Chinese Verizon s6e+(sm-g928v) with different firmware(of (sm-g928f))? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

I know this phone is very old at this point. But my mom has been using this Verizon s6e+ that was bought from china (not from a official retail store) and it works on other operators! In fact, the phone itself doesn't recognize that it is a Verizon model. The about phone section says that the model number is SM-G928F, so I believed it had a ported firmware(!) and didn't give much thought into it. I didn't know Verizon phones are extra secured until 2 days ago. She upgraded to a s9+ and so I started searching for roms for this phone. I found a TWRP for the sm-928f, and tried to flash it with Odin, but that's when I git confused - the phone still has a locked bootloader. In Odin Download mode, it even says the phone model is SM-G928V.
As far as my understanding goes, it means that the Chinese folks have managed to bypass the Verizon lock, kept the bootloader intact, and installed a unlocked international firmware?
I came here to find someone more experienced on these to work on this case, i can confirm the following:
- Factory reset from phone settings reverts the phone to a new g928f; haven't tried wiping from recovery.
- most of Samsung/Verizon bloats are uninstallable just normally, but they appear again after a factory reset.
- the phone is stuck at Android 6.0.1 with TouchWiz and tapping software update from settings does nothing
Any devs interested in this case? Can this device potentially give us the solution to rooting Verizon phones?

A couple of questions

Hello, I just recently got an Atrix off of ebay. I want to get into playing witih android phones. I've already read numerous threads, got the android sdk, rsd lite, etc.. I've been reading about flashing, and to be careful of what you flash based on what firmware versions are already on the phone.
The problem I have is the phone is subsidy locked, but it's locked in a way that not even AT&T sims work. It always asks for the pin, and the code AT&T gave me (they stated it was the subsidy unlock code) fails. So I looked at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356121
However, I have no idea what's on this phone. I can't access any settings menu in the phone, as it sticks to the "Emergency Calls Only" screen. i don't know what firmware is on the phone, what radio is on it, etc.. I don't want to try to flash a radio file and have it brick my phone. I've read quite a bit this past hour, but I'm at a crossroads here and don't know what to do to figure out what is exactly on this phone. If I knew what I had exactly, I'd be a lot more confident in flashing things.
I do know the bootloader is unlocked (the phone boots saying "Unlocked"). That's all I know :\
EDIT: Disregard. It took me another 6 hours but I finally got everything figured out (had to boot it with no sim to view things, then from there I got into it all). Rooted, CWM, flashed the bell radio and my sim works for now. Thanks for the valuable info that's listed here!
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks!
hey,
I do have the atrix which is netwoek subsidy locked.
I even cant use at&t. I am outside us currently.
Could you tell me how did you flashed bell radio & where u got that.
Thanks

OEM Unlocking

I bought a new LTE Galaxy Tab a few days ago (Hong Kong region) and after a couple of days days of using it, the S-Pen and screen started becoming completely unresponsive. I had configured some basic things on the Tablet, activated Developer Options and installed some apps, but I didn't have tine to get TWRP or root before it broke down. After taking it to Samsung and getting it back repaired 2 days later, they told me they had to replace the whole screen and also the pen. Somehow I had the feeling they simply gave me a new unit. Fine to me..
So today, getting myself ready to install TWRP and rooting it, to my disbelief, the OEM UNLOCKING option in Developer Options is gone! It was absolutely there before I took it to Samsung for repair. This means what? Did they exchange my original purchased tablet with one that actually has a locked bootloader? Or can I still install TWRP and root as before, or what exactly is this? Im pretty upset and confused.
Thanks a lot in advance for any insight on this
If it's the LTE version, it would have an IMEI number, no? Check the IMEI on the Tab with the one on the box, (assuming you didn't also give them the box) it will tell you if they've switched them.
I could be wrong, so you may want to wait for further confirmation, but if OEM unlock is not present, it should mean the bootloader is unlocked by default. Try flashing TWRP with Odin, if the bootloader is locked, it will just fail. Again, I'm no expert, just speaking from my experience, when I first flashed TWRP to my Tab S6, I forgot to unlock the bootloader, flash just failed with no negative effect.

Thanks for the reply. I try flashing it and failed. And I did give them box.. my bad I guess and of court I didn't write down the IMEI number somewhere before I handed them the package. How could I have known? I am almost sure they have me a whole new system even because the USB charging cable was wrapped again like when I first unboxed it. It looked 100% a new unit in the box, minus the detail safety seals that were already broken is there repair clerk handed me the new tablet. Plus, it they had simply swapped the stylist and replaced the screen, I would not see a reason for them to have completely reset the unit to the point of the default language being again Chinese instead of English (as all TGY variants are here by default) along with all the apps that I had installed, all of which were gone as well. there's positively no need to completely wipe out and reset the unit simply because they replaced the screen. Plus, locally thinking, being just a couple days old, I'm sure they didn't want to bother for possibly a long time repair turnaround for me and gave me a new one.
That the OEM UNLOCK toggle was there originally is a given because I was just about getting ready to Flash recovery and root it and had specially gone into Developer Options and toggled it along with the USB Debugging Switch. All Samsung phones and tablets in this region have unlocked bootloaders by the default. This is one of the reasons I keep coming back to Samsung because with other brands you either can't do it or it's a nightmare to get it done. Of course, good thing I did not Flashed recovery and root before the Tablet crapped on me because of course I would have voided the warranty. Also, now it's not like I can go back to Samsung and complain about the OEM UNLOCK issue because obviously no one is supposed to be rooting the devices or asking for help on the matter.
I'll do some more research on this and if I can unlock it.. hopefully. If not I will sell it and buy another one retail again. I'm super bummed.
Thanks again for the reply.

