Newbie Questions about Custom ROMs - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I've been interested in trying out custom ROMs for a while now but have a few questions I haven't been able to find answers to.
If I try custom ROMs and dislike them, can I go back to stock pie (the way it is now, with everything working) if I don't like custom ROMs?
I've read stuff mentioning that pie ROMs can be unstable if I update to stock pie. I'm already running stock pie, so is my hope for pie ROMs gone?
Is it possible to try pie and q ROMs without running into stability issues? (blobs and stuff)
I'm running a VS996 and have heard stuff about Verizon switching to VoLTE only. Will custom ROMs work at all or am I out of luck?
Many thanks to all,

This should answer your questions

Verizon has postponed switching to VoLTE only for phone calls for another year. End of 2020. When that happens, if the devs have not yet figured out VoLTE, you will have to go back to rooted stock firmware and run Magisk and Xposed mods instead for the improvements you want. I already do that. But I stayed on Oreo on purpose.

Here, read Post #1 and #2 of the Root Sticky Guide. In Post #2 specifically, it has all the information about custom ROMs.

If you don't like custom ROMs you can go back to stock Pie, but I would recommend rooted stock Pie or even Oreo and you can still have Magisk and Xposed mods to for features and improvements.

No, you merely downgrade to most recent Oreo firmware to run LOS-16 (Pie) ROMs.
(You have to temporarily downgrade to very early Oreo anyway to unlock bootloader and install TWRP.)
However, since you are on stock Pie right now, if you downgrade to most recent Oreo to run the LOS-16 Pie ROMs you will need to run permissive kernel for stuff to work right.

[Q] Can someone catch me up to speed with T-Mobile s5

I used to root and flash like crazy on all my previous android phones. When I got my s5 last June, I just rooted it so I could use Ad Free and let it be.
Now I'm wanting to get it up to date on lollipop. Doesn't have to be the stock ROM, but close to it, maybe just slimmed down a bit if anything.
Can someone tell me, based on my version in the screenshot, what the procedure is at this point? I know when I used to be doing this all the time there were always new tools, recoveries, methods etc. that needed to be followed to avoid bricking or any problems so I don't want to just download the first lollipop ROM I see and flash it since it's been nearly a year since I rooted the phone and haven't done anything to it since. Thanks very much for any help.
EDIT: I should also mention when I boot to recovery it says it's Android System Recovery, so it appears I never had CWM or TWRP installed.

Use twisted lollipop v5
It's built off kitkat base but lollipop rom very cool stable and some tweaks . You do not have to be on official lollipop update to flash it .Just root flash twrp recovery for t-mobile s5 download rom and flash
It's in android dev section

Is the se for android permissive?
Whatever u do, don't go lollipop. It's full of annoying little problems. I rooted and I should have stopped there. Rooting doesn't affect Knox. I changed get the recovery to twrp and tripped Knox. Mind u, just to check out the roms. Decent roms but all the ones that have lollipop all have the same b.s. Errors lollipop comes with. Oh and u can downgrade incase u upgrade and don't like lollipop. It won't affect Knox.
?twisted v5 is good, I've been running it. I also flashed dob1 firmware.

Stock Rooted ROMs

Excuse me if there is a thread already for this, but do we have any stock rooted ROMs for the Lollipop builds? Stock LG rom that is.
I know there is the restore tools, I am just looking for a basic stock rooted for my device.
In Development (non-original). JasmineROM 9.1 and SkyDragon 6.0x.
Sorry I was looking more of stock unmodified other then root.

questions dont belong in general.
Can we get this moved to the Q&A then?
it will be soon as a mod gets to it.

If you don't flash the optional debloat zip for JasmineROM, then other than root, there's very, very little that's modified about it, and nothing noticeable at all. The biggest modification is to make it work with Xposed if you decide to flash the latest Xposed for 5.1.1.
The second biggest modifcation(s) can't be reasonably helped. Both JasmineROM and SkyDragon have the bootloader from 12B and the modem from 24B. The reason it has the old bootloader is because that's the only way currently to still get into TWRP, and it has the 24B modem because the 35B modem doesn't work with the 12B bootloader.
One or two people have had success getting Advanced Calling working in this configuration, but most have not - so you'll likely have to uncheck the option in the ROM and disable it as it comes enabled by default.

