OnePlus 7T Pro random reboots and horrible game performance - OnePlus 7T Pro (Regular & McLaren) Q & A

Hey guys. So I've had this phone for about a week now.
Firstly, I expected quite a lot from this phone having a SD855+ and all (my previous phone had one too, but my friend's daughter decided it shouldn't stay on the table! ).
First thing, even though its running on the stock ROM (with root, but I've rooted every phone since the Samsung Galaxy S3!), I get random reboots! They don't take too long to restart, the phone screen just goes black then shows the spinny OnePlus logo and after 10 seconds or so, it's back up. But that's not what I expect... It seems to happen more when playing Pokémon GO (but I played that on my old phone and it worked fine!)
Second thing is the actual game performance... for a phone with an SD855+ and a 90 Hz screen, it plays games like a phone from 5 years ago, every half a minute or so, I get massive frame drops for a second or two, even the sound of the game gets choppy and horrible.
I never remember having this on my old phone (ROG Phone II) despite very similar specs (CPU, high refresh screen etc).
It seems from XDA and OnePlus forums that the culprit seems to be Android 10 in general? I have to admit it kind of makes sense, as one of my secondary phones (for Pokemon GO) is the Mi 9T Pro, and it also runs like ass on that phone, which also has Android 10, where as my ROG Phone II was still Android 9.
Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions on what to do? It's actually getting annoying enough now that I'm considering returning this to Amazon, and just using my Mi 9T Pro until the S20 Ultra comes out because I certainly don't expect this performance from a £699 smartphone.

Okay it seems a bit better now with the kernel and the battery life is better.
But still, why does the phone reboot like that? I don't expect that from a £700 phone, and the bad performance on the games... Is this ever going to be addressed by 1+?

What version of magisk are you using? I use canary and have no issues with reboots.

7) Wait for it to install and ensure you DO NOT reboot at the end
8) Go to Magisk manager and disable/delete any modules you have installed (will screw your device up if you leave them enabled)
9) In Magisk manager select install then 'install to inactive slot (After OTA)'
10) Reboot and you should be on the latest firmware with root retained
11) If you have Magisk modules you want enabled again don't just hit enable - remove them totally and redownload them before enabling

I haven't used stable since 6t. On 7pro and 7t pro 5g canary magisk never gives me problems. Using canary means using canary magisk manager as well. If your issues persist give it a shot.

If so switch to yahfa 4.6.2 Canary 4013

I convinced myself the grass wasn't really going to be greener on the other side, and that Nougat need ironed out, and so I should be patient and enjoy MM with xposed. Then the other night, I thought it wouldn't hurt just to try Nougat, so I took the bait and flashed RR. I really thought I bricked my phone. It installed okay - no problems. It was when I'd reboot the phone would spiral into a crash and freeze, and get blazing hot. Yes, clean installed wiped all but storage/boot/recovery. Tried to re-flash a couple of times. Same story, all went well until the minute I reboot. Then my phone wouldn't even turn on. 2 days later on the charger I managed to 'wake' it back up. x829 here.
So right now it's back to LOS13 Not great battery, but everything just works and I prefer the stock-like google android.
Any good ROM support Substratum?
Well maybe you did something wrong. Try to reflash again.
RR-N is fantastic and at the moment absolutely the best rom for X82x.
All of us would have the same problems you are mentioning if that is true...

RR-N hands down.
I had a similar problem, I suspected TWRP wasn't wiping correctly. Flashing over top (which I thought were " clean " flashes) just added strange problems, battery, overheating, force reboots, bootloops. I couldn't even get factory data reset to work.
Only thing that worked was a complete restore back to 23s/ it fixed all the strange problems.

Well I'll have to try it again, maybe with the above suggestion of 1st returning stock. Today I decided to test drive the DU N ROM. It looks like DU might be what I might be looking for, as I really wanted something with Substratum support. Devs are crazy busy the last few days/weeks, great to see!
Edit.. Really like DU at the moment. Paired with the Magpie Reborn substratum, this le max 2 is themed out dark, and loving the experience
None of them, 'cause I have exactly zero trust in them.
It's either official ROMs/LineageOS or GTFO. You may as well tell me to install 100 pieces of malware.

Not in my case. Leaking 0.5-1% of battery every hour even in Ultra Power Savings mode (i.e. no WiFi, No Cellular, no wake ups, i.e. completely idle).
My Nexus 5 spends just 1% of battery every 20 hours with WiFi on and background apps runnings.
Heyyo, tbh there's no such thing as a final ROM fight as they're always evolving... For instance, I'd definitely never consider the current EUI as my final ROM due to lack of Vulkan and I hate the quick toggles in the recent apps compared to how good it works in notification drop down in every other Android ROM...
For MM though? RR MM would be my choice due to customization plus the More kernel is really good. Nougat based ROMs still have lot of work to be done but they're getting really darn good.
for me Indian 19s.

