Hi there,
i have a ZTE Blade A5 2019 as a replacement for some weeks for my Galaxy S7. It seems like it runs Android Go instead of standard Android. Unfortunately some apps arent supported, like Wear OS App, which i need.
Is there any way to upgrade to a standard Android? Like flashing another android or installing some google apps (like google services, google launcher) to make it compatible with that app?
Thanks!
Did you try to manually install Wear APK?
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-wear-smartwatch-android-wear/
Otherwise on a Reddit thread someone claimed he was able to install form play store after changing build.prop file. But no change details and you would need root, of course
About your main question: it would be possible as long as someone provided a custom ROM for the device

i tried it and the app freezes on the start screen (wear os logo) and nothing happens.
I also tried to update google play services to a newer version, because maybe there are some framework functions missing for the app to work. But first the service crashed every 5-10 sec, then the play store showed me an update for the services, after that the app actually started but couldnt connect to the watch, i restarted the device and now the app freezes again. I dont know whats wrong at all, the app itself faulty or still some android dependencies missing. Does anybody has a clue?
would you share that reddit link with me?
Edit:
Current Versions:
Google Play Services: 20.12.16 (110306-306753009)
Google Services Framework: 9-5272573 (updated: 31. December 2008)
maybe the services are too old?
AI don't know, I think it would be hard..

Yea don't use some random APK or pc file to root, there are fake sites claiming to root your device based on what you search on Google. Ask on XDA about the device and CPU, if it's not here it's hard that someone ever rooted it.
Or if you want to experiment consider you can brick the device
Good luck [emoji123]

I think you can flash any stock Android of your choice as long as its minimum system requirements are met: stock Android generally requires a faster CPU, more RAM, etc.pp than Android GO.
Check out your respective devices' Android Development section on XDA, you might be able to find a non-android go ROM there. Goodluck!

What? How come? You can't flash a rom built for a specific device with a certain CPU on other device. It would 100% brick your device!
He could root more easily if the CPU is a common one (mediatek or Snapdragon) however

Garbage ...
I spoke of stock Android - or pure Android as I like to call it - what - I'm pretty sure - in no case depends on what manufacturer produced the CPU: it depends on CPU-architecture only, IMHO.
For example Lineage OS offers you a pure, stock Android experience for your device. Others also exist.
AFAIK you at any time also can replace on a mobile its Android ( downgrade/upgrade ) , as long as it's suitable.

maybe I didn't understand your words, but just to be clear: you can't flash any random ROM on your device.
CPU is only a factor. Another one are partitions. Also before anything you need to root and you need a custom recovery. And each device needs it's own.
So, yes, depends on cpu, not cpu manufactures. They could make the job easy by releasing drivers, but they still often don't do.
Don't believe me? Flash some random lineage os that is not for your device and then tell us what happens..

The Build prop method really worked for me like a charm. I was unable to use notification, third party access in my Samsung J2core(j260g). But i rooted my phone using magisk and odin by creating a boot.tar file. it took hardly 5 minutes to follow all process. After rooting, just download the build.prop editor from play store and search for lowram config. edit the entry to true . reboot and you will see a full fledged android instead of go.

No. I have not it. I leaved it to the samsung center with the latest hard brick. For now i only have a note 1 but i want to sell it to buy an iPhone 4 or a SGS 3.

