Hey. I've downgraded from Nougat to Marshmallow using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/downgrade-7-0-to-6-0-1-lg-g5-h850-t3511930. I've tried to install TWRP but the button combination doesn't work. I've followed the instructions to the letter, I've pulled out the battery, kept volume down pressed all the time etc., etc. I've tried different timings. Before the downgrade I was able to get into TWRP easily. My volume down button works, I've checked that. I'm able to get into the display IMEI mode (both VOL UP and VOL DOWN pressed down) and into the download mode. I can get into stock recovery with adb. I've upgraded back to Nougat, then reflashed boot and stock (Nougat version ofc) and then tried everything again but to no avail. I would appreciate any help.
Additional note: I've tried 3.0.2-0 and 3.0.2-1 on Marshmallow and 3.0.2-1 on Nougat.
EDIT: I have 2 ideas. First, manually reflash all the paritions from the unpacked KDZ. Second, use the Dirty Cow. First one will take time, but should be safe. Second one will probably take even longer, since I'm not really good with Linux and this method wasn't designed for H850, though it should work, unless LG patched it in Nougat.
EDIT 2: Most partitions are unflashable (FAILED (remote: cannot flash this partition in unlocked state)).
!WARNING! Useless discussion below, no need to read the current replies.
When you see the LG logo you have to let go of the power button and immediately press it again, then it should work. Takes a bit of practice sometimes

Well, excuse me for expecting useful responses. I think I've made it very clear that the problem isn't that I can't press the buttons properly and yet you advised me to try it again.

I don't really think that you can talk about about proper attitude and call people dickheads at the same time. It's one thing when you try to help but your solution doesn't work and it's another when you post a solution that's clearly not going to work from the start.

First off, my apologies if this is in the wrong forum. Mods, you may move this thread if need be. I was just shown this website about two weeks ago by a friend and have only been a lurker since. So I apologize if my first post is one needing assistance.
First off, I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to doing all this reboot, recovery, root, etc. But I can usually figure stuff out. I have researched how to do all this stuff over the last to weeks learning how to do all this. Let it be known that I was already rooted with siyah 3.4.2? kernel with superuser, CWM, and had ROM Manager downloaded. Last night I had finally decided to try and download a custom rom (AOKP), and I went through ROM Manager to try and reboot into recovery mode..the phone went dead. I have not been able to turn the phone on since last night. I have tried taking the battery out, trying to hold down volume buttons/power button to get into download mode, etc..But nothing is happening. When I power on, I can see the screen where it says "Samsung Galaxy SII" w/ the triangle, but then the screen goes black and nothing. In a dark room, you can see that the screen looks like it's trying to fire by flickering, but again...nothing. Sorry if this has been alot of reading, but I just want to be as thorough as I can. If anybody can tell me what went wrong, and how it might be fixed, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Remove the battery and replace it. hold the up/down volume and power button. The screen should light up. Continue to hold them until the phone goes into recovery mode. The phone should turn on and off a couple times before it enters recovery. Then wipe the data and caches. Hopefully at the point the phone will work. If it wont work you could always try to buy a download jig. They are only a couple dollars and can easily be found with a search.

That usually cause more trouble than it's worth. Espeically for a noob. I had been in that situation back when I first start doing it. First thing I used was CWM and I had the same/similar problem.
That is why everyone here always mentioned to not use CWM.

@BigCohiba,
You need to get into download mode. You should be able to do that without using a jig. With the phone off, but with the battery still in the phone, hold down vol- and vol+ (but not power) while you plug in the usb cable.
The following instructions given by fakhri should also work:

After that, flashing siyah kernel alone may be enough to allow the phone to boot, but you may have trouble finding a Siyah in Odin flashable tar format.
...or, flash straight stock UCKH7, or flash stock plus root UCKH7. You can find download links for those in one or the other of the guides linked in my signature.

These two things worked. Phone is back to stock and working. Thanks to everybody for helping very much!
Anybody that thinks they are one of the best if not the TOP troubleshooting helper around, Please let me know if you are available after 5 today. I dont have a lock screen anymore and when I hold the power button down, the device shuts off instead of having the options to reboot, power down, screen shot, whatever else available. I am rooted, but I did try going back to stock and had no luck with the lock screen. Also, I cound a backup on a different MicroSD card and tried to restore that. It worked fine, but never gave me the lock screen or power down options again. Weather you want to talk on the phone, chat, or email. Please reply here or email me at [email protected] Thank You!
Sorry but we don't have a ranking system here. You get what you get . . .
The power off menu is in the framework of the OS. Have you flashed anything with CWM/TWRP that could have changed the framework? Almost any mod could be a possible cause.
Did you use a theme-setting app? These apps change the framework and that includes the lock screen too.
Have you restored a backup recently?
Post your rom version and apps you installed recently.

