LG V30 Boot Loop - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Really frustrating experience with getting LGUP to run, I downloaded at least 5 versions of it, and at least 3 msis for DLLs before getting a combination that worked. In the xda guides I'm following, none of that is specified.
So I flashed US99820h_00_0318.kdz, as one of the steps. Now, I'm in LG Life's Good boot loop. It's just restarting over and over, showing me LG Life's Good, vibrating for a minute or two, and restarting again.
Any ideas? Tried pushing buttons and plugging unplugging from computer with USB. LGUP flashed successfully, and said click here to continue, all appeared well. Now, the LG V30 has lost its mind.

What variant do you have (what did the start with)?
What specific guide are you following?
One of the steps of WHAT? What are you trying to do?
Frankenstein to another variant?
Just update to Pie?
Bootloader Unlock and Root?
You don't say.
All the Dev Patched LGUP I post in the KDZ threads work fine. You just need to read the instructions carefully. (On the Pie version you have to use the setdev.bat option and only launch from desktop shortcut, not the download folder. It's IN the instructions.) Uninstall any prior version. There's also Troubleshooting Tips posted with every installation guide.
There's not 5 different versions in this forum, only two -- that I know of, that I've posted.
If you are getting Dev Patched LGUP from elsewhere, go ask them.
1) The one in the Frankenstein/Pie KDZ threads work to downgrade from Pie or to flash other Pie KDZ.
The one in Frankenstein instructions is identical to the Pie KDZ thread. It's the newest.
2) The one in the Oreo KDZ threads (slightly older but kept around for a valid reason) work with Oreo, Nougat, or to update to Pie.

It repeatedly says, "if you need to downgrade to Oreo, we got you", but never explains how to go to back to Oreo. Ctrl+f "lgup", and... nothing.

In step 4, "If you have US998, H930, V30S and are on Oreo already -- with pre-July 2018 security patch firmware, then go to Section 5."
There's nothing for "If you have US998, H930, V30S and AREN'T ON pre-July 2018 Oreo, follow these steps to get to Oreo. You leave that exercise up to the reader, before going to Step 5. It took me forever to get LG Up running, using other guides, and the KDZ you mentioned. Now, I'm stuck in bootloop, and can't flash a different KDZ or take control of the device in any way.

I'm stuck here, as I imagine everyone with an LG V30 not on Pre-July 2018 Oreo would be, because there are no steps for flashing Pre-July 2018 Oreo in the guide.

I'll say this in the shortest way possible. If to don't have DL Partition option then you simply didn't follow the instructions to install the Dev Patched version.
The WTF instructions send to you the links to download the pre July 2018 firmware for your particular variant and THOSE threads (like the US998 Oreo) give instructions to not only install Dev Patched past LGUP correctly but again reiterate which KDZ to downgrade to.
This isn't stated in the WTF instructions themselves because there's over 30 variants. You go down through each section of the WTF instructions like a decision tree...
If I have this, I do that.
If I have done A, then go to B.
It's important to read the WTF instructions thoroughly, even print them out. Read them in a web browser and not an app (XDA and Tapatalk apps truncate entire sections. This is noted at the very top of the WTF instructions.)
If you have US998 then you need to temporarily flash 20a or 20b for Bootloader Unlock. I'm not sure why you flashed 20h yet. US998 20h is not pre-July 2018 firmware.
See screenshot. This tells from WTF INSTRUCTIONS tell you that for US998, your need Pre-July 2018 firmware and gives blue underlined hyperlink for Oreo US998 KDZ.
When you go to that page, see what's see the top?
Then IN the KDZ post itself are extensive instructions on how to install Dev Patched LG up as well as troubleshooting. Did you not see that at all?
First screenshot is from WTF, to blue hyperlink for US998 Oreo thread. The other screenshots are from the US998 Oreo KDZ thread to tell you what to flash and how to do it -- including extensive Dev Patched LGUP instructions.

If you are starting out with Pie KDZ and need to downgrade, in the Pie KDZ thread (which has the Dev Patched LGUP you need to downgrade from) the Downgrade post also says what you need.

This is the one point that may not be clear in the WTF Instructions. IF you have US998 AND it's already on Pie. Then you need the Dev Patched LGUP in the Pie KDZ thread, to be able to downgrade from Pie. Most US998 users are not already on Pie KDZ when they come here.
Also, if your questions are about the WTF Instructions (which hundreds of people have successfully completed), why not ask questions in that thread instead of starting brand new thread?

