Hi All,
I'm Damaris, a professional phone case designer. Now i'm working on ROG 2 phone case design, and like to hear your voice about how to make it protective and cool to your phone.
The case is scheduled to be released by end of this month. Any idea is highly appreciated. Anyone who likes to be the early reviewer is also welcomed.
Sign me up, I'll give you as much feedback as you need!
I'd like it to have a protective lip around the screen, so you can lay it face down without damaging the screen.
Also personally I really DO NOT care for the RGB logo in the middle at the back... so I don't think a cutout would be necessary
In another thread I posted this picture, something like this would be awesome: https://imgur.com/0fCqjOR
Maybe a little thicker for that extra protection, like this, that would be cool: https://cdn.webshopapp.com/shops/25...amsung-galaxy-s10-plus-hoes-heavy-armor-t.jpg
I know it's for the S10 but still... I think I made my point. I have that type of case for most of my phones, it's grippy even with moist/wet fingers, it gives excellent protection and it's $5 to $12 depending on where you get it.
Thanks for your great ideas!
Thanks for your suggestions! Some of your suggestions are identical to my current design scheme such as protective lip around the phone. Besides, i have planned a set of goodies such as supportive skin, screen protector and other elements to match game style, in the hope to make the case protective and attractive.
Could you share the point in which you are interested for a game phone case?
Could you share the point in which you are interested for a game phone case?
I'm not sure I understand the question....
All I want is a good protective case... Nothing flashy!
All current cases suck for protection.... And all those dumb cutouts do not make sense...
It should have a lip and substantial thickness to the corners and back similar to the aerocase the phone came with. It saved my phone a bunch of times dropped (twice at chest level and one time it bounced three times.)
Only problem I have with the aerocase is it leaves the sides of the phone exposed.
Please make one with substantial coverage. cutouts for the ports. The triggers can be left exposed but not the power button and volume rockers. And should still work with the cooler.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions. What you suggested is exactly included in my design, which features:
(1) Raised lip for screen and body protection
(2) Reinforced corner protection
(3) Noctilucence effect
(4) More for you to explore...
I would be interested in reviewing this case early if you are still offering.

Hi Damaris,
Up to be an early reviewer .
Design suggestion -
Design no. 1 -
Recreating an aero case design in tpu material.
This will have a rubber bumper case kind of feeling. Check Image 1.
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1TkDgkm3PL1JjSZFxq6ABBVXaV.jpg?size=227140&height=612&width=790&hash=3923c671c1c9ff076ca2e3edd46af716
On the back side where its empty on the attached image, the case you'll design will have an exact overlay of the web/cutout design as the aerocase.
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/Hc5870a6cb89440a8944001789c42b0298.jpg
Also keep the case in matte design tpu material.
Keep port cutouts same as the case in the image, its the generic tpu case available out.
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/H8883e0cb92524ada87cfcd83bfaa2e7fa.jpg
For exact cutout for mics and other ports you can contact me as I have this case.
Also Please make sure there is a lip in front to avoid contact of screen with flat surface.
P.S. - Can you share the images of current WIP design here?
Ribbed sides for extra grip maybe?
Just check if there is anyway you can design the case to make it water resistant

Sure. You must be an excellent designer! It's in my plan. I made it on the left and right sides for comfortable gripping and to prevent phone slipping.

