Hi,
I've tried making this inquiry in the normal support.google.com forums and (for no particular reason) then tried stackoverflow for the last couple days, but I get no replies. I've even asked for suggestions where to post this thread. Perhaps the topic is relevant here? If not, I'd appreciate a tip on where to move it. That said...
An HTML5 ePaper I read has a function that lets us open a single article and send a url/link in an email from that open article. When I hit the article's typical Android "share" icon, and then select "Use my browser's Email Client" from that form, I can choose Gmail or Outlook. The problem is that when I select Gmail, the url in the email gets truncated and doesn't work.
Here's an (imitation) url in the Outlook email that works:
https://news-paper.com/?publink=2c7e0cc11_2457643
Notice that there's a unique identifier (ie. "=2c7e0cc11_2457643") after the word "publink" in that url.
However, when I select Gmail to handle the newspaper article, the url in the email gets truncated and doesn't work. In an (imitation) email it looks like this:
https://news-paper.com/?publink
Notice there's NO unique identifier (ie. "=2c7..." ) after the word "publink" in the url.
Any idea what is going wrong here with Gmail truncating the url? I'd like to help the ePaper publisher's tech support people fix this, or better yet, give the link to this thread so they can discuss this coder to coder.
Again, please advise if there is a more appropriate venue to post this issue. I appreciate your help.
Regards...

Hey guys,
Just changed to the S2 after years of iPhone use. Found it a little tricky, but these forums are great and have solved loads of my questions.
The only thing I can't seem to find the answer to is a problem when opening Word Document Email attachments in K9 or Improved Mail. If I click 'Open' at the bottom of the email, it just says "This document cannot be opened". If I hit 'Save' and find the attachment in My Folders, then it opens up no problems using Polaris.
Have tried a few other Office Viewers, but the formatting doesn't work anywhere near as well as Polaris, so I'm hoping there's some hidden setting I'm missing in order to allow it to open straight from the email.
On the upside, I'm loving the S2 compared to my iPhones!
Thanks in advance for your help
Hi,
firstly, let me introduce myself:
My name is Tony and from my signature and amount of posts, you can see, I am a very active XDA user and used to do a lot of first and second level support for the blueangel and the blackstone and today my SGS2 arrived, which is my first native android phone. As soon, as i figured out all the tiny beginner's questions, i will start supporting this awesome device for all you fellow users out there.
But for now, excuse me, that I have to ask a few stupid questions that I encountered while setting up the device:
1. My phone is set to English (US) and my keyboard and voice input options are set to German (so that writing or voice inputting sms and german addresses are easier). However, Vlingo does not exactly support the dual language and sometimes produces problems when reading out english information, anybody else experiencing mixed language problems there? any advice?
2. i decided to set my up contacts from scratch. i put in all the correct formal names for my contacts, but when i connect these users to their respective facebook accounts (who are sometimes based on nicknames), the display name automatically changes to the facebook name, while i prefer the formal name. is there a way to change it?
3. contacts allow me to add several im accounts, e.g. ICQ. when i click the icq# of a user, it opens up im and states that only windows live, google talk and yahoo are supported. is there a way to either connect that to the official icq for android, or add other messengers to the stock im? if not, why bother inputting all the information, if one cannot use it?
i wonder why nobody else seems to experience problem #2.
i found it again here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067
apparently, when you connect contacts through one or more platforms, like facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype... and there names vary, your contacts app will always prefer the last name with the latest letter in the alphabet. in my case, there is one contact first name r. last name b., but one facebook, he goes by another variation of his name, "zu b.", so contacts prefers the facebook name, as z is greater than b. there is no logical reason why facebook names should be preferred to the phone's own stored name. after all, i entered those names because i wanted to find the contacts by that name. why does the phone tell me, my choices are no good and facebook's are better?
strike issue #1 and #3, i will find a workaround some time, but it would be extremely nice, if someone could check if this contacts issue is present in their device and firmware?
i have ke7 dbt (latest german stock rom).
My nexus one does the same thing. If I sync contacts with Facebook it changes to their Facebook displayed name. I'm still not clear on exactly how it does it too.
i tried several ways of bypassing the issue, starting by assuming the sorting of contacts would be determined by the regular ascii order of letters, or linux's, so i tried renaming every contact to minuscules, so R.B. -> r.b. which didn't help and i wouldn't even bother starting any contact with z or any symbol, as that would render the letter navigation bar on the right useless.
so the only way i could bypass the issue was to sort and display contacts by first name. after many years of windows mobile use i'm having trouble getting used to it but apparently, there is no other way so far.
if anyone else has trouble with this, please go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067 and star the issue and post your experiences.
There was a thread here a while back about this issue. Basically, every post or picture I send to Facebook through the people or picture hubs goes in with "only me" privacy.
The previous fix was to edit the permissions of the Windows phone app on facebook but this app no longer exists so I can't do that. I've tried many permutations of deleting the Microsoft app from facebook, my windows love association and the facebook account from my phone then starting again (in various orders and permutations). I've even tried logging in with my facebook.com e-mail address and nothing is fixing it. I've sent a request to FB asking for guidance and nothing yet so if anyone has anything to suggest that would be great.
It's beginning to get annoying as it's a great feature for WP.
Greetings from the Skyrocket forum. I'm looking for a little help for a friend who has a problem receiving her Comcast.net email on her phone through the native app. When she puts in her mail info, she gets this response "Can't safely connect to Comcast servers."
I have searched this forum by a variety of search terms including "email", "comcast email", "comcast", etc. I'm coming up empty handed. A google search seems to show that there's been quite a bit of questions asked about this but as for the specific answer, if there is one, I can't find it.
Has anyone with Comcast.net email and an S3 found that they cannot include that account, or is there or has a workaround been found, preferably aside from using another email client.
Thanks for your time and hopefully, answers!
I've taken a lot of pictures while on holiday, and although their geotagged location is shown and placed on Google maps I would like to be able to share these maps with an option to find these locations via GPS.
To reiterate: I can share the maps with the pictures but there doesn't seem to be anyway of getting directions to them.
Can anyone suggest an app or a way of doing this?
You're going to have to go into more detail because I dont understand the issue.
disclaimer - I am on a custom rom...
But if I open a photo in gallery, and do a "view on map", It loads in google maps app. If I then click into the location, I can share it (as a link).
This link opens in google maps app or opens google maps on any computer browser and "get directions" can be used.
If this isn't what you're talking about, please be more explicit about what you are asking and how you want to do things, because I dont understand
Also, please pst questions in the Q&A section

