Allow location access without GPS on Android 10? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Xiaomi Mi 8 SE running MIUI11 (Android 10), rooted, TWRP equipped, bootloader unlocked. (Carrier: Telenor HU, but I don't think it matters.)
Not too long ago, on Android 9 (MIUI 10) I could allow applications to access my approximate location without GPS, using mobile network. Even that required tinkering because, for some reason, only in Google Maps could I access a menu, I think in Google Locations, that turned on location access and then this permission stuck for all other applications even after uninstalling Google Maps.
Now on Android 10 the only thing I have is a combined "Location access" switch that toggles GPS as well, and this is the only one to toggle GPS by the way, see attached screenshot. What I want is allow location access for apps from whatever source they have. If GPS is turned off, use the mobile network.
Is there any way to enable that?
(I'm a software developer, so I don't get scared if I need hacking.)
Thanks.

Location on maps using Gtab and TNT4.4

Does location work on GTAB and TNT4.4?
It hasn't for me. I think the app only uses network and gps to get location. I could be wrong but that is the only connection missing.

There is no GPS within the gTab, so location cannot be automatically determined as it might be on a smartphone. Near as I can tell, some have worked that out via tethering a smartphone or attaching an external GPS via USB, but I haven't figured this out yet.
I just tried tetherGPS from the market and it worked for me. I have a Nexus One running Cyanogen and it comes with mobile hot spot enabled. I turned on my mobile hot spot, connected the gtab via wifi and ran navigation on the gtab. Worked perfectly! I used the lite version but if I can figure a way to mount the gtab in the car then I will pay for it, no question about it.
i have used BlueGps and have my bluetooth gps connected. But google maps tells me to enable "My Location". Where do i find that option ? Im using TnT LIte 4.4
from your home screen:
menu (settings) --> location & security
check USE GPS SATELLITES
also be sure to enable 'mock locations'
menu (settings) --> Applications --> Development
check ALLOW MOCK LOCATIONS
That's how I'm getting messed up. I have no option under location & security for GPS. I do have the option for mock locations.
No location services
Me neiher. Is it something to do with having changed the ROM to TNT lite?

School me on the GPS and Google location services

So I've had my phone for a year and rarely use the GPS feature.
In the past (stock) I've kept all my phone features on including Google location services, etc. Now that my phone is rooted and running AOKP, I turn off all the Google location services, report my location, etc, to save on battery.
My question is since this phone uses A-GPS (yes I wiki'd it) does it mean that it is REQUIRED to have these location services turned on in everywhere in the phone in order for GPS to work? I've tried using GPS without all these services but for some reason GPS didn't seem to work. It comes back with can't determine location, etc.
So do I need all these Google services to be running or should I just be able to enable GPS and have it work for turn by turn navi?
Should only have to have GPS turned on.

AFAIK agps just helps it obtain a lock faster.

aGPS supplies the GPS the updated almanac and ephemeris data from the network, and allows faster lock by aligning the system clock using one of the clock servers.
If it sounds like Chinese - then google all the unknown terms, and eventually you'll be able to google the answer to your question.
I read some other article that stated you needed to have data turned on as it draws the maps. All the google maps are not stored to the device???

No. You need data. And either Google's location service or gps turned on.

So what does "make available offline" in the maps settings do? I guess I just can't turn on GPS and enable "offline maps" mode and that will work too.
This is why I ask these questions. Some people say you don't need anything other than GPS and other say you need to have location services on.

When you enable offline maps it's only for a small area.

Enabling offline maps tells the device to cache any routes you plot in nav or maps so that if you lose data connection navigation will continue to function. If you depart from that route without data connection, you'll lose nav.

1. If you just want to use the GPS feature, then it must be TURNED ON. That's it. No other requirement, other apps asking for location services have nothing to do with GPS function of the phone.
2. About google maps and gps service on this phone.
a. the map itself is stored on their Google server, so in order to use map, you must have accessed internet, hence either wifi or mobil data required.
b. if you carry other maps that stored locally in the phone internal space such Tomtom, Sygic, .... you DO NOT need wifi or mobil data to use this function.
3. About the Google's OFFline maps. A lot of people do not fully understand the usage of it.
Back to step 2a above, I said "google maps stored on their server" so you need internet access. In this case, offline map is just a small cache (10 miles radius) and it does store in the phone memory. So yes, you do NOT need internet (wifi or mobil data) to use "offline maps" (of course, you must create one before hand)
What is the down side?
a. As mention, it is just a small cache.
b. If you define the term "GPS" as global position system then you know all it does is getting lock and determine your location and that's pretty much is. You CANNOT route the route. You CANNOT navigate from point A to point B. You CANNOT search for an address.

GPS seems not to work

about a month a go I loaded a custom rom
[ROM][PORT][4.2.1][AOKP/CM] Vanilla RootBox v3.6 [31/01][Per-App-DPI][PIE]
since than when i go to google maps or navigation it says waiting for location and than after a few mins it says your current location is currently unavailble. when i check the location acccess option the wi-fi and mobile network location is disabled. when I enable it it does seem to find where i am but uses data to keep updateing. so I disabled it. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the GPS opetion to work and find me so I can use the navigation again.
thanks.

How to fake location on wifi only tablet

Hi,
I'm using Floater when I need to fake my location on my phone, however I just tried it on my tablet (no gps, only wifi) and it's not working. When I start Maps it gets my fake location and after a couple of seconds it goes back to my original one. I set it to spoof my wifi location, but nope. I tried other apps as well and still no good.
I have a Mipad 2 (Miui 8).
Any help would be appreciated.

My Mi Pad 4 3/32GB (without GPS), with the new MIUI 10 can not get the location via Wifi for the Google Maps app.
I tried to cancel Maps data and restart but it did not work.

even their built in Weather app can't locate using wifi (throws an error then quit)...
let alone Maps....
Find my phone does not work cause of locations service.what s the problem¿
