Hey guys i just recently unlocked my bl and rooted with twrp and Magisk.anyways my problem im having is that every once in awhile i will do something like disable a certain app or i most recently installed a zip that added init.d support and then i try to boot and it boots up my launcher gives me like 5 seconds of time and then INSTANTLY will shut itself down . i just tonight found out how to boot into twrp from button boot so i feel so much better about this ever happening again because i was having to quickly try to run my root quick reboot recovery app which took hours sometimes. But im just interested if anyone knows how to stop this from happening or even why/ what is causing it to make itself power off? Thanks in advance

What kind of app are you disabling? System app that is needed? Or sounds like the zip you flashed screwed some stuff up?
Uninstall that, restore the TWRP back up you of course made before making all these changes.
I'm on rooted stock firmware with some Magisk and Xposed mods and my phone doesn't shut down.
Stock firmware -- especially last Oreo -- is very well optimized already. I know people coming from even older phones (pre 2017) have the idea they NEED to immediately remove and disable stuff but that actually often messes the phone up, big time. They are now putting in lag that wasn't there before. Or they are removing functionality they don't understand. System apps are no longer standalone silos. They are connected like a firmware web. If you blow holes in that you will now have unstable phone.
You can freeze some system apps in Titanium Backup and unfreeze them if you see problems. I have only frozen a couple myself as my rooted Oreo US998 runs very smoothly.
I'm pretty sure it's a phone/dialer app that is causing the issue when I freeze the app, and also I installed the fox recovery and flashed the init. D enabler zip that comes with it and it caused my device to do the same thing but since my last post I installed liquid Rom and everything is running great

phones been fine for 440 hours (uptime since last time this happened) - since i lost the virtual keys last time and had to use sonys software to reinstall everything.
now after a reboot this happened again. disabled all xposed mods and the menus returned but now with orbot and folder mount running i had endless reboots. only after uninstalling the other 2 apps did this stop.
anyone else had anything like this?
wish i had recovery - stupid win8 and locked bootloaders
sony update service with full wipe.
did that last time. 2 weeks later happened again. stopped when i made changes mentioned in OP
Looks like you've been using an incompatible Xposed module or possibly other mod(s). Install them one by one again and see what triggers the crash (if you feel like re-flashing your ROM again)
Btw, it's fully possible to unlock your bootloader using Win8. It's a little wonky, but it's possible (unless your bootloader is unlockable). Or you know, you can install Recovery for locked bootloaders, but you can't flash custom ROMs, but you can make NAND backups.
A little off topic: I installed uTorrent yesterday since i had to download a torrent, and after i was done with it and uninstalled it, my ZU crashed and rebooted. Once it booted up again it crashed again, and again and again. Luckily i had a NAND backup on my SD card, so that problem solved itself, but lesson learned; no uTorrent anymore.
"Fun" fact: This also happened with uTorrent on my Galaxy Note.
i thought that last time so after the last wipe i did just that. enabled them one by one and a reboot after each one.
very weird. all up an running again, same xposed modules running and no probs after a reboot.
i used utorrent on my note 2 and that was fine. very odd.
i really need to get around to getting a recovery going

Recovery is not a problem once you're rooted. Go to this thread, download and run the file, press "Oui oui, mademoiselle" or something like that and voila, you got Recovery. Easy peasy. It'll take you five minutes. Just remember to make a NAND backup once it's up and running. It's a life saver, as you already know.
ah, i kept this thread open
but was sure in another thread it mentioned problems with windows 8 as you have to disable driver signature verification or something.

Yup! Good going mate! I see you made it without any issues
Hey guys here at xda!!
I've got a little problem and i'd like to know if someone can help me fix it
So, yesterday i used Rom Toolbox to disable some receivers for some apps....nothing too special, i just disabled the ones i though weren't really needed for those apps....also some notification ones or at boot time ones i think (also i don't remember touching any startup apps because i already had handled those with startup manager free)....anyway: now reboot is stuck...at, well, reboot (bootanimation)...
Does anyone know how i can restore Rom Toolbox changes, or reenable all receivers from recovery?
Or something else which might help?
Unfortunately, i don't have either a recent nandroid nor a recent titanium backup. So switching roms would be a pain...
MY ROM: Foxhound 0.1 for Galaxy S3 based on stock 4.2.2 (kernel is stock) and i have xposed framework, just in case that might help:good:
I really appreciate your help guys! PEACE!
Reflash your rom, without a wipe, first. If you've broken the framework that will enable it to boot.
If you still can't boot due to a broken app then start in safe mode, uninstall the apps you changed then reboot.

thanks for the reply!
safe mode (which i had never even known existen on android) appears to not be working....i mean it keeps getting stuck at boot so who knows why,
i flashed the rom, rebooted, it booted (yay) and then the usual message popped up with "updating applications x out of x", and after having finished it appears to be stuck at the same message with "opening applications under way" (translation from italian). the title of the message is "updating/upgrading android os"...
i think i might be force to flash a new rom
I have a friends S4 here that I rooted for them a while back and installed Xposes + Wanam to make their locked bootloader device a bit more useful. It worked perfectly for many months.
Recently they come back to me to tell me their phone dies very quickly when it is not in use and does get pretty warm. Battery panel shows that Android OS is using majority of percentage and not any more detailed. I realized that it was definitely OTA updated and that Xposed stated that modules were no longer installed nor did Superuser have root. I realized I made a mistake and forgot to disable OTA services.
What I have done so far: Re-rooted by flashing old kernel, flashed back to new kernel. Reinstalled Xposed modules and things SEEM to be perfectly fine. Two days later, the same thing is still happening. Android OS is definitely still hogging the CPU doing something in a loop.
I understand that a possible factory wipe from recovery MAY fix this issue unless System files are messed up and needing to use Odin to restore BUT I figure it'd be a great idea to come here and see if there's a quick fix that may be possible that could also help other readers that have run into the issue of accidentally receiving OTA while rooted.
Thanks for reading.