I'm sorry you felt the need to take what i said the way you did. I was simply stating what i said the way i did because nobody could ever help me with this. I am currently rooted on stock ics. I didn't even have a lock screen after i flashed back to stock on Odin, then used kies to get the latest ics. It doesn't make sense. Do Tippy have any idea how i could put this back to normal? It's a pain having to rely on go locker and go launcher. Also, when i hold the power button down, the phone just shuts down, with no options like normal. It's crazy. I appreciate your help either way. It won't let me flash a different ROM right now. Gives some error. I just want to be fully stock with a lock screen and power menu options them go from there.

Are you going back to stock ICS or gingerbread? I would Odin back to gingerbread and start brand new. This will solve any major issue for sure. But only do it if you have the things you need to get back to where you are, like the GB root, cwm or twrp, and your roms. Let me know if that helps

I can let you know up front this did not work. I did this in the beginning. Went back to stock GB then had to use Kies to get to ICS. This did not help my issue/problem at all. Still no lock screen. Or again, any way to get help with everything in the actual framework of the whole device? Anything anybody could do to help me with would be amazing. Thank you for everything again!

Idk but I did warranty claim with one of my notes and Samsung didn't say anything about the flash counter after. But they also sent me the new phone first then I sent mine back, but like I said they didn't say anything after.
but now that I think about it, the lock screen is not a device issue. it comes different in every ROM in the framework res.apk! I don't see how that's even possible? The entire frameworks flash and the device can't on its own decide not to install that especially not on stock GB. For you to Odin back to GB and not have a lock screen on GB is just crazy. Nothing out there I'm aware of can do that and not brick the device. You have to bring that device back foreal. That's screwed and if you do fix that pm me and tell me how!

Will do. You see why it's crazy now!? It's ridiculous! Never heard of or seen this problem ever..I'm not new to Android or Android troubleshooting atall. Just this blows my mind!
There is no warranty issue here.
I asked several questions about what you have done, but you didn't inform us.
You never said what recovery you have. The simplest solution is to reboot into recovery, wipe all caches, factory reset, then flash a stock rom.
If you can't do that I would use Odin to flash a stock rom.
Those are your options.

I have tried to answer every single question to the best of my ability. Sorry I did not answer your question properly. I was on CWM recovery but Just now again I flashed back to STOCK using Odin. Meaning I have stock recovery. I still DO NOT HAVE a lock screen or any options when shutting the phone down. Those "options" you gave me are no longer available. I did all that. I am about to try to go to a friends house to flash to ICS using Kies...which still will give me no lock screen or options when holding down the power button. There is obviously a deeper problem here. I hope somebody could help me solve this issue. Please I am begging here It is horrible!

Why isn't flashing a stock rom using Odin not an option? Odin is the pc software Samsung created and uses for their work.
Kies didn't work -- try Odin3 1.85

Again, I feel like a broken record by repeating this SEVERAL times but Flashing Back To Stock Using ODIN Does Not Work! I just said that I did this in my post before last. I finally have managed to get cm10 nightly to flash on my device. When I flashed this, it gave me the lock screen back along with options when I hold down the power button. Thank you all for your help anyways. I guess this is as good as it will get.
When you flash a rom with Odin, it reformats your phone, like a clean slate, then installs the new system.
When you say you flashed back to stock, did you use a .pit file, a .tar file, and a .bin file? If not, you are not flashing back to stock -- you're just adding up a mess in your phone.
If you use Kies, then use the emergency firmware recovery, it will supposedly do the same thing as a correct Odin flash -- reformat then install a clean stock rom.
Okay, so basically I flashed googy max kernel, then stupidly, after reading the instructions several times, i flashed cyanogenmod as the 2nd rom on the dual boot, but i did that without wiping the system like it said, so obviously it bootloops at the cm screen. And i never installed a recovery on that side of the dual boot. so basically now, every time i boot up the phone it bootloops at the cm start screen, and i can't get into a recovery to fix it, and i don't know how to get back to the first boot rom which is okay. i can boot into download mode and have tried several times to install cwm on the second side, but to no avail, it still won't let me boot into recovery or the bootloader. So right now i'm terrified i've completely irreparably bricked it, but i just hope theres someone of higher intelligence than me that knows how to fix it
AFAIK, from reading the Siyah thread (Which googy is based on) isn't there a key combination you can press at boot to determine how you boot.?
There is only one recovery per device btw so hold vol up, home and power to get into recovery

