US (Sprint) Samsung S9+ Snapdragon Root Questions - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

I am trying to root a US (Sprint) Samsung S9+ Snapdragon phone. Have rooted plenty of phones in the past but have not done so in the last few years. It seems Samsung has really locked down the US based phones.
I have looked all over the place and spent about 5 hours trying to figure this out just to end up at square one. Can not unlock the bootloader it seems.
My main goal is to get the phone rooted, be that on a custom rom or stock.
I hate to post here and look like I am being lazy but I am lost. Would anyone mind pointing me in the right direction?

Yep TYVM, got it up and running with root.

this is exactly why i asked the Samsung Mods to put up a sticky about the S9 and S9+ now having root. Zero offense to the OP if any offense was taken

Im about to buy GS5 ??????

Hi I am about to buy the Tmobile gs5. About 2 months ago I bough a ATT GS4 and im pretty upset because of the locked bootloader .. There is no work around for it so you cant flash custom kernels or aosp roms ... Only roms based off stock ...........I guess im really wanting to know the draw backs if any ? when it comes to custom roms , kernels or recoveries ..Or is it a free for all when it comes to this ? Thanks any help would be much appreciated
Update: I had 20 minutes to decide on a phone and chose GS5 over G3 ..If you check the G3 development thread youll see why .
Your use of question marks is disconcerting.
Please use the search function next time. There are so many threads asking the same question. Just to make it faster, yes, the bootloader is unlocked and you can flash anything on it.
to follow up what aooga said, yes the bootloader is unlocked
however AOSP and other versions of non TW roms don't have a few features unlocked yet. I'll be happy when we get a working version of Cyanogenmod running...

Im sorry I made you feel uneasy ... Sounds like a personal issue Junior.?? You must get confused easily or maybe your just to busy wacking it to SIMS..
And thanks for commenting on my question marks instead of actually answering the question.

Thanks .. I wasn't even planning on getting a phone today and had the choice of a brand new GS5 or G3 and had about 20 minutes to figure it out and a crappy internet connection and asking a question once and checking back was my best option over google ..Got the s5.. There is basically no development for the G3

Sorry if I'm rude, but I'm sick and tired of people clogging up the forums because they did something they weren't supposed to do. THERE IS NO ROOT METHOD FOR THE S6 EDGE PLUS! There is no firmware you can download to my knowledge, so you might be screwed, I'm afraid... Also, if KNOX detects that you made changes to the /system partition (most likely what happened here) it will brick your device and there's no way you can fix it. You have to pay for a full replacement ($650 I believe). Let this be your lesson. Only do something to your device if:
1. It's ment for your device
2. It's been proven to work
Once again, sorry if I'm being really rude and unhelpful right now, but, as I said above, there is no root method and I'm sick and tired of people who think they know what they're doing but really don't and then they come crying to us asking to magically fix their device.
Sincerely,
Nick

Yes you are rude and a jerk. And you should be banned from this site. I was about to ask a question, related to this post, but I quit. You did mistakes, you did something you shouldn't do and you did get help from others, I'm 100% sure. But you seems to forgot that, and you get sick of people who needs help. You should see a doctor and get better, if you are so sick. I'm leaving this site, it seems that people who made a mistakes can't fit in. THIS SITE IS POPULATED ONLY BY MASTERS. So, **** off MASTER!

I'm sorry for exercising my first amendment right. You can't ban me for that. Also, I kind of answered this person's question. Here's what I basically said without the ranty parts:
1. There's no way to root this device
2. There's no firmware (at least for the Verizon variant) for this phone.
3. KNOX may have bricked his/her device due to the modification of the /system partition.
1 is the reason, 2 is the answer, and 3 is the explanation. The 3 parts of conducting an effective answer to a question.
OP, your best bet is to try to call Samsung or Verizon and try to lie your way into getting a free replacement. I did that for when I accidentally wiped my entire internal storage on a Kindle Fire 2nd gen. All I said is it all of a sudden started doing what problem I was having, and they said they would send out a free replacement.
Best of luck,
Nick

I have to agree its all over this board that there is no root for this phone as of right now. It should be obviously clear when you go in to the development section and its blank. Just because one carrier has a phone that's rootable doesn't mean the root works on other devices carriers.

This is exactly what I was trying to say. We can all hope that there will be a root method soon, but for now, don't go doing something that you aren't supposed to do to your certain phone yet.

No root at the end of the tunnel

I was just wondering why all the other phones have roots except for the Galaxies?
Some say it is because the providers are locking the bootloader. The question is; are those providers locking the Galaxy bootloader only?
Does anyone think this will make people move from Galaxy to other [rootable] models?
Honestly, this is the first Samsung phone in where I don't think you need root. They allow themes, it's awesome on battery, runs really smoothly, and offers a ton of features that work well. The only reason I ever modded my phone was to increase the longevity and add to it's features... something I haven't really needed on this phone. So I doubt it. I hope they come out with Oreo soon...

Just FYI but if you did a search here on XDA you'd discover that the Snapdragon S8 has had root for a few months now. It's doubtful that we'll see an unlocked bootloader though. Search is your friend!

Thanks for the input. I saw the root, however, I'm debating whether to root or not. The version listed there is older than what we have. And, like Mr. eatmeimadanish mentioned I haven't had a need for rooting so far. It's just I miss the nice ROMs that different people were putting up with so many more tweaks and stuff. And, there are some applications that work on rooted phones, which I'm unable to use anymore.

