Upgrading Havoc OS - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I've tried a couple different ways, clearing various caches and not, but so far, upgrading havoc has destroyed all the google apps, and several others. Is there a way to apply an update without breaking everything? Or, is there a way to fix all the apps after the upgrade/update?

Latest havoc, magisk, twrp, except gapps was only vers 16 I think (few weeks/months old). Do I need to use gapps? I'd rather use modern updatable google apps, and gapps only covers a few apps, anyway. Hangouts, for example, is vital, and not included afaict.

Latest everything, but gapps maybe version 16 (few weeks old)?

After all ROMS update, you need to flash GAPPS and Magisk...

Can you explain why? Magisk says it stays in the code during the flash process, and I'm using regular apps, not GAPPS, and other normal apps (non-google) break as well...

Every time I upgrade a ROM, I perform the following steps:
0. Remove screen lock and fingerprint
1. Go into TWRP
2. Wipe cache, davik cache, system
3. Install the upgrade, flash gapps and magisk again
4. Reboot
The phone will boot normally and data will not be lost, all apps will work properly.
You can try to solve your problem. Good luck

Worked beautifully, thank you. I followed step by step, gmail, google play, etc working now on latest Havoc OS.

I use swift backup to create backups of my apps. It works well.

Hmm in the past custom rom bro. I back up data but there's a problem when I flash the back up of the custom rom I use before. The password is there. I put the password then all wrong. Now I got a technique hehehe all to do is off the password before back up hmm bro. Thanks so much.
