpha 0 it was perfect.

u mad, bro?
Hi, I've had the M8 for 4 months now and can't help but notice how buttery smooth it is on reports from other people, but mine is just plagued with performance issues. I don't have any CPU intensive apps running in the background or anything and sometimes when I try to turn the screen on, it vibrates as if it turned on but nothing, this can go on for 30 secs or more until it finally turns on.
Another example is app switching. I can be on SMS app and switching to chrome can just freeze my phone for upwards of 15 seconds, pressing lock button doesn't work either when it's frozen like this, and if it does work, then the above happens.
This happens everyday, no matter what I'm doing. I have even tried setting High Performance in developer options, but the only change it does is use more battery.
Also, I noticed that opening the Camera app takes time as well, so it's impossible to capture those one of a kind moments because I have to wait 10+ seconds for the camera app to be useful.
I have 10+GB of free space.
Is the phone stock, not modded, rooted, bootloader unlocked, etc.?
Something is definitely not right. Have you tried to backup your personal data, and doing a factory reset?
Or see if the problem persists in safe mode? To boot in safe mode, reboot, and while the white boot screen is showing, hold down the vol down rocker until the phone shows the home or lock screen with SAFE MODE i the lower left corner. This will boot the phone with no 3rd party apps, so you can't try to reproduce the Chrome issue you mentioned. But you can at least check the screen-on issue. If the phone seems okay in safe mode, you may have a 3rd party app that is causing issues.
Either you have some sort of software or hardware issue, cause the issue you mentioned are certainly not normal for this phone.
+1 to above.
What launcher are you using?
The phone is completely stock. I haven't tried the factory reset or safe mode. What main items do I need to backup before a factory reset?

Depends on what you want to keep, and where its stored. If its going to freak you out to loose it, then back it up.
Photos and videos you took are a must. Either move them to the SD (if not already) or backup on computer. And if on SD, I'd still back them up on your computer or to the cloud, anyway (just in case).
Similarly, any documents or other items that are not easily replaceable. The internal storage (virtual SD) should survive a factory reset. But if its important, I'd back it up on your computer anyway.
If you keep your contacts on Gmail (which I recommend) then that is already saved to the cloud (will auto sync back to the phone after you factory reset). If you have contacts, email, etc. that is not on Gmail, you might want to back those up. Its really up to you.
If you have a lot of app data and other stuff you want to keep, you can try Helium: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup

I would definitely try a factory reset first, as that is probably the first thing they will do at the store if you take it there, anyway.
But if factory reset doesn't work, it may be a hardware issue and a warranty replacement if recommended. But since its 4 months old, OP can't take it back to the store. OP has to go through warranty exchange by mail, or to a Device Support Center (if one is nearby). You can only do exchanges in-store within the first 14 days.
Has this happend since day one? I agree, you either have an app that's acting crazy or an actual HW issue. I'd try the factory reset.
BTW - Where are the developer options on the United Stated AT&T variant? I have not found them.
I tried the factory reset and it's working fine for now. I'm going to be selectively installing back the apps as I need them so I don't end up with a rogue app again.
The only things I had changed were the runtime from Dalvik to ART. I also had only 1 app running in the background (CleanMaster) and was using Sense 6.0 launcher or Nova.
I'm going to keep it in Dalvik and not install that app and see how it goes.
Thanks for your responses.
PS: theandies, to unlock the developer options go to About -> Software Information -> More -> and click about 7 times on the build number.

I had the same issue. Once I switch back to DALVIK from ART my issues were corrected.
Hi,
Hopefully I am writing in the correct place about my issue.
I have the Xperia Z2, rooted, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery.
I flashed the Unofficial PAC ROM by "rcstar6696" and it works fine with tons of features, my problem is that the phone would not lock securely.
I tried to use PIN, Pattern, Gesture locks and they all do not function, the phone will still unlock with slide.
I tried to reset the phone, same thing. I looked all over the forums and could not find anything about this with Z2.
My friend owns a Nexus 5 and I rooted and flashed PAC ROM onto his phone and the Pattern lock works like a charm.
Is anyone facing the same issue? Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks.
EDIT: I have flashed the latest version from 20th of September cleanly and still facing the same issue.
EDIT: after a few resets and wipes, I noticed that when installing/uninstalling apps. The lock chosen works for a limited time (Usually 6 hours) and then stops randomly.
I am still trying to identify if it's an app causing this.
EDIT: ISSUE SOLVED !!
I reset the device one more time with a clean boot, then while setting it up, I did not connect to my google account. I skipped most of the steps, then set the lock screen, rebooted, added my google account manually.
and VOILA ! phone securely locked.
I do not know how my google account caused this, but it seems to be the reason at the moment.