You're very wrong about that. I clearly tell how to downgrade from back to pre-July Oreo if you follow the proper links for your variant. People do this every day!
Almost every one who has ever unlocked their bootloader for V30 has used this method (except for T-mobile H932) and most people have done it AFTER July 2018 when LG/Google patched the exploit. You either:
* aren't reading the instructions in a web browser (and didn't print them out to use a check list)
* or not reading carefully,
* or don't understand you are supposed to follow the links for your variant, then come back after finishing that step?
To get out of your boot loop, try Master Reset. It's mentioned in the Dev Patched LGUP Installation Guide Trouble Shooting Tips.

ChazzMatt already answered exhaustively. I would add/restate just a few things:
1) The Master Reset (Button Dance) may be all you need to get your phone back to normal after cross-flashing:
Power off your phone
Hold VolDown + Power.
When the LG logo appears, immediately release Power (and ONLY Power) and then immediately hold Power again until you get the the factory reset screen.
You never let go of VolDown until the factory reset screen appears. Once it appears, you can release both buttons.
Choose yes twice by using the VolDown key and Power to select.
You MUST start with the phone turned off. Make sure the USB cable is unplugged. If you cannot turn off the phone then hold VolDown+Power for 8 seconds. WAIT and see that it turns off and stays off, otherwise try VolDown+Power again. ONCE your phone is turned off, THEN perform the Button Dance to Master Reset.
2) Assuming Master Reset completes, you should be able to use LGUP to flash what you want. If it doesn't work, you're either using the wrong version, it wasn't installed correctly, or you need to try a different USB cable, different USB port, or even a different computer.
3) We still don't know what your original V30 model is and which firmware version you were on. If you were ever on Pie, you need to use the latest Dual-mode LGUP from the Pie KDZ thread. If you've never been on Pie, you can use the earlier version from the Oreo thread. Chazz already wrote that, just restating.
4) Follow ChazzMatt's gudies to a T. They can be somewhat verbose, but for a reason. Don't skip anything, don't glance over anything, and don't selectively combine with other YouTube or Reddit guides (which are usually outdated clones of Chazz's guides). Just read it and do exactly what it says.

Follow the blue hyperlink, "Download either US998 Oreo KDZ or...", and it goes to a page where you can download US99820h_00_0318.KDZ, or, under the heading "TWRP Flashable version", the same file. Hence, I tried flashing that. If the instruction and hyperlink said, Download US99820AorB_somethingsomething.KDZ, unlock bootloader, THEN flash US99820h_00_0318.KDZ, it'd make sense. Currently, following the instructions leads a person to download US99820h_00_0318.KDZ in step 3, then there's nothing more mentioning doing anything before or after that, or how to flash it. If you edit step 3 to say, if you're not yet bootloader unlocked, download and flash US99820A_somethingsomething.KDZ. If you're already bootloader unlocked, download and flash US99820h_00_0318.KDZ, then I wouldn't be in the predicament I'm in trying to follow the guide. If the page linked to listed the KDZs in alphabetical order, it'd make a lot more sense. From what I understand now, it seems that the vast majority of people need to flash A first, do something, and then later flash H. That's really not clear. If A came first on the KDZlinks page, I would still have scrolled down to H, because the steps on the WTF guide say explicitly to download the H KDZ in step 3. Maybe under step 3: prep there should be a step 4 inserted before the current step 4 (download H KDZ) that says download A KDZ, flash it, do some other stuff, make sure your bootloader is unlocked by following these steps...

So thank you, for actually attempting to help. I'm stuck in a boot loop of black screen > LG V30+ Thinq logo, animated LG logo > static LG logo splash screen > (sometimes) Android is starting loading bar
One time, by doing the power release/repress on the second LG logo (animated), I saw a grey menu for an instant that immediately left again in a flash. This gives me hope.
I can't turn it off, it just boot loops for about an hour (I've never watched it until it stops, but a long time) or until battery dies. Holding VolDown + Power for 8 seconds does nothing, or sometimes, it makes it just keep going through the first 2 steps of the boot loop only: (quick) black screen > LG V30+ Thinq logo. It will never turn off and stay off (except on its own after a really big number of loops, or by the battery running out). As soon as it gets enough charge to run, it starts boot looping on its own, so I can't reliably "turn it off" completely in that way, because I don't control when it turns back on. Holding VolDown + Power seems to not power it off, but to force reset, (power off and restart the boot loop).

