that means , A2017U (USA) and A2017 (Chinese) will get Nougat either this month or the next (December).
I can't say that I'm not a little bit disappointed by hearing January 2017. Being advertised as the first Daydream 'ready' phone, I had my hopes up for an upgrade closer to the Daydream-platform launch today..

If you didn't know Daydream requires Nougat and the phone initially ships with Marshmallow, I can see how that could be interpreted. I just knew it meant it will get Nougat eventually. The chipset is what is important. Older Qualcomm devices cannot support Daydream because they cannot meet recommended performance requirements.
Daydream actually required 7.1 version IMO.
And since 7.1 released couple of weeks ego that's mean
It needs at least 2 months preparation until OEM implement a newer version of Android.
So If US or Chinese version receive it within November/December it will be version 7 and that's not good sign/news at all.
So everyone hope ZTE bring 7.1 version(and NOT 7 i repeat) and doesn't matter who will get it first IMO.
It will be HUGE MISTAKE if ZTE not bring 7.1.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Indeed, let's hope they are skipping 7 and are putting all effort in a good working 7.1.
On official german Facebook page they say Daydream will be supported with Nougat update in January.

As long as ZTE involved to improve it via software.
But until now all Chinese haven't shown any skills for better software processing as for the camera performance.
Even Huawei lacking against top of the top Korean manufacturers despite being involved Leica.

There is a possibility we will see another camera improvement if zte implement camera2api in the nougat update, however i doubt this because the camera2api has been available since lollipop which has been around for years. On the bright side however they said they might add raw support which you need the camera2api for (unless they want to do a lot of coding themselves). So there is a possibility the camera might get better .
I'm getting itchy for a new tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 looks uninteresting, especially for the price. Plus, Samsung is getting more difficult to root. The forthcoming Lenovo Tab 4 10 Plus is interesting, especially for the price. Although I'd have to wait until May.
The real question, is it likely that I'll be able to root the Tab 4? I'm not looking for a guarantee, just an opinion. I've never had a Lenovo android device, so I don't know how they tend to treat this question.

Although, basically every device is Rootable. Lenovo usually keeps their custom version of Android close to stock, so it shouldn't have any problems.
Still no root available?
Hi, I got my Lenovo Tab 4 10 Plus today and it appears there is still no root instruction available. I tried Framaroot and KingRoot but both failed miserably. Towelroot did not even install - but I believe that one works on older Android versions only anyway.
All instructions on the Web are obviously fake and even on the Lenovo board there is nothing usable about the Tab 4...
I believe the Tab 4 is already out since a couple of month now.
Is it really possible that nobody has rooted it so far?
Does somebody here know how to root that tablet?
lenovo Tab 4 8" is a fair Tab. However browser is freezing up on the regular.

The tablet hasn't been released everywhere yet (including the US) so perhaps when it does, there will be a lot of people attempting to find a way to root.

There is no rooting method available for Lenovo tab 4 10 plus. But you can try it with one click root applications available.
None of them works with the Tab 4.

OK, thanks for the clarification! I didn't expect that they release the non-plus and the plus separated... Do you have up to date information when the plus release in the US is planned?
for now, I have tried all the root method none of them working. kingo. iroot. have been google all day.
I am seeking for the method as well, please help.
For Lenovo Tab 4 10 Plus and Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus root is possible by unlocking bootloader, booting (not flahsing) TWRP and flashing SuperSU or Magisk. I made a howto in a german forum. I think matshias (who build TWRP for both devices) make a howto on xda in the near future.

1. You don't need a unlock code from Lenvo. The command fastboot oem unlock-go work without a code.
2. It exists TWRP for the Tablet (I linked it in my howto). The only thing is, better not to flash it, only boot it.
3. see 2.

No, only for the Plus versions. Maybe matshias build sometimes a version for the non Plus.

