Post-ICS hotspot issues - HTC Rezound

Running stock, clean install of .12. My Hotspot (which I do pay for, so that isn't the issue) isn't behaving at all. The phone is broadcasting the network and devices can authenticate, but they're not being routed to the Internet once they're in. "Limited connectivity" or "No Internet" statuses on my PC, lack of IP config details on my iPod/Pad.
I called VZW support last night and the guy had me shut the phone off, then he reset something on his end and had me turn it back on again. For an evening it ran like a top. Today I'm right back where I sarted. It *can* work, it just isn't.
Interestingly, when I run Mobile Hotpot, it gives no indication of trouble, but in the Tethering & mobile Hotspot menu in Settings, when i run the Hotspot, I get "Error" showing up in there. Doesn't say what kind of error, no detail/debugging, just "Error."
To recap:
ICS .12, stock
WiFi network ok, Routing not (apparently)
"Error" in settings when Hotspot is on.
Only thing I've seen that sounds anything like this was an APN issue on a different carrier's ICS phones post-update. I'm stumped at this point and like my odds better here than I do calling Verizon again...

I am having the same problem after OTA ICS, I can turn my hotspot on and it says connected to 1 device (my laptop) and when I try to connect to the wifi it takes a while and says "limited connection" and will not work. If I go to my mobile settings it says hotspot...error. usb tethering (internet connection mode) still works but the wifi hotspot doesnt at all, I thought they were supposed to fix this!

[Q] Can't turn off tethering

I have a once rooted (I say once because I'm not sure it still is after doing the OTA updates) that has the APN for tethering. Tethering works fine.
The problem is that when I change the APN back to use AT&T US I don't think the phone is disabling tethering. The reason I think this is because I am running JuiceDefender and it shows that Tether is on. Additionally, the battery life is much shorter than usual and the phone is warm to the touch even when it is just sitting there in standby.
Any ideas on how I can confirm that tethering is indeed still running and/or how I can truly turn it off?
I have tried rebooting the phone, selecting AT&T US Tether (so that I get the message saying that I don't have tethering on my plan) and have tried disabling and re-enabling JuiceDefender.
If you scan for wifi networks does your tether network actually show up?
Nope, I don't see it. It's almost like the phone thinks it needs to keep the cell data connection alive so that it can provide tethering, but without actually providing it.

[Q] Wifi connection problem - Omega rom v35

Hey guys,
Wasnt sure where to post this. Have a question regarding wifi conection settings. I was on omega v34 and everything was fine. My phone connected to all wifi networks I wanted it to. I updated to v35 of the rom and now I have a strange problem.
My phone still connects to my house wifi and work wifi, but refuses to connect to my parents wireless. Ive reset their router, changed the password and removed the settings for the network on my phone. When I refresh and attempt to connect to it all I get is "authenticating" and then it will give up. It is a BT home hub and the strange thing is that my phone will connect to the 'free wifi' BTwifi-with-FON and the BTwifi, but not the proper network zone BTHub3-T2G6. Its incredibly annoying.
Are there any hidden settings in my phone that may have the wrong settings for the network in it?
Any help would be appreciated
EDIT: Just turned the security off on the network and the phone connects fine. I dont understand why the security key would cause problems as it connected before the update and the settings havent changed.

[Q] WiFi Tether on CM10.1_M

I just upgraded my Verizon Galaxy S3 to CM10.1 Milestone build, running jb 4.2.1. When I use the built in wifi ap, as soon as i turn it on, it says "no internet connection" on the phone. On my computer, the network name does show up. If the ap is configured with any security, on the computer it will say "connect timed out" when i try to connect. When i make the ap open, the computer will connect to it. However, since my phone drops it's internet connection as soon as the ap is turned on, my computer gets nothing from being connected to the ap. I also tried using "WiFi Tether" app. When I start it, it says "tethering started but with errors" and in the log it shows that "configuring ap" and "starting ap" failed. It doesn't even show up in my list of wifi networks on the computer.
Both wifi tether app and the built in wifi ap worked perfectly fine in CM10. Any suggestions as to the fix? It's a CM10.1 Milestone build, so I would think they'd notice something like wifi tether not working for a MILESTONE build!? Maybe I have to upgrade my radio or find the source code for the wifi ap somewhere? This especially sucks since I just cancelled my Comcast internet, so i'm 100% dependent on my phone! Please help! :crying:
Hi I have the same problem as you! Have you figured out a way to fix it yet?

