This happens anytime I boot the device and the problem can persist up to many hours until the menu just decides to work...
Basically whether I use gesture controls or nav buttons, the recent Apps menu does not work. Kind of a big problem for me because I'm a heavy multi-view user.
I mash the button, hold them down, reboot the device, unistalled Nova because it's the one app that brings up anything about recent...
I looked around the forum some, is no one really not also dealing with this problem?
Also how do I boot into recovery mode, and can I boot into fastboot? My OEM toggle isn't grayed out
I haven't had this issue, and I replaced LG's Home Launcher with Nova Prime on my first day.
I also replaced the stock Android 10 gestures with Fluid Navigation Gestures.
I suppose there could be something about how FNG triggers the Recents panel that makes it more reliable/consistent, but I kind of doubt it.
I basically have my phone set up as a super-charged replacement for my beloved but aging LG V30.
Even without root, everything is gravy so far.
You can access ADB commands and Fastboot for certain apps to get around not having root (it's why I can have FNG force-hide the Navigation Bar despite disabling Android 10's stock gestures), but I do not think there is a way to reboot to the Bootloader.
I did find some instructions about holding down the Volume Up + Power buttons to boot into Recovery, but it appears to be a generic copy-paste rooting instructions taken from other phones and adapted for the LG V60 without actually verifying that it works. The article even mentions that it's a generic article that works for "most phones" and implies that it may not be viable for our phone. So... /shrug
I factory reset, and I thought the problem was fixed, but after I booted/rebooted again, the problem persisted again.
Would it have anything to do with uninstalling apps?
Almost immediately after I factory reset I went straight to uninstalling most the pre-loaded Google apps I was able to remove and the t-mobile & LG apps like Whale instead. I also Uninstaller the game loft games too.
My knowledge of Android tells me that shouldn't be the case, especially since they werent considered system apps, but from a fresh install this shouldn't be an issue.
I should also point out that I have show touches and touch data enabled, and I can touch/see the button reacting to my inputs, it's just not responding with the function
That is an unusual issue. Sounds like you tried it all. You might call LG or its time for that phone to take a trip back to T-Mobile. Best of luck.

I used ADB to uninstall a toooooon of LG and AT&T bloat and a bunch of pre-installed games.
I was being somewhat aggressive with my uninstalls, and did not consult a guide about what was safe and what wasn't (mainly, because I couldn't find one for our phone).
I haven't had a single issue with the Recents panel not pulling up. That said, with Nova and FNG, I'm not using whatever stock solutions exist out-of-the-box for pulling up Recents.
You did mention Nova in your OP, but have you tried some third-party gesture or buttons solutions for pulling up your Recents? Do they fail too?
It's also my understanding that uninstalling bloat via ADB is not a permanent solution (I can still see the apps in my apps list in Settings, they just have a "not installed" next to them, or some such). I recall reading that a factory reset will restore all of them. Since your issue is persisting after a factory reset, I have to assume the problem is not related to anything you uninstalled.
Are you on the newest system firmware? I believe T-Mo and know for sure that AT&T have released updates bringing Android's April 2020 security patch to our devices. There MAY be some minor bug fixes included with the roll-out.
If you're still experiencing issues after the firmware update and factory resets, I'll have to echo minoch's advice and suggest that you consider getting an in-warranty exchange either via your carrier or LG directly, whichever is faster/easier. If going to your carrier, try to make sure that you're phone is currently experiencing the bug in order to be able to demonstrate it to the store rep to expedite the exchange.

Sorry for the double post, but I was interacting in another thread (A Worthy Upgrade? URL: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v60-thinq/help/worthy-upgrade-t4083111) and someone there reported issues with the Recents Panel not working properly at times. They seemed to narrow it down to using pop-up instances of apps. Maybe hit up that thread for more details. But are you using pop-up windows in conjunction with Nova as well? There seems to be some kind of conflict there, though it's an issue I'm not experiencing, since I'm using Fluid Navigation Gestures for most of my gestures, not Nova's gestures (or the stock Android 10 gestures).
Recent software update from TMobile fixed that issue for me

I have this problem and usually occurs when I decide to use multi window. After I'm done using multi-window recent apps don't work I just see my current wallpaper and nothing else. I get it to work again by switching from gestures to navigation buttons or vice versa.