I only have some questions:
1) Is it true that I need to have a 64 bit CPU? If yes, I have not, but in a VM is it possible to have it?...
2) What Linux OS is the best to get a fast compilation time? (My VM: 2Core, 1.5GB Ram, HDD USB 2.0 to host it (only used for the VM), 128GB of virtual HDD)
3) With Mint 15 64bit VirtualBox crashes on boot, is this a problem of the "64bit" version or is a problem of the small quantity of RAM?
I have it! It will be really, really, really great to have a new ROM, since we've got a few numbers of developers for this device. A CM7 or CM9 ROM, like u said u're going to try to do, would be really great for future developers and a future Jelly Bean ROM. ( Nowadays, I'm using ChaOS ROM v1 + S3 Modpack made by @ChaosChris )

1)I believe you can build CM7 with a 32 bit OS (that requires only a 32bit processor) but for CM9 onwards you need a 64 bit version of Linux (which requires a 64 bit processor)
2)You can use Ubuntu 10.04 (as recommended on the official Android developers website) for maximum compatibility and less compilation errors.
3)Yup, you cant use 64 bit OS'es on 32 bit processors, neither with VMs nor by actually installing it on another partition.

1) So for 3 or 4 years (I haven't enough money for a new pc and my parents will never buy another one only because "the cpu can work with the double number of bit in the same time" (Yes, my father were born with the "linux inside" signature, but with a 16/32bit brain))
2) Ok, I'll try
3) Damn!
4) With this post I can now post in the dev section! So when I'll fixed all bugs with current rom I will open a thread for it! Thanks!

Ah. I will try. Thanks! For now with my rom I am at the same point of 3 days ago. Bootloop, bootloop and more bootloop. I think that I will restart from 0 adding one feature every flash and then when I will have enough features and stability I will relase it.

Great idea! Building a ROM in this way would be really useful to have more knowledge about what you're doing. This will help you to, if there is an error, find out exactly where it is, so you can fix it. Good thinking. Good look, maybe we finally got a sucessful CM7.
I am talking about my modded stock based rom... the cm one will wait because i need to fix some errors with the vm.

lol Got it. Will you try to develop themes for your custom ROM?
Yes. But not now. I'll make themes after I have modded all the Rom because if I mod a part of the rom i need to mod all themes so when i end the modding-time i will start with all done and the theming process will be more faster.

As Vagelis1608 gave you the link, it is for CM11 (KitKat Rom). If you have never made a rom before, you can't make a kitkat ROM. You may mod already existing jb roms to look like kk. But to get original KitKat, you will need to compile the whole stuff from the source code and this is what a developer can do.

As a new user I had to remove your link to the madteam thread index.php?topic=5883.0
Hi,
Just wanted to say that 5 days ago I knew zilch , nada, nothing, zero about Android phones or their workings but thanks to this site and its many contributors I now not only have at the very least a superficial awareness of the numerous elements involved in making an Android phone function but also have finally rooted (a donation to shortfuse.org is on its way) my Samsung Europa (GT-I5500) which currently is using Build FROYO.XWJQ3.
All I want to do now is upgrade to CM11 and 5 hours or more since rooting all I have done is gone round in circles because of links that are dead. I understand that I am looking for info on a device that is long past it's sell by but should not XDA have archived all the relevant files etc ?
Perhaps the fault is mainly mine being a complete noobie but I have spent so many hours trying to get up to speed that right now I am so exhausted mentally I am switching off and will return another day to continue researching.
Not sure why I decided to post to you other than that I came across your name many times while searching the forum. If you have the time and patience to point me in the right direction regarding upgrades it would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Possible it is, however, it is necessary to remove components and applications that consume many resources, because the device has usable 181MB and a CPU can only run up to 768MH.

If anyone has put Xposed on their Honor 5X with the latest MM 6.0.1 update could you post which version/installer and if you had any problems?
no working on last xposed version, using twrp to flash.
stuck on HONOR animation for 10min and getting a bit hot
tried xposed uninstaller and everything is working now
Using this version: xposed-v86-sdk23-arm64.zip
With this apk.
Working well on both stock ROM b330 and CM13.
First boot can be a bit long, just be patient.
I used the file @mooms supplied and the first boot took a very, very long time. At first I thought it was stuck. But finally it booted up and it's working.

It was at least 20, maybe even 25. I just left it alone for a while and did something else.
BTW, an entirely different issue is which Xposed Modules will be compatible.
Amplify works (for battery saving).
But many other modules (eg GravityBox) say they do not work with OEM skinned ROM's, only pure AOSP.