Thanks for your query.
We have waterproof, dustproof and antidrop cases for iPhone series and Samsung series. Since ROG 2 user base is small, it is to be determined. Anyway, it's subject to market/customer requirements.
The design involved by this post is also driven by customer emails.
A link or pictures please?
I'd just like a good cover case that also protects the front and isn't big/thick/heavy.
Rog Phone 2 cases
I hope this is still applicable, i believe you should develop at least 2 cases for the Rog phone 2 as some persons bought it for gaming and others for the killer specs
Gaming - a slimmer transparent case with cutouts in black similar to the aero but in tpu that still shows off all the gaming aspects of the phone including logo and reflective lines on the back while offering some protection with reinforced corners. The black cutouts could have a transparent layer under it, in case the phone falls on an uneven surface, the back glass wouldn't break. ~$15
Specs - this could either have a single cutout for the logo or none at all and should be a bit thicker than the gaming case with more heavy duty protection, it could also include a stand/built in screen protector which can be removable if users want another one ~$25
both should have a lip at the front to protect the screen and good cutouts for all the ports/triggers/grips at the side and vent while not preventing the squeeze feature from activating.
There could also be a third case that combines the best aspects of the two and could be similar to the Poetic Guardian line of cases which combine all round protection while still showing off the phone's design. ~$20
And even a 4th limited edition case that has built in additional 64/128GB of storage or an adapter so users can add their own storage via micro sd card which connects to the 2nd usb C port as majority of people bought the tencent version as its a great deal (the adapter should be removable so users can still access other features of the 2nd Usb C port and orange colored accessories port

To be frank, i'm surprised at your professional and detailed suggestions. They are of great value to us. Thanks for your time and attention to my request.
For aero case design in TPU material, we have discussed it in our design team. We are not sure whether it involves patent issue. So we need to seek professional legal advice before working on this.
For current WIP design, it's being finalized, and i'm not allowed to distribute it for condifentiality reason. However, i will upload some of our past designs to IMGUR this week. If you are interested in it, i will share you the link once upload is done.
By the way, i can not access the links you sent above. There is nothing but a prompt messag "no photo".
we hope, you could ship here in the Philippines. we have so many members here waiting for good rugged cases. as of now we are stuck on aero case and some flimsy non-fit cases from lazada /shoppee

I'm looking for a case that attaches at the four corners and has a raised lip/bumper at the top and bottom of the phone to protect the screen when the phone is face down. Attaching at the corners provides drop protection since those are the most vulnerable spots on impact and being recessed at the sides will add minimal bulk when holding and using the phone without getting in the way of sliding in from the edges. In a nutshell, like the S7 edge cases, but for my S7 regular. I've spent hours browsing amazon, ebay, google and searching through forums and I'm hoping someone knows of a case with these features.
Starting from my Nexus 4, then my Sony Z3, then my G4, I've always had to settle or customize (cut) cases but I'm hoping I don't have to do that for the S7. Does anyone know of a case like I described?
Thanks!
Hi, I'd be interested in this too. I've done a lot of research but with no luck either. I suspect nothing like this exists for the S7.
I emailed Spigen and got this response.
Currently, we do not have definite plans to have cases with recessed sides for other cases.
However, we will definitely consider your interest and pass it along to our developers! Thank you for the suggestion.

I didn't get my hopes up. I'll continue to keep my eyes out, but have ordered the VRS Design Verge from amazon now. At $7, I don't mind cutting into it. The polycarbonate is recessed on the sides, even though the gpu doesn't. I'll be taking an exacto knife to it as seen below. I'll probably see how well the buttons still work and then try cutting it deeper to where I'll be accessing the original phone's volume/power buttons. I'll post pictures as I go along for anyone interested.
After trying over 10 branded cases my vote goes to Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/262301410361
The Turata Slim Fit case has a minimal lip, but does not satisfy your criteria because it still covers the left and right edges:

It looks so good, have bought one
I do not usually put my phone in a case because I do not like to add bulk. I like to keep it as slim and trip as possible. I am coming from a prior phone that had a rubberized surface on the edges and back (Droid MAXX - the original). The Pixel is a bit slippery for me.
I am curious what solutions people would recommend for the best way to add grip to the Pixel without adding bulk. Maybe I need to go with one of the thin cases, or maybe there is a skin that could help? I don't need to decorate the phone, but if there is a skin that helps it grip better I would give it a try.
Your options are case, skin, and naked. For cases, you're not going to get any thinner than the Nillkin Nature cases. I'm not a fan of the one I have but it's undeniably low in bulk. For skins, the are a ton of options and you'll have a variety of opinions but if you don't want a case, that's about your best option.
Some skins are grippier than others, even win a single manufacturer, so it's worth asking the manufacturer about it. For example, for dBrand their grippier skins tend to be the carbon fiber options.
Good luck!
I've said this in the other cases thread on here, but I'll post again just in case people don't know about that other thread.
Caudabe (http://www.caudabe.com) makes great, very slim cases for iPhones.
If you email/tweet them to make Veil XT for Google Pixel/Pixel XL, they might consider it.
You can try reaching out to Shumuri too (http://shumuri.com)
I wish that their was an antigravity case for the pixel... I can't stand mounts and would love to just stick my phone to my instrument panel
Based on my experience with them on other phones, a skin won't provide anywhere near as much grip as the surface on that Droid Maxx.
Instead, take a look at the thread on ultra-thin cases:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/accessories/ultra-case-t3483579
The Nillkin Nature cases are very slim and definitely add grip to the phone. You can see pics in my post here:

You can't go wrong with the UAG cases. The plasma series is surprisingly thin and light, but really has great edge and drop protection. they feel great in the hand. They are a little higher in price, but totally worth it.

+1. I received the Ice case yesterday; using it on the silver Pixel. I wanted a slim grippy case, one with black rubber to hide the darkening that occurs with time on rubbery areas of phone cases, and a clear back to display the silver/white of the phone. This case is PERFECT. It looks great. And the grip is fantastic.
I just received a blue Speck Presidio Grip and it's a very nice case for adding grip. The blue one is hard to find unless you pay quite a bit of $$ (I found a listing on eBay for used under $20) but the black version can more easily be found for under $20.
The case fits very well without being too difficult to take on and off. The added grip is good without being extreme. The hard plastic has a nice matte feel to it (the previous Speck cases I had was glossy but I like this better). And the buttons have a good clicky feel to them. It's not a minimalistic case like the Nillkin Nature but it's tons better than something like the Incipio Dual Pro.
Hope this helps somebody!
I've been meaning to try the DBrand skins for a while. Just ordered the bamboo version for my silver Pixel. Will update how it is. I have high hopes as the reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

I'm getting a Slickwrap skin. I've been using dbrand for a while now... Just want to try something different.
I've purchased two Toast skins now and I really like them. Because they are actual wood they are really nice and grippy with the added benefit of that if you drop your phone, the wood will absorb some of the shock. It's prevented a few dings for me. Plus they can laser etch anything you want on there...

I've had Toast on phones and laptops. Great products although I prefer them on non-phone devices because it's impossible to put a case over top of it and sometimes you just need heavy duty protection.

Hi

I have a best skins ever fitted with the glossy screen and matte body.
Also I have a qi receiver. You can see the USB port blocked by it
The buttons are cut outs so are quite recessed. I had a spigen case on just before that covers the buttons
This case is much less bulky than the spigen
The headphone port is possibly slightly wrong. If you have a headphone socket with a bulky top it might struggle. This is being picky though and I could just get a scalpel to it to increase the hole a mm

There is the anitgravity space:https://megatinycorp.com/products/anti-gravity-space
This basically just sticks on to any case
Disclaimer : I do not benefit in any way for saying anything good or bad about these products. I am giving you guys my honest opinion on these cases to help provide some assistance on buying a case.
Let’s start with the first case I bought from them.
Orzly Flexicase (Clear)
Link to the case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072MZCQB6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_v8mFzb704M66R
Price :£12.99
Things I like: Simple case, adds much need grip to the OnePlus5. Doesn't detract from the overall phones aesthetic or feel. , Good lip around the camera bump and the front.
Things of concern: It's a simple case, it's mainly there to prevent scratches. Not going to protect your phone from anything major
Comments: I really like this case, there is a craft to a making something simple and effective and this is it. No fancy features it just protects your phone from scratches, adds grip and protects from small drops. It doesn't over stay it's welcome and I congratulate on that.
I was happy with my purchase at the price I paid but since it has gone down. I think anyone wanting a simple case you can't really go wrong with this.
Also like to note, I haven't had problems with any holes in the case. Some people on other forums have asked me about the quality of the finish. No evident problems with the finish of my case.