While I am a heavy multi-window / PiP user and that may be the issue, the problem starts when I boot or reboot, before I even have the chance to use it.
I have tried switching between gesture and buttons before creating this thread but that didn't work.
It's a little less stressful though to know I'm not crazy and am not the only one dealing with this issue

I use Nova, but I'm not using gestures for navigation, I opted to use buttons instead, but the problem (when it happens) persists when I use either navigation method. Pulling up from the bottom and holding to bring up recent doesn't work.
Also on Nova you can create shortcut buttons to bring up recent that don't involve the navigation, but that still doesn't work. Recent as a function just doesn't appear to work... Until sometime later, it decides to want to.
Then after that there's no more problems.... Until I reboot or turnoff the device, then I gotta deal with the issue again.
This happens with and without the dual screen case

I wouldn't say I tried everything, just maybe everything I can think of on my own without root. I even googled the problem on other phones, they suggested activating Google assistant for whatever reason, which I tried and surprisingly it worked, but when the recent problem came back, the assistant thing didn't fix it again. I guess it was a placebo effect like blowing into old NES carts to get them to work

Other than maybe trying a third-party gestures app (such as Fluid Navigation Gestures, which I'm using and not experiencing anything remotely resembling this issue), I'm out of ideas.
Best of luck! And if you manage to solve the problem, please return here and post your solution. It could be of help to others.

I rather have buttons but the app doesn't work anyway because recents as a function isn't responding

Thread is getting old but heck if someone happens to come across it searching, might help for them. Don't judge, you know who you are.
SOLUTION:
@Chocolina @Mejilan
*My Device - USA S21 Ultra Verzion oem, loaded latest Tmobile FW as of this writting via odin v3.14.1_3B_P.*
De-bloated 245 apps with 210 left, which i left alone.
Had the the same problem.
Decided to adb uninstall samsungs OneUI launcher (com.sec.android.app.launcher) as part of de-bloat process, i generally use Nova Prime Launcher as default.
Thought it might be gestures related or some overlays i removed.
Restored all packages back to default then one by one uninstalling this time rebooting after every one uninstall.
Though it was the default launcher at 1st, restored it, problem was i restored it but didn't reboot device.
It turned out uninstalling Samsungs default launcher called OneUi caused this issue, enabling/restoring it made the recent apps button function again.
Reinstall your default launcher. Fixed for me, execute the command then reboot device.
could we edit recents app code in android studio?

Today my Nexus 7 (2012) auto-rotate function quit. I have only had the device for about a week (bought it on sale and it is brand new).
I have searched high and low to get an answer for this issue with no luck.
I have tried installing various launchers, rotation apps, and even re-calibrated the device. I would factory wipe, but I have read that this likely does not solve this issue (though there is no definitive answer as to what does).
The only thing that rotates the screen is opening a app that functions in landscape, but then it will be stuck in landscape. One rotation app will rotate the screen, but only if I press "portrait" or "landscape" each time to change the screen, but not on auto-rotate.
Does anyone have any idea what the cause could be?
My only suspicion of cause might be when I "force stopped" and "cleared data" of the Google Services Framework in hopes of getting 4.4 faster (which I quickly read is a big no-no).
I side-loaded 4.4 tonight and hoped that it would correct the auto-rotate issue, but it has not. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So I have narrowed the issue down a bit. In safe mode the auto-rotate will work. Though I am not sure which app is causing the issue, or how to find out, particularly since I did a clean install--there are only so many apps on the device.

You two options.
One, is to wipe all partitions and flash new 4.3 images clean.
Two, you can try an Xposed Framework module called GravityBox that has a feature in Display Tweaks for allowing all rotations.
This interacts directly with values in the code of the corresponding apk.
Heres a link to both http://dl-count.xposed.info/modules/com.ceco.gm2.gravitybox_v47_2d3946.apk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Now #2 is the route that will mostly fix the issue however if both of these dont fix the issue then you are left with a hardware problem.
ie: the sensor for rotation is broken.

Thank you for taking to provide some input. I am happy to report (though baffled) that the auto-rotate feature randomly starting working again last night. Doesn't really help in terms of future understanding, but problem has been resolved.
In case one of these worked, I did the following:
Sideloaded 4.4
(seeing that it didn't help) Did factory wipe/cleared data--still not working.
Booted in Safety mode (hold the 'power off' selection after pressing power button to shut down, auto-rotate worked in safety mode, which showed that it was likely related to a 3rd party app.
Randomly starts working again.
when you are viewing a contact in People app and you switch away, if you go back to People it will loose context and show you the main list again. this is definitely an intended behavior and one of the worst usability flaws of the Android OS. is there a way to disable this horribly ****ty behavior? maybe replacing the People icon with a shortcut to a special activity? do i need to patch the source for this? thank you!

