I added a bootup PIN on my Poco when I got it a year ago but have given the phone to my girlfriend. She can never remember the bootup PIN and wants it turned off and I have no recollection of how to turn it off.
I tried Googling it but they just mention the screen lock PIN rather than the bootup PIN.
Thanks in advance.

Settings > Passwords and security > Privacy > [the name of your sim card]
Then you're in Sim Lock Settings - deselect Lock SIM card
I find the MIUI settings menus a pain in the hoop so tend to use the settings search bar a lot more than I ever did with stock Android

I added a pin code to lock my device but when I tried to go back into settings to remove the code, there were no options anymore to enable/disable lockscreen pin/password. Fortunately for me my pin was not a long one but my OCD is keeping me from enjoying my device since now I realize the device has a lockscreen bug.
I just yesterday changed the lockscreen setting to a PIN and reverted back to "Unsecure". I'm on KM7 and it was done under "Security" in "Settings", every option was available there.
Did you by any chance encrypt your tablet? It's not possible to use the encryption feature and not have a PIN or passphrase.

I didn't encrypt the tablet (that takes about an hour and I did my 4 digit pin in a few seconds) but when I went back into "Location & Security" the option to set lockscreen password no longer was present. I am using a stock Wi-Fi 16GB model that I bought at Staples when they had the $100 off coupon.
I had to do some research and apparently I am not the only one having this problem.

I had this same problem on my GTab2 7.0 running stock ICS. Super frustrating. I finally realized it was being caused by my having an Exchange account for my employer's email that was enforcing a policy of not removing the lock screen security. This was even though I didn't have a password and didn't need one when I set it up. I uninstalled Touchdown (my Exchange account) and the "none" option reappeared. After removing the lock screen security, I reinstalled Touchdown and now everything works fine again without a lock screen pin.
Hi
Just bought the Galaxy SIII last week - have not tweaked it in any way (apart from rooting and using Go Launcher ex). Works great apart from a couple of things security related:
When I try to enrypt device or encrypt sd card there are no options to enter pin and the continue button is greyed out for both
I want to securely lock the screen with a pin but the first unlock screen to appear just requires you to slide the lock button to the right to unlock the screen enabling full access to the phone. I basically want the phone to immediately (and only) ask for a pin when it comes out of standby.
Thanks for your help!

S3 encryption - Solved!
Thanks madbob - had already done that. The problem was I was using Go Locker but hadn't enabled it in the Go Locker settings. As for the encryption not being available....I had a 6 digit numeric pin set but it requires an alphanumeric password before encryptioon is allowed.

I like the shortcuts on the lock screen and off you get a message or missed call shows.
However if I put a security lock, pattern lock etc you lose this functionality.
On my previous HTC sensation XE you got a message it showed on the lock screen, you dragged it to open it and then had to do the pattern lock.
Is this not possible on the S3, do you have to have either the security but no lock screen notifications?
Cheers
This is absolutely possible on the SIII (something I've been waiting for since I got my SII)...
Go to Settings > Security then use whatever Screen Lock you want (not sure if it works with all of them, but I'm currently using Pattern lock).
Once you have set up your Screen Lock, tick the 'With swipe lock' option and this should give you the desired results
Another great thing I've been waiting for was the ability to disable 'lock instantly' when turning off the screen. A lot of very welcome 'minor' tweaks from Sammy that have made this phone an excellent upgrade!

Where is this option hidden? I can't find it anywhere.
Cant see that option either???
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
It's there I've just found it thanks a lot. It appears AFTER you've set up the pattern lock.
Hello,
I used foxfi and it said I needed to set up a lock screen. I did however I don't want my lock screen anymore as I rarely use foxfi(didn't used to require the lock screen).
I went to settings, security, encryption level - my only 3 choices are pattern, pin and password - none is greyed out.

Turns out I had to force stop foxfi and clear credentials.
Hello,
I had tried a password, then I switched it to PIN. I realize I don't really want a lock at all but the top option to disable it is greyed out - my only three choices seem to be to switch between PIN, password and patten. I'm guessing there is another place to disable it but I can't find it.
Thanks

Yes - that is the problem the top selection - NONE is greyed out. I can only select between pattern, pin and password.
ALL items but the bottom 3 choices on that screen are greyed out.

You have an application installed that requires a password.
Maybe you have an exchange account and the policies are set, something.
I can disable the password on my phone with no issues.

Thanks - it was foxfi that made me enable the screen lock so I uninstalled foxfi but I still can't disable it.

Go into "Settings"
Then "Security"
Then "Phone Administrators"
Then you will need to deactivate "Foxfi" as a device admin, by selecting it then deactivating it.
If that doesn't work, I'm at a losss.
