Curved screen grip zones, how do you disable this? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

As probably everyone has noticed, phones with curved screens (and also some flat screens) have had this super annoying "grip zone" as the manufacturers call it, enabled by default.
Ive been battling out with different manufacturers to modify this stupid functionality off without success, which is the exact reason i came here asking for help if someone has any idea or possibility to fix this on stock/rooted phones.
If you dont know what i mean by grip zones, google samsung edge touch (cant post links yet).
Im using samsung s9+ at the time (have tried: op6, 7, 7pro. Huawei p30 pro. sgs8, 9+. all of these have this grip zone enabled by default).
Ive tried using the samsungs own edge touch app (samsung store download) to disable the grip zones completely to no avail as for some mysterious reasons even the setting stays on in the app, it still reverts back to the default zone layout after random time of usage and makes it annoying to reset the app X amount of times to get it working again.
So please, anybody. If you know any possible way how to completely disable this functionality on my sgs9+, it would really help out alot!
Im sick of making million typos because the screen wont register presses on the sides if i type fast or having to zoom in on websites to click a box on the very edge on the screen or etcetcetc...

Screen Edges unresponsive?

I've been using the Fascinate and this is a problem I've had this whole time. I'm not sure if it's a hardware or a software defect.
The pixels at the edge of the screen don't seem to pick up touch input, something which I can see when I use painting apps. There is a space at the edge that doesn't get painted over. Also, when using the Lense lockscreen in CM7, it's extremely difficult to actually unlock the screen, because, since the edges don't respond, the lockscreen doesn't slide all the way down, and thus doesn't unlock.
The edges do pick up input for very brief moments sometimes, but only rarely. Do you guys know what the problem is?
It was mentioned when this device first came out. X starts to register at 8px and stop at 472px. And Y starts at 15px and stops at 785px. Not sure if that's by design, but hasn't hindered any app/ui interactions in tw for me. But I do remember this topic.
*Edit* Original Thread. Also confirmed epic does it too. Seems to be a galaxy "feature" on all models. But you're the first to notice it in 7 months and I would gather if cm7 ever went beta that an xml could be edited for the lock to reduce the gesture rate.
good day.

Alternative market client, meeting two conditions (touch screen blind spot related)

This may sound like a really simple request, but I've been looking for awhile, due to the two conditions to meet. It's also something I must be able to obtain outside of the market, unless it's something
What's wrong with my Samsung Galaxy 3 phone? (Not an S3 )
One side of the screen touching doesn't work, sometimes it thinks a spot on the screen is being touched and have to keep sending it into the unlock screen until it snaps out.
How does this affect Google Play/Market?
When the phone is upwards normally, the top right side of the screen and down is unresponsive. 2 of the 3 angles are unresponsive, that 1 angle which I can click search on ends up having the bottom two rows of the keyboard unresponsive.
When switching angle to be able to type (as I do texting, have to use all 3 angles) the keyboard disappears and the text is forgotten.
What part of my keyboard is unresponsive when tilted in Play?
Bottom two rows being: (space + backspace) & zxcvbnm
I can search for anything without these characters.
It's driving me a little loopy, the original Android Market was fine, I bet they never envisioned such a problem in Google Play.
What I need:
So due to this, I need to find a market which either has the search (normal way up) away from the right side of the screen. Or at least one which doesn't forget what you've written when rotating.
I know I need a new phone, but having it over-clocked at just over twice the stock speed is enough for anything but gaming (slow GPU). If I had a lot of money I would have bought something a little better at the time. Saving now for something, still researching a best bang for the buck phone second hand.

touch issues

Im so frustrated by the touch screen on my ZU, its so Sensitive (or under Sensitive ) that i always accidentally select items or make phone calls when i scroll through lists. I've updated to latest firmware already but same thing
Is no one else experiencing this? I only see a complaint occasionally. I brought the phone to Sony of Taiwan and they said it seems normal and dont recommend i send it in for repair.

