So guys, I'm new to this and thought I would jump in at the deep end.
I unlocked my HTC One X+ easily and set about rooting.
I've got TWRP installed but it keeps telling me it needs to install superuser before it can root.
I have totally wiped the phone, how come if Im not rooted?
How do I get an OS and indeed the kernel or ROM onto the phone?
Its and International OX+, I've got the right kernel... what do I need to do?
It was locked to O2 if that makes a difference
I followed the instruction in Hasson but then wiped the OS
I know its a simple procedure but can someone walk me through it please
So I've downloaded Kernel 3.1.10-ge7581e4
I have no idea what to do next, come on guys I know its not difficult for you guys.

If you wiped as you said, you need to push with adb a rom of your choice to the internal memory of the phone and then install it within twrp.
Please read instructions 2 or 3 times before attempting anything, seems like you rushed and now you're temporarily without phone till you flash a rom on it again. I doubt any root guide tells you to wipe the phone, your own fault on this.
To sum it up:
Put a rom's zip of your choice in the internal memory with adb push
flash the rom within the twrp recovery (install option)
flash the kernel for the specific rom with fastboot (each rom has a guide and download for it)
You can now search about it more easily, plenty of posts and info about this.

Thanks, I did indeed rush into it but I have been meaning to do it for a year and just thought go for it, I know its all salvageable..ish!
So yep, I've got the ROM I want but don't understand the kernel, I see no guide to download it, all I know is I took a note of the Kernel before I wiped my phone and I have managed to find the exact kernel.
The ROM or RUU as it is, is an O2 UK version, I figure it must be the one I want as it was an O2 phone in the UK.
I still don't know what folders to put things in, TWRP can't see a boot.img that I have on the phone when installing, it can only see it through file explorer.
And then, every time I power down the phone TWRP asks to install Superuser, its cant, theres nothing to install it to, so it just keeps asking.
This is all because I hated the Sense 5 update, indeed Im till looking for the Sense 4 ROM fo HOX+

Sigh, if you had read carefully you'd know that boot.img need to be flashed through fastboot and not from recovery. Every rom has this info or a batch file for this.
So what exactly are you trying to do? Root the stock rom that came originally with the phone or installing a custom rom?

Lols, thanks dan, I hope you don't hate me!
Root the stock ROM
For starters..
The boot.img is the Android Revolution HD
The RUU is O2 UK
I do realise they are two different ways of installing an OS, I would just like one of them to work!
So think install RUU, then kernel
But put them where and how
I bought the Android Hackers book, but theres nothing about HOX+ in it, and seeing as that's the only phone, I've got to practise on I thought I would ask you specifically.