Hmm. Sounds frustrating.I dunno about it being a default behavior. It doesn't happen on my phone, so can not recreate issue to see what's up. Are you going back to it after awhile, or like you just pop in another app and right back and it's back to the top of the list? I'm thinking maybe the system is being aggressive on the RAM front and shutting the app down if you are out of it for too long. If that is the case, then rooting and adjustin the memory management might be necessary. What phone and update are you on?
A quick, potential work around, is using another dialer / contact app other than the built in one. Go Dialer, ExDialer, and PixelPhone all come to mind.

thanks but not interested in a quick workaround involving other apps, especially closed source. i build my own system so i can patch it if it there is no other solution.
not a RAM issue, my 2GB device has plenty of it free.
yes, go out, right back in, and u land in the contact list again.
but... maybe i wasnt clear enough. if i switch back using the recent apps mechanism, it does return to the opened contact. the problem is when i switch back clicking the icon in the home screen or the app in the app drawer. the default behavior of android apps when u "open" them is to continue where you left off. this is both baked in the framework and also recommended by google. but as it happens with the People app which returns to the contact list, much of android and google apps break the recommended practices, probably in an effort to cause less confusion for android newbies or grandmas.
<RANT>
this sucks! im not a grandma yet. and, i wish google got this, if google has to break the recommended practices to make android usable, then the recommended practices ARE FLAWED!
and yes they are. android sucks terribly in task switching usability. there is NO WAY to multitask as the master and owner of the device. there is no way to force on apps what you want to happen, no way to do what you want. the back key should take you to the previous activity, which may be a different app. but so many apps even coded by google take you to the main activity in the current app instead, causing that if you say open a notification, you'll have to hit back maybe many times to go back to your previous app, if you ever arrive there. btw, apps can override the back key to do anything else or even nothing which is crap.
the recent apps thingy works sometimes and other times it doesnt. since an app can launch an activity from another app in its own activity stack, you cant go back using recent apps because for android you never left the first app (although you did). and then you can only press back, except back might not take you back where you were at all!
there is no way to multitask in any predictable way. you have to learn per-app quirks and see what they let you do and what they don't. there is no way to a priori know what a tasking key will do, which is complete crap.
also under many situations android will forget what you were doing with cross app invocations (and this is PER ANDROID DESIGN) when you invoke twice activities of a single app from different apps.
the only key that works consistently is the home hey. and if from there you want to go back to an app you can't, because some apps -like People- choose to misbehave if clicked from the icon and may do what they want, like forgetting context and loosing your "work".
android's tasking system sucks horribly. i only use android because there's nothing better thats mature enough.

Does anyone else have issues with their launcher following the Lollipop update? I'm on B309, stock everything and not rooted. Since the update, everytime I reboot my handset it forgets nova as the default launcher. Have factory reset, cleared cache, data etc. No joy. Also, since the updatey my smart cover has stopped working. Now it just shows a demo clock onthe window with writing telling me to hold and swipe to choose a new clock. Suffice to say, holding and swiping does nothing.
Anyone else had such issues? I've reported them to Huawei, but just wondering if re-flashing it would help?

Yeah. This is an issue we have been telling them about since the Friendly User Test (FUT) began. There is a Let's Mod thread. Inside that are the workarounds. I'll find it and edit this post in a minute. Basically you freeze the HWHome and your launcher will stick.
EDIT: Here is the thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-mate2/general/mod-5-1-update-t3149523. See the third bullet in the OP. Also, read thru the thread. Good stuff.

Correct. But the issue is (hopefully) being worked on because it has certainly been brought to their attention.
Awesome, sorry my bad for not searching enough for this issue on the forums. However, I still have this stupid issue with the smart cover. Maybe I'll just use my giant trident cover instead
I don't have/use smart cover, but have you enabled smart cover under settings-smart assist-more?
I'm pretty sure Smart Cover is turned on by default. I don't have one either. Sorry I can't help.
IF you freeze the stock launcher, you better not have your 3rd party launcher crash cause if you do and it requires an uninstall and reinstall you're ****ed. My phone will now not boot because there is no launcher to boot to
So I like the big battery in this phone, but I hate that when I open an app, and it loads (facebook for example), then I get an incoming email, so I tap the notification to open and read my email, the phone closes/ends my fb app. When I go back to fb, it re-launches the app all over again. It's annoying when I'm in the middle of something, and it'll force-close and lose everything I was typing. I've enabled dev options, and see an option in there for apps "Don't keep activities" (destroy every activity as soon as the user leaves it) which sounds like exactly what is happening, but this option is disabled. I've disabled every possible battery saver option I can find.
Anyone know where else to look? You wouldn't think it'd be a big thing, but it's really annoying having to spend extra time re-launching every single app as opposed to just switching between them already launched.
Thanks in advance!