Xposed would cause it, or any mods or tweeaks because pac is framework sensitive which means even simple mods can cause huge issues

Yes of course, but I just flashed it cleanly and no apps whatsoever (except GApps & Stock) , and still the issue is the same.
I even did not change any of the ROM built-in settings and still, no secure locking.
Oh and trust me, PAC ROM is amazing (if it wasn't for this issue) , made me hate every minute I spent in CM and TouchWiz (on my old S4) :good:
Did you do a complete wipe? I wiped all partitions including media before installing pac.
And yes pac is excellent and perfectly stable, only issues I have is nav bar dpi seems to reset after every reboot, but if I toggle say screen timeout via quick settings it changed to what it should be and active display reboots my phone but I don't use it anyway

I'm not sure how to do that, however, I managed to solve it.
And I am facing the same with nav bar and the PACperformance app, it just doesn't stick after reboot.
EDIT: actually, I just tried a few reboots, the nav bar seems to be fine to me, I did however change the icons via "Android L Navigation Bar" found in the xposed downloads. Maybe that caused it to "stick"?
as for the active display, I would like to use it, but I am a pixel maniac, and that feature isn't FHD yet I guess, so I am not using it either for the moment.

From what I noticed, the navigation bar can be set black with a black theme, however, it still becomes white in certain apps (eg. Chrome).
I didn't see a way to make it black universally.

there are so many apps (like home banking) that are linked to the phone and cannot be backed up... I try to avoid that. But I guess it is time to switch to Samsung S10 soon was hoping to wait a little longer till the prices go down.....

Well, the battery drain is just another reason to factory reset and it's kinda ironic that you'll have to set your new phone anyway.I told you to factory reset because I solved a lot of problems on my phones through the years after major updates. It's not mandatory but very advisable. At the end it's your phone and your will to do it and set it again.

it is probably what I have to d. but it sure makes it easier to move away from a 15 month old phone.... I just didn't expect LG pushing me away. I was loyal for some time, and I really think this is one of the most beautiful phones of its time; but it sure does not perform well (anymore).
is there any "small" cache reset that will not delete everything?
in case it is interesting for someone:
Last SOT test from a few days ago (before the update) was 4:45 with normal use, mostly indoors, which is not great, but good enough, since I use my phone alot and sometimes charge 2-3 times a day.
will try a regular test with pie in a few days, but I am too busy to have it under similar conditions...

a clean install is actually difficult; (as well as to switching to other brand phones)
- my messaging apps loose all there messages (some have manual backup)
- banking apps loose there unique keys -> need to be reauthorized with the bank
- two factor auth apps need to carefully be restored
...
of course if you have a few plain games that are cloud synced, this does not matter; but if you actually use the phone it is not so easy to restore all data; (especially ensuring that nothing of importance gets lost)
I will go as far as wipe cache partition i/o factory reset. Every phone has it flaws at some point.
sure.
its just bad that there is not a streamlined backup method; LGs "mobile switch" is a mess, and gets stuck regularly on messaging apps with many files(?)
best results with preinstalled apps was actually with Huawei/honor; they seem to work quite well (but I don't like there aggressive power management)
I don't like to reset a phone before I have everything setup in a different phone (2 factor etc...) because I would hate to loose data and money.
so now I either get a cheap crap phone; or another LGV30 (cheap as hell at the moment, but getting old), or a new samsung, which I didn't plan on before autumn and new phones released....

I had the same struggles you have.
Ultimately I had to give up and switch back to Android Messenger. It backs up all messages. For 2-factor authentication I use Authy so it can restore my codes from the cloud. But you are correct, I use Android on my Chromebook and setup a 2nd two factor method (email) in my accounts before I reset my phone. I'm annoyed by games, I had to restart so many already even though Google Play Games promises to save the progress. Hope you find another way.

This is pretty much mandatory on any device. When flashing a new OS zip in TWRP, it's always a clean install. 7-8 and 8-9.
Even if not rooted and take an OTA, you either have to let the update settle or just factory reset. I've seen MANY people throughout the years on XDA complain about the newest OS version.
The general reply will always be factory reset.

You are very misinformed here. 2factor will just send you a text. If you are that worried, turn it off till you setup the device again.

