SGH-T859 Port replacement - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My power/multifunction port on SGH-T859 has gone out again.
Has anyone tried to replace the ribbon cable/port with one of a later model?
I would like to replace it with one that has a micro-usb port and possibly card reader.
I thought the pinout on the ribbon cable might be the same.
I want to do this all internally.
I know that I could build one (I have the soldering skills) but if it is a simple swap or limited mod, that would be preferred.
I would replace the Tablet but I have an old T-Mobile plan locked to it.
Thanks,
Gregg

[Q] Broken micro-USB connector: Repair or Replace?

Broke my miniUSB connector while the G Tablet was connected to my PC. Planning to call the support people in the AM, but wanted to find out my options, here.
As I also have to shell out for a hot water heater this week, I'm looking for the best "cheap" option -- better to send it in for repair, or to just bite the bullet for a new Tablet, either the TigerDirect sale going on now or another? I can live without it, but it's also proved very useful for my hard-rolling lifestyle.
Did you have any luck? I did the same and the mini usb is totally non functional.
Any luck from anyone on this? I opened my gtab and basically the insode connecter got pushed back and now the pins are messed up.. Is there any kind of replacement part we can just resolder?
If mine broke off this is probably the route that I would go. I would attempt a resolder job. http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/49616-0711/WM17535-ND/1991399

You'd probably have to find a different part then because it appears the mini socket on the gTab board is a surface mount and not a through hole as in your link. View attachment gtab_mini_usb.pdf
This one should do the trick then. http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/896-43-005-00-100001/ED90342TR-ND/1873755

[Q] [Q-Flyer] Supplier Microusb PCB

Can somebody help me? I need a new PCB containing the microusb port.
I've searched ebay and google but couldn't find anything.
My device is a Flyer 32GB 3G
Maybe this would be possible if it was a standard micro usb port, but since this is a custom htc part, its doubtful you'll find the part on its own. I read elsewhere that htc charges approx $110 for the fix and it takes about 4weeks.
You might find a non-working device on E-bay from which you can scavenge the PCB

usb/charging port

has anyone gone through issues with their usb port? this is going to be my third time fixing it, if i even fix it at all. buying boards just for the usb is pretty frustrating since i usually havre to buy a complete phone for it. i actually have just the usb ports themselves but it didnt work out too well the first time. very small soldering. anyone else had theirs go bad more than once?
micro usb port fix
yes, it takes insane soldering skills to fix one. but instead of buying a phone just for the port you can get a replacement micro usb port on ebay for a few bucks. once you solder the new one on you can coat the pins on the board with a hot glue gun or any other solid adhesive for strength. once the job is done try to remember phone ports are delicate and should be handled with care and you wont have a problem again.

Replacing the usb charging connector

I just bought a att sgs2 on craigslist.. mint condition but the something is wrong with the usb connector in the phone.. I've tried a few different cables and they all work the same.. nothing when I plug them in but if I push the cable hard into the phone's usb connector it will work. So I need to replace it or just start using an external charger. Anyone have experience replacing one of these? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
The USB port is messed up u will need to replace that small part but only a expert or Samsung can repair that or u can just use an external charger

lol, good luck with that. You're going to need some pretty legit soldering skills, IIRC. You might be better off just replacing the mainboard.
If your phone is less than a year old you can get it replaced under warranty.
It is a fairly easy repair if you have basic repair skills (no soldering is required).
The charging port is part of a separate pcb/ribbon cable assembly, which you can obtain from several on-line sellers (sorry, but I cannot post any URL's).
Also, there are several videos on youtube that will show you exactly how to disassemble the i777 (and r&r the part).

Thanks for that info. I've been concerned about the sturdiness/longevity of the usb connector on this phone since the day I got it. I've always been very careful with it, but things happen y'know. This is good to know because, even though it's covered by warranty, when/if mine decides to go I know it will be on day 366 of my ownership.

Faulty USB flex question

Hey all,
bought a used i9100 recently, UK 3 network. Got it cheap as the usb port doesnt work (charge or pc connection).
just got round to changing the part, but the part i bought doesnt work either.
there isnt any signs of water damage, and the person who owned it before me wasnt the diy type, so it hasnt been messed with (still had the original GB 3 branded stock rom on it).
have asked the seller of the usb part for a replacement which will be coming tuesday, but in the meantime i was wondering if anyone knows of any other reason thatd stop the usb port working. is there a chance the mainboard has a fault? everything other than the usb port works, and it doesnt go into drive mode, or phantom charge etc.
cheers
Tried cleaning the port with alcohol? Remove battery and clean with a toothpick. No metals or anything.
What could be wrong? The port, the flex connector even the main board. Replace the usb socket and see. Be careful around the antenna wire when you open it up.

thanks for the reply.
maybe it wasnt clear in the op, but i have changed the part over already. the 'new' part which came didnt work either when i changed it over.
i say 'new' as they appear to be pulls from phones, rather than new parts.
heres the part http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251069751004?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
just hoping that i received a faulty replacement part.
will try cleaning the port, sounds like a good idea.
This is one people said worked in another thread.
received the replacement from the seller today, and all is working. nice to have usb working finally