Move from Rooted 12B to Custom Rom

I have figured out nearly everything to get my phone setup. What is eluding me at the moment is how to get from where I am to where the latest custom roms are. Below has been my process:
Started on 24B stock
TOT method to 10B
Stump Root
SuperSU
TWRP
10B to 12B using TWRP (retaining root)
At this point I would like to get to a custom ROM, for example SkyDragon, Resurrection, Turbo, etc. Is it as simple as downloading the rom and GAPPS, then flashing with TWRP, or do I need to move forward from 12B before I try and get to the next step? Aside, should XDABBEB's VS985 be part of my process? I'm getting a bit lost in the muck between 12B and 47A; where I should be and how to get there.
Overall, I'd like the simplest route to not having issues with advanced calling and wireless charging. It that mean not touching marshmallow quite yet, cool with me. I look forward to hearing back, and thanks to everyone who put in the hard work to package these projects together, as well as those who detail their steps and results along the way.

Just as long as you keep in mind that stock LG-based ROMs like SkyDragon, JasmineROM and @xdabbeb 's already have GApps, so you would only need GApps for CyanogenMod or CM-based ROMs like Resurrection. Personally, I stick with stock LG-based ROMs because they just work.
You also need to be on the correct Bootstack. 12B for KitKat, 24B for Lollipop 5.0.x and 35B for Lollipop 5.1.x and Marshmallow. Get used to flashing the bootstack AFTER flashing the ROM because if you ever flash JasmineROM or SkyDragon and you flash the bootstack before instead of after, the ROM will overwrite part of the bootstack and depending on some other variables you can brick your phone. Recoverable, but bricked.
or do I need to move forward from 12B before I try and get to the next step?

Only if you want to be on his ROM. Personally, his VS985 v2.0 ROM is my overall favorite although I'm currently using his stock 47A firmware completely debloated.

Advanced/HD Calling works fine for me on 47A. I thought I tested it fine on @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 too, but it's been such a long time ago I can't say for sure. Advanced Calling isn't available on CM-based ROMs like Resurrection, only stock LG-based ROMs. Wireless charging might be the same, but I don't know for sure and never used it.
Help please read my question..

Custom Roms for LG V10

I was wondering if installing a custom rom even worth it? Also I wanted to know if their was a bug free CyanogenMod software to download and install on the V10?
Eliminator74's Marshmallow ROM is OK. Andy Zhang released another MM ROM which has a few performance tweaks and has more bloat removed (and has slightly better battery life, if you ask me). I personally am running a 100% stock ROM, flashed with LGUP, and rooted with Magisk and systemless phh Superuser (Magisk version), installed from TWRP.
If you're still on Lollipop then Evil Yummy Gumdrop is probably your best bet, it also has a custom kernel (the newer MM ROMs use the stock kernel).
As far as AOSP/CM, everything works for the most part, except the camera and 2nd screen functionality. If that bothers you, use a stock-based ROM, if not then go for it. For Lollipop your option is CM12, for Marshmallow your options are CM13, BlissPop, and Resurrection Remix (rated in that order by me on a scale of best to worst, although all are good).
My advice, if you need everything to "just work", go for stock, if you don't mind a few things not working or more bugs, go for AOSP/CM. It's also important to note that none of the AOSP/CM ROMs for our device are currently being maintained. The guy that was in charge of maintaining them dropped off not too long ago.

hi, can you direct me to a step by step guide to install magisk and phh root? thanks.

Just search for Magisk in Google. There is an XDA thread there. It has all the info you need. Root, Xposed, some other mods, there are Magisk versions of all these. There's alot to read, follow instructions to the letter.

Just curious, when is Magisk worth it. I've always been one to root and rom my device but i'm enjoying stock rooted right now and don't feel like i'm missing much. Thanks in advance!
Edit: NVM - http://www.howtogeek.com/249162/what-is-systemless-root-on-android-and-why-is-it-better/
Root and Xposed via Magisk is def worth it because it allows you to have these things without modding the system partition (which also means you can take OTAs as well). SuperSU is also available via Magisk, as well as other things like Viper4Android, BusyBox, etc. I've had no issues, just follow instructions and you'll be fine. You can even create your own Magisk modules for other mods that aren't yet available.

So what's the most functional way to get an H932 working?

Hey all,
I picked up an H932 and the rooting process seemed easy enough. I have TWRP installed and I got through the whole tutorial without a hitch.
However, I've read elsewhere of people upgrading to different versions of stock before installing a custom rom? I guess I'd still be on 10d, and I'm thinking to install Havoc OS unofficial as it runs great on my H930.
Edit: Nevermind I guess. I installed 20s fullstock and that worked fine, rebooted into recovery and installed Havoc. Don't really have a way to test it though.

The problem was fingerprint sensor didn't work right on custom ROMs if you stayed on Nougat after root. You had to upgrade back to Oreo before installing custom ROMs.

Yeah I did some more reading then found the 20s thread. I installed 20s and went straight to Havoc.
I need to do some testing though.
