Incorrect Scatter File Format - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is my 3rd post, without any replies for the issue with my Blackview p10000 pro on my previous 2 threads
As such i find it hard that none of you is able to give me a hand... that's what forums are for right?! WRONG! Nobody cares!
And this will be the last thread i open with a disappointment from this community
I'm using a MediaTek SP MultiPort flashtool and, i selected my scatter file 'MT6763_Android_scatter.txt'
Unfortunately upon loading the file i get the error that's an incorrect scatter file format
I'm trying to reset my bootloader to stock firmware
Android 8.1.0

I know this is an old post, but this may help someone. (would have me a month ago)
Hopefully if your USB is seen in Windows you can convince SP Flash Tool to spew/download/write data to your phone while it's in Meta Mode.
I believe the PMT block is created by SP Flash Tool dynamically from scatter file. It's comparing the scatter file with what is sitting at the PMT address on the flash. If these two mismatch, you get the error you mentioned. If you want to force a new PMT that matches your scatter file's layout, you have to do a "Format" in SP Flash Tool. This will get you back to a PMT on flash that matches your scatter file, then SP Flash Tool will be happy and allow you to use Download (write to flash).
What is a PMT? A partition table that holds the addresses to all the other partitions.

PMT Corrupted & Format-all done
I faced the same error.......my PMT got corrupted (possibly due to an earlier attempt to re-size (system / data) partition using Swiftbootloader)...... & un-fortunately, I clicked on Format in SP Flash Tool as well.
Now all is gone.... phone doesn't switch on.........
Please guide...... to bring the bricked handset (Spice Mi-350n) to life again. I have backups..... but that relate to different scatter file (PMT) perhaps........ do I need to search & learn webos & acmeinstaller kind of things now?

The best way to restore your phone was already answered in the previous post, that is to FORMAT your device and subsequently flash the official firmware.

Hi iZLeeP
Thanks for the quick reply. I dont have any official rom. The only backup i have is using the CWM backup of the official rom before applying a custom LG rom. If it is possible, how can i utilize the CWM backup of the official rom to revert back please ? I can see boot.img and recovery.img files in cwm backup; can i utilize them somehow to revert back ? Please help. Thanks.

Let me remind people, the first order of business must be to have a full firmware backup from the phone manufacturer or thru MTK Droid Root & Tools. Reading that you tried to resize your system & data partition, your cwm backup should not be affected by it. Try restoring to default the partition sizes using the app/script you used to resize. It should have that function. Then flash custom recovery and root and see if it works.
phone booting to main-screen or not?
hi HNaseer....
As replied by @syserr & @iZLeeP .............you can try to "Format-All / Format-All except bootloader" type of thing PROVIDED THAT YOU HAVE COMPLETE BACKUP OF RELEVANT PARTITIONS (till Cache and / or till FAT partition length) using SP Flash Tool........ & MTK Droid Tool......... PLUS, YOU WILL NEED IMEI BACKUP (IMEI No.) in such case if you want to restore.
SP Flash Tool needs Scatter File......... (obtainable thru MTK Droid Tool) & can help in backup of various partitions even if phone not turning on. BUT IMEI backup would be good........ IF YOU ARE ABLE TO BOOT / reach main screen after boot animation.
Rest of the details can be first read / understood from my MT6589 chipset type handset link from @Atrvscet : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514419
Or, better search exact thread on xda / elsewhere to get stock / custom rom & flashing etc.
Lastly, if you are able to boot in recovery, best thing should be to flash / force flash original cwm backup from recovery.

HNaseer.... I agree with everything spandrd just said. I'd like to stress though, getting a backup of your NVRAM partition is much better than having MTKDT copy your /data/nvram. So if you have a choice, backup the NVRAM partition with SPFT or if MTKDT has that option use it. (I've rarely used MTKDT as I found aspects confusing)
Incredible.

Not sure what you are expecting to do with a FORMAT. If you had a good backup of your NVRAM partition, then what you would need is a SCATTER file and ROM files, you could FORMAT then DOWNLOAD the ROM files and your NVRAM file to your device with SPFT. But since you don't have your NVRAM partition, you don't have an easy path. FYI, I don't know new devices... there could be more complication than MT6577/75.

