How's Motorola's Android 10 software?
Very clean. I only really had to uninstall Facebook.
How's the battery life, what screen on time you get?
About the speakers , are they really dual and also does it have gestures navigation?
Battery life is awesome. I get over 9 hours screen on time easily but your mileage may vary on how you use your phone. Yes speakers are dual and are very impressive for the price. Yes there is gestures navigation.

Can't you print screenshot on battery life and screen on time?
this phone easy lasts me a day of intensive video watching on 4g at high brightness so my usage can be inconsistent compared to some who stick to WiFi, have their screen on min brightness. I'm skeptical of posting SOT as you may think that's very poor whereas in fact for your usage it might be extremely good
How's your reception? What network are you using? Is there WiFi calling on it? I'm on 3 UK and struggle to find a phone with WiFi calling...
I still have a moto Z Play, but it is getting on a bit now and the g8 power/g power looks very promising!
How's the performance?

Reception fine on the UKs crappiest network,3.
No WiFi calling.
Performance is very good for no issues in general use that may lag on the m30s
I find 3 to be good for me, when I'm not at home (no network has signal here) I almost always have good reception.
I bought a pixel 2 XL second hand and it has awful reception.
Shame about WiFi calling... I'd buy one straight away otherwise
Software-Problem is solved.

I switched to my Moto G8 power 2 days ago because my previous phone Poco F1 had trouble with battery and motherboard. First impressions after 20 H from last charge and with 5,5 h SOT are very pleasent - 45% battery remaning still.
As far as everyday usage is concerned I am supreised how well it runs - not as fast as Poco but the user experiance is on par. On poco f1 animations used to be laggy from time to time.
The camera can produce a very nice and sharp picture however i always have to tinker with the settings to get a better result - the camera oever all is quite capable .

after the first charging i was disappointed but after the 4. charging the battery-capacity is better then beginning.
now i get 10 - 11 hours SOT - 3 to 4 days for me
display-brightness 85 %- german vodafone as provider, energy-saving-mode on, dark theme, 8 h mobile data on and 8 h. wifi on at one day. 1 h bluetooth on and listening music via bluetooth, whatsapp, browsing, some simple card-games and taking photos every day
Ordered mine on friday, 8 days ish to wait but the price was good.
As for wifi calling, i've never found much difference call wise.
i'm wondering how many people already got it, it's very quiet here and would expect some more activity.
I had to figure out the rooting process by myself,
with all my previous phones there was a huge fan base already at the time of purchase so everything came easy

after searching a bit, the moto camera 2 app is version 7.2.79.18-logan
apparently ar stickers is an old name for the current google playground,
it is not installed by default as that belongs to google phones ( the pixel for example) , but i did find some articles that it is possible to get it working on most devices, see:

Thanks for checking. Many Motorola phone actually do support Google's AR Stickers/Playground in the Moto Camera app, but it looks like that support hasn't been added yet for your device.
Hey! I bougt mine on last Friday 13th in Argentina, retar. Amazing battery life. Two questions here:
1. Can I add other official roms to my retar device? for example retla or reteu roms?
2. Is this the place to post things about Moto G8 power stuff? Because this is for Moto G Power but XDA has no G8 power sub-forum.
Can someone confirm if it supports 5GHz 802.11 n wifi? My partner has one and only seems to find 2.4GHz.

Mine went off the charger at 11pm, Thursday, Aug 28. Lite usage through Monday, Sept.1
At 1am I had 38% or 10h 25m remaining.
On a typical work week, I get 2 1/2 days on one charge, with the power saver set to "normal",

Hi! Can I just do a quick check with u regards the China version. Is it the one that's with their in house processor? And if they come with gapps installed? And the lte band? I for sure can't use the US version in Singapore but I read some specs that the China version lte band may be compatible here.

You must choose MT2-L05 version in order to get LTE working in Singapore. It is with Huawei in house Kirin processor which different from US Snapdragon 400. You just need to download Google.apk and installed on this China version HAM2.