I've taken pictures on holiday and geotagged them with the GPS.
I have uploaded them to Picasa which has placed them on Google maps at the geotagged locations.
I can share the folder with friends, and they can view my map with my pictures shown at the locations.
However.
Although they can see the geotagged locations of each picture on the map, they cannot get directions to them.
Oh and as this is not a ROM issues I believe this belongs in here under 'General Chat'
All questions in relation to the S3 go in Q&A. General is not for questions.
Although, your question has nothing to do with the S3 or even android at all. Your question is a picasa question
But you're right, Picasa provides no way of doing this. I was frustrated earlier this month when I geotagged some photos I took with my SLR and uploaded them to picasa.
Once in Picasa, the best option I can suggest is click the "Full details" link which gives you the longitude and latitude, which if you paste into google maps, becomes something you can get directions to.... Its not very good. A glaring omission I'd say.
If you had a Google+ account, your picasa albums would convert into that instead and when you share from Google+, the point on the map is clickable and opens in google maps, with "Get Directions"

No it doesn't, I've explained this to you both via a report closing message and a PM, I don't think it needs discussing further frankly.

Sorry I've only just seen your report and thank you for moving it into the correct area :good:
So a few Months down the line is there any new/updated apps/services that can give you directions to Geotagged photos?
Basically I do a lot of exploring, and would love to be able to convert geotag information to directions that I can share with other people
Nothing since Google+ as in my last post.
