Phone wont boot into system recovery any more by holding vol up and power on buttons, so I cant flash a rom. running 2.1. The other day did a hard reset, because it changed to chines in the settings section. Is that some kind of virus? Is back to English now. Is there another work round to install Rom's or fix this?

Does your volume up button work for anything else, in other words can you raise the volume when booted up?
You can use ROM Manager (free on market) to backup, restore, and to flash ROMs, and you can use Quick Boot (also free on market) to reboot directly into recovery. In other words, select Quick Boot, choose Recovery and it'll shut down your Eris and boot into Recovery.
If you decide to use ROM Manager and have questions, feel free to ask here and I'll do the best I can.

Just wanted to make sure that you are aware of the various ways to boot into recovery... Please pardon if this information is repetitious or not new to you.
Of course, there's volume-up and power like you've already tried. There's also volume-down plus power which will take you to the HBOOT screen from which you can select recovery with volume-up. Of course, if you have the Android SDK installed, you can use the "adb reboot recovery" command too.
XDA's bftb0 posted some information over on AF regarding why some phones won't boot into recovery with volume-up plus power:
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/205697-notes-recovery-booting-1-5-vs-2-1-otas.html
Also, here's something I posted over on AF with a little more detail about booting into recovery:

Sounds like you don't have (or no longer have) a custom recovery installed.
Have you tried re-rooting?
I did the root with z4 root. is there a way to instalol a a custom recovery installed or put onr there for it to read?

Well, I don't how z4 root works, but I do know that jcase's 1-click root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228) will install Amon_RA's custom recovery.
There's various ways to get a custom recovery installed, but it depends on the current state and history of your phone.
You might want to first try the 1-click method mentioned above--its probably your easiest and quickest method to at least try.

Thank you scary alien !!!! This one worked ! ( but I do know that jcase's 1-click root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228) will install Amon_RA's custom recovery.) The vol up and power did not, but i installed the (hot reboot ) app and checked of boot in recovery mode and Upon using this hot reboot , it does now, but it would not work until I installed your fix that you suggested.
I have successfully rooted my HTC aria running android 2.2 with sense interface. Now i want to install custom ROMs. I have installed ROM manager and tried installing CM7 but i cannot boot into Clockwork recovery mode. I have tried installing clockwork several times but it doesn't work. I have checked out few other forums but none of them seem specific to my case. Please help!
Do yo phone have a fast boot feature if so uncheck it then reinstall Rom manager then try to reboot into recovery if this help hit the thanx button #)

Did you use Revolutionary on the device? Did it acknowledge that it was successful in flashing custom recovery to your device?
The proper way to reach CWM is to turn the device completely off, then hold down the volume down button and press the power button. From that screen you should select "Recovery" by using volume up/down buttons to move and power button to select. Don't use ROM Manager to install or get to Clockworkmod.
i do not have a fast boot option, thanks for replying though.
If you dont see fastboot.... Then you are not rooted. Try the process again.
You should be able to power off the phone, then hold the down volume button while powering on the phone.
Then you should see fastboot and recovery. If you don't see either, then the root process was unsuccessful.

Well... It looks like what I said worked.
This could have been fixed in one simple post.
Instead, the guy just got the usual runaround.

I'm not trying to start anything here but, I don't see how this could have helped. Fastboot and HBOOT are always in place no matter if you're rooted or not.
DOUCHE!
I havent seen a stock hboot in nearly a year. But no one here asked him to boot into it, hence "how it helped" stop trolling MOD EDIT: REMOVED OFFENSIVE
I suggest that you re-read this thread. I told him how to get to HBOOT before you even posted, yet you attack me for giving him the run around?
sure did.
Not really... If I "attacked" you, then you would be in pain.
Surely you aren't taking this **** THAT seriously.
Let it go, and move on now. I will as well.

Hi! Whenever i try to flash a ROM i go into the Android one, not clockword mod recovery. Can someone give me a tutorial/help me? Thanks!
I'm assuming you already used Odin to put CWM on your phone?
You need to press the volume up/down keys + the power button all at the same time to get it to come up.
This is a pretty good thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309293

Sorry if this causes some work, but I never used Odin to put CWM in. A guide would be really nice, if you would spare the time.
Go look at the thread I posted, it has a video with step by step instructions on what you need to do...

Is there a difference from doing it that way or just holding my power button down and selecting recovery?
No, but if you're stock I don't think you'll have that option. I suppose it depends on what you flashed to get CWM on your phone in the first place.
Thanks! I just got my phone and have unnamed so that option is there when i hold pwr button. Just wanted to make sure it was the same.
I recently purchased an atrix from a friend that was already updated to 2.3.6 and i successfully rooted it. After that i was under the impression i needed to unlock the bootloader to be able to get a shiny new rom on it. I followed the instructions given by G-Man in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26956828#post26956828
Now all i get is a FAILED TO BOOT 0x1000 screen. Im afraid to do anything else from here and risk bricking and flushing a few hundred bucks down the toilet
Can i flash the official 4.5.141 sbf?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Edit: RESOLVED+Wrong area for post.
Sorry guys i apologize! :/
fisrt:u post in wrong place like this
second:u should go to general thread and find auto unlock bootloader to unlock,u are in softbrick now, that tool have softbrick repair so dont worry
sorry i think your phone hard brick
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160408
Sorry for being a noob!
You're right... i apologize.
Yes i found it... thank you very much for the direction.
so have u unsoftbrick your phone?,that tool is very easy for us to unlock bootloader and flash CWM recovery
Yes i did, its an amazing tool!!
to get into CWM do i have to use a button combo or do i need to download rom manager?
Button combination is the safest way, and works every time.
I personally prefer not to use Rom Manager for anything other then replacing (Updating) the recovery. In many custom roms there is a possibility to reboot the device straight to recovery, in the reboot menu.
Enjoy

Here is an answer for the button combination.
As for a recommended rom, I am using now MorriSoft v1.0, but any CM7 based rom will do the job.
Have fun
Pshhhhhhh. Try Joker's CM9 if you can deal with the video cam and orientation issues. ICS is a joy over Gingerbread.

Hey. I've downgraded from Nougat to Marshmallow using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/downgrade-7-0-to-6-0-1-lg-g5-h850-t3511930. I've tried to install TWRP but the button combination doesn't work. I've followed the instructions to the letter, I've pulled out the battery, kept volume down pressed all the time etc., etc. I've tried different timings. Before the downgrade I was able to get into TWRP easily. My volume down button works, I've checked that. I'm able to get into the display IMEI mode (both VOL UP and VOL DOWN pressed down) and into the download mode. I can get into stock recovery with adb. I've upgraded back to Nougat, then reflashed boot and stock (Nougat version ofc) and then tried everything again but to no avail. I would appreciate any help.
Additional note: I've tried 3.0.2-0 and 3.0.2-1 on Marshmallow and 3.0.2-1 on Nougat.
EDIT: I have 2 ideas. First, manually reflash all the paritions from the unpacked KDZ. Second, use the Dirty Cow. First one will take time, but should be safe. Second one will probably take even longer, since I'm not really good with Linux and this method wasn't designed for H850, though it should work, unless LG patched it in Nougat.
EDIT 2: Most partitions are unflashable (FAILED (remote: cannot flash this partition in unlocked state)).

When you see the LG logo you have to let go of the power button and immediately press it again, then it should work. Takes a bit of practice sometimes

Come on, mate. I've made it very clear that I know how to do it, don't give me the obvious tips.

I don't really think that you can talk about about proper attitude and call people dickheads at the same time. It's one thing when you try to help but your solution doesn't work and it's another when you post a solution that's clearly not going to work from the start.