Hi! PMed. Thanks!
The battery life on this phone is like nothing I've ever seen from a phone or tablet. It's absolutely incredible.
This is with 3h30m of OST, time with no signal on the subway, listening to music, and otherwise heavy usage.

I got a rooted mate 2. what do you want me to do now?... IDK what that is. but I have my hotspot on all the time which usually kills any phone but this phone holds on strong. i get like 12 hours of tether and also moderate phone use .Its at the point where I do not even care about my battery any more. Before when i got into my Jeep id plug in my phone for a road trip or whatever and now it just stays in my pocket or cup holder.

Nearly 9 hours off charge. 1 hour of listening to radio/podcasts. Other time spent Checking emails and looking at Web.. .. .. I am currently at 86%. I will not charge it until I get down to near zero.... We will see how long it lasts. I'm guessing sometime on Saturday, lol. I will let you know.
Battery Test
I quit my battery test once I hit the 2 day mark. Let me start off by saying I did this test on a week day so I'm not limited to my lazy day weekend phone usage. I'm in the I.T. field so i'm a power user when it comes to smartphones. My phone is my central hub to my life. The things I use daily and can not live without is phone, text, EMAIL, Facebook, Dropbox, my flash light widget, Evernonte, Google Maps, Amazon, eBay, Pandora, and Camera. I know that sounds like a lot but I promise you I access every one of those apps on a daily basis at least twice a day. (flash light for dark places behind desks or when on the porch at night). I have the power setting to "Endurance". Keep in mind I followed the correct profile settings also. The only two I used out of the four is Normal and Sleep (the other two is meeting and outdoor). I also kept my screen brightness on Auto for most of the time unless I was playing a game or watching youtube. At night around 1 am when I usually go to sleep I turned my phone on "sleep" profile which turns off everything except phone, and text. Which I want left on in case my 82 year old grandmother needs to call me in the middle of the night for some emergency (or my brother gets arrested, lol). When I woke up I simply turned my profile back to normal which you can set to the way you like. I kept mine on the original settings. That being said I did not use my phone like it was under some battery test trying to screw with the results. My brother and I have had many phones in the past and all the batteries do not live up to the description. After 2 days of being off the charger. I woke up with 28% on the 3rd day and could not wait no longer to charge it because the power manager said I have another 9 hours of charge left. I prob could have made it through another work day but being the techie I am can not afford to have my phone die. My brother has a Note 3 right now and he swears i'm tweaking my phone to get these results. (hahah Samsung Sucker, I'm an LG Fan). I attached some pics of my Battery Stats. This phone is a flagship for all smartphones. I can't wait to see next years phone. I thought the display would be a little upsetting because its not 1080p but after doing a test next to my brothers note 3 with all out power saving settings off and screen on 100% brightness his phone only looked a little better then mine. like so little that he was getting upset. hahah kept giving me excuses of how the video is not really HD or its streaming different or bla bla bla. after 10 videos he was still talking sh*T. I was cracking up. This phone is actually brighter then the Note 3 which makes it look almost as clear.
As a Note I use Mobile hotspot in my car all the time because I have an in-dash Android Tablet as my radio and I need wi-fi to listen to Pandora and Spotify. I used hotspot about 4 hours within the 2 day test.
I also used in the two days that would consume battery:
Pandora - 2 hours
Hot-spot- 4 Hours
YouTube- 30 Minutes
Games - 30 mins
Facebook- random check ins all day
XDA Free- random check ins all day
Text (screen time) no way to guess. I text all day. hahahaha
Play with settings- 2 hours
Live wallpaper - sucks power ( I had it on)
Some reviews reporting terrible SOT with Redmi Note 2. Share your gsam and thoughts.
The first few ROMs were poor. On the 5.9.18 developer ROM from xiaomi.EU (multi language version of official China Developer ROM) the most I've been getting is between 4 and 5 hours. I'm using a different launcher and widgets now though which probably doesn't help the situation. It's certainly a lot worse than my little Jiayu G4S which has a similar sized battery, 4.7" screen an older SoC. It's a shame that I now have a mediatek device with decent GPS but I have to use it sparingly if I'm out cycling. Doh!
Hmm.. Thank you for your reply. It sounds manageable but somewhat disappointing. Any other reports are welcome.
I'm lucky if I manage 3 . On the latest developer with Google Apps installed installed. This is greenify and low screen brightness.
Just can't seem to get over three hours.
Any tips would be great.
Why would you even use Greenify when MIUI has multiple battery saving options already built-in? I can get 4-5 SOT with 2 SIM cards, 3G/4G, wifi on, internet browsing, texting, GPS and sync on. No gaming, though. Also depends how long it's idle.
Sent from my Redmi Note 2
Will give it a try. Uninstalled greenify. Will see how I get on.
Uninstalled greenify. Not much difference. Have now wiped my device and fresh installed 5.9.24 xiaomi beta and I've got my first 4 hours screen on time since getting my device.
5.9.18 usually 4.5-6 H SOT
Who makes your screen? 80% of my battery drain is my screen. Only got it on 20% screen brightness. Getting 18 hours system time and at very most 4 hours (usually just over three). Do you have sync turned on?
Tianma, sync turned off, also using contrast in standard mode. Now since I plugged off my phone from the charger, I'm using it all the time with 1.5h screen on and still have 86% battery.
Also I'm running Polish MIUI ROM, which is based on chinese ROM.