Try google, or search xda, or needrom.com...
This may or may not help you. If I were you I would use SPFT right now to try to backup your NVRAM partition if it's not too late. Your FORMAT may have wiped the NVRAM partition already. If it has wiped it, your only good path is to find someone willing to give you their NVRAM partition. Then somehow insert your own IMEI and WIFI MAC in and pray.

Please can you explain how to use that firmware?
I think it's a recovery firmware for going back to factory defaults when s**t happens.
But I read on some forums that I should backup my IMEI and NVRAM (with MTKDroidTools or something like that...i don't know if there's a specific tool for the Cube T8 Plus) BEFORE trying custom roms, otherwise there will be problems even on restoring stock firmware, right?
Can somebody please make a short-how-to for dummies focalized on this Cube T8 Plus (so poor and confused support on forums yet)?
- Backup before custom rom installation
- Custom rom installation
- Recover to stock firmware
Another question: why that page you linked says "Platform: Mediatek MT6753"
Isn't MT8783?
Thank you very much
my tablet is not bricked now but my serial number and my mac adress is wrong ='(
Use sp tool for save your firmware tablet ( i think).
I have the same problem, after the resizing of partition the tablet is soft bricked and I'm downloading the stock firmware form the above link.
Is there any way to backup the mac address and serial number from softbricked tablet?
...you should have a backup of nvram!

I think it's too late.
I did a backup of nvram with SP Flash Tools BEFORE brick.
When i recovered the tablet after brick, my IMEI was invalid until i flashed my backup of nvram.
Anyone could suggest how and what to backup before trying Root and Resize?
Just backup nvram with sp flash tool

The only unrecoverable partition (for mediatek devices like T8 Plus) is the nvram which contains info about IMEI.
Firmwares/ROMS that we can download from the web never comes with nvram because it's single product related. It's like mac address of wifi cards.
You can find even stock (original) firmwares online, they will bring your tablet back to factory default after a brick.
But if the brick corrupted the nvram, you will NEVER be able to recover it. That means no phone calls and no data connection.
Unless you did a backup of nvram before its corruption.
With SP flash tool you can "read back" from your T8 plus the nvram partition and save it as a file on your pc (file size must be 5MB). Of course you need drivers, SP flash tool and the scatter file. Since i wasn't able to retrieve the scatter file from my T8 plus, I used the scatter included in the stock firmware T8-PLUS_V1.0_20151004.
I am new forum user so I can't post links, but google is enough.
That stock firmware is hosted by baidu, so use browser translation and register an account to get permissions for download.
Remember: in the firmware archive you only need the scatter file! It will tell to SP flash tool where the nvram partition starts and where it ends.
If you will need to restore nvram (e.g. after the unbrick) ,you will have to download to your T8 plus that nvram file with SP flash tool, but before you have to edit the scatter file and set "is_download=true" in the nvram section. Otherwise you will not be able to select nvram in the partitions list from the download tab of SP flash tool.
So the backup will consist in two files:
- nvram file (5MB) (nvram, nvram.img, nvram.bin, extension doesn't matter)
- scatter file with edited "is_download=true" for nvram section
Thanks so much for your help. I think i will be able to backup NVRAM. But im kind of lost on scatter file editing and flash.
Im waiting for Tablet ti arrive

Root for Asus Zenfone 3 Max

Hello,
I've been recently trying to root my Asus Zenfone 3 Max (ZC520TL) using SP Flash tool,
however, I haven't found the correct scatter file for my device. Does anyone know where
I could find a MT6737 scatter file? Thanks in advance!
Hi. From my experience, correct scatter files that work (not just any random scatter file) reside in a ROM/Firmware zip.
Doing a little searching, I found that you can download stock firmware for you device from Asus officially. They offer them in the support section.
Here is the link: https://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-3-Max-ZC520TL/HelpDesk_Download/
Should you download the official firmware specific to your device and unzip the file, (in all probability) you will also find the correct scatter file which you are looking for (something like xxxxx_scatter_file.txt).
(also keeping in place a stock rom is never but never a bad idea )
However... You mentioned that you need the scatter file to root??? I have not any idea as to why you would need SP Flash tool for any other reason than flashing stock.
Unless you are flashing full custom rom which cannot be flashed through recovery perhaps?
Anyway... Good luck!!!
Thanks for the quick response!