Things like this are always a double edged sword.
On 1 hand people will see this as an issue and dislike it, or others like myself will like it as it makes the screen effortless to interact with.
I can see your point though, especially if you are coming from a device with a screen not as sensitive.
I come from an iphone, and have played extensively with a S 3,none of which have these issues, and are just as effortless

I had this problem with the Sony Tablet Z and it drove me crazy.. a software update fixed the issue but I returned the tablet anyways. But I have seen no issues like that with my Ultra Z.
Yup, updated this morning hoping for a fix but seems the same. ..trying to do factory restore right now to see if that helps
.475 seemed to have fixed that issue on my phone.
Sent from my C6802 using Tapatalk 2
A factory reset DID help ! The touch still has occasional issues but much better now ... Finally can use the phone properly
Sorry, it didn't help. problem still exists and Sony is telling me this is acting as suggested. I guess I'll have to wait for someone (hopefully) come up with a sensitivity adjustment.
Did you apply any screen protector as certain bad screen protector will affected the sensitive issue.
Other wise, did you a iPhone ex owner. No biased on this, but base on what I had seen so far, certain iPhone owner can't proper use Android phone due to the touch & scroll method is different. Android only need to slightly touch not like iPhone need much pressure on it.
I've removed the screen protector, same thing.
It can't be an iphone vs android thing, the problem doesn't exist on Samsung devices I've played with or my Nexus 7.
It feels more like the screen is not sensitive enough? It isn't registering that I am still scrolling and so it registers a finger "lift" and selects into an item. Same thing if I try to hold a key on the keyboard to access secondary letter (holding down on a key to select comma, for example) it'll repeat hitting that key. I have to exert a lot more pressure and be very sure my finger doesn't move to properly access the secondary key.

The repeat-hitting when tap-hold is very abnormal. Why your service center didn't recognize that as a problem when they examine it? I think you should request for replacement.
I also had the same problem... touchscreen is a little bit buggy.. but the latest patch did fix a little bit.. but its still there. still far from my ip5 , s3 s4 note 1 note 2... hope they will fix these soon.
I have exactly the same problem on mine, sometimes is really hateful but for sure when rooted we will be able to change that value.
I also have major issues with the screen.
The best way to illustrate the problem is by holding a finger on the screen on the lockscreen.
It just flickers a lot like I'm tapping repeatedly on the screen.
I've updated and factory reset without it fixing anything :/
I was wrong, I still have issues. The newer firmware just made it overall a little "better" but I am going to send it in for repairs...this is ridiculous.

should I wait for next update?
I'm having the same issue with the screen sensitivity. It also skips when using a pencil as a stylus, which is the main reason I bought this phone- to draw and take notes. I don't like amoleds, need pentaband and can't fit anything bigger than the z ultra into my pocket. It has become very annoying, and I'm wondering if I should hold out for the next update or send it in now...I have no backup phone.

I've sent it in yesterday.
The Sony associate said he can see the issue as being "screen more sensitive than usual" but can't promise anything. He said he will demonstrate it to his colleagues as the repair form lists the symptoms vaguely as "screen erraticly jumps" which doesn't describe the problem accurately.
I will know within 2 weeks and post the results here. I am not holding my breath, though, as I think Sony has pointed out that the specialty feature of the ZU using a pencil to control the screen is produced by turning up the sensitivity of the touch screen. Kind of like Samsung Galaxy S4's feature of allowing users to use the touchscreen with gloves on. At least Galaxy users can turn the damn feature off!
Interestingly enough, while in the repair line I met another user who has a ZU and I asked if he had the same issues. He said no, he didn't have that issue at all.
Sony Taiwan sent it back to the repair shop stating they updated it to .475 and there shouldn't be any problems. Problem is, I already had updated it to .475 when I brought it in for repairs. Problem still exists and I have them send it back. If this doesn't improve I can only blame myself....should have bought a samsung!
Apparently Sony Taiwan refuses to offer any fix for this as they stated this "sensitivity" is needed for the pencil stylus feature.
Very unfortunate, very lame.
Anyone want to buy a 2 week old Sony ZU in Taiwan?

Soft buttons going crazy (hardware?), which ROM supports switching to on-screen btn?

