Hello,
At the moment, I have installed android 9 x86 on my Asus PC, since the computer is very old and I was looking for any operating system which would work fluent on this machine.
So now I am struggling to make it look like windows desktop. Is there any possibility to make it look alike? If so, how can I do this?
I mean, I need to set the bottom task bar, multi windows with "Minimize, Maximize, Close" functions and so on. The closer the looks to original Windows 7 the better.
Computer specs: Intel celeron 900, 2 GB ram.

I was just wondering. I know that Eclipse is the way to go, at least per the Android SDK website. But, I was curious what OS do most of you use? Windows or Linux? I'm currently setting up a Linux box and was going to use that to start learning Android development. I'm getting bored of doing .NET development at work and want to learn Android programming in my spare time (of what I have) and possibly to start developing apps.
What are some of the pros and cons of developing between the two OSes?
Thanks!
I stopped using Winblows when i randomly lost the ability to SBF with it.
Go Linux and never look back.
besides, virtualbox runs windows under linux better than windows runs by itself.
I used windows because it was my main OS and I used Ubuntu studio for audio recording. Windows has a lot of good tools available..like 5:1 with Linux.... Linux is good because you can Dev from source better/easier.
Now I main Ubuntu because I can play wow on it now...

I used to run Linux all the time, then when my kids got older and wanted to play various educational games from the library, I had to go to Winblows.
I do like Win 7 and now, with the kids tapped into technology at school, it's almost a given that I have to have Windows at home.
But, on my other machine (it's a p4 2ghz - ouch), I'm installing Linux and wanting to do some work on that machine so I don't have to dual-boot between Windows and Linux. Plus, I have WAY too many games (like Skyrim, Fallout, etc) on my Windows PC that I can't run Windows in a virtual machine, even though that machine is a quad-core with 8gbs of RAM and a high-end video card.
Anyways, as long as I can also SBF from Linux (which I googled and found out I can), it sounds like I'm going in the right direction in regards to using Linux for my programming Android apps.
Arch Linux, though I don't really do Android development, mostly because of the webapps I'm working on.
Gentoo/Funtoo are quite nice as well.

I've been doing everything with Linux since I first installed Red Hat 5.2 back in '98. Today, I run either Ubuntu, for whom I developed and bug tracked, and Debian, because I'm still a purist at heart..

You could try a windows launcher, have you tried Launcher 7?
Yes I have tried it but I'd like to have full win rt, if it can't be ported it's not a big problem, i just would like to try it
not sure if our bootloader can support windows if primarily made for android/linux.
Just recently started building these for one of my laptops. Not sure how great compatibility is to start but it ran and installed on every device I tried on, mostly devices from within the last 5 years 64 but capable.
One problem I noticed on some older devices, it doesn't auto boot. I will post instructions to get the image to boot shortly.
***Directions to install***
1. Burn to usb drive:
Code:
#sdX should be your usb device
dd if=/path/to/img/chromiumos-1.23.15-x86_64.img of=/dev/sdX
Or use equivilant windows tool to burn similar to these directions http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
2. Boot from USB drive, some devices have errors, fix will be posted soon
3. Switch virtual terminals to get to a text prompt - CTRL+ALT+F2
4. Login - username: chronos password: password
5. Elevate privs:
Code:
sudo su -
#type password again
6. Run installer:
Code:
/usr/sbin/chromeos-install

Right now just building from master at https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/manifest.git
Plan on forking things soon
***Thanks***
Thanks to everyone who is working hard on the Chromium OS project
Is there any way I could run Chromium OS on an old Mac Mini?

I have an interest in Chromium builds. I am trying to find ones that will work on a wide variety of hardware.
Like: Acer Aspire One 722-0473. This one has 64 bit Amd c-60 dual core, Radeon HD and Atheos wifi. So far everything is locking up at the first screen where the 3 drop down menus are. I would be perfectly happy to boot with 32 bit, lite distro.
Like a Dell Latitude D530. Appears to have Broadcom wifi but won't boot at all. Gets to the unpacking kernal screen and starts complaining.
Like a Dell Inspiron 910 Mini. This actually has a small SSD. It boots but doesn't recognize the touch pad.
I have had to resort to Chromixium.org which has a chromebook look-alike project.
Or to Zorin OS which has a Windows 7 look-alike that maybe I can get to automagically start Chrome browser.
I both am curious and there is actually a business opportunity out there. Installing a "more or less" production version of Chromium OS on old/slow netbooks could become a side job if I could get them to work.

If its Intel hardware it should work, there might even be something for their old ppc hardware but not 100% sure.

I can't make any promises on functionality, I have only explored the source a little bit and I am sure troubleshooting without me having the same exact hardware will be hard but I will put something up for you guys to test. Keep a look out for it in this thread in the next day or 2.
There are a few things I have ran across for getting it to boot from USB so I will most likely update op with some directions and notes that I have.

I bought a new Laptop this year with Windows 10 and I absolutely hate it. So much so that I've decided to dump Micro$oft for personel usage. For that reason, I've been looking at Linux. For me, Linux has the most potential. It's been around a while so has enough apps etc. In practice though, I've had too many issues with Linux Mint on 2 different machines now. The first, a new Asus FX503, has touchpad issues, video issues and every time you change a driver, the bootloader just breaks and is sometimes unrepairable. On the few times I got things sorted, silly niggles like screen brightness, media keys and poor touchpad scrolling have still killed the experience.
On the second laptop, an old Dell Vostro 3500, it refuses to load Linux. This got me into trying Chrome OS with Cloudready. I have to say, I'm really impressed as most things just work out of the box. Media keys, brightness, video etc. Scrolling is the only issue here, but that could be related to running a live session off an old Nokia N86 as the USB key with very slow memory speeds.
From what I've seen, Chrome OS + Windows 10 is the easier of the 2 options.
I was just wondering if I turned my Galaxy A12 overall operating system over to windows 11 would it produce the type of organization I want?
I once had a subscription for windows 11 operating system for HD Streamer notebook, but I don't have any more. I loved it, " made every thing in my life run smoothly ". I ' m thinking about tying it again. Experiences with windows ios on phones?

In stall a new launcher I would recommend nova launcher in the play store just because of all of the options.
