So you got the Xiaomi Mi8, did something wrong, or maybe you did nothing, but it's not booting, not booting to recovery, and only fastboot works, you realise that if you connect it and try fastboot adb commands, it just says Press any key to shutdown, you start searching for drivers, info, usb hub, other computer, not ryzen pc, 1.0 usb, 2.0 usb...
Here is how I fixed it.
THE FIX
It was very hard and tricky, but possible, you'll need a computer, usb data transfer cable, type c to usb, and a usb mouse, you'll need your device to be unlocked first, if it's not unlocked, I can't help you.
I used Tool All In One by Mauronofrio, installed drivers and with phone in fastboot connected it, if I press check, it will reboot and fail, you have to go to recovery flasher, if no recoveries are available, then download and put it on the same folder where the tool is. Go to recovery flasher(not zip one) select it, I recommend mauronofrio one, the lastest, and then select when going to flash flash and boot, it should be black screen with waiting devices and the phone with the press any key thing, then just disconnect the phone from the cable, restart it to fastboot and connect it, it should boot, you'll have mi logo or fastboot for a minute or 2 and then it will boot to twrp, but you may not have your touch working, just connect the type c to usb adapter and use a mouse, you should be able to use it, go to wipe, wipe all partitions, then format data and connect the phone back to computer, if it does get detected, you'll see the phone in file explorer, so you'll be able to move any files, move any rom to internal storage, use then the usb adapter and with the mouse, flash the rom, reboot and everything will work.
IF IT DOES NOT GET DETECTED, Go to recovery flasher(not zip one) select it, I recommend mauronofrio one, the lastest, and then select when going to flash flash and boot, it should be black screen with waiting devices and the phone with the press any key thing, then just disconnect the phone from the cable, restart it to fastboot and connect it, it should boot, you'll have mi logo or fastboot for a minute or 2 and then it will boot to twrp, but you may not have your touch working, just connect the type c to usb adapter and use a mouse, you should be able to use it, partitions allready wiped, so just put the rom file if it was deleted and flashbe sure that under partitions is MTP enabled, if it is and it still does not work, just go to reboot and select recovery, wait for it to boot to recovery. If it goes to fastboot and does not work, When booted, your twrp touch will be working again, if not, just flash another one.

Hy! i dont know if my phone is completely bricked or not, i must say in the start. ill say what it happened today with it.
I decided to root my phone,i did it by flashing an update.zip file in recovery mode. This worked good, no problems.
After, i wanted to install cyanogenmod. i prepared 3 files of which i read i need. : -ClockWorkMod_Recovery_6.0.3.0 ,CM7-A5 ( the cyanogenmod version) and gaaps.
I entered the recovery mode, and i installed cwm, and made a backup of the system. after that, for no reason i could remember, i didnt continue installing CM7-A5,but i turned on the phone. everything worked, and looked ok. but after, i decided to finish the installation. But when i tryied to enter the recovery mode, i couldnt anymore. and it doesnt start in any way. The Pc is not recognizing it when its connected via usb. (only makes the sound that something is connected, but the filesystem isn't mounted and "adb" and "fastboot" from sdk android does not recognize it).
Now, i press the power button and it freezes at the android logo. Is there any thing i could do ?
Go to recovery?

I'm at the same situation, after a mistake in a TCT Bootloader: i've formatted Misc and more partitions.. and now i'm only with a android logo.
The PC recognize a "Broadcom USB wireless modem" when i connect usb and press contemporary volume-.
Recovery not start (android logo) end download mode normally procedure (volume- and power) not working.
I'd like to test to reflash recovery by Recovery Installer By Sls13 v 2.0! but the driver not run with fastboot mode.. i've tried to install ADB Sdk suite and Java Sdk.. i've the usb-driver original, but my system (win7 32bit) make identification of Smart2 as "Broadcom USB wireless modem"..
i accidentally erased boot and bootloader.nor download mode nor recovery work and my pc recognize it like Broadcom USB wireless modem.Any solution?
Hi,
I have on my tf201 latest official firmware, 4.1.1 build-number: JRO03C.WW_epad-10.4.2.18-20121122.
As Asus doesn't provide any more updates for our device and mine is out of warranty I'm finally ready to move on to some custom roms.
My tablet is Rooted.
Now after a lot of reading I thought it would be wise to do a backup of everything and make my device unbrickable.
I started to follow the instructions on this site : matthill.eu/android/transformer-prime-tf201-jellybean-nvflash
At first I backed everything up with Titanium Backup and then I did a factory reinstall, so I would have a clean tablet to start.
Then I installed the unlocking tool and succesfully unlocked my device.
I restarted my tf201 with holding the volume button down to get the options to enter fastboot.
When I got to the selection menu, I press the volume button a few times to select the USB-icon.
Then I press the volume up button to enter fastboot, but nothing happens. It just freeze.
The only thing I can do is hold the power button until my tablet restarts.
Also, since i'm on JB I never could connect it on my pc anymore. It even doesn't show up as an unknown device.
So when I want to use ADB I have to use ADB Konnect (wireless ADB).