Can you please specify "the Pie KDZ thread" with a link? I don't want to go astray again. I was on some version of firmware that'd be with Android 9. I took a picture of the software info page to help me put it back to its original state if something went wrong, but there's nothing about firmware in the screenshot. Android 9, patch level Aug 2019, Baseband version... kernel version... build number, software version. Whatever firmware is most likely to go along with that, but I don't know.

At the very TOP of that thread in huge red letters it says only us 20a or 20b for bootloader unlock. Don't tell me you skipped down to 20h without seeing the huge red letters. Take a look at that screenshot.
In the LGUP installation guide (same post) it also says to use 20a or 20b for bootloader unlock.

Why should they be in alphabetical order? That makes no sense.
They are in chronological order, newest at top, oldest at bottom. Most people want the newest. They only reason you need the older is ONE time for bootloader unlock. After that you always want the newest to update.
But several places -- like top of the thread -- it CLEARLY STATES what you need. You aren't reading.

Then I think you didn't follow the installation instructions. Uninstall any prior version because at this point, don't know what all may be conflicting.
INSTALL DEV PATCHED LGUP
1. Extract LGUP_DualMode.zip to a folder on your PC.
2. Browse into the folder and launch LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi.
Follow the prompts to complete the install.
3. In that folder, right click and select "Run as Administrator" on "SetDev.bat" to set LGUP to developer mode
4. Launch LGUP using the desktop shortcut.
Choose Process : PARTITION DL or REFURBISH
I would reboot the computer also after installing.

I do say that. I say you need pre-July 2018 firmware, for the WTF booloader unlock exploit. I send people to their respective Oreo KDZ threads to get that, and AT THE TOP OF THOSE THREADS -- IN BIG RED LETTERS -- I tell them exactly what they need to flash for bootloader unlock. It's NOT 20a or 20b for every variant. It's 20a or 20b for US998. I can't list 30 different KDZ in the WTF thread itself. That is what the KDZ threads are for. For EU H930 it's 20R and 20Y.
I list what each variant needs for bootloader unlock in HUGE RED LETTERS in the Oreo KDZ thread for that variant.
Tell me why you can't read this, in the screenshot? If you don't see huge red letters then something is wrong.

It's the US998 Stock Pie KDZ thread in the ROM section. You can find it there. Pie means Android 9, whereas Oreo means Android 8. It sounds like you were on Pie, so you HAVE to use the LGUP in that thread.
I am guessing the corruption occurred because you used LGUP Upgrade mode to downgrade from Pie to Oreo (not having Partition DL mode due to wrong or incorrectly installed LGUP). Instead of wiping the data partition, this left it completely messed up for the new (downgraded) ROM, and possibly other partitions too. If you also cross-flashed from a different model that would have made things even worse. We still don't know which model you have (i.e. the original firmware): Was it a Sprint LS998, an AT&T H931, a Verizon VS997, a Canadian H933, a European H930 -- or something else?
But none of that matters now if you cannot get the phone to stop boot-looping, or even turn it off. You need to complete that Master Reset. Did you make sure to unplug the cable before attempting to turn it off? Otherwise you may see exactly that problem where it comes back on by itself.
I suggest to leave it plugged in to the wall charger for a couple hours to make sure it's charged, then unplug. After that, keep trying to turn it off with VolDown+Power for 8 secs. If you still can't, then keep trying the Button Dance: Hold VolDown + Power. The moment you see the V30 Thinq logo you quickly toggle the Power button: Let it go, then IMMEDIATELY press and hold Power again. Never let go of VolDown until you see the reset screen. If it doesn't work, let go of all buttons and try again, and again, and again.
Worst come to it, you can buy another V30+ in excellent condition for $110 from YYwireless on eBay.
@ChazzMatt: I seem to recall a thread in the last couple months where a member posted alternative steps to work around a boot loop or semi-brick, but I am unable to find it. Does that ring a bell?

Yep, thank you. But I wasn't thinking of the one on restoring Download Mode, which is moot until the OP can turn off their phone (although it may be relevant next). I was thinking of @AsItLies's thread about turning off the phone.