Using china rom 6.7.10.10 and greenify, I got 16 hours total, including 5 hours SOT and 2 hours talk time. The rom is very good, but the tianma's panel is really a battery hog.
Hi guys, still waiting for my phone. Maybe still one more week. Reading many thread about battery consumption it seems this is really a disappointing point for this phone.
Did you manage ton improve it with latest ROM?
Some people did require to perform battery recalibration. Did you try that?
Take care guys.

Just got this for 3 days.
All day 3G minimal wifi. Browsing mostly.
Friends. We find a solution for battery life. If you use mobile them forums for browsing,or whatsapp etc. use 2g . When will you use twitter, instagram etc switch 2g to 3g. My friends take 5-6 hour screen time. So If somebody make 2g-3g toggle or widget for Miui it would be AWESOME. Thanks.
Also when you use WIFI then change your preffered network type to 2G. It will impact your battery life however doesnt use mobile data.
I am getting quite bad battery life.
MIUI 7.
At home all day with strong signal.
On WIFI all day.
Almost no calls, bit of texting, 30 minutes of bluetooth music and some light gaming.
I expected better! With my old Sony Z2 i would still be at 65% with these kind of stats.
And here is my other Xiaomi product with excellent battery life, i mean WOW! http://i.imgur.com/zyRO2UE.png
well every time a new phone comes out, early reviews are mixed with some having terrific batter while others are having a dreadful one. Theres only one way to have a scientific approach to measure a battery life, and it is to use a standardized test on the phone with most commonly used settings on and others off and no applications installed etc. Since that is hard to do lets just use a poll.. Whats your uptime, SOT and some major setttings...like below
UPTIME: 24hours
SOT: 6H15mn
Connectivity: LTE
Settings: Auto brightness, gmail sync
also put up screenshots of the battery tab so we can see the usage, not just people just starring at a black screen
thanks for voting guys but its also crucial that you post the infos as described that way we can help fellow members with bad battery life

This can't be accurate; the GSM signal power and quality differs for every user and it's an important factor to consider. If I use my phone in two different locations in my city I'll have different results.

Yes there are many factors that impact the battery life unless we all run the same battery benchmark on airplane mode with default configuration and no apps installed, battery life is not comparable but it's just to get an average
The new chip is just bad. This won't get fixed.
You can try to use a custom battery savings mode and just enable the CPU limiter, it'll cap performance to the S8 but battery will be quite a lot better.
I can get a day or more but its no match for the Mate 10 Pro I had before
Sorry but won't post any screenshot as I have to put in charge everyday around 3 pm, unplugged at 7 am, to make sure battery will last til the end of the day =(
My previous 3 phones were S8+, Note 8 and Iphone X, all I can say is that S9+ battery life is much worse compared to the 3 of them.
Expecting an update to fix that, if it doesn't come in the next 10 days I'll return my handset.