I see, the easiest ways would be to use a custom rom now. For example, the one you already got the kernel from(android revolution hd)
To root you dont need to install a kernel... just to flash the supersu zip. Using a custom rom's kernel with stock rom might not be a good idea.
Another simple way would be to restore stock rom back to start and try rooting again, this time reading everything carefully
So the two easiest ways i think:
1) flash a custom rom following the instructions they provide in the initial posts for that rom
2) run the o2 correspondent RUU to restore stock rom (you'd need to relock the bootloader), also reading carefully posts in the forum about restoring to stock
Without getting into too much detail, these are the simplest options.
All the info required to do these are on these forums
Aaarrghhh, its driving me insane as I knew it would, just like XP, Vista Seven and Eight!!!
So Im back to being up all night learning..
Well have installed SDK correctly but device is not seen, no serial, nothing.
I can get it to fastboot though, however I don't know any commands so I cant get it to work
Windows 7 keeps moaning about an mpt file which I downloaded and dont know where to extract it to
All I need to do is copy a few files to the phones sd card and install them right?
Whys that so difficult?
I don't know the difference between a rom an ruu and a boot image, in that I don't know where they should all be placed.
Why cant twrp copy and paste from pc...
So Hassooon works sort of but still none the wiser.
Am following tutorial but fastboot commands are not working
Still cant find right driver.....
So CMD lines not working 100%
So am downloading drivers in sdk manager
And how do I flash the supersu zip?
Still no luck with driver, im on windows 7 32bit
OK I cant push using adb it cant find the file or directory,
Hassooon cant detect the phone as cant windroid universal
I dont think the phone is rooted even though i have twrp on it.
Thus can I have wiped the os?
If not can i restore it?
No I didnt make a backup rom..
mmm a zip on the phone doesnt load in bootloader, count that be my os?
Guys, im stranded in the water here...
On boot im getting...
Failed to open usb master mode
[Preload] Failed to open usb master mode
loading PM35IMG.zip image...
Failed to open usb master mode
please plug off usb
Whats PM35IMG.zip?
Is that the OS?
Am I saved?
Is it easy to get that file to unzip and load?
Can anyone help?
So now I need the right RUU.....
2.17.206.3
Is there anyone out there that can help please?
So have managed to install superuser and root my phone, all instructions for doing this were wrong including Hassoon, had to have the phone in System screen to do it, not bootloader or recovery.
Now cant get adb to push file to sdcard...
Man alive, how to make something very easy, sound very difficult.
Would any of you experts care to help?
Just trying to install a ROM.zip to Root and place the boot img in right place.
Well, the instructions are dire but after 10 days of persistance have installed Android Revolution HD 8, finally my phone is up and running better than the bloated os that came with the phone so, you can call this thread resolved.
Hello,
Backstory:
So here's the deal. My provider (Virgin Mobile Data Done Right) changed my phone number, and asked me to update PRL to make it work again.
I don't have a working stockrom backup - neither does anyone else. Neither does Kies, I've spent over two weeks researching this and working with various intermediate developers so don't even go there. I just want to work on making a custom rom do the PRL update.
It seems the easiest way to do this is simply to inject all needed files into the custom rom, but so far I've not had any success in finding the working files.
Things that are not solutions:
1) Flashing System via Odin or Hiemdall, multiple people including myself can confirm that Virgin has somehow blocked this method.
2) Flashing stockrom or Touchwiz KitKat via TWRP (anything below 5.1 lolipop fails to boot, gets caught in hard loop).
(On top of that, you loose baseband because no one on planet earth has a Virgin Mobile Data Done Right tri-band phone. It's a rare OH1 modem. I was fortunate enough to make a backup of modem.bin, before running flash attempts overtop of my custom rom. No thanks to the many fools who told me otherwise)
3) Paying developers to fix the issue. I gave one a brand new phone and another a few bucks, neither of them know how to fix it.
4) Giving up.
Developer Info Needed:
So what I'm looking for is people experienced with HiddenMenu.apk that can give me some tips to get it working on d2refreshspr (Triband) OctOS-L. OctOS-MM does NOT work, never did. OctOS is very aware of the issue but they are probably just as clueless at this point and aren't interested in putting proprietary blobs in their rom. People like @digiblur who have all but decompiled the thing would probably know how it works.
To my knowledge, I need to find the following files:
OmaDmclient.apk
UpdateSettings.apk
HiddenMenu.apk
These files have to be able to run on Lolipop, and they have to be branded for Sprint, preferably for the Galaxy S3 triband, but I'm not sure it exists so well have to make do. I tried injecting the packages from some older KitKat roms and they crash.
Once again, the only rom that ever worked properly on this phone is custom rom OctOS-L, so others are not an option.
Alright devs, let me know some tricks! No noobs.
I have located the stock Sprint KitKat version of HiddenMenu for the S3 tri-band. Unfortunately, I have been unable to execute it on the custom rom as of yet. It does not appear in any of the activity launchers, and the dial-code is not working. I've manually put this into /system/app/HiddenMenu/HiddenMenu.apk
APK for reference:

- Pulled from:
L710TVPU0AOH1_L710TSPT0AOH1_L710TVPU0AOH1_HOME.tar.gz --> system.img.ext4
(Note that this LT710T Odin dump foolishly contains the NF4 modem, NOT the OH1 as it's name implies)
Without anyone's help, I will continue to google this endless endeavor. :good:
Ran apktool on this thing. Inside the apk of the HiddenMenu it mentions the NF4 variant. Not sure if this is why it's not working or not.
Also tried recompiling it by changing AndroidManifest.xml to add android.intent.category.LAUNCHER as an option so that it appears.
No love. I can't get HiddenMenu to come up.
Ideas?
For anyone encountering this issue. I never got HiddenMenu to work. Not even on a TouchWiz rom, but I found another way.
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67026377&postcount=6
This was way more complex than it should be. Proprietary APK makers should be ashamed.
Hey guys I was able to take the time slooooowly download Stock firmware for our Prevail. Practically no support to this phone at all, but I've been working to change that as best I can. I am learning the ropes of ROM building and I have been able to make use of ASSSAYED Kitchen v.110 (Now upgraded to v1.20).
For those of you who don't know:
Odin tutorial
**DO AN ADVANCED WIPE IN TWRP BEFORE FLASHING. EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE EXTERNAL SD CARD**
Download Samsung USB Drivers (Go to this xda thread here).
Download Odin (Get it here) Extract to Desktop (Or wherever)
Download firmware to desktop (It's in .zip format and you can find it here). Extract .zip file to odin folder (again, or wherever). Extraction should yield G360PVPU2APJ2_G360PSPT2APJ2_G360PVPU2APJ2_HOME.tar
Right click Odin 3.10.6 and click on "run as administrator".
Click on AP and find the extracted ROM. Open it and it will take a minute to load in to Odin...Now make sure the 'Auto Reboot and F. reset time options are ticked and nothing else.
Make sure to be using a quality USB cord. Odin will recognize your phone being plugged in. It will say COM port number in the top left hand corner and added or removed will be in the log window. Once you are ready begin the flash press start.
Relax, It will take about 10 minutes to do it's thing. After the long agonizing initial boot process, you will be back to stock firmware PJ2 for SM-G360P
Hope it helps! So far there is no lollipop for our phone. Click here to check out all my uploads for this device. So far I have a TWRP port that actually works. (Must flash through Odin) an a Stock rooted deodexed busyboxed zipaligned rom of this firmware (Thanks to ASSAYYED Kitchen).
OLDER VERSIONS
OH1 Firmware
I flashed this back to my device in attempt to go stock but system status is still set to Custom just so everyone is aware. Not sure if it could be an error on my part.
just wanted to say thanks i have 2 of these phones 1 use for mp3 player/ play phone and the other my daughter has to use. ive tried a ton of twrps for this and everyone broke recovery. im dl ing the twrp and the rom you posted. ya there is no development on this phone at all. ive tried almost every rom i could to get it to lollipop with no luck. im going to try to get the theme store and the launcher swapped out with an updated version.. n5 s7 any is fine i just want to get it updated lol. ill play with it tonight and let you know how it goes. i appreciate the effort your putting in to this. i dont even have service to them i have a stubborn s7 that refuses to get rooted. i had no prob with the note7 but idk if i have some updated version of s7 but i cannot obtain full root. i need to have my audio mods at least. i have a good one with beats, dolby atomos and viper im going to try on the 360 as well. let me know if you would like the file. after i check if it works on this on that is.
Please stay tuned. Upgrading this thread to the most recent PJ2 firmware.
Thread updated to PJ2 firmware. I can confirm this will make your device status 'Official'.
Thank you!
I just wanted to say:
Thank you so much mate! An amazing job here, I had a broken rom on this device, and thanks to your PJ2 build; I now have a fully working device again!
Fixed the play store, play services, and all the ads and junk on this Textfree branded device (PE2 firmware confirmed). keep up the great work!
Thanks for posting this! I see your other files, would you mind going in more detail how to install the stock rooted deodexed version of this rom? How do you recommend unlocking the bootloader to install TWRP or can we just simply flash it with ODIN then install the stock rooted rom? Thanks!
EDIT: according to this forum looks like you just flash it. Do you recommend your 2.87 over the 3.02?