Thank you very much!!!
I really dug the samsung apps for the s-pen. is there a way to install them after installing lineageOS? (sorry for the newbie-question)
Hi,
i've installed the ROM yesterday and i used it today in case of a working day.
I have noticed that he unfortunately does not switch to LTE - despite full receipt. The tablet uses at most HSDPA, which makes the ROM for me currently not really usable.
It is also a bit slower than the stock ROM, but tolerable - only the network connection is still a hindrance.
I bought the tab because I thought, as a flagship this device will surely get the lineage OS.
I am still very enthusiastic and really thankful that someone has made such a great ROM for this tablet- many many thanks to the devs!!!
regards
Ralf
Edit: after reinstalling this ROM is found the switch to change the preferred connection type to LTE. So i go on using it

For the 820 the GPS is not working.
Can we expect the same with this 825 version?
Thanks for your efforts!!
Ok so, I gave the rom a chance and to be honest it works quite well.
Kudos to Valera and Bonuzzz for the effort, this is looking very promising.
I don't use the S-Pen nor the phone-calling stuff so, my experience with this build doesn't include those two.
General usage feels snappy, I only had some trouble while playing video streams on the stock browser and firefox. The problem went away while using chrome.
Tried a couple of HDR 4K files on MX Player and they seemed to play nicely.
Played around with the settings, everything cool.
The only problem so far is a huge battery drain during normal usage.
Aside from that, this is an excellent beginning.
Considering this is just a 1st release, it's very stable.
If you need any kind of testing, I'm more than willing to help.

Well, you should. At least it could give you a good idea of what to expect when the rom is ready.
I have never used lineage on a tablet so I wasn't sure what to expect.
For starters, normal use is just what you can imagine, youtube, chrome, mx player (hdr stuff), headphones, couple of silly games.
After checking how stable it was, tried Xposed -sucessfully- and every module worked fine (amplify, bootmanager, rootcloack, xnotify, youtube adaway). The drain is severe, you could literally notice the % going down ridiculously fast.
What's worst, my normal app usage and settings are designed to not duplicate what I can already do on my HTC 10.
So no GPS or Bluetooth, almost no applications doing sync stuff that I already have on my smartphone. (Gmail for e.g)
I always force wifi to sleep when display is off. Again, I don't need another device duplicating my smartphone.
LTE data is also off most of the time (and LTE works as expected per Speedtest -70 mbit-)
But again, settings are tweaked to maximize battery, while using it and while sleeping.
I have used BetterBatteryStats to take some measures, the drain is related to the core of the OS services.
A simple comparison with Stock. I just have started debloating touchwiz (very happy with the progress there too TBH), and barely scraching the surface of what can be done on stock, BBS is reporting 6.25 minutes per 1% of battery. Roughly 10 hours of battery of non stop use. After removing 85% of Samsung bloatware and its services, it's going to look even better. Samsung never ceases to amaze me with their never ending junk. So again, the rom is not ready for primetime. But that could change fast.
IMHO, you should install TWRP and do a backup of stock stuff and take a dive. Even if Lineage feels like android for smartphones, still works wonders. And you can go back to touchwiz in 3 minutes...
EDIT: Forgot to quantify the drain. The android energy forecast estimated 3-4 hours for a full charge. Closer to 3....
i wish there was developer who would give us debloated, tweaked stock rom .. i know this is not the right thread for making this post, but still

Oreo, Note 8 never been the same after

I am frustrated user of Note 8, received it early September 2017, been using without any issues until Oreo update arrived in May 2018.
Once phone was updated i have done factory restore and start clean, i have done same procedure twice as i am having the following issues running phone in high performance mode:
1. The phone used to run smooth in Power Saving Mode, now its sluggish
2. Pretty sure there is greater delay between finger print sensor reading and screen turning on
3. General UI laggy, in performance mode its no longer as snappy as it used to be
4. The edge panel can sometimes slide out but stutter on animation
5. Camera launching from the hard button press, can have delay or stutter to launch too
6. Battery feels like gotten worse
Anyone else can agree?

I disagree. My Exynos N950F has still been smooth since the day I got it out of the box. I only got the base update to Oreo (possibly due to my CSC). My experience has been good so far. My phone has never been sluggish while playing games or multitasking using multi-window or App-Pair (whatever the feature is called in the GraceUI).
I'd suggest you backup, wipe (again), and restore your phone in increments until you find the root cause. I'm willing to bet that your issue is with an app that runs in the background. Are all your installs from the Google Play Store, and not APKs from questionable third parties?

I'd flash latest full stock with Odin using full wipe. Better than factory reset for clearing out persistent issues. Aside from that not sure what else can be suggested. Oreo has been running great here with every OTA.

I suggest downloading the firmware of the version you are currently on if you care about rooting in the future and flash it with Odin. Seems like you're on v3 bootloader based on your post. Go from that direction with testing.
I agree with the battery being worse. For me standby drain is way higher on Oreo. On N I would lose about 5% overnight. Now around 11-15%. Phone is smooth though
Yes I agree oreo is laggy and a battery hog on my at&t note 8. Other then the android version being different I see no visible ui changes vs 7.1.1. Why do they keep changing the bootloader? Dont understand that.