Orzly Wallet Case (Black)
Link to the case : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072QV1VRT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_qInFzbCVEWP0X
Price: £14.99
Things I like: Protects the screen while it’s closed, Magnet keeps the wallet closed well, Effective card slots and pocket slot, Effective stand, I like the case that holds the phone in the wallet, not too bulky.
Things of concern: It’s a wallet case, people either love them or hate them.
Comments: I had this case for my HTC 10 and they have improved this case immensely. Now having three card slots instead of two allows me to take my bank card, ID and my public transport card without having to double up in the slots (That can create further issues). The main issue with last years was the case that held the phone in place. Last year was a hard shell, now throughout my time working with phones, more than half of wallet cases I have seen have broken inner shells because they use a hard shell inside. This year they have basically taken the great Flexicase design and used it as the holder for the wallet case. That was a great move and make the wallet case great.
For a wallet case, this is a solid wallet case. You can’t really go wrong with it.

Orzly Slim Stand Case
Link to the case : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B073S7BWQQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Price:£12.99
Things I like: THIS THING IS SLIM, the case itself may be the lowest profile case I have used on the OnePlus5, The stand can withstand a lot, stand can be rotated in different ways.
Things of concern: This case may not work with some in-car phone holders, the stand bulges out and made it hard for my vent holder to hold it.
Comments: I picked up this case because I was intrigued. I didn’t think I would like it but I really did! The case has a really nice soft touch finish and provides protection for the camera bump which is surprising as the case is really low profile , it provides a very small lip on the front so it may or may not protect the phone from if you put your phone screen down. The case doesn’t really take much away from the buttons which is nice.
The ring stand is really handy, A couple of times I’ve used it. I do find myself playing with the ring stand itself and hanging my phone off my finger, the case fits very well I can trust that my phone will stay there hanging. The stand really is quite strong. I can put a lot of force on the stand and it didn’t feel like it would break, (I have posted a video demoing that) The things I would say is that I would like the stand to have different standing points, it would be nice to have the phone to stand at different angles, while this isn’t a major thing, I thought I’d point it out.
I really like this case, nuff said.

Orzly Fusion Case
Link to the case : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B072MPYX9Y/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
Price: £9.99
Things I like: Not bulky, feels like it would protect the case.
Things of concern: Can’t think of anything…
Comments: This is the case I have on my OnePlus5, I really like it. It’s like the FlexiCase but better. This honestly feels like this case has been designed by someone who’s wanting a make a case for themselves. There is extra grip points around parts of the case which your hand is in contact with. That’s a smart move. There is some little feet on the back around the clear back, this is a expert level move from Orzly, clear plastic scratches easily by doing this the plastic clear back from the ground. The clear back is quite hard and seems like it could withstand a drop, this is the motto of this case: it’s solid.

Comments About Orzly
One thing I have noticed is Orzly has revamped their packaging. It’s more like you would see in a shop and has nice little touches to them. Having a little tab to pull to open the box and having nice information (To read on the toilet obviously) adds to the over. Here is some photos : http://imgur.com/a/vZ4eu
Please ask any questions and if this helped someone, if you liked it I may do more.
Thanks so much for this. I agree with the flexicase and slim case, both have been great for me and I have already used the stand on the slim case for a train journey. Worked out great. I am looking forward to receiving my fusion bumper case from the reviews both you and niijonodhg have been giving!
Thanks for your review. Can't decide between slim stand and fusion case. I don't like a lot of bulk as the phone itself isn't the smallest one and I like to keep the look of it. Generally I'm very very careful with my phones but
Unfortunately I already cracked my screen (first time ever). Currently in repair.

Ouch hopefully you get it back soon! As for the slim case, it has virtually no screen protection but the stand is very useful and it is also a grippy case. You can put your finger in the ring part while your using it to help you stop dropping it.
I've made your decision even harder

Yes you do make it harder ?. I never used cases mainly for protection but more for the extra grip but dropping my OP5 makes me reconsider this. But when I dropped it I didn't have any case installed so it was pretty slippy. Maybe I try both cases as they are not that expensive .