You realise leaving it charging over night knackers the battery because it keeps trying to top up which over time puts a lot of extra wear and tear on it

The more it consumes internet over mobile data the power decreases. However, good at all

I don't want to disappoint you. But my previous phone was S8+. Unfortunately with the official update to Oreo the battery performances was a little bit worse than S9+.
Agree with the fact that with Android 7 Galaxy s8+ had a better battery life. But with Oreo... that's another story.

I have the SD variant S9+ and I'm in the very bad battery life camp.
I am also in the bad battery camp... I can get about 2-3 hours of SOT before it just craps out and I just spent 800$ on this thing. I'm ready to return it myself.
I'm on exynos and really enjoying my battery life. Anywhere between 5.5 - 7.5hrs sot depending on how I use the phone.

Standby time is amazing, too. 9 hours overnight used only 5%.
The battery life for this phone is good. The standby battery life is not great. I don't get a good signal at my job, so when I get in I cut off my data. With the data off, the phone is still draining battery.
However, if I'm in a good signal area or on Wi-Fi, I can get 6-7hours sot.

Just have a look at the below videos. Unfortunately, that's how the batterylife & performance of the Exynos version is, just like mine. Unless you tweak it with so many tweaks and workarounds(search the forum, there are many tweaks if you like to consider) like many others here, there isn't much hope unless Samsung seriously considers resolving this which is unlikely.
Yes it is correct the battery life on this s9plus is pathetic,
Even on my phone the android system is taking major amount of battery ,
I tried factory resetting my phone a few times but no luck .

Your Android System is particularly high at 21% compared to your SOT.
Noticed that you're on 3G, it consumes battery a lot more compared to 4G.
How's the mobile coverage at your area?

my cpu frequency is stuck at 1.79 and this is why my phone is lagging and heating and draining battery .
is there any way to check what is spiking the cpu so much ?
i checked in cpu process app and it says system server is taking the cpu .
any technical person who could help .

Your Android System is particularly high at 21% compared to your SOT.
Noticed that you're on 3G, it consumes battery a lot more compared to 4G.
How's the mobile coverage at your area?

I thought LTE consumed more battery than 3G... The reason was a problem with the network. Fixed now so I'm back on 4G. Lets see if it makes a difference
Well love the phone but the battery is the worst I've seen so far for the price u pay. People focus o SOT time but I do the same as on my old iPhone 7 plus but with the iPhone would last from awake to bed time with one charge S9 plus 2 times at least and with though about running out all the time. Shame brilliant phone.
I'm having great battery life on my Exynos 9+. See the attached screenshot.
Only disabled Bixby and AOD.
I use Facebook, Messenger, Snapchat, WhatsApp, GPS high accuracy and sync one Gmail and one IMAP.
For testing purpose I decided to run the whole day with medium battery saver activated, but modified to only restrict the CPU and lower the brightness a bit. That means still running max. resolution and syncing in the background.
Right now the phone still has 36% battery left with:
- 18 hours 33 minutes since unplugged
- 6 hour 30 minutes SOT (That is potentially 10 hours SOT with 24 hours since unplugged!)
- 10 minutes phone call.
Besides my regular usage pattern, I've also played a game a lot on this charge.
No complaints here yet, im getting 5hrs SOT and have only done a few charge cycles so i expect that to improve.
Im getting close to what i do on my pixel 2 xl so in my eyes thats impressive

I had an Exynos S8+, and battery life on that was pretty bad, with Android System also taking up more juice than the Screen. Now I'm on a Snapdragon S9+, and dare I say battery life has almost doubled. Android System battery usage is way below Screen battery usage.
Two steps which fixed the battery drain for me :
1. Changing the Location Settings from "High Accuracy" to "Battery Saving" {You can find this in Settings -> Connections -> Location}
2. Using 2.4Ghz WiFi instead of 5Ghz WiFi channel. My Router is a Dual Band Router and somehow when I connect to the 5Ghz Channel, the battery drain is almost doubled. Sticking to the 2.4Ghz Channel improves the standby time by quite a lot.
Hope this helps.