Redmi note 4x overheating due to constant disk writing.

Hi guys.
I have had my Redmi note 4 for just over a year now and about 2 weeks ago my phone was very hot on the top area of the screen. I downloaded simple System monitor and my cpu temp was around 80 degrees Celsius. I also noticed on the app it shows my phones was constantly spiking to 100% disk writing. So I did a hard reset and restored my phone from a backup and it was fine for about a week now its overheating again with the same disk writing issue. I also noticed in the last few weeks I have been getting a lot of dropped calls on either of the dual Sims no matter how good or bad my signal was.
Any assistance will be appreciated.

Which ROM are you using and which Apps are using most battery/CPU?
Maybe you should also install and run an antivirus app on your phone

I am running android version 6.0 and Miui 9.6
I have booted the phone in safe mode and it still overheats so it doesn't seem to be an app causing the issue. I also installed Avg and it didn't find any problems. The cpu usage is low when the problem occurs, the issue is that it has constant disk writing spikes which I assume is the main problem, but there is no way to see what it is writing.
Hi Sekzi, I am having the same issue as you are, in fact, I wasn't sure where to look for the problem tbh, after reading your post I checked and It is doing the exact same thing. I have the Mi Note 4 Redmi and I removed the SD card just in case, no change! Was about to look for a custom ROM to install but I would rather wait for Miui official 10 release hoping that would solve the issue. Please share any updates you might have, thanks!
I also have same issue pls someone fix this bro as fast as possible cause I can't play pubg until this will be fixed

Clean flash? If yes then combine with Franco kernel
Install greenify, Xposed framework modules like coolify, amplify
Sorry, snapdragon or mediatek processor?

Android P Improvements

After 2 days usage, I can tell that they're a lot of improvements but something worst after upgraded to Android Pie.(I'm not talking about changelog)
===Improvement===
- Take less time to open apps(More faster than oreo)
- Overall performance increased(Before update I got 179K scores on Antutu)
- Faster rendering stuffs(NOT sure I felt it sometimes)
- Better Ram Management ( Adaptive battery actually restricted usage of unused apps)
- Bluetooth battery check on wireless earbuds or wireless headphone. ( I didn't see that on Oreo.)
- Lowest Bringhtness actually lower than before? ? (I can't confirm this.)
- And many more I can't remember ?
===Worst things that happened after update===
- Battery actually drained a little bit more faster than oreo. ( Even on screen or standby.)
**** the battery life is better after the Adaptive battery things identified the battery drain apps.****
- Mobile data sometimes shown no connection. ( I have S7 edge and it's got like 3/4 signal but in xz1 there's only 1 /4 signal or no service. ( I'm pretty sure about this)
-WiFi sometimes shown that connected but actually it doesn't load my YouTube video (Tested 2 times with S7 Edge and confirmed the problem.)
- Night mode actually cool but doesn't work right now?(It's new thing I know but just complaining about it)
Sooo if you guys find anything other than this you might wanna leave the comment so let me know the thing that you might notice like improvement after update to pie. ?
Thanks for visiting and read all of my stuff?

Is the smartlock-bug fixed? I mean where the smartlock feature stops working after a reboot.
Are the touch sounds the same as Oreo or do they use the ones for XZ2/XZ3? It's the one question I did not get an answer for in one of the other threads.
did Sony update the driver of Adreno540 or still using the 251 version?
that can be checked in aida64/display/GPU version

Yes smart lock features doesn't disappear after device reboot or shutdown. So no need to turn off trust agent thing as before.

i hear there is a lot of bugs. im not gonna update for now until they fix all issues.
Ok googel not working?
The best thing is that now DRM doesn't matter.
The Camera works with unlocked bootloader and doesn't need any fix!
I'm using phh treble rom 9.0, you just have to flash magisk and it will boot.
You are missing: new camera app with super slow motion 960pp in full hd (1080 p)

Oh phh treble rom boots and the camera works?! This is good news. This means that the other treble roms will boot too since they are built on top of it (I think).
Edit: Mind posting a short guide? Maybe even as a new thread, I'm sure many people are interested.

You can check my post here... basically what I did:
1- Update to Stock 9
2- Unlock bootloader
3- install TWRP
4- Flash A-Version GSI AOSP Android 9 from Phhusson, I recommend the gapps su version.
5- Flash Magisk
Done!
Later I did some experiments using gapps to install google camera 2 (legacy) and it works!
For me the best things in the Pie update so far seems to be battery life improvements. In previous 8.0 builds battery management in my XZ1 was somehow broken. It got massive drain overnight and even when I unplugged it in the morning, I only managed to get 3-4 hours of SOT during the day. Now with Pie it looks like this issue was fixed. Energy use of android system and phone standby is stated to be around 1-2% of the whole usage (previously like 20%) and the SOT is exactly like in the good old days when the phone was new out of the box. Today (with battery-priority stamina starting at 20% and all-time enabled mobile data, wi-fi and accurate location services) i got a massive 6h 23m of SOT. I'm very curious if this will become a typical score right now.