Got a 6GB-RAM/64GB-flash rose X820 sent from China 6 months ago. Been very happy with it until some weeks ago.
Ghost touches did very occasionally happen several months ago, after the device had been running for weeks without rebooting.
Since I update my ROMs rather regularly, that didn't really happen all that often, thought it was some kind of software glitch.
Now things have deteriorated to the point where the phone becomes unusable: After a reboot, things work for a minute or so, and then it goes crazy, reacting to phantom button presses. Since my default home button double tap actions is "previous app" and the default menu button action is "app chooser" you can imagine what's going on on the screen: Can't watch without getting dizzy.
After a while the phone will settle down with the buttons dead: They won't react or light up on touch, just light with screen or hardware button action.
Happens with all kinds of ROMs btw., the latest Chinese stock ROMs, Mokee Marshmallow and the various Nougat ROMs I tried over the last weeks.
By now I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue with my phone, especially since I have only ever encountered one other mention of "ghost touch" in the forum.
It may be a sad case of failing hardware, "a bad soldering point" sort of thing, pretty much impossible to fix with reasonable effort for a phone at this price.
But I know Android natively supports using on-screen software buttons and I've even had ROMs which allowed you to choose between the hardware buttons and on-screen software buttons: Yet somehow, in the current crop of Nougats I haven't really come across this option any more.
So I have two questions:
1. Do others experience similar issues with failing soft buttons? How prevalent is the issue?
2. Does anyone know if one of the CM derivatives like Remix/Mokee etc. Nougats enable foregoing the soft buttons for on-screen ones?
(3.) Would a kind developer put the option back into his ROM or tell me where to find it, so I can put it there myself?
Clearly I prefer using the "hardware" buttons, but even more clearly I prefer using (typically auto-hideable) on-screen buttons to ditching the phone, which is otherwise still going very strong and much faster than its Samsung Note 3 predecessor, which I have to fall back on until the ghost touch madness is resolved via "soft-button amputation".
BTW: I noticed that my Max was rather more bendable than I would have believed a "solid metal case" phone to be (always had plastic Samsungs before and was very happy with their practical advantages of swappable batteries, light weight and drop resilience).
It typically got to the point where it wouldn't lie flat on its face, but toggle on two corners. I would then very carefully bend it back until would rest flat again.
Can't say I saw any direct relationship between the bends and the ghost touches, during "ghost attacks" careful bending either way also doesn't change the occurrence or rapidity of the ghost touches, either.
I am also using a hardenned glass cover on the screen, which is ever so slightly lifting in one corner and could have tiny specks of dust enter between the cover screen and the original front. Since I don't have an equivalent quality replacement and Le Max doesn't have the best quality screen glass, I'm hesitating to remove it, just to see if it makes a difference for the soft buttons: I'd find it hard to believe it could make a real difference, but I wouldn't mind to be corrected if wrong.

Delayed scrolling/touch detection on edges of screen

Hi guys, upgraded to the Mate 10 recently from a dying Galaxy S4. Love the phone but something has been bothering me since I noticed it yesterday.
Whenever I try to scroll on pages from the very edges of the screen (think half the finger is off the screen), the content on the screen doesn't scroll for about a few milliseconds then jerks suddenly towards my finger, as if to compensate for not scrolling earlier.
However, if I move my finger to the edge of the screen from somewhere else, scrolling works fine.
Has anyone else encountered this? Should I bring it back to have it replaced or is this just some software touch rejection at work? Pretty distressed as I intend to keep this phone for at least four years (same as my S4).
Thanks for any help!
Tried replicating on my Mate 10 (Rom 119). Works fine for me.
I have the same problem... Its just so bad when aiming in a game.
What firmware are you on ?
Because I tried to do it also, but it's working just fine for me.
Same for me no problem with firmware 127-C432

8 ball pool? Yup I'm having the exact same issue there.... Its ridiculous.
Did you find any solution?!
And others... If you guys don't have this issue no need to say "you don't have this issue".... These are solution finding threads... Whatever you are trying to do... It doesn't help... Although you are not trying to help anyway
Probably full screen gestures messing with touch detection. Keyboard presses are also affected, must use Gboard in one handed mode so that it's smaller on screen and doesn't go to the edges