When you press up on the USB icon and it freezes that it normal.. This is fastboot mode.
You now must access it over a PC after installing the naked drivers.. If it is not showing on your PC then either try a different PC or your cable is faulty.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I tried once more to enter fastboot. Same result.
But when I disconnected my usb cable to connect it to an other computer, suddenly I got this message on my tablet:
"Starting Fastboot USB download protocol"
This message didn't show up before.
I plugged the tablet back to my pc, but still no device detection in device manager, even when refreshing (So I can't install naked drivers, as it is not recognized).
My computer is a Windows 8.1 system.
I restarted my tablet again, (after disconnecting it from my pc) and followed the procedure to enter Fastboot again.
I waited for the message "Starting Fastboot ..." and then I connected the cable to my other pc (Windows 7 system)
Same result as on the Windows 8.1 machine, not recognized
You say it could be that my cable is broken. Maybe, but it's a strange coincidence that this happened when switching from ICS to JB.
I know JB for the tf201 is been out a long time, and I updated since I could. So over time, maybe my cable could be broken now. But I'm sure I had this problem (not recognizing) since then, because right after updating I wanted to do some things with ADB and so I found out I had this problem.
Hey peeps, need some help.
I'm currently running LP (E5823_32.0.A.6.200) with an unlocked bootloader, TWRP 3.0.0, Zombie kernel, SuperSU.
I can get the phone into fastboot: Power off, hold vol-up, plug in usb (blue led). In windows I've installed Fastboot and Flashmode drivers after disabling driver signing enforcement. Fastboot from commandline works without issues.
Supposedly, Flashmode should be vol-dn + plug in usb. However, this just boots normally. I DO see a very brief flash of the green led though (which i think should be flashmode), but it continues to boot into system. Since I cannot get into flashmode, i cannot upgrade to MM (E5823_32.1.A.1.163_SG.ftf) using either the Flashtool or Emma (sony's official) since neither can detect the phone. So a couple questions:
Does TWRP or the custom Zombie kernel (also tried AndroPlus) have any effect on being able to enter flashmode? If so, where can i get a stock recovery.img and boot.img (for LP)? I have tried extracting the kernel.sin from the LP ftf and unpacking it to flash with fastboot, but it keeps telling me "image is not a boot image". So I'm kinda stuck
Any advice?
thanks!
solved it by switching USB ports, maybe Win was caching the Fastboot device on that port.

Same thing was happening to me, I was using a work laptop and it has a charging USB port on the side. All other USB ports were data.
So i have flashed cm13 firmware after deleting emmc appsboot and flashed flyme after rebooting my device dont turn on there is nothing except a black screen the phone keeps heating automatically and when i connect it to pc the recognize it as qdloader 9000E and the red led keeps blinking
Open the back case carefully,
Disconnect the battery n reconnect
Connect to fastboot by holding vol+ key n then plugging it into pc
Search Google for fastboot to edl script
N then do your stuff
You don't have to disconnect your battery. Hold the power button until the red light stops or it vibrates and quickly press power and vol DOWN buttons again and it will go into Fastboot. From there you can fastboot edl and flash

Do not Try Anything...
1. Check if your device is recognised in Windows PC in Device Manager as Qualcom USB.
2. IF yes, you are good.
3. Download XiaoMI Flash tool (Old version)
4. Download the flash file, Fastboot file with .tgz archive file.
5. Once downloaded; extract using 7 ZIP anywhere.
6. Now, Open the battery case and disconnect the battery terminal of phone from motherboard
7. Connect to laptop via a Thick USB cable and see that device manager detect the Qualcomm USB interface. )(This indirectly is a Fastboot mode)
8. Open the miflash tool and select the extracted folder. Presee refresh. a connected device will appear in flash page.
9. No select flash all and Lock option below and press flah.
10. It will take about 300 to 400 seconds to flash. Once the flash competes, Mobile automatically reboots.
11. Now you have stock recovery and ROM. Do not play now with TWRP again. You bring the mobile to same state again.
Good luck
I upgraded couple of days ago to new PC - Ryzen 5 2600/rog strix b450-f gaming with clean windows 10/64 and now i have problems with adb bootloaader driver and cmd commands. Before i was on intel xeon/gigabyte motherboard socket 775 windows 7/64
I use tool all in one, install usb drivers. When phone is turn on, with usb debuging, i can enter phone storage, device manager see phone as poco, everything is ok. When i start tool all in one i can see device id,i can go into fastboot mode(phone restart and go into fastboot). When phone goes into fastboot, device manager see it as Kedacom usb device/android bootloader interface, or sometimes as android phone/android composite usb device. I have adb/fastboot files all i need on pc. When i enter some command trough cmd,for example fastboot devices,or fastboot reboot bootloader, on phone screen goes to dark and in left top corner with small font is written phone will turn off. On cmd i see afther command i set and pres enter only ??????? questionmarks. So i must again manually enter fastboot mode.
I cant get fastboot/adb to work. I try to install other adb/fastboot drivers(xiaomi and google original from tool all in one),try to connect phone cable to other usb port(2.0/3.0/3.1) at the back of pc chase, also 2.0 in front case. I try other usb cable also. Try to manually update google drivers from this forum, then i cant bcouse some ini file is missing or if i set have disc and do manualy with some other driver it cant see phone in adb-fastboot mode. I try all that fall on my mind with no luck.
At the and i goes to my friend and try to install tool all in one, install google usb drivers from that tool, install adb/fastboot files. Try to enter fastboot and do same commands as before with cmd,and everything is working fine as it was with my old pc setup. Device manager see it as Kedacom usb device/android bootloader. He also have amd cpu/chipset - but it is not ryzen with fresh w10/64
Is there any fix for my case? Does anybody have same problem?