Unfortunately the entirety of the internet was completely useless, but I did find a simple solution. I ended up running the 20130124 nightly build. Funny thing is i just went to look at my phone, and it claims i'm running the M1 build, but i'm sure i not. But i just used the CM updater (system settings, about phone, cm updates) and installed the 0124 nightly from there. Everything works great, except for when using the bluetooth for music in the car, the bluetooth connection is all choppy and unbearable. But the voice bluetooth connection for handsfree calling works just fine. So try that. But the next monthly build should be coming out in a couple days, and I'll probably upgrade it. Even the one i'm using occasionally says "no network connection" and it never reconnects, even when there's strong signal. So I just have to reboot it and it works great again for a while.

Can I get my device to auto-connect to WiFi without internet?

Hi everyone,
I own a Nexus 5 and I am running stock firmware, Android 6.0 MRA58K, unrooted and bootloader locked. I use this device at work and frequently connect to a WiFi LAN that has no internet connection (by design -- I use it to talk to other devices on the network). In older software versions (I believe back in the KitKat days if I recall), I could simply turn on the WiFi slider on my phone, and it would automatically connect to the network, and I could immediately start talking to the devices I need to (this was excellent!). Then when Lollipop first rolled around, it would still connect to the network automatically, but it would realize that there's no internet connection, so it would then prioritize the Cellular Data network, preventing me from communicating with my network devices. So I had to do an extra step by disabling my data connection, then things would work properly again. (Of course, this also meant that when I wanted to jump off the Wi-Fi, I would need to re-enable Cellular Data.)
Nowadays, Android seems to remember that my WiFi network doesn't have an internet connection, so it never joins it by default (very frustrating!). So every time I want to jump on the network, I need to turn on WiFi, then manually select the network to join, then go into the Data section and disable cellular Data, and then things would be working fine. Of course, if I ever walked away from the Wi-Fi range and then came back, I would again need to manually select the network.
And now with this lastest Marshmallow update, a new Notification pops up every time I join the Network that says:
"Wi-Fi has no Internet Access. Touch for options." When touched it says, "This network has no Internet access. Stay connected? Yes/No" There's also a checkbox that says, "Don't ask again for this network". Every time I check that box, and say YES to stay connected. And yet each and every time I connect to the network, this notification appears again! (The checkbox seems to do nothing). I've looked at the Advanced options in the Wi-Fi settings, and nothing there seems to help.
So my question is, is there a way for me to go back to the "good 'ole days", where I can get my phone to automatically join this WiFi network, and still prioritize it over cellular data?
If need be, I'm perfectly fine with rooting/unlocking my phone, if I need to install some custom firmware or whatever.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have!

Mobile Hotspot Stopped Working - Can't Connect

I'm on STF-L09 8.0.0.364 and everyday I use mobile hotspot with no problems. Few days ago I tried to use Device List feature to allow only Allowed Devices to connect on my hotspot. After trying this, my PC and iPad couldn't connect anymore to my hotspot. The network appears by default but iPad shows "wrong password" and PC shows "Can't connect to this network". I went back to last configuration but with no success. I have already tried to change network name, password and authentication type but none of the attempts worked. Does anyone have an idea of what to do or know a way to get the mobile hotspot settings back to the original?
Same here.
For no reason wifi hotspot stopped working.
I tried to reset network parameters, to switch between wifi 5GHz and 2.4 GHZ (as found elsewhere), no result.
I installed last update (STF-L09 8.0.0.368), but hotspot still not working, can't connect any device to it.
Any clue ?
Dear User,
again go to hotspot>> device list>>select allow devices to "connect as all devices". Then disable and re-enable hotspot and again try to connect, try to reconfigure wifi in ur ipad, laptop and all. its working tried as u said with my device
I did that once, didn't work. I did it 2 or 3 times more, then it finally worked !
Hotspot is really instable : after some minutes of use, I had to do this again .
But thanks for your help.
It seems like enabling and disabling the Device List turns the Hotspot working back. But every time I want to use Hotspot, I need to do it again. The functionality really is unstable.