Yes, yes I know. It's great! I used your post to find AsItLies's thread again, having forgotten who and when and where.
Hopefully this can help the OP turn off the phone and either perform a Master Reset (which may or may not solve the boot loop, depending on whether they cross flashed) OR get into Download mode and flash again with the right LGUP.
And if indeed Download mode is gone, your post can also help restore it (although that's more involved).

They should be in alphabetical order, not because of the alphabet, but because of the linear order of following a guide. There are only 2 variants anyone with a US998 would ever want, 20A, to unlock bootloader, and the latest. They should be in that order, so that a person can follow along, and skip the first one, 20A, if they don't need it. Nobody is ever gonna use B, C, D, E, F, G, or even H once there's anything past that, because why would they? The only 2 variants with powers above others are A (and B, but who cares, just have everyone go with A to cut down on variability, the mother of errors) because it unlocks bootloader, and the newest version. That's why they should be in "alphabetical order". It's nothing to do with the alphabet, and everything to do with the logical progression everyone using the guides is going through, like a flow chart, while trying to reach their goals. (Virtually) nobody ever has a goal of going back to firmware B, C, or D from years ago, but if that is a big proportion of the users of the thread, by all means, include it. That's A, with instructions that this is just for unlocking the bootloader, then H. The end. It's not clear that the first download presented ISN'T 20A/20B -- seriously, do not underestimate the complexity of this stuff. People are following directions, and any opportunity to go wrong, plenty of people will. I downloaded H because it was the first (and I assumed only) download on the thread, and I was doing step 3 Prep before I received the phone. Then, when I had it, I was just working through Step 4 and beyond. Please put things in logical order that you want the majority of users/readers of the guide to consider them in. Every visitor to that thread considers H first, because it's the first download presented. Stop taking this as personal attacks, and stop attacking me personally. I'm giving you critical feedback to improve the guide, and prevent future people from making similar mistakes. Instead of red letters at the top, present version A for download with the same explanation, that it's for unlocking bootloader. Then, present H for download, with the explanation for why. I assume, though I might be wrong, that the vast majority of users to the thread are either downloading A, unlocking bootloader, then downloading H, or downloading H. Hence, the instructions need to be in that order.
The main part of the post, visible without scrolling could be really short and effective. Something like:
To flash these, you'll want this version of LGUP.
If you want to unlock your bootloader, flash firmware A, and follow this guide. (Only offer TWRP compatible version, why would anyone want a not-TWRP compatible version!?)
If your bootloader is already unlocked, then you probably want firmware H.
Also, the WTF guide has no mention of which LGUP to install. That should be a sub-step with a link in step 3: Prep, because everybody needs to do that.
Something like
4. Download this special version of LGUP.
5. Unlock bootloader. US998 | Variant 2 | Variant 3
6. This would be the old step 4, telling people with every variant which KDZ to get, only after they're unlocked.
People should be able to follow things in a straight line,top to bottom, and on any link, do the stuff within it in a straight line from top to bottom, close the link, and return to the next step.

LG UP V10, can`t get it to work.

Hello everyone, I have been a fan of your forums for quite a while, you guys have an awesome community. I have been attempting to unbrick my VS990 with no success, I have LGUP and all of the proper dll files in the proper folders, I have two .kdz. One is the stock kdz, I can not get to work at all due to anti roll back (no matter which option I choose) and the other is the current kdz. I got that one to accept using update, but it did not fix my phone, it is still stuck in boot loop. and using refurbish I get an error message saying that it is not supported by that kdz. LG UP is fully recognizing my phone, I found the .kdz files no problem, I believe that I have followed all of the steps here >> https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v10/general/guide-lg-v10-stock-firmware-to-stock-t3224170 any help at all would be appreciated. Side note, I have not rooted or installed a custom recovery.

I would also like to add, I can not do a hard reset. Every time I attempt the phone either locks up when I hit the power key on yes to confirm factory reset, or sometimes it reboots to LG splash screen and locks up then. I am starting to wonder if there isnt a hardware problem with the phone instead of software.