While I understand that everybody has to start somewhere, you really need to do some research first. If the first question is how to get into download mode from inside a stock recovery then you will soon end up with a paperweight. Im not answering your question because I'm an a$$, I'm not answering to save you the headache of having to deal with getting a replacement device.

If you don't know the answer to my question, please, don't bother to respond. I searched extensively before posting my question, as I always do. If you actually read ANY of the responses in the google search that you so kindly posted, you would see that NONE of them answer my question. This is exactly why I posted the question here, thinking someone might be willing to help. I was obviously quite mistaken.

First of all, I have researched extensively. To suggest that I haven't is a gross error on your part, not to mention that your entire response is obscenely condescending and presumptuous. As a rule I only post here after I have made a significant effort to find the answer I am looking for on my own. I know exactly what I want to do and why. Furthermore, I am 100% responsible for my own actions. I really don't need you to save me from myself.
The ability to boot directly into Download Mode from recovery without booting the OS has many benefits, which is exactly why many custom recoveries have this feature built in. I would simply like to know if there is a way to do this with the stock recovery. If there is, great. Let me know. If there isn't, fine. If you don't know, either say so or don't answer at all. If you would like to alert me to the potential risks, thank you, that would be very nice of you. Nevertheless, responses like the one you gave are absolutely uncalled for.
I would direct you to the response I gave to Q-Ball. Neither of your responses add any value to this forum.
Our response was justified.
The answer you need is available in the stickied threads.
But... I will save you time. The simple answer is I don't think you can boot to download mode while in stock recovery. Just pull the battery, reinsert the battery, hold down volume + home + power. Once you see the Samsung logo release the power button while maintaining hold on vol down + home.
The bottom line is you must have really jacked up your device or you're attempting to recover from a soft brick. There's not much reason for using download mode with stock recovery... Unless you're in the process of rooting in which case thee thread you should be following will have detailed instructions laid out for you to follow.

I'm just going to make a guess here but the op more than likely has the corrupt data partition problem which there is a sticky for in the general section. The instructions just say to odin a recovery after you use stock recovery to wipe with which is probably why he is asking if there is a way to reboot directly to download mode from stock recovery. Now like I said I am just guessing here.

Bingo! Give that man a cigar! :good: Are you psychic?
That is exactly what I am dealing with. I was hoping there was a direct way to reboot to Download Mode from Stock Recovery to avoid booting the OS and without having to pull the battery.
Apparently there isn't a way. Thanks for the info

Sad that we had to get a psychic here in order to find out the issues you were having. If we had more info from the beginning, nobody would have been "assuming" anything

Stop. Just stop. Really.
Hey guys! i bought a HTC Desire 516 a year ago. a few months back i found out about rooting. so i rooted my phone. It worked really well for a while. I noticed my games were a bit laggy. So i found this app called Chainfire3D. i tried installing it. My phone rebooted and did not go past the Bootscreen. I spent weeks searching all the formus including XDA. i found awesome solutions(especially in XDA) but none worked for me. I guess i know why it doesn't. I did not install CWM or TWRP on my device(my fault). Now all i can do is, boot into recovery mode and use adb to type random commands, again none works. Is there any other way around this? i thought of flashing CWM or TWRP through adb and then use the given solution. But i have no idea how to do so(I am a noob). Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance.

Try this below link for Hard Reset, I found it on HTC website,
http://www.htc.com/in/support/htc-desire-516-dual-sim/howto/527577.html
Still not working try this
Press together Power Button + Volume Down together for several second until the white menu appear
Navigate menu with Volume button to go to Factory Reset, to choose or enter press POWER Button
The HTC DESIRE 516 DUAL will do the master reset for several minutes, just wait until it finish.
GoodLuck :good:
Still having problems please let me know

Thanks for the help! But no, sadly it did not work.. I guess it is because of the Chainfire 3D. I searched the forums and i found this solution.

It will not work, because you already flashed it with stock ROM, so no root access, All I suggest you to is go to service centre and ask them to solve this problem.