I have severa websites that are set up to use 2 factor authentification. If I delete the app before I remove 2factor on those sites or set it up new, I am looked out.
If I loose the key to interpret the text correctly I am ****ed
Where am I misinformed? elaborate
I noticed that the PIE update fixed issues with the camera; that pictures would not get saved, when closing the app (too fast) after taking a picture.

And we told you to stop doing that. The fix for that was to leave the camera open in the background, until the camera finished its process.

You were taking a picture and immediately force closing the camera before the HDR function could finish.
You also complained about the January update to AOD.

You are misinformed because pretend this is a new phone you are setting up.
How would you go about that? You would use the same two factor authentication on the new phone. You can't say two factor authentication wouldn't work on new phone or nobody could ever get a new phone...
Plus, there are SMS Backup and restore apps. WhatsApp has cloud backup if you turn it on Many messaging apps like Hangouts sync across different devices.
If you're rooted, there's TWRP and Titanium Backup -- where you can restore data to ALL apps.

Hi,
this update (V30 to pie, recieved today) just destroyed all of my home screen configurations (folders, arrangements, widgets, links to websites) -> really annoying.

1) I use Nova launcher and periodically export configuration backups to Gmail or Google Drive. You can also store them on your device, like microSD card. At any point in time, on this phone or another, then you can download and restore those home screens/desktops. I have 5 screens with apps arranged by most use (home screen), spreading out then by categories.
2) A little too late now, but Google also makes backups of your home screen configuration and when you Factory Reset your phone or buy a new phone, and you first sign in, Google will ask if you wish to restore that most recent configuration remembered from your most recent device. However, by this point in time, Google has now backed up the "new" Pie configuration you do not want. This is why you should have factory reset at the very beginning.
So... No one mentioned LG backup here? I find it suprisingly good

I just installed an update from tmobile something about bug fixes and security . Sorry was to busy to write down the details but hope it fixes the phantom touches..
UPDATE 2: Oh no, it actually made the phantom touches worse, now instead of just the top section where you have the camera droop the thumb coordinates would trigger buttons on that spot, but now with the update, according to the touch sensors from developer options it shows the left and right touch coordinates will trigger even more around the screen. I think it just broke this phone.
Can anyone pls confirm this. The update has made the phantom touches worse and now my phone is unusable to play games because it always triggers buttons I don't touch when I make certain movements playing the games or apps

I have the TMobile version and have no issues with phantom touches. I would try a factory reset without restoring any data if I were you.

Dude that's so crazy maybe you should try a factory reset without restoring data too. Rcs is fully working for me out of nowhere again. It started working again yesterday before I received the update.

Thanks, I tried. Even had the phone replaced. T-Mobile thinks it might be the provisioning on my account, but I don't buy it since Google messages works. But I'm stumped, I can't even send a simple meme to someone on the stock app. I just says sending forever and never goes. I've tried wifi, 5g, 4g, resetting apn settings etc... Craziest dam thing
The feedback touching vibration is better now

Please enable developer options and then enable the two options, show touches and show touch data. On my V60 when I hold the phone horizontally as if to game using my left and right thumbs the touch data will show lines intersecting for each thumb press and the coordinates where the lines touch will show a circle indicating that point will trigger any onscreen button that it will touch. Can you pls try this, so I can see if I have a defective V60. Thanks

I get errors with screenshots that say can't send, then I retry and am presented with 2 options, retry with original size or send as MMS. The photos always go thru when I choose MMS. However, I have an issue with stock as well. Can't attach a gif, only sends a link, and no notification in AA unless it's a short code message. I'm getting real tired of having to switch to 3rd party to do those 2 things and then back again to see typing and delivery indicators and faster photo sharing.

You can use Google messages and get the RCS experience without switching back and forth. I would just prefer to use the stock app if it would work

The stock app is definitely much nicer then it used to be. I very much prefer it over Android messages when/if it's working. Thankfully like I said it just happened to start working for me again. Maybe it's just TMobile and google ironing out all the kinks who knows.

What's your favorite function or 2 of the stock app vs. Google Messenger?

I know the question wasn't aimed at me, but I like the ability to pin certain conversation to the top, schedule messages, and it just looks much nicer in my opinion

Those are two great options Google doesn't have. I use a scheduling app which is a nice work around.

Also google messages seems to be a pretty major battery drain at least it was for me in the past. Not sure if it is anymore.
I really wish they had a changelog for this update... Two of my main issues are the speakerphone phone calls cutting off and the auto brightness

Nope, auto brightness is still broken
So far for me speakerphone seems to be fixed, haven't tested auto brightness to see if anything has changed.