I haven't rooted either. I'm happy with my S8+ as is. Besides, I use Samsung Pay all the time. Also, without an unlocked bootloader there won't be any custom roms.

I did do a search, but couldn't find something specific to Rooting...

Was the Galaxy S5 the same? Cant remember if it had an unlocked BL

1) S8 Snapdragon root . It looks like it's been cleaned up quite a bit since the last time I saw it. Keep in mind, it's not the easy process that we used to have, so read, read and then read again. I personally have not done it as I'm happy with my S8+ as is.
2) Correct, no unlocked bootloader = No custom ROMs.
3) No, the S5 bootloader was unlocked, which is why we had some great Roms. I miss MOAR, but life changes, I've moved on.
Off the topic but, I remember u Ramer from the S5 MOAR thread. I had that rom on my s5 also. I love my s8+ as well.

I saw the rooting thread, and even downloaded the files. But I'm hesitating if I should root or not. The thread is closed, which means it's not keeping up with the updates. Although, we all say we're happy with the phone as is. But, are we really?

[ROOT] Any Updates on Root?

I currently own the US model of this device. I've done some digging in the forums but I never really come up with very much. If anyone could help I'd be willing to try just about anything to get this phone rooted as long as there's a recovery option. I've read in other threads that the European model can be rooted but the US version has no such luck. If anyone has anymore information please post a reply I would love to get a discussion started. Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, yes your appear to be right. I haven't been able to find anything on this device as far as the U.S. version goes anyway. Apparently, the European version has already been rooted with Magisk and an unlocked bootloader. Although no one has said much of anything about this one. I hope there some development soon!!
A shame these dont yet have bootloader unlock etc.. Its a great phone with Awesome specs on it.
I picked up a Like NEw one for 200.00 (u.s. sprint) version. I use it on t-mobile.

Well it has according to the LG website. Didn't try it out yet.
https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
• LG V50S: LMG850EMW/LMG850EMWX for the European market
This is the LG G8X (check your device info).
We'll probably have to wait for Firehose to be released for LG Snapdragon 855 to have any hopes for unlocking on Non EU variants
No bootloader unlock available? Was checking developer settings and was able to turn on OEM unlock. Would really like to see some AOSP ROMs available for this phone.
I am very glad to be getting replies here. However, US models are still unrootable as far as I can tell its not listed for the US region but is listed for EU. So far no new updates. Please keep the conversation alive though!! Need a developer to start cracking down on this device please!
If anyone knows any developer's willing to work on this device I will quite literally give them payment to develop a working root method for this device. No joke. I'm not very sure how much power developers have over this device. But I would really love to find out.

How would I go about doing this? Not all that familiar with Xda honestly. I rooted my old phone thanks to this site but I wouldn't know how to contact any developers on this subject.
A shame that this high end phone does not yet have root/rom. (in u.s.) You can pick these up fairly inexpensively (on ebay..as I did)
Hope LG is able to get bootloader unlocked one day or I may have to go back to Xiaomi / Oneplus
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well considering this same device is rooted it would likely mean that eventually we will have something. It might take awhile however. The EU version is definitely rooted and even compatible with Magisk having an unlocked bootloader is fantastic. Especially in this time. However since our country is a bit more controlling when it comes to phone data we may not see one until this device is obsolete. Meaning that LG will have made their money on it and therefore feel safe releasing a bootloader unlock officially..

Which phone is best

So I had sprint for years. Had the note 4 until 3 years ago when I switched to the note 9 /U and couldn't root it... very terrible.
So jot tmibile bought sprint and I don't like tmobile. So I'm switching to AT&T which i also don't like but I can add GSM phones so thats my path.
My question is which of the latest Samsung note phones is best for rooting meaning which model number should I buy from Amazon or ebay that can be both rooted and unlocked bootloader?
I was going to do the fold 3 but apparently samsung kills the camera. . Shame...
Rooting isn't necessary or even desirable.
The 10+ running on Pie* is a strong running, very stable phone once optimized.
Next best choice is the 20U.
The Fold3 and S21U are duds with no SD card slot, no spen and/or numerous hardware issues**.
If the 10+ or 20U aren't to your liking wait until next year for the new Note release.
*last good Android OS and with no scope storage, fully supports trusted overlay apks.
**Fold3 hardware issues... wait they're coming
Ok. So I definitely want root and customs roms which means unlocked bootloader.. thank you for the vote of confidence with stock phones but my question was clear and opinion is not an answer to the question. Again, which phone model is best, meaning specific model number, for rooting and roming. I know there are 2 chinees versions of the note 10 and note 20 as well as a few others from other countries meaning non "U" versions, Which is best? Some people just fail to read and answer properly. I wonder wtf is wrong with people... i didnt ask for opinion on non-rootable or otherwise non unlock able bootloaders and clearly was asking for non "U" version yet some daft schmuck says get the U version... duhhh...

Meh, it's a lick on you... do it your way.
Do your homework and go to the appropriate forum for each phone and see what users are able to do. Brain picking is just laziness...
Edit: I could help you but I choose not to... I got a better idea

Well I wouldn't call it laziness... I might instead, call it a request from experience. Some may say well... this model has an unlock able bootloader but only some do while others don't. And maybe this model does have unlocked bootloader but doesn't have many options, while this other model is unlockable usually at&t doesn't accept it. And so on. How did you achieve senior member? Must be by trolling reasonable members... thanks but please shut up on my thread. Go elsewhere and post. Thanks again.
You can unlock the bootloader now on any 9 series us device upto fold 2 s21 provided they on the right bootloader version. Its a paid service but is possible. Root is going strong