Where can I find the ability to switch this Wifi frequency to 2.4 GHz? thx?
The culprit is most prolly Google Play Services.

It's router specific. It only matters if you have a DualBand Router and you opted to connect to the 5Ghz Band.
Few reports of battery life not as good on the BOE devices, let's try and get a better picture of what's happening.
I now have a BOE.
While I can get through a day of good usage I'm sure it was better on my first device with an LG screen.

How do you know the manufacturer of the screen?
I didn't expect their to be a difference in battery life between the two devices due to screen manufacturing. However I replaced my device with a BOE screen. This is day one for me and I will monitor and see how things end up in terms of battery life. The screen quality is much better though with the BOE

When you remove an app from the protected apps list, your phone will close the app automatically when you turn off the screen to save batterry."
Andriod noob here. I feel i have the same issue.
My last phone was a iphone x, used phone clone to transfer pictures and contacts to my new mate20pro.
Installed all the apps i needed and i instantly loved the phone, fast and so much battery life. I didnt mess with any battery settings, wifi and 4g always on, brightness auto, auto updates and highest screen res.
I was watching twitch for like 4 hours straight and used very little battery.
Unfortunatly i had a LG screen and got the green edges. So i got a new phone with BOE screen (checked with the hw app) . Transfered everything via phone clone and i instantly felt like something was wrong. I really feel like the battery is draining fast. Turned off auto updates and been messing around with the app launch settings. Just installed gsam battery monitor pro. Will post picture. Any help is welcome.

Hm, AnandTech review suggested that LG panel have high standby power use.
My new BOE Mate 20 pro has the same battery life of the previous 6 LG ones. 8hrs SOT to 10 depending on useage.
I'm still not convinced I'm getting anywhere near the same battery time.
I've got 5hrs SOT + 1hr 45 of Talk time and I'm down to 23%. Wish I had recorded either of my previous returns (LG) to compare against.

It wouldn't make so much difference..
Screen on time with 43% battery left, used GPS for 30 minutes, 20 minutes of YouTube, Slotomania game for 30 minutes. 3 short phone calls.
Pretty amazing I think.
Today's usage, been watching YouTube, and 3 hours of tv shows with Huawei video player. ?
Have you changed any settings or apps out of box? I barely got 7 hours today just browsing and YouTube with a few camera shots and 30 min talk time... Seems definitely lower than my LG screen. Oh and which resolution are you using? I'm full quad HD highest res possible.

I'm using full quad HD, vivid colours, default. All other applications are set to battery optimisation except for playstore, play services, glasswire, zetatorrents.
Everything else is pretty much standard out of the box.
Thanks and were you on Wi-Fi most the day as opposed to LTE?

Awesome, thanks. I've only had my phone a day and a half so 7 hours was still pretty good today though I was on LTE most of the day. I'm thinking it will get a little better in a day or so as everything settles in.

How can I do that?
Well, my experience is the same. I had two LG screen Mate 20 pro units and while the green glow was a nightmare, I never had any issues with battery life. I was surprised that the battery test result on GSM Arena was not good at all...
Then I got my replacement phone with BOE screen and while the screen is ok compared to the "green lantern" LG screen, it goes nowhere near the two devices I had in terms of battery life. The standby drain is enormous, screen on time only around 3-4 hours and the features most draining the battery is mobile signal and wifi and screen in hardware. I needed no optimization with my 2 LG units, while I hibernate apps here when screen off, I also switched off autosync, but still my standby drain overnight (approx. 6-7 hours) is about 12-16 per cent, which is another nightmare considering how majority of reviews boasted with super amazing battery life - and every reviewer got a Boe screen version of the phone I reckon, at least in our country. When I take it off the charger, I lose a percent every 5-7 minutes I have the screen on. I do not get it but it is a real disappointment. Today I switched off automatic 4g-3g-2g because my signal at home is rather poor, but I did not do anything with the LG unit and when I charged to 100 before I went to bed, I woke up 7 hours later with still 100...