Getting both of them might be a good option. My favorite is the fusion but the slim case is really good. The slim case adds grip to the phone without much bulk or extraprotection where as the fusion is really grippy as well as adding more protection.

Just received my Orzly Fusion today and have to say: that thing is amazing! Adds minimal bulk but seems to be good protection. And the best thing is that it adds so much grip to the phone and makes it really comfortable to use.

I also received mine today and I completely agree with everything.
I had the Ringke case on my Nexus 6P, which had the same type of back plastic and I know for a fact it does not yellow over time.
I also have a dBrand skin on my phone, and the case fit perfectly over it with no hassle at all. Dragon Skin with Orange Logo and Camera Cutout.
I also have the Orzly Tempered glass installed and the case fits perfectly around the glass as it should... Since it's from the same company.

Hi All,
ROG bumper V1 has been released for about one month. We have received some feedbacks from user side.
Leave aside the positive feedback, most users focus on two issues:
(1) cooler compatibility: most users show strong desire for this, and tell us this is why they choose ROG 2 for gaming fun.
(2) signal interference: about 15% buyers reported this issue. Does metal bumper affect signal quality and how much? To clarify this, i find the answer by Google: https://www.shamoscases.com/blogs/n...e-blocking-signals-and-messing-with-reception.
V2 maybe the last version of this product based on our current plan, so we hope to hear your voice fully on how to improve it once again. No user voice, no excellent product. The improvement is scheduled to be finished in March 2020.
Appreciation for your suggestion.
I just started following your case design thread recently, great work & design!
is it possible to have a TPU bumper case instead ? I could really use some protection for the back of the phone, if I drop it...
What I'd like to see in my preferred case would be a pronounced black TPU bumper (frame) that has raised lips on the front and back and fully covers the buttons but stays tactile when pressed. For the back, I'd like to see full glass or scratch resistant polycarbonate without any holes (the vent is a dummy and since the back it transparent, the light remains visible). This would restrict accessory compatibility but the phone would be well protected while still showing off its beauty.
for me, i prefer a silicone bumper case which i still can't find in the market for ROG ii. i hope u can make a silicone bumper case like rhinoshield crashguard. an aluminum bumper case look tough and very nice but i believe it not as good as silicone in absorbing impact. the paint on aluminum also can be scratch. i really hope to have a nice silicone bumper case on my ROG ii. please make it happen.
Been a lover for their fiber cases since N10 days.
Works well with wireless charging and also NFC. Bare and slim look.
It's real light and works well with most of the screen protector I have tried including whitestone.
Got my s23 ultra case from them this time too and currently just waiting for my exclusive s23 ultra colour to arrive.
A picture below for comparison of the new case with my n20 case.
You guys can use this link below for a 10 dollars of their products.

Amazing case, looks very classy.
Only using if for formal occasions as it offers minimal scratch protection and is as slippy as a bar of soap
I got the same case. Really love super-low profile Arabid cases and this one certainly fits the bill.
Only downside i experience if removing it is extremely difficult. It's so tightly fitting it's tricky to get it off
But that's a very occasional problem and nothing everyday
Yeah I have the Pitaka case for my S23U, I have always used the Thin fit Aramid fiber cases for all of the phones I have had, this is the first time for the Pitaka case and love it, I have the Overture case that has the green/red strip down the back.

I am assuming they left some space for camera holes in case you put lens protectors inside?
Which screen protectors are you using with this case?
Holes in the case.
Using AM Film
I ordered one last night, the Rhapsody version. I usually run full protection cases (have the Mouse Aramid right now) but can't even remember the last time I dropped a phone.
With my S20 FE, using a full protection case since day 1, the bottom frame of the phone got very scratched up because debris got inside, between the case and phone. I'm hoping that with how tight the Pitaka fits that I won't have this issue.
But now the sides of the S23U will be exposed, so I also wonder how well the phone will resist side scratching lol.

I found the best way is the bottom.... try to "roll" your thumb around the lip part of the case one side at a time...
