Hello everyone, i just bought a fire kindle hd 7 (9th generation), version 6.3.15 (updated recently)
I'm trying to remove bloatware and default apps.
Everytime i try to remove one like goodreads, kindle or the default mp3 player using - pm uninstall commands i always get the DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR. I've managed to uninstall a few, but the amazon specific apps won't go.
Is there a workaround?, am i missing somtheing? Thanks in advance.

I just rooted and am running the Lollipop version of FireOS. I want to get a more stock feel on my Fire HD, but can't run the Google Now launcher. I get the following error when I try to run it:
"Fire Launcher is currently your default launcher. To try the Google Now launcher, select it from Settings > Home."
There is no option for that. I've gone into the Fire Launcher app under app settings to clear the default, but there are no defaults to clear. I've tried other launchers and they will only work like an app. Once you hit the home button, they go back to the Fire Launcher. Can anyone help?
I'm struggling with it too. I have bricked my kindle twice trying things today, so I'm done for the night. I guess I'll just use the Fire Launcher until someone smart figures it out.
Also, I'd like to know if there is a way to stop the Amazon Appstore from trying to open Play Store links.

Here's a fix for Google Now launcher for previous version of OS 5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/fixed-googlenow-launcher-default-t3174454
In 5.2.2.u2, you'll also need to disable stock launcher while in su: pm disable com.amazon.firelauncher. (If by chance that "old" fix doesn't work, check out the Fire 7 forums. Many of their fixes also work on our device.)
Most other launchers will work if you convert to a system app and block the Fire Launcher.
EDIT: @enTRAPAG @HeartOfDavid Actually, most alternate launchers will run OK just by disabling the stock launcher. Conversion to system app is necessary in order for widgets to work.

Disable the Appstore to stop it insisting on opening: pm disable com.amazon.venezia. When you do this the system sees Appstore as uninstalled and freaks if you try to use it. Just enable it again.

Awesome, thanks.
I prefer the Kindle app from the Play Store to the one installed by default on the Fire tablet, because a lot of my ebooks weren't bought from Amazon, and Amazon insists on classifying these as docs rather than books, which means I need to use the Docs app to read them. Whereas the Play Store Kindle app handles Docs and Books in the same app together.
I have a Fire HD 6 tablet, rooted and with Gapps. I'm thinking maybe I could use Titanium Backup to uninstall the stock Kindle app, and then install the one from the Play Store - will that work, or is the stock Kindle app too heavily integrated with FireOS to safely remove? I've disabled the stock launcher, so the integration with that shouldn't be an issue.
my father has a Fire 7 HD that I rooted for him changed the launcher to nova, installed playstore and froze any system updates. I think it's on a late version of gingerbread or thereabouts.
installing the regular kindle app doesn't work, it asks questions about being an authorised device etc. so is there a version of it old or modded that will work OK ?
Kindle Fire HD 8 (Gen 6) OS 5.3.3.0
I followed all the instructions to get the Google Play store installed, and installed Maps, GMail, Drive, Hangouts. Everything worked great for a few days. Now GMail won't stay open. It will start, and show mail, then it closes after a few seconds. I was hoping there might be new APK files available? I used the latest, from what I can tell. Thanks for the help!
I'm seeing the same thing on a Kindle Fire HD 8 Gen 7. It happens when running both Gmail and Inbox by Gmail. App shows for a few seconds, then reverts to launcher. No other apps exhibit this behavior!

Gmail issues
I have not downloaded the Google Play Store yet, but I still have seen issues with Gmail. My Gmail quit working on my Kindle Fire HD 8 as of May 30, 2017. I've tried everything short of uninstalling and reinstalling Gmail and nothing has worked. I have very apps on my Kindle, but it has always been incredibly slow to load an app (20-30 seconds). I have not been happy with the Kindle and could never recommend it. I'd be better off using the Kindle app on a REAL Android tablet or other device.

Hi, any idea, why I don't have displayed "Uninstall" button when trying to use Fire Toolbox, on my Fire 7 from 2017, please? I wanted to re-install Google play as it stopped working. No chance to uninstall Google Play services app on the tablet, so I tried to use Fire Toolbox. I don't have option to Uninstall app in here neither. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks
L.