FAQ:
Q: Can I flash over August patch without wiping data?
A: Yes, you can. However WiFi may not work. If that's your case try restoring network settings. (Settings -> More -> Restore network settings). If WiFi still doesnt work, you'll need to wipe data.
Q: Can I update via OTA?
A: No, you can't. You'll need to wait until I port the update.
Q: Does this ROM come pre-rooted
A: No, it's the A1 stock rom which doesn't come rooted. If you want root, flash Magisk through TWRP
Q: Can I install Xposed?
A: Yes, you can. Just make sure you download xposed for SDK 25.
Q: Will this rom unlock 4G 800MHz band (B20)?
A: No, it won't unlock it. Mi A1 uses a different modem which supports it. Mi 5X modem doesn't.
Q: Do I need to unlock my bootloader?
A: Yes, you need to unlock the bootloader before you can install any custom ROM.
Q: How can I unlock my bootloader?
A: Apply for permissions on http://en.miui.com/unlock/ then download the tool and follow the steps.

Thank yoouuu! After waiting so long to unlock my bootloader I finally made it and flashed your rom right away. And it's working as a charm. I'm so happy I got rid of Miui 8 Chinese version and it's many bugs and problems (and occasional Chinese language notification I got no idea what it was saying). MiUi was cute and nice on a few parts, but it just seemed like an unfinished piece of software on many points (super aggressive ram management, brightness slider problem, crazily complex settings menu -especially the applications permissions one divided in three sections-).
This rom works just flawlessly for now, and I had no issue with the fingerprint reader acting as a button on my side. It's really great to see some functions works like fingerprint swipe for notifications or lock-screen notifications. Oh ! And I can finally make the google assistant and feed works out of the box without complex tweaks
Camera is still ****ty though (especially coming from a nexus 5x) but, hey, it's a 200€ phone.
Do you have a paypal donate account so I can offer you a beer and encourage you to port the next android updates ?
As we all know all these 3 devices (Note 4x, MIA1 and MI5x) have the se chipsets
Is it possible to port it also on note 4x?

You can make camera a little better by downloading the Google Camera modded with HDR+ and adding these two lines to build.prop:
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
persist.camera.eis.enable=1
However, you will lose HDR support on native camera.
If you want to donate me you can do so on paypal.me/aex12
Thank you, donations are very appreciated!

Probably it can be done. Just ask a dev who have Note 4X to port it.

Edit: Can't PM you
Did you port the MIA1 rom.on 5x or did you build it on source?
I wonder what porting software did you use as android kitchen is not working on newer roms now
Edit2: do you have google+ or anything? To PM you?
After a few hours I noticed that unlocking with fingerprint has become very slow again. Something like 3 seconds.

The slow fingerprint sensor is an A1 related issue. Maybe it get improved in the future with updates.

I dont use any kind of AIO software. I use a bunch of linux tools and use them through CLI.
I use simg2img and make_ext4fs for the system.img and mkbootimg and unpackbootimg for the boot.img
Hello Aex12, I have no coding skills, so maybe my question is silly: it is possible to introduce in this rom the possibility to set different ringtone for each sim? Thank you.

Yes, it would be possible. However this rom is intended to be an exact same copy of the Mi A1.

Oh wow! Please consider to introduce this feature, please!! You could make a copy of Mi A1 and one more rom with experimental features. You would be my hero.