You could downgrade back to nc5 by flashing the tar file. Nc5 tends to be more stable and battery life is decent. I tried running nk1 for awhile, running into the same issues. I went back to nc5 running echoerom v39.1
Hey, guys. Searched around this forum for this topic but didn't see anything, apologize if it's a duplicate.
Basically my tablet has been freezing constantly since the nougat update. It wasn't happening all that often to begin with but over time it turned into something like once a day to a few times a day. It doesn't follow any usage patterns as far as I can tell (i.e. I use chrome mostly but if I'm on something like one of the regular google apps it might still happen). Once it freezes I have to force shutdown via power button. Every now and then it will freeze and restart itself without my having to force shutdown.
It's stock ROM, with virtually stock apps (dropbox is the only downloaded app). I read about some solutions which I've already tried, and so I wiped the cache, did a factory reset, have about 5gb free storage space, and the issues are still the same.
Any suggestions? Thanks

YAY!!! someone else!
Can you try something for me. Flash this kernel FIRE-ICE N K10.5.3 (K10.5.4 seems to be having problems ATM)
i think your problem will be fixed.... please let me know! :highfive:
Hi, thanks for replying. I absolutely can do that but I literally have no experience flashing kernels. I assume it's same as flashing a rom but If you could provide some instructions for me I'd appreciate that. It's been a long time since I've even done that and I'd want to make sure I don't screw anything up.

Yes TWRP
Question did you unlock your bootloader?
honestly i don't remember. some time ago my n9 got stuck in some weird bootloop. i had to run the RUU (i think that's what it was) to restore everything back to completely normal. so if me having to do that meant i unlocked the bootloader then yes i did. if not, then i wouldn't have done it.
I'm so lost and confused over this since yesterday...
so 2 days ago my phone started lagging and hanging and freezing until i realized i have got this issue with data encryption
i have a rooted sony z2 with TWRP Custom recovery
first i didn't know it was with data encryption failure so i literally factory reset and installed all my apps and data again and again!!!
On both rooted and non rooted rom ....
after every time my phone started to lag !!
after one whole day of trying everything i finally realized its actually with the data encryption and i should change my ex4 to something else... so here again i wiped the phone and changed to ex3 and installed and all my data and apps all over again
but after a couple hours...same problem again.....
im literally so tired of not knowing what to do ! my head hurts so much due this ugh....
Please help me get rid of this issue thanks ...!
Hey, i would flash the full stock rom without root and twrp and look. I think it is a problem with the twrp recovery.
On my V30 with Oreo we should flash a zip that disable data encryption after some modification in Recovery.
Just try for a week the full stock rom.

Well i have already tried using the stock ROM without any root or recovery !!
and its still the same
however im not sure whats the zip file u r talking about and where i can get it for my Sony z2 D6502...
By the way i just thought it might be another reason that my device is lagging so much after installing like 30/40 apps.
i have overclocked my CPU with root and even after flashing the stock rom i feel like CPU settings hasn't been reset? is it possible?
its always on end MAX and less Min value on both stock/pre root rom my CPU gets very hot on TWRP specially, its more than 70Celcious so i thought maybe its a hardware issue and my CPU is overheating bcuz its old or something... and i should prolly change my CPU ?
i really don't understand whats wrong with my phone and im so confused about what to do
I had here a Z1 and Z2 both was my previous phones.
I didnt experienced such problems except i backup or restore anything in TWRP.
My questions for you are:
On which Version are you now?
What do you done exactly before the problem starts?
Get a Monitor App from Playstore and look what cause this high load. Or you take a look in the Developers Option for this.
We got here a not tasty problem, maybe you backup your whole data and reset all to stock and don't install any apps, after a while installing step by step your apps.

I dont think if its even about TWRP because i even installed the stock rom with Flashtool and started installing my apps one by one and after a couple hrs device started lagging and freezing and odd how Wifi gets soooo slow ! (like everything gets slow in it) and also when i reboot the phone it oddly takes long time on boot menu to load .
im not sure if i did anything to cause it tbh...
it just happened on a normal day...
it gets soooo slow and leaves no other way for me but factory reset option...
i have the latest rom 23.5.A.1.291
the only time i can get it temporary fixed is when i backup the rom on TWRP and factory reset the Rom and Restore it back!
and everything is working fast and fine again only for like 6 or less hours...
and while data is restoring TWRP shows the CPU Temp on +80C !! Is this normal?
Btw i have a unlocked bootloader.
do u have any idea what i should do?
Yes i do! You need a structure by fixing a problem, my plan is:
You must explorer the problem why your phone get so laggy.
Perform a factory reset and use your phone for 1 Day with this stock setup. (Dont restore your old apps or data)
Look often into the Task Manager to show what cause the cpu load.
