I use my phone fairly frequently on wifi hotspots that do not have internet access, only intranet access.
It seems that this has been asked before but never answered:
Is there a way to permanently disable the "no internet connect anyway?" message on android? I want it to always connect to a wifi hotspot, even if there is no internet.

I've set up a private network wireless with a webserver for a project I'm working on. I do not (and cannot) have internet connectivity on this network. Whenever I bring up the web browser on the TP (3.04) it spams me with "Error: No Internet Connection" messages and I can't access the webserver. I do not believe I had this problem with spamming on 3.02.
Does anyone know how to disable this or at least know the mechanism that the TP uses to determine if it has Internet connectivity? Maybe I can spoof it.
Running stock, clean install of .12. My Hotspot (which I do pay for, so that isn't the issue) isn't behaving at all. The phone is broadcasting the network and devices can authenticate, but they're not being routed to the Internet once they're in. "Limited connectivity" or "No Internet" statuses on my PC, lack of IP config details on my iPod/Pad.
I called VZW support last night and the guy had me shut the phone off, then he reset something on his end and had me turn it back on again. For an evening it ran like a top. Today I'm right back where I sarted. It *can* work, it just isn't.
Interestingly, when I run Mobile Hotpot, it gives no indication of trouble, but in the Tethering & mobile Hotspot menu in Settings, when i run the Hotspot, I get "Error" showing up in there. Doesn't say what kind of error, no detail/debugging, just "Error."
To recap:
ICS .12, stock
WiFi network ok, Routing not (apparently)
"Error" in settings when Hotspot is on.
Only thing I've seen that sounds anything like this was an APN issue on a different carrier's ICS phones post-update. I'm stumped at this point and like my odds better here than I do calling Verizon again...
I am having the same problem after OTA ICS, I can turn my hotspot on and it says connected to 1 device (my laptop) and when I try to connect to the wifi it takes a while and says "limited connection" and will not work. If I go to my mobile settings it says hotspot...error. usb tethering (internet connection mode) still works but the wifi hotspot doesnt at all, I thought they were supposed to fix this!
I have a verizon hotspot for the road so I have connection while traveling. It always worked great, however now on Android 5.1, half the time when the phone connects to the hotspot, it asks me to "Sign into network". I click the sign into network, and there is nothing to sign into and it connects.
The problem is, I am trying to make it all automatic. When I lose data from my carrier, Wi-Fi is turned on and connects to the hotspot. That's when the "Sign into network" pops up. If I don't click the the sign into network notification within a couple minutes, Android flags that network as having no internet, and won't automatically reconnect until I forget the network and connect to it again.
Does anyone know why android keeps asking to sign in to the network when there isn't anything to sign into? When I click sign into network, it brings up the sign in activity, shows a loading bar, then the sign activity goes away and I'm connected.
Perhaps there is a way to automatically 'click' the "Sign into Network" notification when it pops up?
I solved it. I'm not sure why Android keeps wanting me to login (perhaps the verizon hotspot is logging every connection, and Android sees that as a captive portal). Every time I got the "Sign into Wi-Fi network", it was when I still had some sort of mobile data connection. Now, because Android switches to mobile data if you need to sign in to a wifi, it never tries to get internet on the wifi until the user actually taps the notification to sign in.
Now, if there is NO mobile data connection (both wifi and mobile signals have an exclamation mark), Android will keep trying to gain access to the WiFi without user interaction. Because of the initial confusion, Android thinks I need to login to the hotspot, but if it would check again, it would see that there is access.
So the solution is to detect if there is a notification for "Sign into Wi-Fi network", and if there is, disable mobile network data until the Wi-Fi network is connected. I did this in a bit of a different way for my application, but the concept is the same.
This is the solution for all of those apps that automate WiFi logins with real captive portals that broke with Android 5. The only downside is they would now require root in order to disable mobile data.
This may seem like a dumb question but... is there a way or an app to essentially turn on WiFi hotspot feature so that I can make an ad-hoc LAN but NOT let all the devices connected access the internet?
Example: I enable WiFi hotspot on my phone. I still have a cellular data connection so I can browse the web, stream music, etc. but any other device that connect to my phone's hotspot does NOT get my data connection, they are just on the LAN the built in android hotspot creates.
I don't want to let other users "run up" my data usage but I want the other users when they connect to my hotspot to be all on one network.
I have a bootloader unlocked Motorola Moto X (original, 2013) and rooted and I use Tasker. Maybe after I enable the hotspot feature I could modify some IP tables via a Tasker app to "enable/disable" internet blocking.
Or maybe there's an app out there for this? I suppose another alternative would be disable mobile data and then enable hotspot (if that's even allowed) but the pitfall there is then my phone doesn't have internet either.
Thanks,
Mike
[Question] Forced VPN connection shows Wifi "no internet" notice (with internet)
Hello,
I've setup Android 9.0 (LineageOS) with an always on VPN (with OpenVPN),
https://i.imgur.com/yGm9knQ.png
and configured AFWall to ensure internet only through VPN.
https://i.imgur.com/Y6aacHr.png
While everything is working correctly (internet works, even with mobile data off), Wifi shows a "no internet" notice. Is there a way to correct this?

If not, it's not a big deal as it's really an aesthetics issue, functionally it works.
Thank you for any advice.
Edit: Also noticed, if I disable Wifi and leave mobile data on, mobile data will then have a "no internet" notice (while internet still works).