Update 9/7/18 - Now possible to have full Xperia X official version support on XC, including Android apps and OTA update. See post by g7 in this thread in Jolla forum - https://together.jolla.com/question/185922/sailfish-os-on-sony-xperia-x-compact/
Requires official Sailfish X system image,, which can only legally be obtained from Jolla by buying a licence for 50 Euros. Once you have the image, download and unzip g7's patcher, and copy image to same folder and run the patcher.. Then fastboot the rom using the same instructions as for the community port below.
--------------------------------------
Here is the info for community port, (v. 2.1.3.7, no license required, no official Android support, no ota):
Check it out - https://together.jolla.com/question/180109/announcement-community-sony-xperia-x-compact-release/
Not my work, I just found it. I downloaded, but won't be able to test until tomorrow. It's not a flashable, instructions to flash via fastboot are included in the zip.
If anyone beats me to it, post here and let us know...
Flashed successfully and working well. Auto flash didn't work for me on Win10. I had to make a modification to bat script, and didn't work anyway, so had to flash fastboot commands manually.
Working: cellular, wifi, mobile data, gps, bluetooth, sensors... Call volume is good.
- Download zip from link above and extract
- Download oem image from Sony site linked in README file in zip, and extract to sailfish folder
- Open cmd, and cd to sailfish directory to flash
Code:
fastboot flash boot hybris-boot.img
fastboot flash system fimage.img001
fastboot flash userdata sailfish.img001
fastboot flash oem (name of Sony oem file).img
Done
So far my experience:
Very impressive. Much better than the Firefox OS and Ubuntu touch ports, etc, that I've tried on Xperias in the past. Main issues for me are,
- camera not so good in low light, (good in good light)
- limited system app options, (alternative browsers, keyboards, etc.). There is functiining Jolla app store, with some good apps, as well as dev-type repos, like warehouse, and openrepo, with patches, etc, but I find the system apps kind of laggy/buggy. Hopefully more development coming
- app switching/multitasking cumbrersome. In general, don't expect anything like android. It's all gestures and no buttons. Probably actually better than I realize, but takes getting used to.
pros,
- Really nice ui, and lots of customization options. I've just started figuring out a little bit.
- boot time is less than 10 seconds, (about 2 or 3 seconds after Sony logo).
- good experience so far with support forums
- potentially capable of using android apps. Sailfish has a service called aliendalvik that can run Android apps. I can't tell yet if it works on this phone, though. It seems like it doesn't, out of the box, but maybe could... (update 5/24 - see here for working Android files: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76612066&postcount=71).
Can't get it to flash. Script is written to look for 228 fw, (N), so flashing with O causes 'wrong version' error. I downgraded to 228 to test, but script just starts, and then closes without doing anything. I also tried changing batch script to look for different version, but didn't help. I wonder if it's a Win10 issue..
success. needed to edit batch script and flash commands automatically.
Going to update op with instructions

Wow! Thanks for sharing! Will try flashing it tonight
UPD: Flashed successfully. Works great! Even Android Support(tm) works (after installing RPMs from Sailfish X)
Bugs so far:
- Sometimes the screen won't react to touches after unlocking. Solved after locking the device again and then unlocking it

I've noticed screen responsiveness a little dull in general, but liking it overall...
Sensproof said:
After using it for one day in seems the lockscreen bug was caused by double tap to wake option, which i had enabled earlier from the command line. The bug is gone after disabling the function.
One more thing to consider if you want to install Sailfish is camera quality: there are problems with focusing in low light (seems to be a problem on Xperia X as well: https://together.jolla.com/question...focus-or-picture-sharpness-seems-non-optimal/). It will probably be fixed in the next build though

Noticed the same after 2 days. Too bad really, because in good light, the camera is very good.
Going to add review in op...
stupid question: I need the boot loader unlocked?

as posted in op, not sure if available for this phone. Seems like there is official support from Jolla for Xperia X, (search for SailfishX), but it's a paid service, and only officially available in certain countries. For unofficial support, you just have to search...

Did all fastboit commands return successful, (ok)? If ao, try a different vendor img. There are several to choose from. I flashed from O, but the oem file was for N. Also, try using script first. Flash manually only if you have to.

the download is a zip file with an img file inside. You need to extract the img to flash it.