Ok... No worries!! We will probably figure it out in the end.
By the way, I am not sure I understand exactly how you were going to use SP Flashtool to flash TWRP. From my experience it does not work that way. You need platform tools (adb and fastboot).
platform tools here ----> https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
It is with these that you will unlock bootlader, and after bootloader is unlocked, first flash supersu, install busybox and lastly flash twrp.
Please look at my how-to root and twrp section. It is not for your device, but it will give you a good idea of the process: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/lenovo-tab-3-8-tb3-850f-unbrick-root-t3598727

sp flash tool scatter file loading error

Hey guys,
sorry to bother you but i'm sort of stuck in a loop which i'm tryin to get out.
short background story: (end question next paragraph)
i own a xiaomi redmi pro, with a "fake" xiaomi stable global rom on it. fake as xiaomi doesn't support this rom.
I wish for several reasons to flash to either a stable/dev china rom, or the .eu stable eu rom.
for this i read a lot on how to flash those on a winsdows pc. but i run ubuntu.
so no problem... both use sp flash tool. so i downloaded the tool opened perfectly and tried to load scatter file from the rom i downloaded.
rom page link: downloaded both the china stable and china dev rom for the redmi pro
question paragraph:
when loading the scatter file i recieve an error message: Error: Initializing scatter file failed. Please check the name of scatter file which you load is legal.
i looked up the error and found that this was caused by the use of not the latest sp flash tool.
But i just downloaded it from the sp flash tool site itself (https://spflashtool.com) as being the latest for linux 64 bit. (SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Linux_v5.1520.00.100)
true there are later versions (SP_Flash_Tool_exe_win_v5.1524 or SPFlash Tool 5.1628, but only for windows)
googled a bit further and founs this site from sp flash tools: http://spflashtools.com/linux/sp-flash-tool-v5-1724-linux via https://androidmtk.com/smart-phone-flash-tool
so i downloaded this version, made the flash_tool an executable with: chmod +x flash_tool and tried to run it with ./flash_tool, but now i get an error message:
error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory, which i indeed couldn't locate.
maybe it is a 64 bit /'32 bit version error? but in the http://spflashtools.com/linux, site i did not find any specifications to 64 bit vs 32 bit, while it was on the previous mentioned site.
since flashing a phone can be a hazardous thing to do i want to be sure i'm using the correct tools.
I hope someone here is willing to help me with getting the sp flash tools correct version up and running so i can indeed load the scatter file.
Kind regard
Matthieu
sorry,
found the error related to the libpng12-0 problem.. added the file to my system, and the latest version run as expected now.
although when i tried to flash i got an error message (and a blue thumb and index pinger because of pressing the two buttons)
ERROR : STATUS_EXT_RAM_EXCEPTION (-1073414139) , MSP ERROE CODE : 0x00.
but i expect this to be an phone (type) related issue, and i will aim my attention therefor back to the xioami forum.
none the less thanks.

Unbrick Oppo A91 CPH2021. Need oppo_custom file.

I accidentally used SP Flash Tool "Format All" option when trying to flash a firmware.
After that, I was able to boot the phone but got stuck at the android logo with the error 0x99256658.
According to this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/crash-phone-realme-8-need-image-oppo_custom.4402181/ ,
I know that the problem is caused by missing oppo_custom file.
I then used mtkclient to flash multiple different oppo_custom files on the internet (around 15 files).
Some of them boot the phone to the welcome screen but the phone touch does not work (even in recovery mode).
Does anyone have a dump of this oppo_custom file for this phone or even better, a full dump of this phone? I need the file to restore the phone touch
Thanks in advance.

I did read that post. However, there is another post on the exact phone model and the same problem as mine on that same forum https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-42497.html. The guy got the phone to work. I contacted him but no responses.
I tried 3 different oppo_custom from realme6 and 6i. Got the phone to boot but the touch does not work.
There is also a commercial tool (Unlock Tool) to solve this problem.
So my last hope without the tool is to try a dump from a same device.
I took a full EMMC dump of Oppo F15 phone (similar in specs to A91), extracted the oppo_custom file and flashed it back to the A91 and it works. The content of the extracted oppo_custom file is different from previous files that I used, it has more content instead of zeros block. Below is the file for anyone that faces the same trouble as mine.
hey bro can u pls give me the full backup of your emmc pls