I am using Ruthless Pixel launcher, from here xda, and I haven't got this problem. May be you have to disable the DuraSpeed from Settings.
Bye!
I tried a different launcher. I'll try the one you use. I've even had problems with the launcher having to "restart" and when I go back to the homescreen, it takes several seconds for that to load.
same problem here, every battery saver option disabeled, duraspeed off, and everything that i need to to i did in the developer options, but literally every app reboots after i switch to an other. any news on how to get rid of it?
I've switched between several different launchers. This isn't a launcher problem. It's a phone software problem.

I'm running Nova Launcher and see what you're talking about...if you leave a Facebook post you're working on open, then go to research something else, even though the draft post is there on screen when you scroll for it, the post will close and re-open before you can edit it again, wiping out the draft. A bug that needs to be fixed, indeed. The weirder thing is, after looking at it some more, is that it isn't easy to consistently replicate. Weird, indeed.

So I packaged my phone up last night and shipped it back this morning. But a buddy of mine MAY have figured out how to make it work. Go to Duraspeed and ENABLE it. Then ENABLE the apps (or all apps) that you want to STAY ALIVE in the background. See if that allows them to all run, yeah, like making a fb post type thing. Report back. I may have to go buy it again!
I have ZimLX and no issue with background apps.

That only helps a little bit, if you switch between tw games, or a game than check facebook and then whatzapp, the game resets. Also if you like switch to 3 different apps, they usually reset and get force closed from the systhem.
Also if you turn on duraspeed, youtube vanced gets forceclosed, even when it is allowed in duraspeed.
So what i do right now is enable duraspeed and the app that i want and whenever i wanna hear music in the background, i have to disable duraspeed.
Also, it is a real dealbreaker right now, it´s just way to buggy.
it seems like they programmed a way too harsh task kille in on purpose to give a longe battery life.

I am using Ruthless Pixel launcher, from here xda, and I haven't got this problem. May be you have to disable the DuraSpeed from Settings.

Not true, everyone has these problems nomather what launcher, it is a software problem.
Usually everyone has tryed to disable duraspeed of course and whatnot.
This problem/bug is really annoying. It makes me hate the phone to be honest.
How/who do we report this too?
Try here - https://community.umidigi.com/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=210
From what I've seen, Umidigi employees monitor and are active in their Forums, so hopefully someone will pay attention.
I have ZimXL and no issues with background apps closing. Are you on the latest ROM?

obviously we habe the lastest rom and every user has that problem it is a rom problem.
Also, what is a zim xl, google gives nothing about that.
I had a few apps do screwy things with the powersaver on , and it would be a few. Kroger app would crash and would not work until you uninstall and reinstall it. Att Uverse app, when you login it give a message about allow permissions, it had all, anything that need the gps. if I turn off the power saver I do not have those issues.

[Edit]Actually this doesn't work well. A couple posts down is my fix that works.
I logged in after a while to post this! This is a reply to you and op and anyone else having this "problem". Thanks to this forum post, I found a solution. I think it's an ingenious design they created. If you want every app to run in the background, *enable Duraspeed and enable all apps* in the top right corner. Then, *Reboot your phone*.
After you do this, the phone will magically be as fast as it should again. It's like I rebought a phone 100x better then what I was using .
The ingenious part of it is, if you don't want certain apps running in the background then Disable them! (you'll probably have to reboot for any change to be applied)
I love this design and I am now back in love with my Umidigi F1 , hope this helps everyone.
i sold it like 3 months ago and fixed a broken note 9 for cheap. my friend who owns the f1 since then still has this issue even when he tried your fix.
also another friend who owns a f1 play has this issue since the last update he had, he even newly installed / whiped it and so on, seems like umidigi just has problems with theis software and also it seems like it only affects a few people.