Lg v30 can't turn on only logo on screen

I'm fresh owner of lg v30 before only Samsung devices. I tried do root on my lg v30 but now I have only LG logo (LG V30think) or if I try do hard reset logo changed to LG logo. I tried hard reset, soft reset etc nothing work. When I connect to computer I hear connecting noise but I can't see my devices in my computer. I tried connect to LG Bridge but program can't see my phone. Any idea what I can to do to back my phone to life.:crying::crying::crying:

Please tell WHAT V30 you have. Saying you have "V30" is like saying you have a "Dell" computer. There's over a dozen variants.
What did you try, to root? Which method? (Depends on which variant your have) What Instructions?
Did you flash correct firmware? Did you use Dev Patched LGUP? What mode did you use?
You've tried Master Reset?

My questions besides variant (H930, thank you) were what firmware you flashed (if any), did you use Dev Patched LGUP. If you flashed incorrect firmware, that can cause brick, for instance. So, I also wanted to know what Instructions you followed and which step you were on?
For instance, did your brick occur when you flashed firmware? Or did it occur while in ADB and you were trying to give commands to unlock bootloader?
Master Reset -- using buttons:
1. Unplug phone and turn it OFF.
2. Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
3. When the LG logo appears, quickly release the Power button only -- then immediately press Power button again, while STILL pressing the Volume down button until you see the screen to select Yes to erase and reset everything.
4. Release both buttons so you can make your choices.

Yes I done hard reset. What I done to wake up phone
I hold volume down and power
When logo go on I release power button and when logo come again I swap valume down to volume up and I get message phone reset
For flasboot I used youtube how to get ublock.bin file from LG and after that I tried flash phone using comment on DOS and program ADB. I paste file twrp do ADB folder after last step I blocked my phone. I want get my photos back because by mistake I made a factory reset.

Now I know why you didn't ask this in the WTF Instructions thread. You used LG's "official" bootloader unlock code. I'm sorry I can't help.
THESE are the only instructions you should be using to bootloader unlock and root any V30 (except for T-mobile H932).
WTF V30/V30+/V30S Bootloader Unlock and Root
Everything you needed is in that thread. After temporarily downgrading to early Oreo, unlocking bootloader with OUR code, you also need to flash correct version of TWRP, encryption disabler and root checker disabler files, plus Magisk. Those instructions tell you the exact order, as well as Trouble Shooting Tips.
But LG official bootloader unlock is different. Theoretically you don't need to downgrade, but you are dependent on their code.
Maybe someone else can help. But if Master Reset isn't working, then the LG bootloader unlock code messed up your phone?

I have android 9 now update used LG bridge. I have question is any different way to get my photo back after factory reset? I don't want block my phone again I spend a lot of time to get it back to life.

There are data recovery software, where it scans your phone and tries to recover files in space that has not been overwritten yet.

Go to photos.google.com and see if your pictures are there?
I have auto backup for my pictures when my phone connects to any Wi-Fi signal. I don't use cellular data, but I do use free Wi-Fi to back up my pictures.
I've had friends break/lose their phone and forget they had that turned on. They didn't lose anything...

LG V30 not turning on/charging after Pie update (power+volume down turns it on)

I have just updated my LG V30+ via LG Bridge to 9.0. Update wasnt appearing through phone settings and just yesterday i decided to check LG Bridge if there is anything. It offered me Android 9.0 that was released back in september 2019. i think, i left it to update.
I have found a bunch of annoying things and glitches, like home button and the other 2 can only be white or a few bright colors, unless the theme is black itself, while pulling those buttons from the bottom upwards, it pulls the page thats open at the moment as well (on 8.0 it would just pull the buttons), its very annoying coz it opens a keyboard as well or anything else thats at the bottom of the page (as if i clicked on the field and not pulled from the bottom just to get buttons up)... A bunch of tiny things like these that can be overlooked... BUT, ever since the update i found out that phone doesnt want to charge and it doesnt turn on.
Let me explain how and what happens:
When u try to restart the phone and hold the power off, press restart button, it just turns off the phone, it doesnt start turning it on. Power on button doesnt turn it on either, it just feels dead. I tried holding power on and volume down, holding it 10 sec turned on the phone normally. After it turns on u can normally charge it, it reacts to charger properly and charges it. After i took it off charger and used it a bit, i put it back to charge and it didnt respond. Doesnt respond to wireless charger and PC either (long time ago while it was still on 8.0 it started showing some weird arrow on battery, apparently some water/charging safety, during that arrow i couldnt charge my phone, but only didnt work on fast charger, worked on PC, wireless and any other normal charger without fast/quick charge. This time arrow doesnt appear and i cant charge it anyhow, the only way is to restart it every time i want to charge it and repeat the process of force turning it on etc).
If anyone has any advice/has encountered this before, let me know. I will downgrade it to 8.0 if it will help me solve the problem, coz honestly, i am fine without new updates and i dont care about them. If i knew that 9.0 was so unstable i wouldnt have had updated it. I dont see a point for staying on 9.0 as most of the changes are annoying and unnecessary...