Would rooting it possibly fix the sdcard issues ( I have a non plus tab)
If you search the Lenovo forums you'll see it mentioned there( mine is doing it also)

Any idea when it's coming out for Verizon?
- R. Kruse Ludington
Galaxy Note 8<-5<-3<-S3<-Nexus; Droid X; HTC HD2<-Touch Pro 2<-Tilt<-8525; O2 XDA II<-XDA
I believe that Oreo will start droping Jan - Feb... T-Mobile and Xfinity first Sprint and Verizon Last...just guessing though...
Beta should be coming soon. For most countries in Europe. But it still is pretty disappointing that S8 got Oreo and Note8 which uses similar hardware didn't. Plus Samsung could support Note users after Note7 failure.
And porting Oreo to N8 from S8 is really difficult. First beta didn't boot for some reason and getting a logcat with Samsungs new security is bit more difficult. Second beta has even more security which makes it even worse.
Did You guys hear that all Oreo devices have to use Project Treble? So once we get official Oreo we can boot Generic AOSP on our phones!
Coolness

Currently it's just disabled in build.prop(S8 beta) but Google requires all manufacturers to use and enable Project Treble. Doesn't seem like any Oreo betas have it. But official releases will be forced to have that. It's not recommended anymore. Now Google forces all manufacturers to use it. Samsung is already using HIDL in Oreo beta which is a good sign. But still. They have to give us Treble. Otherwise Google will be mad lol idk.

Nokia 8 just got Official Oreo and doesn't have Treble . We'll see what Samsung gives us in the final release. But for now I feel like August Nougat is the last update Note8 will ever get.. I'm starting to feel bad for selling my S7 Edge. My friend has S7 and he already runs Oreo on it. I think even Galaxy S2 has Oreo.

I don't think that's how Treble works. The news that XDA had yesterday was that it seemed easier to port an AOSP ROM. You still need to be able to flash it, and as long as the Snapdragon bootloader remains locked, there won't be any custom ROMs for our phones.
The good news for most of us is that security and core Android updates won't be held up by the manufacturers and the carriers.

I'm glad yours is more up to date than my UK Exynos version. I bought it on launch day and had a update that day and that was it. In my opinion that's not good enough for such an expensive phone. But I'm a sucka for Samsung phones so guess I'll just get on with it.
Ps it's not tied to any carrier, so I'm waiting for a update directly from Samsung.

The only notable difference between the two devices seems to be the camera and processor. Camera isn't a concern for me cause I don't use it much but processor and developer support (read custom rom support) is very essential. So which one shall I buy?

If you can, you should just go directly for the 5 Pro, but stocks will be hard to come by for the coming months as it is kinda hot right now. The Note 5 does everything and isn't slow, but the 5 pro does it much better with the upgraded processor. Mostly the hardcore users would notice the performance difference from both. For day to day use, both do them quite well, as well as battery life.
Also. Even if you don't use the camera much, it will still provide better pictures for the times that you use them.
Custom Rom support would be good for this device as most Redmi users that look for an upgrade would buy this phone, chances are developers would join in too.
Overall, the 5 Pro is superior in some aspects, but the 5 Plus isn't something to scoff at either. It would depend on whether you think the upgrade is right for the price as both do quite well with their arsenal of specifications.

That's probably due to the fact that the Note 5 AKA 5 Plus has been out for a month longer before the Pro, but I'm pretty sure the Pro will catch up to the Rom supports.
Also, enjoy the 5 Pro. If only I knew they would release the 5 Pro, I would've waited, but sadly my z00a gave up on me so I had to buy the 5 Plus rather hastily.

No, I'm from PH actually. There are a lot of resellers locally and online, although ours here orders them from China directly through a supplier. It was pre installed with the fake global rom but Bootloader was unlocked so I was able to flash the EU rom.
You'd be lucky if you can buy it right now since it usually ends up out of stock. But maybe it was just in India.

Most probably, since they have to install the Vendor rom which, AFAIK, would update itself automatically to the global version when it officially releases.
Well, that's good since it's an India first phone release, units would be high per restock there. Hope you get yours bud.

How long will this get major Android updates for? How much longer for security updates? I feel like the answer to this is maybe a year and no more at all. Did this launch with 9 and get 10?
Would you recommend this vs Samsung S20 FE (g8x 439 CAD vs S20fe $650)
Thx

It was launched on Android 9 and already received Android 10 and will get Android 11 for sure.
Drawback is LG hasn't allowed unlocking bootloader yet so no custom rom support as of now. May be in future it will get.