Hello, I agree. The fix wasn't 100%.
So here is the official fix, and once again it makes sense. (You might have to enable developer mode)
Go to your apps/notifications in settings, select an app, under the app click advanced, Battery, then battery Optimizations. Under that page go through your apps and disable optimizations for apps you want to stay on in the background.
Found this out and it works.
Actually figured it out once I read your post
If it doesn't work, reboot your phone.
Still doesn't work, do this along with duraspeed on the selected apps.
Still doesn't work, might just be the app. (Some of my games still don't stay in memory)
It's working good for me now, but if I wanted more apps to stay open I'd check developer settings and turn Max apps to keep in memory to the highest amount.
and I agree, it's a bit unpolished. Probably something to do with their battery optimizations and Android's not being compatable.
Tried several methods and nothing truly works. Your best bet is to flash a GSI/rom. Or just root the phone and install "ram fix by cork" magisk mod. I'm using the latter method and it works fine.
Yep the software itself has far too aggressive memory management despite it having 4Gb of RAM and kills apps far too quickly.
I complained about it to UMIDIGI support and they said go buy an F2.
What i did was used this forum to install Lineage OS and now have no memory issues
Either install a GSI (I suggest LOSQ) or download RAM Management Fix by Crock if you can find it, it's not in Magisk anymore.
Today, i experienced weird bug with my navigation bar suddenly and for no reason stopped showing on my homescreen and also behaving very strange, like not even allowing me swipe up to recent apps or so, tried to restart device but didnt helped. Stock launcher, and didnt done anything at the time that can cause this problem, have someone experienced something like this too? Problem still persists after few restarts
You mean the gestures? Sorry dont had any problems with it... Also rooted and disabled a lot of apps and running custom kernel... No Problems so far. Is it possible that oneplus launcher had an automatic update in the background? Try cleaning cache in recovery
Launcher updated itself but it happened early in the morning and problems start at the evening
edit : tried factory reset both in the menu of the phone then in the recovery, still no navigation bar on homescreen, it was there before im 100 percent sure also when i watch videos of using 7t pro on youtube it is there, clearly dont know what to do

can you record your screen behavior when you are on homescreen and like swiping left to right, opening recent apps and so on so i can compare? coz when i compare my behavior with other videos my phone behaves differently, navigation bar is showed in apps for example, but missing on homescreen completely and never shows there, before it was either still there on fades out, but when i swipe on homescreen to either side it reappears, now it is not simply there
edit: i recorded mine in case anyone can look how it behaves https://vimeo.com/443957044
Okay thats strange... Ive disabled this bar cause gestures work without it but on the homescreen the bar should be there... Dont know what you can do... Have you tried deleting cache?

yup i deleted everything lastly full factory reset but still remains the same even after that, i can tell for sure it behaves differently and the bar was on homescreen yesterday before issues happened and also after factory reset there were older version of oneplus launcher and it behaves exactly the same so its not the launcher too.

Is it possible to do that without root? coz the phone is brand new i have it for two weeks didnt rooted it yet. I also thought about downgrading to older version, i remember the phone came out of box with older oxygenos but updated immediately when i was setting all up, but i assume i cant downgrade without bootloader unlocked.

i have sent logs of whats going on to oneplus staff so ill probably wait what they will say and then try to flash the rom, flashing rom should solve the problem when factory reset didnt , but im not sure about anything when i see this
Okay hope you get a fast Response
After almost three days since last message from them and provided log file no other responses.I started thinking that it may be intended behavior and they see no weird stuff there so they close it, coz this way i showed on video it is behaving exactly like iphones gestures. even though it behaved differently before. It would be nice to see responses fro m more owners if they have behavior like me or the bar actually stays there all the time and visible even on lockscreen, coz i saw few other videos and one guy actually had the same behavior like me whereas the other had the bar always visible, kinda strange.

I have the same behaviour. It could be that it was showing on the OPLauncher before but I'm not sure. It now seems as it is intentional though

good to hear from someone else atleast we know that its not that uncommon..i dont mind that navigation bar appearance at all since swiping between apps still works and so on, but i sometimes feel that its harder for me to reach recent apps as its requiers to swipe more to the middle than before, but it might be just my feeling

I just checked and it seems though it is accessible from a little bit to the side on the OPLauncher, it is harder to trigger
Might be due to the fact that you can perform all kinds of gestures while using the launcher. I rarely use app switching there but I can see this being annoying. Unfortunately, you could only use an old apk as long as the system one isn't newer.

yeah but as i mentioned at the begining of the post, i ended up factory resetting the phone which comes with way older OP launcher as default and the behavior was exactly the same, so idk if any older apk will do the trick i think its not related to the launcher