Awesome, thanks for keeping support alive for this phone!
I'd really like a custom rom for this phone i have to restart at least once a day or this ROM becomes unusably slow.. I mean atleast CM11
Hello. I'm Dave. I just got this phone (G360P Prevail LTE) and I'm pretty excited about it because it could sure use some stuff and I'm new to development and ROM porting. My goal is to bring great ROMs to the lower end phones that are sometimes forgotten in development. Right now I only have one good port under my belt, but it's a great one...PAC 5.1.1 for the ZTE Zmax Z970. Unfortunately, I used device and kernel trees that were already put together by another developer, so I'm not completely sure how to get started on putting trees together for this one. At least it's a Samsung, so mistakes will not be deadly, hopefully lol. There's a lot I don't know and this will be a hell of a learning experience. If anyone could fill me in on which devices that have some development going are most similar to this one, it would be a big help. I flashed the TWRP for the G360T1 before I found @adrwill2000's stuff since it has the same processor and specs and I'm sure you all know how that worked out...I guess I'll start by grabbing stuff for the device that our TWRP was ported from, unless you guys have any better suggestions. It would be best to start with trees from a very similar device. I almost hate to post this because it's very possible I will get nowhere, but I could sure use input from you guys that know this device well as to what my best starting point might be. Thank you.
I'm back to running H1 for now because it seems to be our latest that xposed is working on and imo this KitKat stuff sure needs some Gravitybox. Also, on mine, in J2, when I hit reboot it would reboot recovery. I was gonna fix it, but it's working in H1.
Scratch that...I found the Xposed updated for new 4.4s, so I'm on the deodexed, zipaligned j2 now. Thanks for all you've done with this, @adrwill2000...
It worked for me. My phone was bricked and I could not even get it to hard reset. Thank you!
[SOLVED]
My device: OnePlus5 A5000
First of all I want to mention that I am kind of a novice on rooting so please do not go hard on me, mistakes happen. So I was running the lastest version of Android on my phone (Version 5.1.7) and decided to root my phone and use Magisk. So I unlocked my bootloader and I was going to work with TWRP. But I did a terrible mistake and wiped the system while experimenting. I know this is a very stupid mistake but it sadly happened. So my phone is basicly empty and has no OS running everytime with a black screen whenever I enter the system . The only thing I am able of doing is transfering files from my PC to my phone and using TWRP. I downloaded the original and latest OS version from OnePlus' site and moved it inside my phone. I then went on to install it via TWRP but I faced "Error 7". I did a research on that and I found out that it happens because it detects if it is a compatible ROM with the whole "assert" thing in META-INF in the "updater-script". I went on to unzip it and edit it with NotePad++to remove "assert" but "assert" was no where to be found since it was the original version. I then went on to try installing the lineage version for OnePLus 5 not knowing if it was going to work and it turned out to not work at all. I also want to mention that whenever I tried removing the "assert" from the lineage version I got an error of "Invalid zip file format!". Finally I want to mention that in order for me to view the files I worked by repairing the partition and converting it to FAT and exFAT(I did NOT convert it back to EXT4 yet). In case I am missing something or there is a way of solving it please let me know, I would really appreciate it! Also if you do not mind be as decscriptive as possible since I am a novice and I do not know everything like other individuals. I will though make a deep research on every single comment I get, I am not waiting for an easy solution on such a subject. I hope I can fix my phone with your help in the near future. Thanks in advance!
Files that I have downloaded (if necessary):

2)Original version of latest OnePlus 5 Update (5.1.7) (.zip file)

Hey everyone,
So! I bought a Sony Xperia 1 (J8110-2019) phone from someone on Facebook Marketplace at a very solid price of £250 (RRP is still £850 in the UK) due to the seller describing it as 'in retail demo mode' so they lowered the price. I jumped the gun thinking I was getting a solid deal and just stupidly assumed it to be a feature I could just disable with *#*#73556673*#*#- me believing I was some insane developer with mad coding skills where in realityI had once flashed and rooted my Xperia XZ back in 2016. [Insert 'Hackerman' meme]
Yes... I am fully aware I'm a complete idiot for not doing a full assessment on the phone and am now having to learn a very important lesson from this situation!!
It seems to have a Store Front firmware installed and unsure what firmware to download and flash? I've tried some of the official stock ROMs from XperiFirm and it just continues to boot into constant 10-second cycles of demo videos making general functionality like phone calls pretty much impossible. without interruption. I've tried Customized and UK Service Provider Firmware such as EE and O2 but it always goes back into Store mode.
I was hoping if anyone would have or could elaborate on how to make an executable system flash zip for a 2019 Xperia 1? When I extract files from XperiaFirm ROMS (FTF,ZIP,SIN etc), I don't seem to get any META-INF files and thus cant make the proper .zip that TWRP needs to successfully flash a new repacked stock ROM? It always ends in a boot loop."
Here are some key points to hopefully give you some background:
I've installed TWRP successfully and have attempted to use 3 official firmware to flash whilst in recovery but have been unsuccessful each time with 'Invalid .ZIP format'. I've only a few times got booted whilst bundling together FTF files via Flashtool and doing it that way round but only ever seems to solve half the problem
I can't use the SinExtract feature in Flashtools as the SIN file errors as not being supported yet to use different file versions.
I can't use PRFCreator as it errors as the FTF file being unsupported (Due to it being new I assume)
I attempted to create my own META-INF>Updater-script but am unable to identify what partition my phone would use for mounting on "/dev/block". I only ever seem to get MANIFEST.MF from the files and nothing else. On my XZ I think I used something like:
(package_extract_file("boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0");
package_extract_file("system.sin","/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system");

I have been able to install Magisk for rooting and verified.
I have used Minimal ADB and Fastboot to install programs like TWRP, SuperSu, Magisk but have never attempted, nor would I even know how to wipe my phone completely and install a clean stock ROM - is this possible?
All drivers, software, and systems are correct and up to date (as far as I am aware)
Would installing the' Service Exchange Firmware' be recommended (if I ever make it that far!) due to it being StoreFront?
I checked the IMEI number to see if it was blacklisted/blocked and it's all good. Not lost or stolen.
Thank you for your time to read and wallow in my woes with me my lovelies! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated you magnificent beasts! x