You could have updated manually any time these past few months, using Dev Patched LGUP. We have the full image KDZ here.
Do a factory reset, see if it fixes the issue.
If not re-install the 31a Pie KDZ in REFURBISH mode using Dev Patched LGUP. Go to the H930 PIE KDZ thread.

If that still doesn't fix it, downgrade back to last Oreo KDZ. There's nothing about Pie that's better than last stable Oreo and several things that are worse.

I have just factory resetted it and a new problem has arisen. After the phone locks, it freezes completely, only way is to restart it. Seems like it can be restarted and can be charged normally now, but again, when it freezes the only way to turn it off is through volume down + power off... Wondering what will happen if i factory reset it again. Gonna try it, after that only thing left will be either install Pie from here or put Oreo back just how u said. Thanks for help, will update u on my progress

Yes. You can update to H930 Pie 31a KDZ using the same Dev Patched LGUP you have now. I would recommend Refurbish mode, as that's a clean install. Sounds like something got corrupted with your previous "upgrade" installation.

When i followed the Oreo installation, a warning appeared saying something like "Your password is correct but ur files are corrupted, u need to do a factory reset..." even tho it was factory resetted 3 times before that... So i went though with it since i couldnt factory reset it through recovery mode (it didnt open it no matter how many times i tried) so i did it through normal settings. When i let it factory reset it did it as if it was through recovery mode.

Phone stuck on logo!

I tried updating to android pie, then the phone reset and now its endlessly stuck on the logo, I cant turn it off, only thing that seemed to work was getting into the master reset menu, but even after reset the phone returned to the logo. It also doesn't connect to my pc. Please, what can I do, do I let it run out of battery? Is it gone now?

I'll let ChazzMatt answer this, as he is the expert. But I imagine he'll want to know which model number of V30 you have? Which ROM were you on? Is it rooted/BL unlocked? And how did you perform the update (OTA, LG Bridge, LGUP)?

US998? There's 5 different workaround methods in the KDZ thread, in posts #2 and #6.
But a couple need unlocked Bootloader and TWRP. The others need you to manually go into Download mode. After THAT, your Dev Patched LGUP should recognize the phone. You should have read all this before attempting update.
IF you are on US988 firmware...

LG G8 ThinQ No Command Boot Loop? (At&t)

So as the title says, my phone is stuck with a no command screen and i think it is going through a boot loop along with it. so hears the backstory. Its a used phone, bought through Facebook [not such a great idea, but i bought a note 10 last year for half the price brand new, cant win every time though]. the seller failed to mention that it was rooted. and in a haste one day i deleted my conversation with him (not archived) when i was cleaning out my messages.
When the battery died i saw the first warning, stating "Your Device software cannot be checked for corruption. Lock Bootloader. Visit this link on another device: g.co/abh" that's when it got stuck in a boot loop. It may have received a update, im not sure. I visited the link which is for google pixel or nexus phones. so i brought it to a repair shop and local businesses will not work on it, because its been rooted. well i managed to get it working again, only by doing a factory reset. Ive had to do that twice. then one day i magisk had a update. i did it. and YAY its fixed. me being me wanted to unroot and lock the bootloader so it would be back to default. Nope. I uninstalled magisk. and boom i have the no command boot loop. i have tried using the LGUP program, but with it being att that got shut down real fast. I have looked all over for information. but i need it dumbed down. I catch on quick but a lot of the terminology is lost on me. I may have forget to mention some things. so please anyone who can help. any info would be appreciated.

So after much button combos and almost just chunking the phone. I managed to get it into download mode. by pressing and holding Vol- and Power button to get it to restart. (phone is unable to power off. unless the battery is 0%) While screen is blank, press and hold Vol+ while plugging usb into the phone. I had the cord in the computer first. it may work vice versa. Looking for AT&T official Firmware now. I think.