Question About My Samsung Galaxy S9+

I purchased this phone today. It is network unlocked.. It was on T-Mobile, and now on Sprint.. What I find funny, when the phone was first turned on, up came the T-Mobile Splash screen. Then when I installed my sim card for Sprint, and had it activated, up came the Sprint Splash screen, and all of it's bloat glory.. I did get a great deal as it was new and perfect condition and it only cost me $288 with box accessories etc..
Under dev options, I do not see anything for OEM unlock so I can install either custom roms or debloat this phone of what I do not need.. Model number is SM-G965U. From what I gather that is not a valid Sprint Model number nor T-mobile.. I'm wondering if this was a factory unlocked version, first set to T-mobile, then Sprint when I activated it today.. Total call on this phone was Zero and very little data use..

They are multi carrier. Everytime a new sim is inserted it personalizes for a new carrier. All the us models are the same hardware. There is no OEM unlock. No custom roms locked bootloader permanently. you can root 8.0 only no 9 no 10. Look up extreme syndicate down in the snap dragon section. Please note your model is a g950u or g965u. Not to be confused with the g9600 or g9650 which are snapdragon but of other countries with unlocked bootloader. Cannot be interchanged.

So I assume, that since it is network unlocked, and all the bloat is based off of each carrier.. Will a factory reset get rid of it all. Or do I have to go the adb route? I have no issue with it, but can not stand all the bloat I have always tried to stay away from.. And if you look at it.. It basically is no different than a carrier branded phone.. Once you pay off it, you and have the UICC unlocked, like this phone already is. Put if I had bought a international version, I'm sure it would never have worked here in the US...

You can either root 8.0 to debloat or adb to disable it. Factory reset wont get rid of none of it. The International version o believe supports every carrier except sprint dont have the proper bands. I'm pretty sure it can do verizon. You also have the option of flashing the us U1 firmware which is us unlocked version with no carrier bloat but it still has locked bootloader.
How come when using adb, and I type adb devices it come back with a series of numbers, and then says unauthorized.. I have used in the past and was very simple.. USB debugging it enabled.
Forget it. I figured it out. And debloated this thing just like I want.

Even thought he bootloader is locked, at least the bloat is gone semi.. If I need it back ( will not) I can just do a factory reset. LOL Time to install youtube vanced.
Question cpu z says I have a Snapdragon845. To bad it would have been nice to tweak it, if the bootloader was unlockable.

Issue with unlocking - Please help

Hello,
I have an SM-N950U from TMB which was purchased direct from Samsung when it was just launched after the whole debacle of the Note 7.
Phone has been working fine on TMB this whole time. Today I switched to VZW and attempting to have the phone unlocked.
I tried to use the Device Unlock app on the phone, with no luck. It fails when I try to Permanently Unlock the phone.
I called TMB for assistance, they said that the manager has tried to process it manually and has been unable to do so after multiple attempts. Escalated to higher support who got on the phone and said she's unable to help and does not know why it is not working. Said she will be escalating to a higher support group, but as of yet, nothing from anyone.
Is there any way of unlocking this phone without TMB?
I've attempted to flash VZW via ODIN, both U and U1, with no luck. I also tried the U1 XAA and still the same thing, I get a message "Network locked SIM card inserted".
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am at a total loss and want to continue using this phone as I've been, just with VZW now.
Side note, maybe it's failing because the phone is already unlocked, just doesnt work with VZW? Not sure if thats a possibility, but is there any way to check to see if the phone is in fact unlocked or not?
Anyone?

an newbie need your advice and help!

hi all,
I have Samsung SM-G935W8 (in Canada), bought used from someone. recently, try to play with android, and realized the phone PDA was G935UUEU4BRD1, and model was SM-G935U which is different from the model that showing on back cover. think the guy flashed a different rom for this phone.
couple days ago, I did hard factory reset for no reason, and get google account locked. then search online and learning how to fix it. seems like need to flash combination rom --> use tool bypass frp --> flash official rom to solve this issues.
i downloaded many combination firmware and all failed on odin flash. until i use one that allowed me to flash and success to open the phone as Factory Binary. But, I noticed the phone model changed to SM-G935A, which is AT&T firmware. the android version is 6.0.1, when I try to run program to do FRP bypass, no luck, think that because I can't turn on OEM- Unlock option(can't find it on developer option tough)? or bootloader locked?
now, I can only flash official rom that from AT&T, and android 8 that I can find it. if the phone can be fixed FRP issues, model change to G935A is fine, I dont care that model, I dont use the phone for call, only for wifi and camera. and maybe later can play flash to other model of ROM. not sure if possible.
current, the working combination rom I flashed is PDA : G935UUCUBATA1
ADB FRP to bypass FRP (not working)
and flashed to AT&T rom PDA: G935AUCUBCTB1_G935AATTBCTB1_8.0.0
FRP still not bypassed, and stuck on google account validation screen. any advice how and what tools can bypass FRP for this phone now model is SM-G935A? thanks in advance!
